I am curious too...I did find this on the Find Ayla FB page:

"Waterville Deputy Police Chief Charles Rumsey said police conducted extensive interviews and believe there is nothing suspicious about the broken arm, which he said was suffered in an accident several weeks ago."

20 Month Old Ayla Reynolds Missing Since 12/17/11 in Waterville, Maine

Note: The missing toddlers parents do not live together. Ayla lives with her father, Justin Dipietro,  and her mother, Trista Reynolds, lives in Portland , although she does not have a permanent address.

Maybe I missed something, but the toddlers name is Ayla Reynolds, the mom's last name with no perm address is Reynolds; however, the dad's last name is Dipietro, who the missing baby lives with. Um, huh? Were they ever married? Why doesn't the child have the dad's last name if he is the custodian?

Red, I was thinking about that last night. Perhaps the Mom and Dad were never a 'real' couple', so to speak. Single Mom's don't always give their kids the baby daddy's last name, no?

Family in Portland awaits word as search for toddler continues
Police, wardens and volunteers in Waterville look for Ayla Reynolds, missing since Saturday.

WATERVILLE - Search parties combed a Waterville neighborhood Sunday, but as evening fell they still had not found a 20-month-old girl reported missing Saturday morning.

David Leaming/Morning Sentinel

Ronald Reynolds of Portland is shown holding his granddaughter, Ayla Reynolds, in a family photo.

Ayla Reynolds, dressed only in pajamas and wearing a soft cast from a broken arm, was last seen sleeping in her bed in her father's home at 8 p.m. Friday, Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey told reporters at a news conference Sunday afternoon.

Ayla lived in Portland until October, and her mother and other family members still live in the Portland area, where they waited anxiously for information on Sunday.

So in less than 2 months she breaks her arm then goes missing?

Mother of missing 20-month-old was seeking sole custody
12-19-11
WATERVILLE, Maine — The mother of a missing 20-month-old girl in Maine says she’d filed paperwork seeking sole custody of the toddler a day before her daughter went missing.

Trista Reynolds told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday that she and Ayla Reynold’s father have been unable to get along in the last few weeks and parent together. She says she didn’t tell the father, Justin DiPietro, that she’d filed the court paperwork Thursday.

Reynolds says she hasn’t talked to DiPietro since Ayala went missing from her father’s Waterville home ................snipped

Missing Maine girl's relatives feared for her
 ::snipping2::

Whitney Raynor, her mother's stepsister, said Monday that welfare agents had placed Ayla with her father in November while the mother was in rehab for substance abuse. The girl had bruises after being in her father's care, Raynor said, in addition to a broken arm three weeks ago.

"Our biggest fear is that he lost his temper and something happened. We're trying not to think about that, but in the back of our minds it's our biggest fear," Raynor said Monday from Portland, where mother Trista Reynolds lives.

The father moved four to six weeks ago to his childhood home on Violette Street in a tidy neighborhood of ranch houses built after World War II, a neighbor said. A few blocks away is a park, alongside the stream.

Search for missing 20-month-old Waterville girl expands to Messalonskee Stream

The warden service began searching the surface and banks of Messalonskee Stream by plane, boat and foot on Monday, expanding the search area from the weekend, Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said during a press conference Monday afternoon.

Massey said 75 investigators are assigned to the case, including 25 from the warden service who pushed their search to the river.

“It’s very important for us to be methodical, it’s very important for us to follow every single lead,” he said. Massey added that all groups involved in the search would continue to “pour our resources in.”

Massey wouldn’t say whether police believed Ayla had been taken from the Violette Avenue home, wandered off into the cold or whether something else happened.

“The focus, obviously, is to bring Ayla home,” Massey said.

On Nancy Grace the Mother said that the baby daddy sperm donor claimed he fell onto Ayla and that is how her arm got broken......

I say BS, baby daddy is lying through his teeth, imo. This sounds like an immature jackass sperm donor. Also there is no way this child slept more than 12 hours without waking up!

Also on Nancy Grace the Mother said Ayla missed several appointments for shots and a bone specialist since he has had Ayla.

Mother went to rehab to seek help and left the child with her sister to care for. According to the Mom the baby daddy then went and took the child which he has had hardly any contact with or interest in before. Mother and maternal Grandmother were living in a hotel when the state gave Ayla to the father. A relative on CNN said the baby daddy has family who work with DCHS and speculated that is how he got custody.

I think the Mother fell on hard times but by all appearances was trying to get help for herself and children.
