I've heard heart failure, embolism, fever last night......Police rep at conference had not seen the room where she collapsed, nor did he know where Howerd K Stern was.

I've seen her, Stern & Larry B.on IE, etc. for weeks.  I had thought that she seemed to slur when speaking, but then, the little clips didn't give much to go on.

I'm leaning toward overdose....we'll hear, I'm sure.  The weight loss was discussed here....

I hope Anna is finally at peace Sad

I was at the Hard Rock yesterday during the day -- until about 4. Not a peep or buzz about her being there.

You all seem to be getting the news same time as we are here in S to make sure it's posted here.

Just got this from the Sun Sentinel

Anna Nicole Smith collapses at Hard Rock in Hollywood, dies

Associated Press & sun-sentinel.com
Posted February 8 2007, 4:45 PM EST

HOLLYWOOD -- Anna Nicole Smith, the voluptuous former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.

Smith, 39, was found unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino near Hollywood Thursday afternoon, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died.

At a televised press conference outside Memorial Regional Hospital, Seminole Tribe Police Chief Charlie Tiger said officers were notified that Smith had died at the hospital at 2:49 p.m. Thursday.

Tiger also said a private female nurse first called the hotel for help at 1:39 p.m. Aid arrived within two minutes, he said. At 1:45 p.m., Tiger said, a bodyguard initiated CPR in the star's sixth-floor hotel room. She was rushed to the hospital shortly after 2 p.m.

Tiger said the cause of death would be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Broward Medical Examiner's Office.

Edwina Johnson, chief investigator of the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, said the autopsy will be done on Friday.

The police chief said Smith was a regular patron at the Hard Rock and had checked in on Monday. He said her hsuband checked in with her.

``She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow,'' Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel, confirmed.

Officials said her baby was not with her. In addition to her husband, the Smith entourage included four others, including a nurse, said hotel president Michael Bloom.

Bloom said the hotel received a call from her nurse just after 1:30 p.m. requesting assistance.

``She was obviously in distress,'' Bloom said of the ex-Playboy Playmate

Five minutes later hotel security and emergency medical technicians responded to her room and contacted local fire and rescue teams.

Smith was taken to Memorial Regional shortly after 2:10 p.m.

Smith became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. Readers were fascinated by her bombshell good looks, her marriage to an elderly billionaire and subsequent court fight over his estate, her weight fluctuations, and last year, the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith.

First, she signed to a contract with Guess jeans, appearing in TV commercials, billboards and magazine ads. In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the head of oil-based Koch Industries, which is part of a family fortune worth at least $400 million. He died in 1995 at age 90, setting off a feud with her former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over whether she had a right to his estate.

A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million. That was later overturned. But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson.

The stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.

More recently, Smith's ballooning figure and up-and-down weight became a subject of public fascination. But she lost a reported 69 pounds and became a spokeswoman for TrimSpa, a weight-loss supplement.

She starred in her own reality TV series, ``The Anna Nicole Show,'' in 2002-04 and appeared in movies. She had a bit part in ``The Hudsucker Proxy'' in 1994.

After news came of Smith's death, G. Eric Brunstad Jr., the lawyer who represented Marshall, said in a statement:

``We're very shocked by the news and extend the deepest condolences to her family.''

Smith's son, Daniel Smith, died Sept. 10 in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.

An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he had methadone and two antidepressants in his system when he died. Low levels of the three drugs interacted to cause an accidental death, Wecht said. Last month, a Bahamas magistrate scheduled a formal inquiry into the death for March 27.

Meanwhile, the paternity of her now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute. The birth certificate lists Dannielynn's father as attorney Howard K. Stern, Smith's most recent companion. Smith's ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead was waging a legal challenge, saying he was the father.

Debra Opri, the attorney who filed his paternity suit, said Birkhead ``is devastated. He is inconsolable, and we are taking steps now to protect the DNA testing of the child. The child is our number one priority.''

She was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children of Donald Eugene and Virgie Hart Hogan. She married Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.

``From my professional exposure to Anna Nicole, I can say she was always personable, down to earth and driven. All in all, a joy to have as a client,'' said Wayne Munroe, her Bahamian lawyer who has overseen the aftermath of her son's mysterious death in Nassau.

That poor little baby. May God look out for her, and protect her.

Why was there a private nurse with AN, and why was the baby not with her mother? It seems strange to me that she ws traveling with a private nurse, unless AN had a medical problem that was not publicized.
And it seems strange that she'd leave her baby behind. The last 6 months of AN's life was just very bizarre, and now her death is surrounded by strangeness as well.

I hope that authorities move to establish the baby's paternity quickly, and I also hope that there is no way that Stern can gain custody of the baby, in the mean time, even briefly.  Hopefully the people Dani Lynn is staying with in the Bahamas will do the right thing.

I'm thinking that she might have left the baby with her friend in the Bahamas to keep her out of the states, where she might be ordered to take a DNA test...

What a blow! Poor AN!! She sure has had an awful time of it lately...everything was really starting to come down  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

I hope the baby still will have to get the DNA test and I do have a feeling that Howard is not the father....

Anna.
Anna came from nothing and made something of herself, but the last few years when she gave interviews she always seemed loopy and high.

And I am sure that the company she kept looked the other way when she was doing her drugs.

Two generations now dead to drugs.

Even if the final cause of her death is not drug related, they played a part in  her demise.

I hope the baby breaks the tradition of her brother and mom, and beats the odds and has a beautiful and happy life.

What else can you wish for now.

Frijole,

He is not her husband.  I believe they had some commitment ceremony but they are not married.

My question is now who will handle the funeral arrangements.  I wonder if her mother will step in.

Yeah San, I knew that .... should have put quotes around husband for emphasis cuz he's just a piece of chit leech.

I think she was growing tired of covering the lie.... that Howard had nothing to do with her son's death.  Either she couldn't deal with the guilt and it was suicide or Howard had to shut her up because she was going to break.

I agree, the last few times I saw her on TV she sounded loopy.  Well she can be with her son now.  I hope that Larry guy is the dad and he loves the little girl and treats her very well....

Bahama Law: Howard Is Baby's Legal Guardian
Posted Feb 8th 2007 6:26PM by TMZ Staff

With the sudden death of Anna Nicole Smith, Howard K. Stern has already assumed the title of "legal guardian" of Anna Nicole Smith's 5-month-old daughter Danielynn, according to the laws of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

The law states, "On the death of the mother of a child, the father, if surviving, shall, subject to the provision of this Act, be guardian of the child, either alone or jointly with any guardian appointed by the mother. "

Smith named Stern as the father on Danielynn's Bahamian birth certificate. Stern, who appeared on "Larry King Live" and proclaimed that he was the father, is in a war of words with Larry Birkhead, Anna Nicole's former boyfriend who claims he's the daddy. Birkhead has filed legal papers in Los Angeles, asking a judge to order a paternity test.

I've been listening to the news all day and am processing thoughts and questions which I'll address in another post. It is essential that the paternity of the baby is established. The baby is in the Bahamas to escape the paternity test. Whoever the father is, and at this point I don't think it is Howard, he will have some access to the baby's fortune. There are some good comments regarding this on the front page such as (not direct quotes) ... maybe Howard was thinking if he knocked off Daniel, and then knocked off Anna, he would have sole rights to the baby's fortune, thus for him a paternity test would ruin his plans. I think we could consider Larry Birkhead to be in danger now.

My gut level feeling is that Anna died of an overdose. We may never know if it was accidental or not.

The most curious thing I find about this case is how Anna was able to drink and take drugs and always look gorgeous. It never seemed to show on her face. When I took tranquilizers at 29, my face showed it ... puffy, swollen, too skinny, etc. How do all these young starlets in Hollywood party so hard and look good afterwards?

From what I saw in a previous interview with her mother, the mother doesn't sound very nice.

I agree no matter what she always looked stunning.

I would feel more comfortable if that baby was in someone else's care then Sterns.

As for the fortune.....that is still in litigation I believe.

I don't think Anna ever got to see much of that money...

In any event.....

Most important thing is her daughter....

God I hope she does not end up with Howard.

Oh no!  Jacqueline, your post has startled me. "Smith named Stern as the father on Danielynn's Bahamian birth certificate. "  Howard is now the baby's legal guardian?

In Los Angeles, at Cedars Sinai hospital, a woman giving birth who is not married, cannot just put some man's name on the birth certificate as the baby's father. Anyone could say the father is George Clooney or Clint Eastwood, so therefore if such person is really the father, they must submit a paternity statement before their name can be on the birth certificate.

Too bad the Bahamas doesn't have the same policy.

I know Louise it startled me too....

I can't stand the thought of that precious baby being in his care.

Paternity test needs to be done.  Soon.

Custody dispute and conspiracy theories
Friday Feb 9 11:00 AEDT
By ninemsn staff

Anna Nicole Smith's sudden death has fuelled a bitter custody dispute between two men both claiming to be the father of her last surviving child, five-month-old daughter Danielynn.

Smith's lawyer-turned-partner Howard K. Stern, who she exchanged vows with in an informal ceremony in September last year, has already assumed the title of "legal guardian" of Danielynn, according to the laws of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

Smith named Stern as the father on the Bahamian birth certificate but celebrity photographer Larry Birkhead says he is the father.

Stern was present when Smith's son Daniel died of a suspected methadone overdose in the hospital room where his mother was nursing his newborn sister.

Lawyer Ron Rale, who had been representing Smith in her paternity battle with Birkhead, said there would be a court hearing tomorrow to discuss the matter of DNA testing, TMZ reported.

Birkhead has reportedly asked that a DNA swab be taken from Smith's corpse, a request a Smith lawyer has labelled "the lowest form of behaviour I've ever heard of."

Birkhead's lawyer said she feared for Danielynn's safety and demanded the baby be removed from Stern's custody immediately.

The comments echoed those made by Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, in an interview with CNN in October last year.

Arthur suggested Stern may have had a hand in the death of Smith's son Daniel and advised her daughter: "Be very careful about who you hang around with, because you may be next."

Arthur said Stern was trying to get his hands on the millions her daughter looked set to inherit from her ex-husband, oil tycoon J Howard Marshall.

She added, "If Howard Stern marries her and she ends up dead, then who does the money go to?

"I just know that Danny didn't kill himself. He did not overdose himself."

In reponse to the accusation, Stern said: "Absolutely nothing criminal occurred".

About 20 years ago, I first saw Anna in magazine ads for Guess jeans. I did a double take and thought she was Marilyn Monroe reincarnated. Anna sold the product well. My daughter and I went to Nordstrom and bought Guess jeans and Guess pink and white stripped oversize oxford shirts. In fact, I still have one in the trunk of my car with my beach gear in case it gets a little chilly. Anna made a huge amount of money for Guess.

J,

Yes, she was the first Guess girl. And she was very slender then.  It just freaked me out that she looked like Marilyn.
