Life in the capital of Iran seems eerily normal on the eve of what will likely be one of the larger demonstrations in recent weeks. Indeed, many fear it may be the bloodiest of all. But, as the city waits, punk skateboarders show off their moves to the thump-thump of French electro at Enqelab Sports Complex. Groups of women in chadors amble by the fragrant booths of spice dealers at the city's famed Grand Bazaar. Young couples lounge in a coffee shop at Haft e-Tir, the epicenter of a quashed protest just last week.

This goes on day after day, and is hardly a blip on the screen for the American Government. Hillary had a broke elbow, but she could manage to express that it ok for Iran to have nukes, but as far as I can remember, O has had nothing to say about the blood letting in the street. Does anybody get the feeling that we need a REAL leader?

Fanny,it's a full time job driving Americans into the ground and planning a keg party.......       I am disgusted.

No~You heard correct, but I did hear today that Crowley is taking his attorney with him I wouldn't go for all the tea in China-it's nothing more than a photo op for the Prez and his  POS prof friend. It's a damn shame O got involved in this, but anyone who's read any of his votes going back as far as the late 90's would understand that he has had an agenda all along, and it's NOT a uniter but a divider. He can't stand up to North Korea, Russia or Iran (instead he APOLOGIZES for America), but I guess he thinks trying to leap into a case which is equivalent to a bully on the playground will show the world he's trying to smooth over tensions    yeah right...........I'm so ashamed and embarrassed he is the President of our Country

I so agree with you Island Monkey. We knew that this  man is an arrogant elitist.  When he said that his grandmother, the woman who raised him, was a "Typical white woman" who would cross the street if she saw a black man, and then having that dumb speech lauded as the greatest since the Gettysburg address, he sounded as if he is a racist.  He has now erased all doubt about it.  He immediately jumped to defend that Harvard professor who teaches, as far as I can tell, all about white guilt. Hussein was ignorant about the situation, but it is a knee-jerk reaction with racists. I knew when he was campaigning that he is a Trojan Horse, and he has proven me right.  He is a socialist, likely a closet Moslem, and hates whites.  He wants to make our country like the third world country he was probably born in, Kenya, and the Dems in Congress are too blinded by his radiance to know what he is up to, or don't care as long as they get to keep their health care and let us peasants, especially us older peasants, do without quality health care.  I suppose they'll suggest killing us off next.

WASHINGTON – The Senate's top Republican accused Democrats of cutting Medicare to finance a "massive new government-run" health care plan, as the last of three House committees pushed its way through a compromise version of the health care overhaul Thursday.

"Some in Congress seem to be in such a rush to pass just any reform, rather than the right reform, that they're looking everywhere for the money to pay for it, even if it means sticking it to seniors with cuts to Medicare," said Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in the latest in a series of daily Senate speeches on health care.

McConnell's Republicans, unanimously opposed to Democratic-drafted legislation in the House, are watching warily while three members of their rank-and-file negotiate over a bipartisan plan in the Senate that could hand President Barack Obama a victory on his top domestic priorit

  WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama does not expect his "beer summit" will be a mediation session for the black professor and the white policeman who arrested him to work out their differences, the White House said Thursday.
Obama invited Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley to join him for a beer in hopes of quieting the furor over the president's comment that in taking Gates into custody police had "acted stupidly."


Gibbs told reporters that none of the three planned to say anything about their meeting when reporters are allowed to join them Thursday evening during a brief photo opportunity.

"This is not an after action report," Gibbs said, adding that the White House "is not here to mediate any apologies."

Crowley arrested Gates and charged him with disorderly conduct for protesting the policeman's actions when he came to the professor's home in response to a report of a possible break-in. The charges were later dropped.

A new poll by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center found that 41 percent disapproved of Obama's handling of the Gates arrest, compared with 29 percent who approved. The poll also found that nearly 80 percent of Americans said they are now aware of Obama's comments on the matter.

The president's approval ratings also fell, especially among working class whites, as the focus of the Gates story shifted from details about the incident to Obama's remarks, the poll said. Among whites in general, more disapprove than approve of his comments by a 2-1 margin.

The poll of 1,506 adults was conducted Wednesday to Sunday last week. Among those interviewed on Wednesday and Thursday, 53 percent of whites approved of Obama's job performance. This slipped to 46 percent among whites interviewed Friday through Sunday as the Gates

 Police bomb squad and the FBI were investigating a suspicious package Thursday found at the Charlotte airport in North Carolina.

A "suspicious device" was found about 2 p.m. at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, police spokeswoman Jean Wassenaar told The Charlotte *******.

Concourses A and B were evacuated, and the Transportation Safety Administration has closed off the area where the device was discovered, according to the paper.

There was no immediate word about flight delays.
