Using any color to highlight, including RED, is okay....mods just use color, bolding and font sizing to make a point, when necessary.

If you look at the main page of the forum and look at who is logged in...klaasend's nic is in red, the other mods are a brighter blue.  When Red is on, his nic is red too iirc.

Margaret Wever I am sorry, but I don't consider Paul's passing to be international news and especially it is not to be used as a chance to attack a family in pain.
I believe it is a tragic event for a familiy. It is not fair and it certainly is inhuman for in the time of a wife and their children's grief to use this as a publicity stunt to attract viewers. I know that is how the media works, but it is shameless.
The death of a pillar, a fort is horrible and hard on any family, especially when it happens like what happened to Paul... for someone so full of life and fairly young to leave so unexpected, sudden and fast... the pain for family and friends must be unbearable.

Idon't believe that Kyle or anyone else is allowed to review the case documents, according to the policy of the prosecutors office. I thought the beauty of the Persistence is that they were to do a true grid seach mission which depends not on psychics or even tips from the authorities, and as such their work would be independent of the investigation. They were there simply to attempt to search a predefined area for Natalee's remains. So I am not sure why they have been lured into defending the work of the Aruban authorities or a discussion of the validity of the investigation as they are not knowledgeable as to the investigation, other than what they have been told by these Arubans. There are an awful lot of highly educated people who have been chumped by people of far less formal education. A well trained police force is not thwarted by a grieving mother and the media.

And Kyle, I by no means am being disrespectful, I think you are brilliant, sincerely. But I don't think your education or work experience has prepared you for a cover up by these types of people. And I think you may be severely underestimating the education, experience, and wisdom of the monkeys and other coverup believers. Don't let them make a fool of you. We need you.

... But sharing information with people who work for people who are directly orchestrating the cover up, Rudy, or the Dutch, is the most irresponsible investigating I can imagine. What kills this investigation is people having to come into it, wanting to apply basic investigatory protocols into place, and then having those channels sabotage the new evidence that the new players discover. Of course, as is happened everytime in this case, the new people eventually come to a point where the manipulation of the evidence is undeniable, but by then the fruits of their work are gone, and there is simply another member of the believers of the cover up group. What I pray that Kyle and the crew of the Persistence will determine, is that regardless of how hard working the man that they are working with appears to work, his work belongs to Rudy, and Rudy belongs to the local dutch.

We are not hysterical, ignorant, paranoid people. We have seen the cover up in action, in broad daylight, with impunity, and if you disregard our warnings, you will become the next chump in a series of chumps, no matter how sophisticated your equipment, the level of your educational achievement, or the extent of your job skills and work history.

That storm was terrible.  Our church helps supports a ministry in Yazoo County.  This morning images of the disaster in that area were emailed to one of our members and ... were shown on our overhead.  It unbelievable that the death toll was not higher.  Fortunately ... the neighbourhood where this ministry has its offices were unaffected.

They knew that those suspects were fabricating a story from day one.

Something that the family knew—and we have to keep reminding everyone—after 72 hours -- 72 hours—we knew definitively that these suspects were not telling the truth. We knew that my daughter had never been brought back to the Holiday Inn. Of course we were becoming frustrated. Who wouldn‘t, at this point? You know, we—and what was so unbelievable about this, is they knew this information and still chose to pursue the two security guards on June the 5th.

Natalee Holloway's parents to meet with Aruban prosecutor

New search for remains

The Holloways still have not given up the search for their daughter. In fact, a benefactor is donating an estimated $500,000 to help map the waters offshore.

On Thursday, Natalee's father watched Louis Schaeffer's crew load a boat equipped with the latest sonar equipment and a remote operated vehicle (ROV) to search the waters where Holloway's remains might be.

"I've got a feeling that if she's in the ocean, these guys are gonna find her," Dave Holloway said. "No doubt about it."

Schaeffer said he's retired, has the money, and was touched by the Holloways' tragedy and wanted to help.

"My only objective is to find Natalee, to bring her home for Dave and Beth and also to help identify the people that did this to her. This is a terrible thing, an injustice, and I want to help solve the case," said Schaeffer.

"We've known since [May 2005], the FBI told us Natalee's not with us anymore," Dave Holloway said.

The boat is expected to take about 10 days to get to Aruba. It'll take a few more days to set up a search.

The family says it has no new information about where to look. The Holloways just want to exhaust every area they can offshore with equipment that wasn't available to them two years ago.

Thanks to Schaefer, that's changed.

"We are just so thankful that he's got a big heart and willing to do that," Dave Holloway said

Kyle Kingman:  John is not a believer in the trap. He took ALE's word as gospel that it wasn't case related, yet never studied the videos or bothered to inquire further. He had plans on doing business with Aruba and in S. America and he didn't want to hurt any feelings by talks hinting at lack of complete trust and friendship. I did not feel the same and we had a major difference in opinion. He was the one who never pressed ALE to be completely open with us with the trap evidence. I would have forced them to. However, John was the one paying my invoices so I was forced to sit back and hope for the best.

Kyle Kingman: I get done in the survey room backing up the ROV dive and head to the back deck to talk to the Polis divers and see what they sampled and see the Polis boat way in the distance heading away fast. John doesn't seem concerned at all, but I am very dissapointed, concerned, and burning inside because I have a feeling that I/we will never know what they took from the trap. That evening I talked to John asking when we plan on recovering the trap. Previously this was part of the talks and plan, but this time he doesn't seem concerned about ever looking into the trap further. After John verbally BASHED me about the trap for what I said to Tim Miller about the sand body-form and that I believed her skirt was under the sand, John pretty much committed himself to the belief the trap wasn't what we were after. This shocked me because it was exactly what we were looking for- a fish trap lost at sea with human remains.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AFP) -- Dutch police have detained 20 people for smuggling cocaine in containers for in-flight meals and waste on planes flying between the Dutch Antilles and the Netherlands, police said on Thursday.

"Twenty suspects have been arrested over the last four months in the Netherlands and Bonaire," an island territory of the Netherlands Antilles, Schiphol airport spokesman Robert van Kapel told AFP.

The last two suspects were arrested on Tuesday.

Eleven of the 20 suspects worked for a Schiphol-based company catering for airlines.

Investigators found that the cocaine was hidden in food and waste containers on Netherlands-bound planes.

Police seized more than 50 kilogrammes (110 pounds) of cocaine, with a street value of two million euros (2.6 million dollars), and tens of thousands of euros in cash during 11 searches in the Netherlands.

Twelve of the suspects are Dutch nationals, aged 25 to 49, the spokesman said but did not give details.

Pages 187/189: After waiting months to find out what my statement actually says, Jug calls on my first day in California. He has finally been able to obtain the translation of my statement from prosecutor Janssen. The one the detective brought to me to sign late that night in the restaurant. And I trusted him, and signed every page.

“listen to this, Beth …” The words he reads echo in my head. I begin to sink, and could slide to the ground out of my chair. “Jug, they changed it. They changed my statement.”

I had carefully given intricate details about the encounter in the van der Sloot front yard the first night we got to the island, including names and physical descriptions. Now Paulus van der Sloot is described only as “the man with the glasses.”

Those are not my words.

Earlier we learned from the prosecutor that the statements from the two uniformed officers who were with us in the van der Sloot front yard that morning didn’t mention the sexual encounters described by Joran between Natalee and him. No mention of his sexual contact with her as she was falling asleep and walking up. No mention of his description of her underwear and genitalia. So the judge never heard about all that.

There‘s no way a police officer could stand there that morning, hear what Joran was saying, and fail to include these details in a statement. No way. In my opinion this information must have been deleted for the officers.

Page 182:  The day after our talk with Ms. Flanegan, I had to go to the police staton to turn in the statement that I had given to Dennis Jacobs.  He had given me a copy to go over with my attorney, Vinda.  But, after looking at it, I realized that it was only a page and a half long and had little to do with what we had actually discussed the most, the conversation that I had with Paulus van der Sloot at the prison ...  I had spent a long time with Jacobs, and much of my interview was not in the statement.

When I went back to turn it in and discuss it with him, I was told that Jacobs was in with Jan van der Stratten.

Page 183:  I commented to Jacobs about how short my statement was. He said that I could add anything I wanted to it. Also, I noticed that Eric Soemers's name was on it, but that detective was not even present during the interview. Now I wondered if Jacobs was making up everyone's statement and getting Eric to sign on to them. If that were the case, he could state anything he wanted, and it would look like an official statement made in front of a witness.

Saturday's service at Sugar Valley Missionary Baptist Church released long-held emotions for the family of Angela Faye Phillips, including her father, James Phillips, left, a young half brother, Jovan Phillips, brother Darryl Phillips and his wife, Sarah.

He's the brother who wouldn't stop calling.

For more than two decades, Darryl Phillips hounded the Houston Police Department and Harris County Medical Examiner's Office about his missing sister.

Phillips finally got some peace on Saturday when he helped lay to rest Angela Faye Phillips, nearly 24 years after she went missing.

The 20-year-old left her south Houston home one September morning in 1986 to catch the bus for a job interview. Loved ones never saw her again.

The loss left an unshakable impression on Darryl, then 18, who promised his now-deceased mother that he would never stop searching for the baby girl of the family.

“My mom died not knowing where her daughter was,” he said. “I wanted to make sure she was found and given a proper burial.”

The young woman known as “Angie Faye” was an athletic tomboy known for winning neighborhood foot races against both girls and boys. She was a prankster who loved to laugh.

Debra Hale Knox, the oldest of the Phillips siblings, said she last spoke to her sister around 1 p.m. the day of the interview.

“A lot of times when folks are missing and they are of age, it's always assumed that they've run away,” Knox said. “But she always called and let somebody know where she was. She had no reason to get up and disappear.”

Four siblings searched the next day, but turned up nothing. Three days after Angela vanished, authorities recovered the remains of a young black female in the 5800 block of Foster on Houston's south side.

At the time, authorities didn't connect the dots.

“It's been a tremendous strain not knowing. I think that back then, had we found out that was my sister, I think we'd have been too distraught. … Only in the last couple of years have I been able to talk about it without breaking down,” Knox said. “At that time, getting even with somebody certainly wasn't beneath us.”

Knox added that she believes her mother grieved until her death in 1989.

In the intervening decades, Angela's determined younger brother kept asking about missing persons, so-called unknowns and Jane Does.

Buried without a name

Darryl Phillips was among the earliest volunteers to join Texas Equusearch, and even traveled to Aruba in 2005 to help look for Natalee Holloway, the Alabama teen who vanished during a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean country.

On the flight back, he mentioned his missing sister to HPD detectives, who vowed to help. Since then, the reopened police investigation, coupled with initiative from forensic anthropologist Sharon Derrick in the medical examiner's office, connected Angela to the remains of an unidentified black female long-since buried without a name at a county cemetery.

In December, the medical examiner's office called Phillips about a possible match to relatives' DNA. Last month, Angela's remains were positively identified.

“It's the same body that they buried and it's the same body that they went back and got,” Darryl Phillips said. “That never changed, but I don't fault nobody but the criminals.”

Last week, the Phillips family gathered at the site where Angela's remains were found and Texas Equusearch erected a wooden memorial cross.

Saturday's heavy clouds seemed to release tears as the celebration of Angela's life began. Two Texas Equusearch trucks parked just outside the church vestibule. An iridescent cotton-candy-pink casket adorned with fresh flowers brought Angela back to the sanctuary of the Sugar Valley Missionary Baptist Church. After all this time, there remained unexpressed emotion unleashed by stirring gospel music and reflections about a young woman they never forgot.

‘There needs to be justice'

“I waited 23 years for this day,” Darryl Phillips told the packed pews. “No matter how long you wait, God answers prayer.”

The experience taught Darryl Phillips to appreciate people while they're living. He even awarded plaques during the service to those who helped bring his family closure, including Derrick.

The mystery is only half solved, the 41-year-old said. Angela's case has been reclassified from missing person to homicide.

“There's forgiveness, but there needs to be justice,” Phillips said. “My passion and dream is to bring some justice. I won't stop until it's done.”

HOUSTON - A simple wooden cross has been planted in a field where a young woman's body was dumped almost 24 years ago.

After all this time, that victim now has a name. It is emblazoned on the plaque attached to the cross: Angela Phillips.

The 20-year old woman disappeared in 1986. Her family spent years searching, sick with worry. One of her brothers never stopped searching.

His name is Darryl Phillips and he was the very first member of Texas EquuSearch.

Over the past decade, Phillips has helped other families locate their loved ones, living or dead.

"I never thought in all my life that I would be in this position," says Phillips. "I always thought that this happened to other family members."

Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller says Phillips always had his sister in the back of his mind during the dozens of searches they worked together.

"He was out there giving it his all," says Miller. "But he was always afraid that he was going to stumble across his sister's remains."

But all those years, Angela Phillips was buried in the Harris County Cemetery for the unwanted and unidentified.

The Phillips family only learned in March that the woman whose body was found in the southeast Houston field was, in fact, Angela Phillips.

So Darryl Phillips' search had finally ended.

"I would tell any family that has a loved one missing, never give up hope," says Phillips.

Angela Phillips' death is classified as a homicide and Houston police have launched an investigation.

Her body will be buried again, this time near her mother, who died before learning the truth.

Phillips' funeral is scheduled for Saturday.

I guess if there is one thing good that has come from Natalee's tragedy in Aruba - it's that it brought together Angela's brother and HPD who were finally able to bring Angela's disappearance to a close.

I did not feel the same and we had a major difference in opinion. He was the one who never pressed ALE to be completely open with us with the trap evidence. I would have forced them to. FERNLEY--The mother of an 18-year old Alabama teen who disappeared in the Caribbean in 2005 while on a high school graduation trip, will speak at Fernley high School on Friday (April 30) at noon.

Beth Holloway has made it her mission to travel throughout the country talking to teens about the dangers of traveling in foreign countries where the drinking age is 18, and the importance of safety while on such trips.

Natalee Holloway and her graduating classmates traveled to Aruba for their unofficial graduation trip. She was last seen with some of her classmates at a restaurant/nightclub Carlos'n Charlie's and left at about 1:30 a.m. with a Dutch honor students and two Surinamese men.

Both, fellow graduates and chaperons were to leave on May 30, 2005, but Natalee never showed up.

Although the search for Natalee brought widespread media coverage and hundreds of volunteers searched for her, Natalee has not been found. Police arrested the three men concerning Natalee's disappearance but all three were released due to lack of evidence.

Beth Holloway travels around the country sharing her daughter's story and her family's plight with high school students to prevent teen from making mistakes Natalee may have made.

FHS Leadership will host a free viewing of the Lifetime Network's The Natalie Holloway Story on Wednesday (April 28) at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons Area at the school.

The public is invited to attend the show.

LAUREL — Early Monday morning, conference planners began trying to secure a new date for the Women’s Life Conference, which was canceled Saturday due to the severe weather. The best date for Jones County Junior College was Saturday, May 8. All conference speakers were then called to see if they could speak that day.

“By Tuesday morning, all speakers were confirmed for the event,” said Linda Gavin, Associate Executive Director at South Central Regional Medical Center.

The postponement marked the first time in the 21 year history the conference had to be canceled. “It is quite a task to move an event of this magnitude. We attempted to call all women registered for the conference Friday morning after we made the decision to postpone the event. All participants were extremely understanding and appreciated our concern for their safety.” 

Beth Holloway, keynote speaker for the conference, said that she certainly understood the need to cancel the event Saturday and she looks forward to speaking to participants on Saturday, May 8th. “A letter was mailed today to all women registered for the conference notifying them of the new date,” Gavin said. Letters should arrive Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

“If you are registered for the Women’s Life Conference and you do not receive a letter this week, please call our office at 601.399.0501,” Gavin said. She said if the forecast calls for inclement weather on May 8th, she encourages participants to bring an umbrella. “Hopefully the severe weather is behind us,” she concluded.

There is a thread here at Scared Monkeys for Angela Phillips in our "Unsolved Crimes" Forum for those that would like to read, comment on or help update her case.  It is an ongoing investigation, and I hope her murderer/murderers can be found and there will be justice for Angela and her family.   It's not over yet.

The Thai state as we know it is facing an existential threat. If the violence caused by the red-shirt insurgency is not reversed immediately, the state will almost certainly collapse into civil war. The red shirts have tested the government and law enforcement agencies repeatedly and found that they can get away with practically anything.
Criminal elements have found their calling and are gravitating to the insurgency in droves - now the ranks of the red shirts are buoyed by thousands of violent and dangerous sociopaths who are ready and willing to kill with no fear of consequences. They are creating the trappings of a mafia-run state, while legal authorities barely try to stop them. This has gone beyond unacceptable. The worst thing is that once radicalised, organised and armed groups lose all fear of legal authority, it becomes almost impossible to restore order without resorting to overwhelming force.

This is exactly what Thaksin wanted. At this stage, he's entering the final phase of his zero-sum game of grabbing absolute power, or, if he can't, ripping the country to shreds in an orgy of violent revenge.


That means utterly destroying political opposition and every institution of this country, including the courts, free press, the police and the army. It means ripping apart the very threads of Thai society by radicalising his supporters to the point that millions now want Abhisit not just politically but physically dead - and enraging millions of his opponents into supporting the harshest possible measures necessary to restore some semblance of law and order.


This vile man, who feeds on the lowest of human instincts, thrives on violence, chaos and disorder; while the political hatchet men who sow political chaos on his behalf and the oligarchs who financially support his insurgency are morally bankrupt accomplices to an enormous crime against Thailand.


The only thing missing is a clear understanding on the part of the government and legal authorities on what they're up against. Thailand has never witnessed this type of political evil in recent history, and its leaders - as well as its population - are ill-equipped to deal with it. But deal with it, they must. The government, the army and the police (for a start) must wrap their heads around the fact that they're dealing with a homicidal maniac hell-bent on obtaining total power or wreaking total havoc - and make their decisions accordingly. Time has almost run out - if this insurgency is not put down soon, the Thai state as we know it will collapse.

Kyle- I emailed Beth your concerns and have suggested to her that she contact the appropriate people on the Persistence, including yourself, and attempt to reconcile as best they can the material the crew saw recovered from the cage versus what they received. I specifically mentioned the blue denim and the fact that would be the material of which the skirt was made, and reminded her that the press release said that the material did not match her blouse. I also pointed out that in the December 30 photo there appeared to be a skull ....

Kyle Kingman:  We got visual of the fish trap and that it was suspicious. Basically, the fish trap door was open and there appeared to be a skull and torso-shape in sand on the door inside the trap Reviewing the 29-Dec video I noticed the torso shape in sand had a 90 degree angle and that the sand was supported from falling through the bottom of the trap, which was slightly excavated by currents. I proportioned out the distance from the top of the head, to shoulder, to that 90 degree angle and it was a match to Natalee's photo of her standing -head, to shoulder, to the end of her denim skirt. I showed TM the proportional match and the possibility of a skirt under the sand

Kyle Kingman: In my opinion, the blue fabric is quite possibly Natalee's skirt. The divers found the denim where I suggested a week earlier (Dec 29th) to Tim Miller that there was likely Natalee's denim skirt under the sand. Also in my opinion, the deni-like fabric is a match in terms of color, quantity, and structure to Natalee's skirt. It's not a lot of denim folded in the bag, but then again her skirt was rather small.

Kyle Kingman:  07-Jan we dove on the trap with Aruban divers and our ROV recording the dive. They found the piece of blue tarp and blue denim-like fabric.

Kyle Kingman: In my opinion that last pic from Jan 7th should be absolutely intriguing and flip your mind from what you thought you knew. In case it isn't clear.. notice the blue denim-like fabric.

Kyle Kingman: In my opinion, the blue fabric is quite possibly Natalee's skirt. The divers found the denim where I suggested a week earlier (Dec 29th) to Tim Miller that there was likely Natalee's denim skirt under the sand. Kyle Kingman: We all know it wasn't a blouse, but I believe they were sent some piece of fabric other than the fabric found inside the trap.

Had to tell you Monkeys HI and I've been reading each day and wanting more news. Justice will come!

Please send prayers to Louisiana and all of the Gulf coast. (We've had 4 bad hurricanes in 5 yrs.) Both my sons came home the night of the explosion. 7 of their crew were still on the rig and all survived. My neighbor was injured but not seriously. It did scare the crap out of him. Now we are having very strong winds and high seas, so the oil will be reaching our coast tomorrow. The marsh is beautiful and so full of wildlife. The fishing is awesome and then the seafood. This is all beyond catastrophic! We all feel so powerless to help the wildlife.

Sorry for the O/T but had to inform all of you about this tragic situation. A north wind would be so helpful but is not in the forcast. Prayers are needed.

I KNOW that no one is gonna believe me - but I messed around with that pic.. and believe it or not - it's really a pile of rocks. I know I know... how could I say that - well, I did everything I could with it, and it is a pile of rocks.

There is a rock that looks like a skull - but it's not. Sorry... and there is a rock that seems to have what look like "fingers" - but that is really just depressions in the rock... The rock that looks like a skull - could be a dead brain coral - or just a rock. It does look like a skull, but it's really a dead brain coral or a rock.

I wish this was more than an underwater camera and rocks that look like something - meaning - our Girl - Natalee. Ohhh how I wish, but it's not Natalee or anyone else. It's just a pile of rocks captured from an angle that makes it look like something more than it is.

I didn't capture all the shots cause it will just lead to a huge discussion about what everyone sees and there will be sooooo many varying points of what is seen - it just wasn't worth it. I have been here long enough to know what those screen captures would lead to - however, if you want to see a pile of rocks in differing shades, and textures - I'm sure that you can click "save as" and then "monkey" as I did... and you will also see it's a pile of rocks... sooo sorry to say. And especially since the "finger" area looked promising. But it was just depressions in a rock.

Just for the record - I feel confidant in what I saw - and it's not Natalee - nor a body.. but I COULD see how that could be discerned.

Kyle Kingman:  I took the proportions of the body form from the head, to shoulder, to a 90 degree angle which I believed to be the hem line of Natalee's skirt. I then took those proportions and matched them to the photo of Natalee with what she was last seen wearing. The proportions matched within an inch from head, to shoulder, to skirt line. Based on this comparison and with what we believed we saw in the Dec 29th video, Tim Miller contacted the family and told them the 99.9% comment.

Jan 7th we sampled the contents and in my opinion we found the skirt under the sand along with the other items The blue fabric was found right where the skirt is pictured. If it isn't her, it will forever haunt me as a major cosmic WTF.

Georgia governor calls for travel boycott of Aruba

ATLANTA (AP) — Gov. Sonny Perdue encouraged Georgians on Thursday to boycott travel to Aruba to protest the way officials there have handled the disappearance of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.

Perdue joins Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley in calling for a boycott of the Dutch Caribbean island.
 
"This boycott is necessary because Aruban authorities have failed to conduct a serious investigation" of the teen's disappearance, Perdue said. "We have no quarrel with good citizens of Aruba, but the actions of their leaders cannot be taken lightly."

Riley sent letters to his fellow governors across the country this month asking for their support of the boycott.

In the letters, Riley blames the Aruban government for what he called "missteps, miscommunication and inconsistencies" plaguing the investigation into the 18-year-old's disappearance.

Holloway's family initially praised Aruban authorities for their work on the case, but they recently turned critical, alleging incompetence and conflicts of interest.

The boycott has failed to get support from the U.S. State Department.

Page 229/230:  As I read on in the journal, I discover that one of the most moving entries is her desription of a hero.  Natalee writes:

"A Hero is someone who puts others before himself.  He or she is very selfless and cares about the well-being of others.  Heroes also accept life's challenges and remain strong through tough times.  They also have a strong sense of determination and stick to goals and morals.  I believe that heroes uphold morals and try to encourage others to live life morally correct.  Heroes are not only just people called in times of physical danger, but individuals that can both emotionally and physically help people get through rough times.  A hero should always show respect for other people as well as respect for himself."

Instantly I realize that Natalee is poignantly describing the people who have reached out to help her family get through this "tough time."  It's almost as if she is thanking everyone herself by recognizing the importance of selfless people.  And I am amazed at her profound words here.  I sit and read the entire journal ...

Good to see ya too.  I have been reading in HaLeigh (big headache with this one) and Caylee's (I have to force myself on this one because of Cindy and George....  ::MonkeyMad:: )  threads.  I was reading today in our local paper about an eastern Kentucky guy who has been missing for 2 years (I think) with no resolution.  I mean't to check and see if we have anything on him.  It is a sad case for the parents.

Russell County woman is still seeking out answers, four years after her son mysteriously disappeared.

Christopher Gregory went to see some friends one night and was never heard from again.

In part two of Daniel Kemp's special report, "Unanswered Questions," we look into one of the most recent unsolved missing person cases in Russell County.

It's one police there say they hope they're close to solving.

"I never thought of anything like that happening in a small place. I was always afraid to live in a city because of stuff like that," said Rhonda Gregory, who lives in Russell County.

For a little more than four years, Rhonda Gregory has lived with countless rumors and little reason as to why her son suddenly vanished.

"It's so hard to go to bed at night thinking about it," she said. "And I can't help it, but I cry every night."

23-year-old Christopher Gregory was last seen in January of 2006 when he left the company of some friends at an apartment, just outside the city limits of Russell Springs.

"Everybody seemed like they liked him," she said. "They always got him to do stuff for them."

Since then, missing person fliers have gone without leads and many of Gregory's friends have been no help.

"After he got gone, none of those people hang out anymore," Gregory said. "They just all scattered."

"And within that group we feel that they have some knowledge, or at least we hope that they can help us more than they have," said Chief Joseph M. Irvin, of the Russell Springs Police Dept.

Chief Joseph Irvin says his department is still actively searching for Gregory.

He's also still waiting for someone to come forward with information on his disappearance.

"We've spoken to persons who we're most confident have what we need to go forward, but they don't wish to cooperate," he said.

Irvin says he has four persons of interest who know exactly what happened that January night, and half a dozen others who know something.

But yet the case remains unsolved.

"We've had some that, in interviews with police, have agreed to take a polygraph test in regards to what they were telling us concerning their knowledge," the chief said. "However, they have consulted attorneys and they've all advised us that they would not take the polygraph test."

Irvin says without their attorneys help, his hands are tied.

That's why he say he's turning to the public in hopes of solving this case.

"It is frustrating with the way the system is, but it's our system and I respect it," Irvin said. "It's just frustrating. I think everyone deserves to know what happened and to get some closure on it."

And closure is all the Gregory family wants.

"This is a small town, somebody knows something," said Kendra, Christopher Gregory's sister. "It's been four years and there's no since hiding it anymore."

Chief Irvin says early on in the investigation, human blood was even obtained from the shoes of two suspects.

Irvin says lab tests needed DNA samples from both Gregory's mother and father to possibly show it was the blood of Christopher, but Irvin says his father refuses to cooperate and has been on the run for years.

Last we heard Joran was still in Aruba.  There are some "hints" that Melody was getting "chummy" with Joran again.  Now Melody is making facebook friends with Jan Brennan (Medleyrelay) and other Joran friends.  Just odd because of some of the things that Melody has said about Joran in the past.  Seems as though Joran is quite the sweet talker.

I suspect that there may have been a witness who placed Paulus in the McDonald area at 11:00 PM ... a time he should have been home.  Think about it ... he claimed in his official statement that he left the Casino half-way through the Poker Tournament.  However ... security cameras appear to placed him much later at the Black Jack table conversing with Natalee.

So that is something that -- you know, we know that Paul Van Der Sloot did not pick him up at 11:00 PM on the 29th. We know now that that correct pick-up time was 4:00 AM on the 30th, and Paul Van Der Sloot stated that he picked them up.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) -- The US government expects to probe thousands more cases of wealthy individuals dodging taxes through offshore bank accounts, on top of the high profile case against UBS AG, a US tax attorney said on Monday.

"We expect over the next couple of years, in addition to the UBS cases, to have somewhere between 4,000 and 7,000 more cases coming to us with. These are from banks and governments cooperating," said Kevin Downing, a senior tax attorney of the US Department of Justice, in a lecture in Singapore.

Some private banking clients are choosing to take cash from Swiss accounts and carry it by hand back to the United States, to avoid an electronic trail, only to be caught by US law enforcement officers and penalised for tax evasion and illegal smuggling of money into the country, Downing said.

"When they go in and close their accounts, they are picking up brand new $100 bills ... that are coming in in $100,000 shrink-wrapped bundles. Guess what? We can trace that money," he said, adding such cash would be forfeited.

Singapore was one stop in a tour of Asian cities also including Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai by Downing and his US Justice Department team. The tour featured meetings with financial and tax regulatory bodies and bankers discussing cross-border tax prosecutions.

Help sought for 3 boys after fatal crash

Tom Norman was a happy father with three young boys, a wife of six years, and a good life in St. Thomas.

But three weeks ago, the family dynamics changed forever after Tom, 41, was killed and his wife, Christine, seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Aruba.

"It's so tragic. They've got these three boys and they were very happy," said Tom's sister, Kelley Norman.


Tom was born in Brampton, Ont. but, along with his family, spent most of his life in London. Christine and Tom moved to St. Thomas about a year ago with their three children Cole, 6, Trent, 4, and Reed, 2.

In April, the couple decided to go on vacation, their first in 10 years, and decided on a cruise of the Caribbean.

They set sail on April 12 and visited islands in the area, stopping at Aruba on April 16. They went to a nearby lot to rent an ATV, but before they could even leave the parking lot, a pickup truck struck their vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old-man, was arrested and police are investigating.

Kelley Norman said they never saw it coming.

"The pickup truck swerved into them. Christine said all she could remember seeing was the grill of the truck and she felt pain."

She believes Tom was killed instantly, while Christine suffered a shattered pelvis and leg injury. She was airlifted back to hospital in London, where she remains, having undergone extensive reconstructive surgery.

Kelley Norman expects she'll be in hospital for another four months and the children cared for by family members.

Kelley Norman said her brother was an "amazing" man and father.

"And everybody we've talked to said the same thing. He was the friendliest, most approachable man," she explained, adding more than 200 people gathered on the weekend to pay tribute to him.

Tom worked for Diamond Aircraft in London as a test pilot and flight-line supervisor and, in his spare time, was involved with hockey and sports, regularly took the boys camping and planned to teach them to ski and play hockey this winter.

To assist the boys, Kelley Norman said a trust fund has been set up at TD Canada Trust. She explained that, due to his occupation, Tom was only eligible for limited life and accident insurance. "We've set it up for the family, and for the boys, just to be able to survive and for their education, and for whatever we can do for them," Kelley Norman said, adding about $20,000 has been raised.

Having excelled as Sales Executive of the Month for January, February & March, Rubert Paesch was awarded the title of Sales Executive of the 1st Quarter in the Front Line category. His colleague, Alberto Groeneveldt, landed the same title, for the In-House category, having aced February 2010.

Family shattered by death

Tom Norman's identical twin brother won't see the young boys yet.

He looks so much like Tom, the boys might get confused if he walks through the doors and into their house.

Is daddy home? they might wonder.

The twin brother can't take that risk, because daddy's not coming home. Ever.

Daddy -- Tom Norman -- was killed by a drunk driver in Aruba on April 16.

As his closeknit family, horribly injured wife Christine, and his many London friends mourn his loss, they are doing all they can to protect his sons.

Cole, 6, understands what happened a bit. Trent, 4, a little less.

Reed, 2, saw a photograph of his dad and his dad's twin brother the other day and said. "Two daddies."

So the twin brother, Tim Norman, stays away.

"He is a little bit worried about seeing them the first time," sister Kelley Norman says. "He doesn't want to confuse them. We're just not sure."

Unsure as well of the boys' financial future, the family has just set up a trust fund for them.

Tom Norman was a test pilot at Diamond Aircraft and could get only minimal insurance because he was in a high-risk career, Kelley said.

His wife Christine was working part-time and going to Fanshawe College before the crash that took her husband's life and smashed her legs and pelvis.

"She is pretty shattered," Kelley said. "She is in emotional and physical pain."

Kelley is one of five Norman siblings with deep roots in London. She and her sisters, Tracy and Kristie, came first.

Then came the twin boys, Tom and Tim.

"They were fabulous. They were terrible," Kelley recalls with a laugh.

"Mom had a repeater plan at the hospital. They were there so often getting stitches or something."

The boys did everything with each other and to each other. They tried to put each other in the dryer and set it on spin. They proudly came into the family home on Lynngate Place one day and announced to their mother, "We finally broke every window in the garage."

An adventurous boy, Tom became a pilot as an adult.

Along the way, he met Christine, a waiter at the bar his father owned across the road from Fanshawe College, Carey's Pub.

His twin, Tim, met his wife, Stephanie, also a waiter at the pub.

Tom got a job at Diamond Aircraft, where as flightline supervisor he tested aircraft and did orientation flights for customers.

About two years ago, Tom surprised Christine with a cruise vacation.

But the couple learned she was pregnant with their third child, and delayed their plans.

This spring, they boarded the Caribbean Princess for their first vacation together.

Tom was like a little kid, Christine told the family after the accident.

"He was so exited,' Kelley said.

"He was roaming all over the ship, saying 'This is the life. This is the life.' They were just having a ball."

Four days into the cruise, the ship stopped in Aruba and the couple rented an ATV.

"They didn't even get out of the parking lot," Kelley said.

A pickup truck hit them head on. Tom was killed instantly and Christine was thrown over the front of the truck. Aruba news reports state the driver of the truck was drunk and there were drugs in the truck.

But the news reports also got Tom's name wrong, and the family is still waiting for the definitive word from Aruba police.

There is no mistaking, however, the impact of the crash.

"Christine is not doing well," Kelley said yesterday.

The boys are afraid to visit the hospital and see their mother so injured. She had to lie helpless while others arranged for her husband's body to come home.

"Christine is devastated because Tom had so many plans for the boys," Kelley said.

He had already taken them camping and started them skating. This weekend, the older two boys will start soccer. Tom had registered them before he left for the cruise.

"Anyone who ever knew Tom is devastated for these little boys," Kelley said.

"He will never walk back through the door and take them in his arms."

When you're desperate, even the bizarre can seem rational.

And so Friday, more than 17 years after a still-anonymous arsonist murdered their daughter, John and Janice Purcell will get on a stage in downtown Fort Wayne and listen as a traveling psychic tries to identify her killer – in front of people who have paid up to $40 each to watch the show.

Being intelligent people, the Purcells realize it all sounds more than a little strange. They don't care.

“If it helps solve this thing, I'll do anything. If I stop (looking for the killer), he's won,” said John Purcell, whose life was changed forever on Christmas Eve 1992 when a house fire in Harlan killed his 32-year-old daughter, Joesette, and her boyfriend, Jeff Koop.

If this were a TV show, the police would have cracked this case long ago. But they haven't, which is why the Purcells have resorted to unconventional methods – billboards, rewards, regular media appeals for information – in their long search for justice and peace of mind.

That's why, when Canada-based psychic sleuth Robbie Thomas called a few months ago, the couple was willing to listen and, ultimately, cooperate.

According to the Purcells, Thomas has already given them credible information about the fire that has not been publicly available – and even drew a sketch of the man who Thomas believes set the fire that closely resembles a prime suspect in the case.

The Purcells have tried psychics before, John said, and even paid a Florida woman $600 for her services – with nothing to show for it but more frustration. But they think Thomas is on the level and, besides, he's not charging them a dime, and the show will further publicize their search for Joesette's killer. So what have they got to lose?

“You have to have hope or you'll give up,” Janice Purcell said.

In spirit, the Purcells plan to bring bittersweet mementos of their daughter that they hope will evoke useful images in Thomas' mind, including Joesette's last photograph and a Merry Christmas wish she wrote on a message board just two hours before her death.

Janice Purcell doesn't expect miracles, maybe just a few snippets of information that police could piece together like a real-life jigsaw puzzle.

Thomas claims to have worked with police and families on other high-profile unsolved cases, including the 2005 disappearance of Alabama high school student Natalee Holloway in Aruba. Thomas' Fort Wayne show is also scheduled to include Marilyn Williams, whose daughter, Sheila Wimes, was murdered in 2001.

Not everyone is as receptive to Thomas' “help,” however. Several websites are devoted to debunking him and his alleged exploitation of grieving families – including one bluntly called “Stop Robbie Thomas.”

Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries isn't willing to go that far.

“Police are always looking for help, even when it's unconventional,” he said. “You never know what the brain is capable of.”

No, you don't. As the Purcells' long ordeal proves only too well, the mind is capable of incomprehensible cruelty and indifference. In my business, skepticism is a virtue, which is why I'm not convinced Thomas can help. But then, I'm also skeptical of claims that he can't. Nor would I begrudge Thomas an income from his “gift,” if his intentions and concern are genuine.

Because life isn't a TV show, the police haven't solved this case, even though Fries said they continue to pursue leads. That reality is, ironically, reflected in the TV shows about psychics who solve cases that cops can't.

And, on those shows, the psychic never fails.

Thomas, however, may very well fail – in which case the Purcells will go on with their seemingly endless quest for justice for their daughter, and rest for themselves.

“I don't like doing all this, but we have to solve this thing,” John said.

“Whoever did this is still out there, doing whatever he wants to do,” Janice added. “We need closure. You have to have hope, or you'll give up.”

And if that hope is dashed again Friday, well, it's happened before. It's a price they willingly, if not eagerly, pay.
