Status Hearing for Casey Anthony Murder Trial

It was a great summary!

It was nice to see questions and answers with no himming and hawing, oh, and bloviating.

It was sure a different air.  Judge Perry with a smiling face got across to Mason that he had Mason's number and he was calling him on it.

I think I will take a pass on the 15th and read at that blog and Mr. Shaeffer's statements before I listen to the nonsense that may go on in court.

I sure hope the defense is giving up on the stupid stuff and also terrorizing witnesses and searchers.  I understand it is important to get information, but it is not okay in my eyes to change history.

The judge in the Casey Anthony case continues to push forward to trial, and the coming months will be crucial for the case. 

Judge Belvin Perry Jr. will soon be making decisions on what evidence is allowed in court.

"What occurs before trial is perhaps even more significant than what happens in trial," said Ch 9 Eyewitness News legal analyst Bill Sheaffer.  He says Judge Perry's rulings will shape the cases of the defense and prosecution.

"You set the tone of the trial before the trial ever begins," he said.

Will air samples from Casey trunk be allowed in court?

Will statements made by the former wives of the meter reader who found Caylee's remains ever be heard by jurors? 

And will the state be allowed to play the 911 calls?

The judge will hear arguments on the calls July 15th - the two year anniversary of the day they were made.

And to ISpy, I do agree that there is valuable forensic evidence to be gleaned from the trash bags, including the striations and other details of their production.  This is something I've thought about since I first heard she was found in garbage bags.  It brought to mind the Melanie McGuire case, where this kind of evidence really did help to convict Melanie of the murder of her husband.

On the subject of the duct tape on Caylee's skull, discussed by Deenie: 

I believe Jan Garavaglia specified "scalp hair" for clarity's sake, simply to differentiate from the small peach-fuzz hairs on our faces and elsewhere.  (ICBW.)  My own take on reading the report is that it appears that 3 or 4 long (approx. 9") strips of duct tape were wrapped around the front of Caylee's face; definitely covering her mouth, most likely her nose as well, and possibly even originally over her eyes too, although there was no tape covering the eye sockets of her skull by the time her remains were discovered.  The ends of each strip seem to have been anchored on each side of her head, past her ears, and were stuck fast to the hair at the sides of her head.

At the time her remains were found, there was NO soft tissue left at all, not even any which might have otherwise been preserved underneath the duct tape or remaining adhered to it.  No soft tissue at all.

All that remained was Caylee's skeletonized skull and the "hair mass" attached by duct tape. In other words, all the skin was totally gone, but the duct tape across the front of her skull still adhered tightly to her hair, managing to continue to hold the mandible in place, which normally would have separated from the skull early on and would have otherwise been found apart from her skull.

So, I don't believe that the duct tape went over the top of her head, nor that it was wound around her entire head mummy style, but of course I could be wrong about that.

Hi Monkeys...just wanted to comment on the "Cindy 911 tape."  I believe they will be allowed because it was 'in the moment' that she called, etc.  911 tapes are used all the time in hearings, so I'm confident they will be allowed.  Secon of all, in two different intereviews Cindy has admitted to being a decomp nurse and she knows what decomp smells like.  One interview she says that is when they were coming out of court..I think her and George were in an elavator or up against a wall.  And the second time she says this is in front of the courthouse with a tv reporter.  I think in that one she is wearing a black top.  In order for the prosecution to prove that Cindy knew what decomp smelled like, I would love for them to show those two interview of her admitting she is a decomp nurse.  And George admitting he knows what decomp smells like..well, he tells the police office what the smell was and why he knew what the smell was so it just seems to me, these two 'parents' have already screwed themselves over with their lies.  I mean, it's all on tape for Pete's sake.
