Tips still wanted,who killed Nevaeh?
June 24, 12:17 PM

When most of us think of little girls we imagine ponytails, baby dolls and barrettes. One gruesome scene left in our minds and on our hearts is that of a little girl someone left along the River Raisin near Monroe, Michigan as a mother and community searched for her.

Nevaeh Amyah Buchanan, 5-year-old girl in love with motorcycles was found on the river bank covered in concrete.
The community was devastated when two fishermen found the girl's body, covered with the concrete in a hole dug along the River Raisin in Raisinville Township. Nevaeh name spelled backward is heaven.

Officials still are waiting to learn what killed the girl found buried and covered in concrete in a shallow riverside grave. A preliminary autopsy showed no signs of outward trauma, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said only that his department is looking for a “disturbed” person who murdered an innocent child.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office continues to request tips from anyone who has recently fished along Dixon Road in Raisinville Township, where two men fishing found the missing girl's body June 4.

Anyone with information is asked to call 734-243-7070.

Sheriff: Nevaeh case will be solved
by Ray Kisonas , last modified June 25. 2009 11:16AM

Three weeks ago, the body of 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan was found in a shallow grave along the River Raisin and investigators still have not released how she died, what type of evidence has been collected and whether they have any solid suspects.
But Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said he is confident the case will be solved.
"We’ll resolve it," he said.
Information continues to be held tight by investigators, and the FBI continues to be involved with the investigation, Sheriff Crutchfield said. He said a cause of death either is not being released or has not been determined because test results still are not completed even though the Michigan State Police crime lab has made the case a priority.
Sheriff Crutchfield said nothing has changed regarding new information being released to media.
"We’re waiting for official results from the medical examiner’s office," he said. "We don’t have a (cause of death) yet."
Some of the evidence collected had to be sent to another lab for unspecified reasons. Sheriff Crutchfield added that investigators continue to follow up on tips, which number around 1,200. Calls offering tips have slowed in recent days, he added.
Family members, including Nevaeh’s mother and grandmother, also have not heard any new information regarding the investigation or cause of death.
Two men who are registered sex offenders and were linked to the case as persons of interest remain in prison. George Kennedy and Roy L. Smith are being housed at Jackson prison for parole violations.
Nevaeh disappeared May 24 from her Charlotte Arms apartment complex on N. Macomb St., and massive searches involving the community followed.
Fishermen found her body on June 4 in a grave covered by concrete.

Mine too. It sounds like they have an idea, they are just waiting for lab results to confirm it.

My friend Amy who was one of the organizers from the group search said she got a message from another Monroe searcher saying that "2 men in a maroon/Burgundy work van tried grabbing two young children near 8th and Bacon."

That and the story from the other day, scares me. Either there is someone out there snatching children that might have also had something to do with Nevaeh's murder OR there are other sickos on the loose in Monroe.

That's certainly troubling, if true, on a number of levels, Pink Angel. Monroe really needs to be and stay on high alert. Parents and caretakers should not be leaving children alone-period. Even if they're in groups. Unlike Nevaeh, these kids have been given a second chance. I really hope the parents hear and see the message. The price is just too high not to.

The search for Nevaeh's killer continuesFriday, June 26, 2009

More than one month after she went missing and three weeks since the discovery of her body many questions remain about the death of Nevaeh Buchannan. We are still waiting for autopsy results, still waiting to hear the cause of death and waiting for investigators to name a suspect. The same goes for Nevaeh's family.
More than one month has gone by since relatives last saw Nevaeh Buchannan alive.
The 5-year-old disappeared from her home at Charlotte Arms Apartments in Monroe. Nearly two weeks later two fisherman found the girl's body along a bank of the River Raisin. It was in a shallow grave covered in cement.

Three weeks after that grim discovery there are still no autopsy results, no cause of death and no suspects listed. Police had arrested registered sex offenders George Kennedy and Roy Smith on parole violations shortly after Neveah went missing. Both are still in prison and considered persons of interest, but they are not officially suspects. Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield tells 13abc he's confident investigators will crack the case saying, "We're hopeful it will be resolved. It might take longer than we want. But, personally, I believe it will be resolved."
Family members are also confident those working the more than 1,300 leads are doing everything they can. The sheriff himself said, "It is the bulk of my time. I've made it that way. It will be that way until it is resolved."
Nevaeh's cousin Shaun Lawson says, "We still want people to remember. And we don't want people to forget about their kids even for a few seconds. A few minutes, that's all it takes. We don't need this to happen to any other kid."
Nevaeh's family wants to drive that point home for all they know, her killer is still out there.

They are waiting for test results. It takes time. It is frustrating for LE too, I am sure. I think they know something but are waiting for forensics to confirm it.

That's JMO though. I have faith in LE.

I agree pink angel.  But I also think LE haven't/won't release some details they may already have or are going to have after the testing is finished for fear of jeopardizing the investigation.

From the above article on JB:  "They don't talk to me about it," she said. "But at this point, they can't say anything to me. They did tell me there would be a time and place when they can sit down and explain everything, but that now they can't say anything."

I find this statement quite encouraging. I'm sure a lot of progress is being made.  I still think it's a matter of closing a few loose ends.

I sure hope so Jess. You would think they would have test results back from any forensics back. Of course, they could have had to send them to another agency for future testing. You never know.

What did upset me about this article today, was like what was said above...Jennifer doesn't talk about her daughter, how much she misses her, how much she loves her and every day without her has been pure hell. How not knowing what kind of monster could have done this to her little baby, keeps her awake at night...it's just all about Jennifer and how this is affecting her and she wants to clear her name.  If my baby had just been buried a week ago, the last thing in my mind or on my mouth wouldn't be "gee, I wish people would stop spreading lies about me, those rumors just ain't true."

jmo ::shrugs::

I made another video if anyone wants to see it. A lot of the Monroe Talkers e-mailed me their pictures to be used in the video along with others I collected around the web.

Thank you so much Pink for that wonderful trubute to Nevaeh. Sorry I havent posted in a couple days but I am getting ready to leave for Kansas City Mo for a Skills USA competition for Crime Scene Investigation for our school. Our team of 3 CSIs won 1st place in the State of Michigan and now we have to travel to Kansas City to compete in the National Compitition for Michigan. I think we are going against 40 other schools in the post secondary division which is the college level. This is it! all I worked for comes down to this next week to see what skills I have to catch these monsters from getting to our kids and finding the ones that do and bring them to justice.
