Gil Cabot
Gil was Boy Wonder, starting at WALT as a 15 year old weekend disc jockey, while attending Hillsborough High School. Every one knew Gil, he was a very creative guy we knew would go some where and make it big.

Gil started a couple of record labels, Sundi Records and Paris Tower. He would record local groups at H&H Productions in Tampa and garner airplay on the local stations.

Gil, blessed with a talented ear, felt something special about a song in 1969, a group from East Bay High School known as “Mercy” had recorded a song for him a year earlier and then broke up. The group was spearheaded by Jack Sigler, Debbie Lewis and Carlos Sayaz.

Gil released the song “Love Can Make You Happy” 3 times, and on the final release, it started to climb the charts. The band had broken up because Sigler had joined the Navy. Here he was, with a hit record and no group. He got 3 professional background singers who had been studio vocalist on the song, to tour the country promoting the hit, as the group “Mercy”. Cabot rounded up local group “Mighty Manfred & The Wonder Dogs” to back them musically.

The group appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, The Ed Sullivan Show as well as other hit shows of the day.

Meanwhile the original Mercy was signed by Warner Brothers at the urging of producer Steve Alaimo of Miami. They went into the studio, re-recorded “Love Can Make You Happy” and went on the road themselves. Their version never measured up to the original produced by Cabot, it just could not be recreated. The group never had another hit.

Gil is now in Hollywood, California -- based at Warner – Hollywood Studios (323-549-9300). He comes home to Tampa frequently, he still has family here.

He has been linked with major stars over the years. Cabot has always had the knack of turning lemons into lemonade, even when the tragedy of being sent to prison in 80s. He was held responsible for something that an employee had done, but he successfully produced a multi award wining documentary called “Inn-mates” about prison life, and was successful in clearing his name of that false charge. From that experience he also launched the damage control public relations company, “ArrestedMedia”, which consults to high profile people, like Martha Stewart, Michael Jackson, and others who have to manage negative news coverage.

During Cabot’s radio days when some announcers refused to interview professional wrestlers, Gil gladly interviewed them and was brought into their very special world, where even today Cabot is responsible for packaging major professional wrestling programming around the world.

No bigger success story out of Hillsborough High.

Former FBI Agent Reveals True Identity Of "Todd Black"
Monday, February 2, 2009 – updated: 5:07 pm EST February 2, 2009

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Eyewitness News may have solved the mystery surrounding the phantom PR man working for Casey Anthony's attorney. He calls himself "Todd Black," but that's not his real name.

A former FBI revealed to Eyewitness News that Todd Black is really Gil Cabot, a man who's spent time in prison for trying to extort money from a Los Angeles news anchor. The so-called Todd Black has been involved in the Casey Anthony case almost since the beginning.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PR FIRM RESPONDS: Read Press Corps Statement
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The man who goes by the name Todd Black at Press Corps Media became defense attorney Jose Baez's public relations firm back in September. Eyewitness News went to Baez's office Monday and asked whether he knew from the beginning that Todd Black is really convicted felon Gil Cabot, but he would not answer any questions.

Baez hooked up with the phantom public relations man who goes by the name of Todd Black two months after Casey Anthony's first arrest, but the man never shows his face in public. One of Baez's partners, Jose Garcia, told Eyewitness News he's never seen Todd Black.

The public hear from Todd Black in October when he made a statement over the phone to a CNN show host.

"This is a very serious case, involving not just the loss of the life of this little girl, but the loss of whatever is going to happen with Casey Anthony," Todd Black said (hear it all).

"But I know that, based on the recording that I listened to, Todd Black is not Todd Black. Todd Black is Gil Cabot," former FBI agent Jack Trimarco told WFTV reporter Kathi Belich during a phone interview on Monday.

Trimarco, a former FBI lie detector specialist, investigated Cabot in the 1980s for trying to extort money from Entertainment Tonight talent Jann Carl, who was then a Los Angeles TV news anchor.

"We recorded many, many phone conversations between Gil Cabot and Jann Carl, although Gil was always using different names and different aliases in his scheme. He eventually got arrested and was found guilty," Trimarco said.

Trimarco said someone connected to the Jann Carl case recently alerted him that Cabot, aka Todd Black, was involved in the Caylee Anthony case. When he listened to a recording of Todd Black's voice, the voice wasn't the only thing he recognized.

"But I do believe that he had used the alias Todd Black back in the 1980s," Trimarco said.

Late Monday afternoon, Press Corps Media responded to Eyewitness News' question in an emailed statement (read full statement).

"It simply DOES NOT MATTER if our company was founded by a gentleman who spent time in prison over twenty-five years ago, especially since that distinction is a key selling point that brings credibility to our services assisting celebrities, politicians and others charged with a crime. It simply DOES NOT MATTER that when he sold the company in 1996 he remained a consultant, just like it simply DOES NOT MATTER that security names are assigned to our company staff," Todd Black wrote in the release.

That still does not answer the question, is he really Gil Cabot?

Mr. FBI agent should have asked Blink who knew this all the way back in OCTOBER! LOL!

Gil Cabot is an interesting character and that is what I have spent some time on today.

If someone would be so kind as to tell me how to post a photo on here I would appreciate it.

Hiya monkeys. I wouldn't barge in on Caylee's thread if it weren't so slow, but for anyone still interested in the JBR case, I've posted a few links about a (minor?) new development on the Unsolved Crimes thread.  A news conference should be starting any minute.

adding the link
http://scaredmonkeys.net/index.php?topic=236.msg655590;boardseen#new

Thanks, Nut.  I'll try to remember to include a link in the future.

Id love to find the LKL CNN episode that this fool was called out on involving a case where he was trying to take a cut from a woman victim's future monies.  Looks like Lenny got in touch with NS and others to find this ex-FBI guy who just exposed him. The actress Ann Jillian was even a victim of this guy!

JVM just previewed what she will be talking about on issues today.  She had scathing words for Baez bringing in the white rubber band bracelet & they are going to discuss why the remains have not been released by Baez and why the Anthony family is now telling the church NO to the public memorial service due to the remains NOT being released yet.    As I have stated repetitively there is NO reason for the remains to be held up - NONE, there is nothing else that can be done with them & samples of what was able to be tested were already reserved.  Additionally, there is NO reason why the family cannot go forward with a public memorial to honor Caylee's memory NONE.  If we find out that this beautiful babygirl was cremated already & this is nothing but a pissing match more concerned about defending Casey there should be an outrage like no other!   Did Baez really make that remark when asked to comment about that doctor, seriously?  Because if he did he's as much a narcissist as his client & I hope they keep giving him a pass to continue defending his murdering slore client because she will surely be convicted, justifably so.

Im just beyond disgusted with all these f'd up characters in this case!!

Capp,

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Now Mike Brooks is ripping Baez for trying to put the bracelet thru - too funny!

Shame on you Jose, you should know better   OMG lol    "his PR firm is not doing him justice here" Michelle ripping on Casey's outfit and her demeanor of her smiling and laughing constantly - its despicable, but let her continue, shes putting nails in her own coffin

I totally agree. Let Casey show her true colors and Baez/Bozo as well. When Bozo smirks back at her little pen game, it just shows how unprofessional he is. I don't think either one can help/restrain themselves and to me I feel great about it because it just continues to reinforce to the public what kind of people they are.

I have also been checking out Tedd Webb today on that website and his myspace.
Go to myspace and put in Tedd Webb (first one) then go to pictures and click....Street Corner Serenade. On first page go to bottom picture on the left...guy on drums. Who does it remind you of? Some of those shots of the guys with instruments have the head photoshopped because they are a bad job. He is out of Tampa.
That is the picture I was going to post.

The FL corp website has 2 companies with Gilbert Cabot listed on them and his mom I assume, Joyce. They are Watsup Productions and Sunrintine Corp which use to be Sundi Records but was changed when he was sued.
Both companies are active.

So IIRC, the Florida Bar association has investigated this and does not find a conflict of interest?  This stuff is unbelievable.  Everyone riding on the coat tails of this poor Innocent little girls death.  I see the latest press release from Jose Baez' boss is right on par with the prior ones.  http://www.wftv.com/news/18623734/detail.html
