'Something bad' in Aruba
Holloway case suspect leading police to scene

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — One of three young men who took an Alabama teenager to the beach during a high school graduation trip to Aruba said "something bad happened" to her, police said Friday.

Deputy Police Commissioner Gerold Dompig told The Associated Press that the man was leading police late Friday to the scene. He refused to identify which young man had made the statement.

Earlier in the day the Justice Minister flatly denied these reports, but now says it was not an issue of the facts of the case being wrong, but merely an issue of protocol. He says the police source initially talking to the AP had not conferred with his higher ups before, but it appears that the facts were correct all along.

PAUL REYNOLDS: I know that my sister had a meeting with the FBI June 10, Friday. And from that meeting, she became convinced that Natalee was no longer alive. She called her mother and told her that. And our family was—was—began the grieving process.

You know, we were told the report would come out the next day. Later that night, we saw the reports that confessions had been made, that something bad had happened. Shortly thereafter, it was retracted. The next morning, there was a report that said Natalee was confirmed dead. And these reports came from the deputy commissioner. They came from the spokesperson from the Ministry of Justice.

And then, all of a sudden, these statements and these confessions just disappeared.

SCARBOROUGH: And wait a second. I mean, these confessions were so rock solid that you actually had the FBI coming to you, coming to your family, Natalee's family, saying, we are sorry to tell you this, but there has been a confession. One of these boys has confessed, and Natalee is no longer alive.

How could Aruba suggest that it’s heart was with Natalee and her family – yet allow such mental and emotional cruelty to be inflicted upon the family of a battered, kidnapped, murdered child whom police allowed a suspect to ‘retract’ his own admissions of having killed and buried this child?

How do you pull something like that back off the table? Have you had or has your sister had or has anybody in the family had any explanation from Aruban officials whatever happened to this confession, where they buried it?

REYNOLDS: I am not aware of any follow-up information. You know, this seemed to disappear from sight, these confessions did.

At the time, we thought that because the investigation is kept secret, we thought it was ongoing, and maybe they just didn't want to release it officially at that time. But, as we see that the appeals, the hearings are showing there's no evidence, but yet we have these confessions, it doesn't make any sense. It's as if they are being hidden or taken away.

SCARBOROUGH: You know, you said—talked about June the 10th. That's when you all were told that the confession had been made, and you said that the family actually started a grieving process. What did the family do?

REYNOLDS: You know, grieving is—it's a difficult process. We were all notified. We exchanged phone calls, making sure everyone in the family was notified. I even had to tell my children, very upsetting to them, very upsetting to all of us.

SCARBOROUGH: Wait, Paul. Are you telling me, back on June the 10th, you told your children, based on the confession of one of these—these punks that took Natalee away from the bar, that Natalee was dead? This was over a month ago. You had to break it to your family, the entire family, Natalee's entire family, because of the confessions, knew that she was dead, and yet here we are over a month later, and they are still claiming they don't have enough evidence to nail these guys?

REYNOLDS: That's absolutely correct.

You know, the FBI had informed my sister based on the initial interrogations that that was their belief. That information was given to our family. And it's just—it's a very difficult thing to go through. Grieving should only be a process you have to go through one time.

If there are statements still in existence concerning the above facts, then there is no reason for the Dutch to not solve this case and bring justice to Natalee and her family.

Jossy’s theory is not much different than what most here believe.  He is just missing that same piece of the puzzle that we have all been searching for.

It is unique and does just so explain that shoe size mystery.  He just found a pair of 14's and left them to be found.  Smart enough to try them on to get his DNA on them, too.

This is just an idle thought sparked by Ado's comments about the shoes.  Perhaps Paulus brought Val's shoes to Joran (at the tennis club) in the gym bag.  Joran may have decided to leave Val's shoes at the beach to back up his beach story.  He couldn't leave his own shoes as they most likely had blood stains on them and he already disposed of these.  Often, in families with siblings, the parents purchase similar or the same items for the kids like shoes alike.  Perhaps Val had the 10 1/2 pair and Joran the 14's of the same brand of shoe.  That might account for Joran's little smirk in Greta's interview when he said the shoes he left at the beach were just like the ones he had on.

Exactly.  And, Joran is young and stupid enough that he would think the important thing to identify the shoes left at the beach as his would be the style, brand and color of the shoes.  He would not think size would matter much if he could locate the same style, brand and color to substitute for his own shoes.  Thus, grab his brother's shoes, just like his, and tell Dad to bring them to him and he would leave them at the beach just to back up his lost shoe story.

I believe the statement that Dave references is what would have been the May 31 witness statement that should have been the same story as the K2 but that one was not allowed as it placed Joran squarely with the K2 and that just was not to be per Paulus of the Ditch.

My only question would be, if this wasn't an actuall mistake, and Natalee was confirmed dead only for it to later be retracted in error (and I use the term loosely ) then why approximately a year later did the FBI place Natalee on their Missing Persons list?

Thanks, it has been fun talking with all the monkeys today.  Jossy enjoys the exchange of info and will do his best to keep us informed about the happenings in Aruba.  Things have gone very quiet over the past few days and that has become a little frustrating.  Expected, but frustrating all the same.

Very close to racquet club(also a dirt road). It is smack dab in the center point between VDS house & K2's house. They had to find an area easily & quickly accessible, with a lookout tower and not in the ocean where they knew everyone would be looking.

Rob, you are right.  I had forgotten that Dompig had said they found one sneaker.  I wonder where they found it?  Did he ever say?

O/T  Off to another store as one did not have enough non suspect things to feed dogs.  Recall continues and grows by the day to now include hogs and chickens.  Apparently, we already ate most of them, the contaminated ones and survived.  So far.

I am going to miss Jossy and am hoping that it shows on the vids section of NBC 13 and that some kind local Monkeys translate.

I remember there being a shoe in the possession of ALE and that is what prompted all the questions.  I also thought that it must have been a size 10 ½, because Joran was adamant that he wore a 14.  That was just my take on the topic.  Of course, I also think someone probably gave the shoe to Paulus and asked him to be sure that it was locked up in the evidence room.

BB- I dont know to this day what size shoe that big galook actually wears.. I would think be its got to be bigger than a 10.5 based on his height alone, but his head should match his body and that doesn't .. it looks like he is comprised of off the shelf left over parts.

Not long ago I watched an interesting episode of Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege and Justice about the death of Lois McMillan.  That is an extremely interesting case, but the parallel here is that a par of blood spattered k-swiss tennis shoes were recovered from the house where the four suspects were living.  One of the suspects supposedly even described how and why he killed her to a jail-house snitch.  However, all four of the suspects eventually walked and that crime has still not been resolved.

Why?  Because the crime took place on a tropical island that boasted a very low incidence of violent crimes and really had no means or expertise to properly investigate such a thing.  All of the physical evidence that was collected had to be sent off the island to other locations.  Much of that evidence got lost along the way and the case went cold.

Kind of a downer, but the story does explain how screwed up things can get on these little vacation islands.

Easy, it makes one wonder also if these little tropical paradises whose evidence goes missing, disappears it themselves so that there is no one to be convicted, and thus, the crime rate remains low and perhaps this is what Oduber and Rudy Croes were counting on and they just never knew that a hurricane named Beth was going to sweep through and let them never forget, nor the world.  Like the Johnstown Flood, Beth will remain in the books for years and her presence will not be forgotten on Aruba.  I suspect in time to come, its new more honest inhabitants will be glad to name a beach for Natalee in her honor for restoring decency back where all had evaporated.  By that time, Julia Renfro will be but a distant sordid memory.

I mentioned on the last thread that Dancing with the Stars did a sports parody of the contestants, giving height and shoe sizes.  The 6' and 6'1 guys were in the size 10-12 range.  I think Joran wears a 14.  Don't know where the 10.5 he was wearing comes from, but I think if his feet were that size on a 6'5" frame, he'd topple over.

I would think the guy would be in the 14 too, especially in a tennis shoe.  I wear a 10 ½ and I would bet it is probably one of the most common sizes out there for a man.  All the shoe business just adds to the confusion and would be more interesting if a size 14 was found stuck up Joran’s arse!   8)

CHECK THIS OUT: Joran was talking to Abraham Jones when he was in jail and gave him the story that the Kalpoes dropped him off and drove off with Natalee. And he is claiming he is being framed by the Kalpoes!

UPDATE 20: TOP95 FM (Aruban radio station) reported on Monday that they have received information about the story that the suspect Joran van der Sloot gave to the police. The radio station got this information from the attorney that is representing the suspect Abraham Jones. Jones is being held at the same location as Joran and he has been hearing/getting information from within the institute. According to the attorney ,Jones declared that Joran is convinced that he is being framed. Joran is saying that he did not go to the lighthouse with the group at all. He testified that after he left the club, he caught a ride home with his Surinamese friends, the brothers Kalpoe. At that time Natalee Holloway was in the car. Joran allegedly testified that the Kalpoes dropped him off at his home and drove off with Natalee in car. It was only afterwards (a few days later), around the swimming pool at his house, that the Kalpoes made plans to come out with one version of the events. But now it seems that they are trying to frame Joran. The attorney also told the radio station that his client has been hearing Joran van der Sloot sobbing a lot lately.

TV.  No denying it.  That's why I went nutso when they were later talking about him leaving 2 shoes on the beach... WTF???  Some police work.

He was driving by the Racquet Ball Club to go to his home and he saw the Kalpoe car parked there with Joran in the drivers seat, one of the Kalpoe brothers beside him, and the other Kalpoe brother in the back. They did not see Natalee with them, but ah when he drove by very slowly and very close to them, Joran tired to hide his face with his hand and one of the Kalpoe brothers who was in the back just threw himself on the seat so as to not be seen. But (unaudible - sounds like he says Deback) saw all three of them. Friday our people took him after a lot of convincing, because he was afraid... took him to the (unaudible - half?) quarters of the police at (ooo-Bali?) and there he did repeat word for word everything he told us and he signed his declaration. So this places Joran and the Kalpoe brothers within 2:30 and 3:00 at a spot where they were not suppose to be at, at that time. (overtalk)

GR: Jossy how credible is this person and this is not the reward money speaking is it?

JM: No No No... there's is no reward involved here. It's just at his own free will make that statement to us after we heard about him from that domino game in the prison because when one of the other guys was playing with this Kalpoe brother, one of them - don't know which one - told him, "listen my gardener saw you and the other 2 guys by the back of the club between 2:30 and 3:00". He (Kalpoe) became very pale and he (Kalpoe) threw the dominoes on the table. So when we heard that story, our people began to search. We finally found him on Friday and he was convinced to be taken to the police were he laid out his declaration. This changes the whole story that they dropped Joran and Natalee to the beach, to the beach at the Marriott Club. There were between 2:30 and 3:00 at some other place nearby, within walking distance from the Marriott.

GR: But Natalee was not to be seen at least?

JM: No she was not to be seen in the car with them, no!

While I agree with the theory that they were at Joran's house that night, the change in the story from the lighthouse, a change that was very awkward and clumsy when questioned about it by Chris Cuomo, tells me that they WERE at the Lighthouse that night and Joran is denying it.

These kinds of things need to be pointed out by Greta instead of focusing in on some crack head that we know lied at least twice.

Major Investigation in the sloot back yard and she wants to focus on people at the beach.. :x

ORANJESTAD, Aruba -- It was a week ago Friday the Natalee Holloway case reignited as the main suspect's home was searched.
 
Holloway, a Mountain Brook High School graduate, disappeared two years ago in Aruba.
 
There were no visible signs of a search on the island Friday, and some believe the answers to what happened to Holloway are known, just not proven.
 
Dutch police took over the investigation of Holloway’s disappearance after local island police had been on the mystery from the beginning.
 
There have been more than a dozen suspects, but the main focus of the investigation has been on Joran Van Der Sloot. By his own admission, Van Der Sloot was with Holloway in the early morning hours of May 30, 2005, the last night of her senior trip. Also with Van Der Sloot and Holloway, were the brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe.
 
“Joran told four police officers on the beach that when he left, Natalee was sleeping on the beach and that Deepak went back on the beach and he thinks that Deepak raped and murdered Natalee and buried her by the first fisherman's hut,” said Diario Aruba's managing editor, Jossy Mansur.
 
Mansur has been on the story since the beginning.
 
“That statement of his signed and sealed by four police officers was never followed through. No further questions were made to him. It just lies there,” he said.
 
Mansur doesn't believe that declaration absolves Van Der Sloot.
 
“I think he was passing on what he may have done himself. I don't know; we don't know. We can't accuse anyone unless we have the evidence to back it up,” he said.
 
Mansur believes fresh eyes pouring over statements and evidence, new and old, could be the key to making this case.
 
“People know, more or less, about what happened, but you need the evidence to prove it in order to go to court,” he said.

I think they probably did drive towards the lighthouse or Arashi (to let the drug take effect).  Then to the Sloots.  The plan was to leave her on the beach but she had some problem at the Sloots.  They went to their usual spot, the Raquetclub (where Joran is an intern and probably has a key) and were spotted in the car (although what car I'm not sure of because I've never seen a car description by the gardner) (could be Freddy's grey car we saw in his driveway when his house was for sale).  After the gardner spotted them, one or both Ks headed home to start the alibi process.  They don't know the final Natalee outcome.  Freddy might not have been "told" the truth, he may know the truth....along with PVDS...or Val...or Sander or whoever. The raquetclub is north of the Marriott.  Maybe Joran told K2 he was going to take Natalee to the beach in hopes the water would bring her around...

I'm still not so sure.  One of the Hasibokos articles that disappeared after the remodeling was of a Dutch reporter talking to Aruban investigators.  Their theory at the time was that Natalee died at the Lighthouse in a rape-gone-bad scenario.  This was about the same time, van der Straaten told a Dutch reporter that "I know more about the case than you do."

I agree that this is what Joran told the Kalpoes when they bailed.  That's why the Kalpoes tried to find out from Freddy what really happened and why they were seen cruising the area by TJ Ward's witness.

*******, they were arrested on a Thursday, June 9, and reported on Monday, June  13, so he was still developing his story over the weekend.

The day this story hits he blames Deepak for the murder and takes them to the dunes.

The same day Joran is blaming Deepak the two Kalpoes are telling the beach story, as they were most likely instructed to do, while Joran is framing Deepak:

Fox News is now reporting that the three suspects' stories have changed now that they have been held in separate jail cells, according to the lawyer of one of the men.

Joran Van Der Sloot is now saying that his two Surinamese friends dropped him off at his home after he exchanged email addresses with Holloway. He is saying the two Kalpoe brothers were the last to see Natalee.

The two brothers, however, are now telling authorities that the left Van Der Sloot and Natalee at the beach on the northwest side of the island.

"They know these boys have been lying," Mickey Jones' attorney Chris Lejuez told FOX News.

Aruba Police Dig Aruba-Sized Hole in Search for Holloway Clues

You've almost got to feel sorry for the Aruba police.  One American disappears, and they're condemned to spend the next 50 years digging holes all over their island.  No doubt we'll soon be seeing headlines like "Aruba Digs Holes in Deep Space in Search for Holloway Clues" and "Aruba Hopes Digging Up Entire Ocean Floor Will Provide Solution to Holloway Mystery."  

Then again, this series of holes appears more promising even than the last 4,000 series of holes, as this series is being dug in the yard of a guy named Joran van der Sloot.  We do not know about you, but we think that when it comes to a guy named Joran van der Sloot we can safely throw the presumption of innocence out the window.  

Everybody knows there are no innocent Sloots.  Just guilty Sloots who haven't been caught yet.

Still, we can rest easy knowing they're not going to find anything in the Sloot series of holes either.  Which means they're going to have to dig more holes, and still more holes, and still more holes after that.  

And soon, if everything goes according to plan, Aruba will be nothing but one big hole without an American in it.

Thanks BT that is great news.  That is the second good news that I have heard today regarding someone battling cancer.  A very good friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer and her doctor gave her a good report also.  I met her today for lunch and she informed me of the good news. :D

With that..... I would be pissed as hell.  They sit down and read through 400 lbs. of pure Aruban BullSxxx and by now know more than we do which means they are totally aware of how bungled the case was.

I would think they would be hell bent on solving this thing just to show the Aruban ALE how a proper investigation is to be done.

So, that's what it takes to solve this thing.. an honest, dedicated and pissed off team on a mission.  It can be solved.  Mistakes were made.  They just have to get enough to throw the little shits in jail and the papa too.  I believe it will happen.

In some of the pictures from the search I see a guy with a hammer drill used for drilling holes into concrete.  Perhaps their sonar equipment gave indications of voids under the concrete and they made drill holes so they could extract soils for testing.  Just a guess, but that was definitely a hammer drill with a carbide tip.

I remember hinting about the FBI having found the blood evidence so long ago and wishing we could talk about it openly, but the more everyone discusses it and the more statements that evidence the truth, the sadder it is that any country can announce a confession then take it back.

The recent talk about the wikipedia misinformation about Natalee led me to do some browsing.  Did you know that Julia Renfro is listed in wikipedia, but not John Q Kelly?  Who on earth would think JR is important enough to be included, except JR herself? Rather bizarre entries about her, but also the inference that the gardener witness was her employee.  I always thought the gardener was somehow connected to Jossy?  

Anyway I got quite a laugh that she would even be in there - I certainly won't be looking to wikipedia for any reliable info in the future.

My earlier question came from a deep feeling of frustration about everything that has gone on thus far.  It is obvious to most people that have followed the case what happened that night and who was involved, but what would it take at this point in time to bring charges?

Does circumstantial evidence carry no weight in their system?  Was Paulus Van Der Sloot absolutely correct in his first assessment?  Do we all need to give our in-laws one way tickets to Aruba?

True Easy,, here is the thing though.. My hubby is a contractor... and beleive it or not. I know a bit about tools. LOL
   Hubby uses a hammer drill all the time to drill concerete.  They will have to drill and literally  bust out the concerte itself in order to get soil samples.. you need to get in there and get a handful of soil. Drilling just a hole .. isnt gonna do anything.  :(  Concrete needs busted up totally.. unless there is soe kind of probe to gi onto the whole and bring up a sample of the soil..

The fallout is too huge to comprehend … Paulus Van der Sloot … the sons of the elite … those at all levels of the Dutch/Aruban administrations who participated in the coverup as well as … the exposure of all of Aruba’s dirty little secrets encompassing drugs … gambling … prostitution … pornography …money laundering …

I suspect that Natalee Holloway’s remains will be returned to her loving family … her country.  It will be an appeasement attempt to make Natalee's family back off.  Joran … maybe Deepak … will be held accountable … accountable for disposing of Natalee after she “apparently” died of a drug overdose. The consequences ... a slap on the wrist.

Did Shango's "theory" not imply that the Joran (Lamb) would be the sacrifice while Paulus (Elder) and the "powers that be" (Dirty Hands) would be spared?

I have a cancer story ...my brother.. lymphoma...everywhere .. . very serious, operation, blood transfusions, chemotherapy for six months. This was ten years ago. Still cancer free. When he felt he couldn't go on, well, we carried him, cheered him up, fed him, made him laugh. He goes for the scans and blood work frequently just in case.

My take on when this could / would be solved is to lay those charges
against the Kalpoes. The kidnapping, the rape, the sexual assault.
Even Joran says he thinks Deepak did it. Then we will see the Crown Witness thing come in. To get at Joran. Dompig said they had enough
for the rape / assault, just do it !  They don't all have to be charged at once or for the same charges. Joran is the prime suspect for the murder, but the 2 year clock might be ticking on the other two.

Angie you are right. The drill would make a hole or bust up the concrete but would need something else to actually bring the soil out of the hole.

I understand your premise, but can’t completely agree.  I too am familiar with tools and their usage.  I come from a long line of contractors and one of my earliest summer jobs was to take a cold chisel to hardened concrete.  For the past 25 years, I have been the guy that makes concrete specifications and I know what should be immediately below the concrete and several inches down, depending upon the application.  If we were talking about a building site, I would require that the concrete be core drilled at certain intervals and tests done.  However, we are talking about a guy’s patio in this instance.  Drilling to an acceptable depth and testing with a probe might be adequate.  If not, drilling a series of holes about a given radius would allow for a larger sampling.

Sorry, I’m sure that is some boring chit, but I am trying to say don’t be so quick to rule out possibilities.  The drill was there.  People used it.  And, we are told many, many soil samples were taken from the site.

Easy, it might help people to understand where you're coming from if you tell them what you do for a living. Not where you work, I mean - just your "trade," sotaspeak.

I am hoping that what they find as far as forensics during the recent search of the Sloot house will push the case toward trial. I don't profess to understand the Dutch legal system, and not knowing at this time what evidence has been obtained I tend to think it largely falls in the circumstantial  pile. Don't get me wrong, I think the forensic evidence was there in the begining, and as we have come to learn as this case drags on.....it was ,IMO purposefully ignored and/or contaminated. A good example of this is the blood evidence in Deepak's car. I recall early on reading that an FBI agent had seen this blood in Deepaks car and his practiced eye indeed said it was blood....yet testing turned up chocolate and cleaning fluid. This I don't believe for one single second!

Everyone here is right tonight.  These guys should have been toast over a year ago.   If the KLPD don't do anything after all this, they will forever be linked to the unsolved disappearance of an American.  The name Aruba already brings to mind Natalee Holloway.  No way around it...the only thing that would save face for the Dutch is to send Joran and the Kalpoes to jail.  If we can discover the inconsistencies and outright lies of all involved, there is no way the KLPD can't do the same.  I would hate to think that a bunch of monkeys were smarter than they are.  

Joran is guilty!  The dutch know it...it's the corruption that has made this case what it is.  The Klapoes are equally guilty!  They have had several opportunities to rat out the Sloots.  We have seen the hints in their statements. They did  more than just rape Natalee.

 If the Dutch know more than we do at this point....there is no way they can just let this go and not do something about it all.  It would be the death of Aruba.  If the people of Aruba can't see that then I would start moving off the island...because a Case Closed scenario would be more than just a door slam in their faces.

I have been trying not to take some things personally, but that seems to be almost impossible at times.    Some of you might know that I have three sons.  The two oldest have been dreams.  In fact, both of them found Christ very early and made that commitment.  That personal relationship with Jesus has driven them from that moment on and all I (as the dad) had to do was smile at their accomplishments.

Life doesn’t let any of us have a free ride, so my time was coming in the form of my youngest child.  In all honesty, he was too young to understand divorce and the change probably affected him the most.  Oh, I could write a dime-store novel about all the things that have happened over the years, but that would serve no purpose.  None of this really serves a purpose, except that it lets me vent the confusion.

He has gone into a rage and attacked me physically, then apologized with his first waking breath.  He has taken my car while I slept and disconnected my land-lines so no one could call.  He has emptied my wallet and used my credit cards.  He is my mixed up kid and I am not ready to give up on him.  Why do I bring this erratic family history to the forefront?  Why?  Because he is facing a revocation hearing on his probation and I don’t think jail is the answer.

There is a problem, but will six months spent with the worst of the worse solve the problem?  Sorry for the rant…. I no longer have control of the situation and that bothers me.

EASY - that's a tough spot you are in.  It's possible that 6 months will either make or brake him.  I'm hoping it is a wakeup call for him and he changes his life around.

Hang in there Easy.  I have a belief that good things happen to good people.  I see you as good people.

I am so sorry to hear about your ordeal. These are the things that keep me up at night thinking about my young boys and the decisions I am making.

But you must remember that in the end the decisions he made have lead him into this situation. Your job is to let him know that no matter what happens you will always love and cherish him, but at the same time he has to take responsibility for his actions.

All you can ever give is your best and your love. He is a young man and his decisions he owns all by himself. So remind him that at the end of the day you will always be there for him but that his actions do have consequences.

Again, you have my deepest empathy. I could not imagine the heartache you are experiencing.

I would go to the booth and say, I'm here to see my daughter, her co workers knew who I was, and I had a man ( probably a laywer ) say how sorry he was for me as I looked like such a nice lady.

If this is an addiction issue with your son , then a treatment centre or
AA or NA would be the best, but you can't make him go. And you can't keep enabling him either, because that just prevents him from facing his problems and issues. And things will just get worse until the point of no probation. Can't he be sent by the court to treatment ? They do that here. Sometimes, it's at the end of a sentence where they go to a live in
house for treatment.

AT ANY TIME, they could have charged K2. Whenever they wanted to. We know little about the evidence Aruba has against them but if they HAVE it, they have had 2 years now to enact the scapegoat scenario. K2 are not the sons of a Dutch judge, they are not protected in ANY way. The only protection K2 has is WHAT THEY KNOW and HOW WILLING THEY ARE TO TELL IT.

Dave used to say something about lesser charges. And did they ( the family and the prosecutor ) want to do that. This is along time ago, but I do remember him saying something about being asked if they wanted to wait. Once the charges are laid, they can't be bumped up to a higher charge. Same as here. You can't charge for third degree or manslaughter and then after the charges are laid, go for first degree, if new information comes to light. And they do not do jury trials. There is something else that is different : Do they have preliminary hearings  ?

Kat_Gram , your hope should not be dashed. Having completed the search, if this is indeed thed case, KLPD will have to undoubtedly comb through what has been collected for the evidence they seek. I have faith. They'll find what they went there searching for.

Well, here the jury has the option of applying whatever charge they think would most apply.  The DA usually asks for the highest of them such as first degree murder but the jury can return a verdict of guilty of manslaughter.

If everything we have been told about their "system" were true, they would literally never be able to get a conviction and yet we know they do.

And theirs being the Napolianic system is supposed to be the far harsher of the two.  That's a joke!

Maybe that is what the Dutch are doing, building a case ???
I guess it is them who will make the recommendation to the new prosecutor depending on their findings.

My take is that charges will be brought against 3, 4 or more folks - soon. The Dutch would LIKE to have some (or more) physical evidence - but if they don't find it, nonetheless some will be charged.

We were discussion the other day if Joran had a shower in his apartment.  From Joran's book translation, Chapter 3:

- "But" Joran writes, "they cannot watch me 24/7" because at age 15 he moved to the apartment.

page 8:

- the apartment has it's own shower, toilet and kitchen. He liked being given a bit of privacy by his parents. He says he needed that too because he started going through puberty pretty early.

- if his parents forbade him to go out, he went without them knowing. It was easy, the apartment is 10 metres from the house and just a few metres from the fence/wall of their property. He could sneak in and out without his parents knowing at all.

- if he had to be home at 1am, he came home just before 1am. Went to his parents bedroom, said goodnight I am home, see you tomorrow. Then went to his apartment, waited a little while, then got out to the road where his friends would be waiting in a car to go out again

And this mama would have been waiting on the other side of that fence when he hit the ground, too!  :D  

Trust but verify was always my motto when rearing teenage boys!.

It's very obvious that Joran also must have had a PC or Laptop and probably a printer in his apartment as well.

I have often wondered why they have so many accidents on that tiny island. Afterall it is what 25 miles long only, how fast do they haved to go? Geeesh!

Thanks klaas, so he had that for quite awhile. Who knows what has happened there in the past. I can't believe that they think a 15 year old should have his own apartment like that. That, was a prescription for disaster, IMO

Well you know I am an EMT now right?  I was driving home with my dad "who paid for my schooling" and there was a man that collapsed in the street, ..  2 firefighters were there already but couldnt get things going right, so I did CPR, while they did breathing and put him on the defibulator.  By round 5 of CPR, he regained conciousness.  All that, and my dad got to see how I work too.    And yes see, I told you about that blood.

Watch out in the press, on cable and on the Internet if this case is closed. To me, the boycott and pressure up to now is small compared to what will be in the future if the Dutch don't solve this.

I agree with you Blah.  I had an uneasy feeling about these investigators.  I'm tired of them saying they are the equivalent of the FBI because they are not.  If they were there would be arrests.  This has been a plan for a long time now.

ORANJESTAD – The police corps committed a blunder in the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. According to ex-commissioner Stanley Zaandam, who dedicates attention to the case here and also in his upcoming publication.

According to Zaandam, the nominations - of among others Commissioners Bernardina, Dompig, Hassel and Richardson, along with 34 high-rank 1st class inspectors - which are against the law and hierarchy of the KPA [police corps], have serious consequences for the quality and integrity of work in KPA.

Accoding to Zaandam, none of the high-ranked commissioners has the qualifications nor experience to conduct a judicial investigation.

According to Zaandam, Commissioner Dompig is under the instruction of Minister Rudy Croes, of MEP.

He also states that 20 other policemen were ranked high on a political list. Five others (…) among them Commissioner Hassell, according to Zaandam.

He also claims this is how Commissioner vd Straten was appointed to this case. However, according to Zaandam, this should not be work for a commissioner.

BLUNDER

Zaandam continues talking about the blunder under which the 3 youngsters were questioned, which should have been a simple case, but one that resulted in KPA’s biggest blunder, due to the deceitfulness of JvdS, Satish and Deepak Kalpoe, they remained free another 12 days.

FALSE ARREST

Zaandam keeps on saying in his book, two days after 5/29, the body of Natalee H. may have already been found and Cvp [police commissioner] looked the other way to do a favour for Paul vd Sloot (ex of chief staff of Cabinet PG [prosecutor general] J. Zwinkels). To exculpate the son of Paul, the CvP and fiscal chief prosecutor Karen Jansen made the false arrest of two ex-security guards, Jones and John , called this a ‘tactical maneuver’ , and denied them their freedom for another 10 days.

Dave Holloway also mentions this in his book. It is truely amazing though that they mention that Natalee's body may have been found as early as 2 days after going missing. Having read this earlier in the case, I personally didn't give it as much weight as I now think this information truely deserves. I think it may be they crux of it all. Could it Zaandam who provided the info to KLPD which prompted this last search?

You bet it is but it's going to have to wait till tomorrow.  I'm heading out to Chicago in a couple of minutes with a trunk load of birthday presents. Thinkin' about taking a little putt down to Cincinnati tomorrow to ride along the river over to Louisville and back home.  At least that's the plan.

It is truely amazing. I think the diseased apple is about to fall, we know and see it is rotten to the core.

I humbly disagree. If the Dutch were "investigating" this in the early stages of the case, I would expect a QUICK and professional result. However, remember this is absolutely the last remaining chance to do it 100% correct. If they don't "dot every i and cross every t " -- the perps will walk forever.  We have waited this long -- let's allow them to be absolutely sure they can PROVE their case and don't rush them.

BB if you recall Jules Sambo is a 1st Class Inspector and also involved in the case of Max DeVries.

In order to make it to Commissioner, it seems you need to be a 'team player' and cover up as much stuff as humanly possible. Then they know they have their man or woman.
