The Aruban newspaper, AweMeinta, opened their Wednesday edition with the following headline: “Tata di Joran cu caso kontra Ministerio Publico”, the translation of this headline is: “Joran’s father takes justice ministry to court”. The article relates that Joran’s father, Paulus van der Sloot, has lost his patience. Paulus van der Sloot is taking the justice ministry to court because Unlike Joran’s mother, he hasn’t been allowed to visit his son since his arrest. Van der Sloot is also mad because Joran’s attorney, Antonio Carlo,  has been dismissed by the justice  ministry. The case is supposed to begin today in Aruban court.

So far I have found it hard to be impressed by this investigation, but I will say that Joran's father having no access to him at least this long has impressed me some.  Surprised and a little impressed by that.  Not that I still don't believe that he's being protected, but I'm glad his father hasn't had access to him.

maybe his father can talk sense to him...it's 2v1, if Deepak and those guys start talking and Joren is the guilty party, he is basically screwed, but if he cooperates he could have a better shot...just the glass half full approach i guess

Why shouldn't the father visit?  I'm certainly not supporting this punk Joran, but the laws in this country are so damn confusing.

In our country inmates are allowed visitors.  Even the BTK killer had visits from his priest...his family refused to visit (can't blame em') But, in our country interrogation is intense and tough and FAIR!!!

The Aruban people seem lovely.  But, the LE community is baffling!

That's possible.  That crossed my mind too.  But if the brothers hold out that they know nothing and saw nothing except dropping the two off, and no physical evidence is found, then Joran could hold out forever and be set free.  His father would also know that too.

I'm not sure how the law works down there, but here in the US an individual can get private council who will just pass on instructions to the son on how to behave, what to do and what not to do.  It really doesn't matter if the father has direct access to the son, they can still communicate.

From what it sounds like, the head of the investigation will just tell the kid what to do.

Does it not him being a juvenile make things very easy for him Ben? Or does Arubian law not recognise juvenile rights? Like in the USA

I wonder, if reports are right, why Joran's attorney was dismissed.  From what I'm gathering, at this point he has no council.  That's how I take that report anyway.

That is how I feel also.  Trust is something to be earned - the other night when we were online and Nat's classmates were online.  They said the police and officials went to Joran's house the next night and their father started getting into almost "an argument."  TRUST HAS TO BE EARNED. FOR BOTH PEOPLE WITH MONEY AND PEOPLE WITHOUT.

Dragonfly -

Antonio Carlos was presumably dismissed for talking about someting he shouldn't have, IIRC from some TV report. Could have been talking to the press or talking about the statements from the other 2.. was something like that though, I think...

hey guys in LE, do you think the arubian authorities even have a clue as to what's going on?

I mean, you talk of chandra levy case, but the main difference here is that we know who was last seen w/ NH, and we know they have lied at least once...

so there are suspects

I agree here.  The computer and phone records may be all that they have at this point.  And I'm hoping there are things there that can help determine whose story is closer to the truth.  I am assuming that they have all that information by now from the computers and phones.  It would be nice to know what they have found and whose story it most likely supports.  Depak's attorney seems pretty sure of his client and Mickey said that Depak was very confident he would be let out soon.  I wonder, then, if he knew computer information and phone records would support his account of what happened.

Bamajo - go to the front of the site for the latest.

In a nutshell - There may be video evidence that Joran participated in a gang bang of a 14-year old. His lawyer has been dismissed and his father is going to court to try to visit him.

A news report said that the police commissioner called himself a 'best friend' of Joran's father.
