 The flooding is all around, but not in my immediate area. I have never seen this much rain in June before! Our lakes have been down about 20 feet for the last 3 years -- now they are bursting and they can't release water due to the already flooding down river from them. :shock:

We live not too far from Marble Falls, which had 19 inches of rain last night.....it is incredible.

Robots................I know you don't usually "make over" for holidays, and there's no way I could improve on "you".   :wink: I just want to be sure you know that you haven't been overlooked.

BTW...............has anyone seen SunFreak? She asked for a makeover and I did this for her. I know she's recouperating from surgery, but if anyone sees her, tell her it's a "Get Well" gift. It's in the Lounge. I'll post it here in hopes she finds it.

Peaches, we are way behind in rain too! Everything is SO dry! My lillies are about the only thing that seem unaffected. They plant daylilies here in the medians because they withstand such heat and drought conditions!

I can't wait till Sunfreak sees that!  It's beautiful!  You're getting good at this!  Now to find a way to make money playing around with it.

It's bad.  They've had to open 4 of the floodgates....and then the river near us isn't supposed to crest until Friday.  :shock:

Did anyone watch Larry King tonight?  I just couldn't stomach the thought of listening to Paris born-again Hilton.  :x  Over-exposure in every sense of the word.

I watched part of it.  I thought she did pretty well.  She didn't seem phony.  She looked nice.

Talking of monkeys - to those that follow the www.africam.com website that Artcolley recommended, we spent hours last evening watching a large group of monkeys.  There were several youngsters and they were having a great time playing "chasings" Also we saw wart hogs, wildebeest and antelopes.  Lots of game around at present.

You know, somewhere on the internet was a poll asking if she looked better, prettier, with or without all the makeup.....97% said without.  Maybe she is listening.  
And, if she didn't come across as phony that is good, real good.  Maybe the 3 weeks did make a lasting impression.  The 8th grade girls I teach attempt to emulate her, so a change could be a real plus.

Paris did say she realizes she is a role model for young girls and wants to be a better one.  She always seems to be looking at some other philanthropic ideas.  She's barely outta the pokey.  I''m willing to let her figure out that she needs to act her age.

I thought she looked cute when she was leaving jail.  She didn't have her blue contacts on and her hair was out of her face.  She did well until she had to run to her mother at the end.  

I feel bad for her.  Poor thing has grown up in a fishbowl.

Paris is actually very successful on her own.  Of course, her last name is still Hilton and I'm sure it opened some doors for her but sometimes the press almost blames her for being born rich ....  as if she had anything to do with it.  

I think she's doing pretty well for a high school drop out with diagnosed ADD.

The lakes around the area (Lavon, Lewisville, Granbury, Possum Kingdom (quit laughing all you Yankees  :wink: ), are all bulging and the rivers leading in and out are at flood stage. Roads in the Metroplex are fine at present -- but monitor it closely!

Oduber looses case against Diario  

ORANJESTAD – In a lawsuit that Oduber had instituted against the morning paper Diario, of which the hearing was this morning, the judge ruled that he doesn’t think that Diario has insulted Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP) in an article on the Namdar-case.    

The premier demanded rectification as a result of an article that appeared in the paper on May 14th that stated that the premier ‘has declared himself as main suspect’ in the Namdar-case.  Diario refused to rectify and the premier instituted the lawsuit due to insultation and slurring on his integrity.  “I admit in Oduber’s favour that Diario does impudent assertions in the article about the involvement of the government and the government party in a bribery scandal, but those assertions are strongly put into perspective”, said the judge.  According to him, it is about an analysis of the case and not a statement of the case.

Oduber’s reaction is that he will not appeal.  “I have lost enough time in this case already.  It has become clear to me that everybody can publish anything they want about the government, and not be prosecuted.  We have actually been outlawed.”

Secretary of state does not act against MEP-boycott Diario  

ORANJESTAD – With much interest, secretary of state Ank Bijleveld-Schouten of Kingdom Relations ( CDA ) follows the case around the Aruban governmental party MEP boycotting Diario, but she will not take any actions in this.  “The primary responsibility for guaranteeing the implementation of the democratic principles, is with the countries selves”, indicated Bijleveld in a letter to Andin Bikker, chair of the extraparliamentary group Partido Democracia Real.  

Bikker has asked the Kingdom’s Council of Ministers on April 21st to take actions against MEP’s call for a boycott.  The party decided to do this after a number of not-liked publications of Diario.  In his request, Bikker refers to a letter dated April 17th, in which the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) declared that MEP’s call to boycott Diario means violation of article 5 of the Treaties of Chapultepec.  

According to Bijleveld, this declaration is judicially not binding however.  “The guarantee-function in article 43 of the Statute that you refer at, guarantees the implementation of the democratic principles of the constitution.  The primary responsibility for this is with the countries themselves though.  The appropriate measures from the Kingdom are only taken when it appears that a country does not sufficiently interpret these structurally.  But that is not the case here”, wrote Bijleveld to Bikker.

Working and Lurking. . .

It seems that with all the technology we have today, there should be some way to move all that rain in Texas a couple of hundred miles to the east where we need it so desperately--cloud seeding or something.

The dust is terrible here and people are wearing masks outside for mowing or just about anything.  I am having difficulty with asthma and also my eyes burning from it and from drying out all the time.  Also, houseflies outside are starting to BITE, I guess they are desperately thirsty.  

Two counties in west Georgia are out of water and there is a strange pumping sound or motion to our water here now which is sort of scary.  Never heard it before so I hope we are not getting low also.  I can't imagine trying to transport water for all these dogs and four horses.

So let's all cross our fingers that the rain will drift east and say prayers or whatever you do in a case like this.

And I do hope those claiming to keep dossiers on us all take note of the Oduber ruling.  Analysis of the situation does not constitute slander nor anything more than free speech and freedom of the press, etc.  Saying you might like something or other to happen or that it is your opinion that it might well happen some day does NOT constitute a threat.

Just as kidnapping does not require a ransom demand, some might benefit from looking up what does constitute a threat.  People who live in glass houses and all that. . . .

MADRID, Spain  —  Spanish police arrested an Italian man Thursday with possible links to Madeleine McCann, the 4-year-old British girl who vanished nearly two months ago during a vacation in Portugal, news reports said.

The man was detained near the southern port city of Algeciras, according to a report on the Web site of Spanish newspaper El Pais.

According to the El Pais article, police from a special anti-kidnapping unit began searching a residence around 5:00 a.m. local time.

Madeleine disappeared on May 3 after her parents left her and her brother and sister, 2-year-old twins, alone in their room while they went to a restaurant inside their hotel complex in Praia da Luz, a tiny resort town in Portugal's Algarve region.

Police have identified just one suspect in the case, but made no arrests before Thursday.

A month ago, Portuguese police said they were searching for a suspect — a white man between 35 and 40 years old — in connection with the girl's disappearance. They said the suspect had been wearing a dark jacket and beige trousers on the day the girl disappeared, and was spotted possibly carrying the girl near to where she had vanished. Police have received countless tip-offs in the last two months, and the girl's parents have launched an international campaign to find her, enlisting the aid of celebrities such as soccer star David Beckham and J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books.

Reports: Man Arrested For Madeleine Kidnapping

The Portuguese police have told Sky News that an Italian man and a Portuguese woman have been arrested in Spain for the suspected kidnapping of Madeleine McCann.
The website of the Spanish El Pais newspaper says the man was picked up in the port city of Algeciras in the south of the country near Gibraltar in the early hours of this morning.
 
Four-year-old MadeleineMadeleine disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in the seaside resort of Praia da Luz in Portugal on May 3.

Sky News producer, Gaynor Jesus, who is based in the town, said police had confirmed to her that there had been two arrests but that they would give no further details.  

Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, have remained in Portugal as they continue the search for their daughter.
 
The couple said they would stay there until they are ready to return to Britain with the youngster.

They have been living in an apartment close to the holiday resort flat where Madeleine was snatched from her bed.

 
The McCannsBrian Kennedy, Madeleine's Uncle, told Sky news: "Our hopes have been raised several times by reported sightings.

"We're trying not to get our hopes up too much because they so frequently get dashed.

"We've been cautioned to be careful not to read too much into reports but it shows people haven't forgotten about Madeleine even if the reports come to nothing.

"We don't want people to become tired of the story and they don't seem to be - everybody's been very kind and supportive."

There have been a host of reports of possible sightings of Madeleine, most recently in Malta.

The police there said they have received eight fresh reports in the past few days from people claiming to have seen the four-year-old, from Rothley, Leicestershire.

The reports follow a wave of possible sightings of girls matching Madeleine's description across the island.

Travel agents attending the travel show in New Orleans are being reminded of Natalee Holloway even as we speak ... the show opened yesterday (6/27) and continues through July 2.

Wish these "Justice for Natalee" activists well as they continue to confront and confound the Aruba Tourism Association (or whatever it's called - ATA).

The names of Nelson Oduber and Rudy Croes have been mentioned many times during the last two years.  Does anyone know why the Govenor General of Aruba, Fredis Refunjol, is rarely if ever mentioned?  Would he not be able to have some impact on the progress of this case?  He is, after all, appointed by the Queen to this position and would surely have some influence in Aruba and be communicating with the Netherlands....

Fox news channel just said something about this, as well, but did not include the Conn. info.  Also said it told of his being replaced in some performance by another wrestler due to his wife's death....mentioned Benoit may have done it, himself.  

Also reported that the two men arrested in Spain in the Madeleine McCann disappearance were trying to extort $ from the family for information...

As I understand it, the Governor General, much like the Queen, is just a figurehead and doesn't actually do much in the workings of the actual government.

But I will have to say that I am beginning to doubt the Dutch are going to actually do anything, either.  If they were planning to do so, I believe we would have seen some movement by now.  Some of those listed as suspects seem to have moved completely out of the country now as with the Gottenbos.

I understand being slow and methodical but nothing takes this long.  It appears to me to be stalling hoping for something more important to come along and take off the pressure.  Maybe they will make their big announcement the weekend of the 4th of July in keeping with their tradition of doing so on Friday of a holiday weekend in this country.

They both sell ecstasy.  Joran really keeps throwing Deepak under that bus.  Joran is a drug user and abuser not just pot.  JMO.

He is a ciggy smoker too. We first heard that he smoked menthols from that reporter in the National Enquirer. He told her that he took NH back to his house and had sex with her. Asked if she wanted to him to bite her. :shock: He is totally opposite of the delicious sporter image anita tried to put out.

igsigs ... I learned with the my eldest son when he was a teen ... a parent should never say the word "never" in regards to their offspring.  There were many a time when I was left with egg on my face when it was revealed that in spite of my claims to the contrary ... he "did".   :)

My guess is this is the guy who gave/sold Joran the date rape drug which was administered to Natalee that night. The mysterious 6:30 AM cell call over to Santa Lucia was most likely to this man, and most likely from a frantic Joran unable to revive Natalee. The guy is probably also the one that took Natalee away from Joran and probably disposed of her.

Two Unconfirmed Reports

A message board poster on AOL from Aruba is claiming that three additional men are being questioned. And, that this has been going on the last two days or so. Says American news sources are reporting inaccurate information and seems to be solidly defending Van der Sloot in his posts/responses.


Two quotes on AOL message board site:

1) Thank you for being so positive and not blaming this all on the Arubian law enforcement. They are also now talking to three other men.

2) Faces are blocked in the pictures. Can't tell who they are. It was reported first about 3 days ago in awe mainta. No one else has talked about it then saw it again today in awe mainta. Unfortunately all they say is that they are two arubians and one colombian. I can speculate but that is it

That non-English publication should be at the link. I'd think some reader here can likely disprove it. The second unconfirmed report is below.



On Natalee's Yahoo forum there there is a report that a helicopter is searching Santa Lucia area because according to the cell phone records of one of the three suspects there was a call in the Santa Lucia area at 6:30 am the morning Natalee was to have met up with the group to leave for airport.
Santa Lucia is in Santa Cruz....pass the Ayo Rock Formations.... Right where they have the Donkey sanctuary on map on 2nd page of map Body maybe somewhere around area of Ayo Rock Formations.

The only way the one above would be at all credible is if you knew the records mentioned above were difficult to obtain. I can't imagine any scenario wherein the searching of that area, were the record story true, would be taking place this late in the game. Any earlier report that stated the records were obtained and looked at would seriously call into question the above report.




These are two unconfirmed reports. I'm certain a reader here can address one. The other needs to be taken at face value and cannot be confirmed. When something is unconfirmed, its real value is in helping you to draw a conclusion, or confirm something down the road.

For example, someone tells you that someone is searching for something by helicopter on the East end of an Island. You don't know the source, so the information is unconfirmed.

The next report is a radio broadcast telling you at day break a large contingent of police set off from the station and appear to be heading for the East end of the Island. This elevates the level of believability in report one and makes two all the more significant.

Most journalism comes with a relative factor of believability. The MSM does its job when it presents you information with a very high standard in the above regard.

Unencumbered as he is by certain restrictions, a blogger can present you with information of very different levels of trust, so long as he identifies them as such. This allows you to participate in a manner that the MSM, rightfully, cannot afford you. There are many advantages in this, maybe we'll explore them sometime.

The MSM shows you the finished piece. Eventually a blogger in an ideal situation, and this blog is not that at present, not only allows you to view the finished piece, he also shows you his work. The notion that unconfirmed information has no value is a myth. What's at issue here is, who gets to see it.

In case you didn't hear, the helicopters were being used at night as the infra-red requires temperature differences to see, consequently the cooler night air helps. Also, apparently the calculated rate of cooling for a human body and the air around Aruba last night worked out to there being enough difference for the technology to function.

What is unclear is if there were other nights this would have been so and the birds simply weren't ordered up, or deliverable. Or if a series of hot nights meant there was little point in making an attempt. Perhaps someone will ask that question of the authorities, or already has.

In Balashi. Go LG Smith Blvd on the way to Saint Nicholaas. It is on the left side, I believe the Balashi Plant is on the right and there is a stop light I think.

Everyone of them has spectacular homes...Lorenzo's may not have the sq footage of the Gottenboes or GVC..But its all by itself with some property,pool and other bdgs..Again it looks like 3x the size of the homes around him

But most of those appear to be very tiny about the size of the thatched hut for the pool!  Compared to the home of GVC for example, this one is not exceptional IN MY OPINION, just uglier.

It's still not a "mansion" just because the neighbors live in abject poverty.  

Oh, nevermind!  Guess it has tunnels under it to the ocean, too, despite the fact they would have to go for miles and under a major thoroughfare?

Kidding aside, the picture that Rob blew up makes the house seem as though it's 2 stories.  I can't see windows though.  If it's a two story building, then it would have a pretty good amount of sq. footage/living space.  imo

Hello Monkeys.  This is my first post.
I agree that the GE image is the same as the picture.  I would like to see them along side of the arrest pictures.  The white ell at the back of the house looks like the tent area where the potted mj plants were.  The garage photo with the vehicles would tell us if the garage is the detached structure at the end of the driveway or under the lookout.  I estimate the main part of the house to be about 60 feet long.

Yes,  and the first floor of the house appears to be sunkin from the surrounding land, but it could be the vegetation is grown up around it.    I looked for the pot, but couldn't see it!  Picture is several years old and after harvest I guess.  :wink:

If he has a basement, he could have been growing the plants there.

I agree that it is unlikely that there is a tunnel under Lorenzos house.

BUT -do we know its all solid rock in that area?

Do we know there are no lava tubes or old mines in that area?

Do we know there are no caves or fissures or alien spaceports in that area?

Pot plants look almost exactly like okra plants growing.  Common mistake.  Also people have been known to alternate with okra.  Also to plant them on the property of others and only come back later for the harvest.

However, there is technology that can be used to find pot by it's infrared signature.  Helicopters used to fly over at tree top level looking for it in this area.

It's pretty common here.

I saw that last night, and I bet it is a water reclamation or processing plant.  Just a guess.  I hope it isn't a sewage outlet.   :cry:

I was once at a house that had over 50 pot plants growing in the attic.  The overwhelming smell alone would never allow one to mistake it for Okra.  The smell of marijuanna was so strong once the door leading to the stairs to the attic was opened, I cannot even describe how strong the smell was.

Add to that there was very large marijuanna buds with bright green and purple hair like things growing off it - dont see how anyone could mistake it for okra.

I believe most of the island is pretty well solid if you dig down but he does have a cigarette boat so maybe he drives it right up the tunnel and parks under his garage.  I know that's what I would do.

There was a photo last night of abandoned mine.  Looked like major blasting would have been required.  Gold Mill or something like that.  I think the drive in is a cover for the spaceport.  Were the other four arrested also involved or just Lorenzo?  Or were they just arrested so Lorenzo wouldn't be suspicious that they are on to him?

Each plant has its own infrared signature.  Yes, okra has same five leaf pattern as pot.  Hibiscus does also.  I have known of okra being uprooted by mistake and taken for testing.  But when they break out the helicopters, then they are looking for something major, large crop.

A very modern desalinization plant at Balashi can be visited, and it is a worthwhile experience for technically interested people! acording to google earth, the elevation of the ocean near Lorenzo's place is around 40feet and Lorenzo's pad is at elevation of about 60 feet.  About a 20 foot difference over a distance of .7 miles.  The hill behind Lorenzo's house rises to about 250 feet abour half a mile to the east.

I'm sure there is some amount of error in google earth but no clue how much.

Your are right!  I didn't remember that.  Actually, I have seen pictures of MJ being grown, but I have never actually seen a  live plant.  (call me naive, because I have never smoked it either!)   :)   I have been around it being smoked, and thought it smelled like someone stepped in something, so it never really appealed to me.  :?   I just remember letting most of  the Okra stay on the vine too long in AZ and it was tough as nails.  got about half an edible crop. I savored every mouthful of the early crop.

Rob, don't think it's a yacht club.  People drive to the club then get on their boats.  I don't see a parking lot.  Club house would be on the main land with a barrier beyond.  No slips visable and no boats.  I have never seen an emty yacht club.  The water also looks too shallow.

It is on the ocean edge near Lorenzo's house.
I did not think from looking at the picture of Lorenzo's house taken from the roadway that there were so many houses/buildings between his house and the edge of the island.  It looked from the first picture that his house was close to the ocean but must be on a rise or hill to give that impression.

OK...this is the first time my big ol' computer screen can't handle those margins....we have seen those big round objects before....someone called them holding tanks...but not sure what for...instead of a pier...how about a pipe...?

Looks like a pipeline of sorts to me...shallow enough for photo...but it could not interfere with water travel...boats, etc...(don't know really, jmo)

this case on Dana isn't sounding good... it sounds like another abusive situation.

They do look like holding tanks. They are very similar to both some big gasoline tanks we have here in town and also to water tanks at the water treatment facility.

For what it's worth my DH, that works at a water treatment plant, says that looks like either a desalinization plant or a sewage plant.  He said those round things look like what he called clarifiers.  He said they look like some kind of covered filtration system. Then again, he's not sure from the photos.  Rob resized them and now they are too small for details. LOL

San, just heard a blurb about 3 thousand lbs of explosives in a house in Staten Island, NY...hope it's not you.... :lol:  :lol:

Small town / township less than 18,000 people
Had to register to be able to assist in the search took a long time.
About 1,300 people showed up 1st day to help in the searh

TES was fantastic by request of family & organinzed the search effort.

A lot of Old Stip mines in area.  One group found something that looked like a grave.  Radioed in -- got vol. out of area to preserve the site.. It turned out to be the POT.  planting area

Community provide food / drink ect for all seachers

Desalinization plants usually do have large round tanks like those objects in the aerial pics. Part of the process involves allowing the seawater to stand in the sunlight for a while, if I recall correctly.

Does anyone remember a link to a website that was photos of Aruba.  I think I saw this once when we were looking at the Aru Bay videos and someone had a link to some guys trip to Aruba.  He had photos of everything there and I think even a pic of this desalinization plant.  I know it's been 2 years, but maybe someone will remember it.


DH said that long tunnel looking thing could be the pipeline that carries the filtered water onto the island.  He thinks there is probably a building that is on  land that we can't see for the trees.

I logged on while your show was in progress and quickly had to relinquish the computer to another family member...I always listen to your shows on podcast when this happens.  My regrets...sounds like a great one...no surprise.

It is difficult to see anything in those photos that would entice anyone to visit the island.  He sure got away from the tourist strip that gets all the advertising attention.

It's not those photos.  It was two girls that took these.  I remember something about a photo of the ocean and in it there is a building you can see in the distance and it says that the desalinization plant is located in the distance.   Then you get some photos of the refinery area.  I can't remember where I saw them.  It was pages and pages.  I think I looked at for several days.  I remember a lot of photos of the beaches, especially the one called baby beach.  I am not sure where it's located, but there was a lot things in it that was more on the south end of the island.

The reason I mention baby beach is because there were a lot of pics here of some young children and a woman.  I took it to be a wife of one of these men and their children.  I also remember they were in a car taking these photos.  Oh well.

I listened to Greta,because of the updates on Maddie,then heard Ann and BOR were going to go at it,I watched.You think I am random(I am),you should have heard them.I do not have a clue what was said except,that they disagreed on the dead immigration bill.She used words that I don't know,but I think she proposed that buss who hire illegals,should be sued if they don't pay minumum wages to illegals,which would stop it.My question is,what if if is cheaper to pay illegals minumum wage,instead of union scale,hmmmm.now good night

Okay asked DH again.  He says that some islands have desalinization plants that remove the salt and then send the water to the treatment plant to clean it.  Maybe that is what we are seeing here.  Two different things that accomplish the same goal...clean water.  I am confused now.
