DEVELOPING STORY: Search for missing child

IMMOKALEE - Dozens of law enforcement officers from agencies around Southwest Florida joined more than 100 CCSO deputies in the search for Adji Desir the six-year-old Immokalee boy that has been missing since Saturday evening.

Deputies on horseback, on ATVs, in helicopters, with K-9, as well as in patrol cars, and on foot were searching the area in and around Farm Workers Village for a second day on Sunday.

Investigators have learned that the boy is developmentally disabled and functions on a two-year-old level. The boy has a very limited vocabulary. He knows his name, but can not speak it. He understands Creole, but can not speak it. He may be hiding from searchers.

Family members initially told deputies the boy was last seen wearing a blue and yellow t-shirt and blue and yellow shorts. Since then other family members have provided deputies with a different version of a clothing description. The boy may also be wearing a blue shirt with yellow stripes, blue shorts with a pink stripe down the side and black and gray sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff's Office at 793-9300.

ORIGINAL STORY

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - Deputies are searching for a 6 year-old boy reported missing in Immokalee Saturday night.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office says Adji Desir around was last seen leaving his home in Farm Workers Village around 7:15 p.m.

Deputies say Adji was watching television in his bedroom when he told his parents he was going outside to play with friends.

His parents watched him leave the house and go outside. When they went to check on him a few minutes later he was nowhere to be found. His parents called for help.

Adji is described as 3 feet tall, 45 pounds, with short black hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a blue and yellow T-shirt and blue and yellow shorts.

Deputies are searching the area with patrol cars, a helicopter and K-9s. They are also going door-to-door assisted by local firefighters.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-793-9300.

OMG, I can feel the pain and anguish of this mother!  I will pray that the angels surround this little boy and guide him home to his mother's arms!!  ::MonkeyWaa::

The Seminole Casion is within the area this child went missing.  This is a big tourist attraction, and given it is tourist season if you are visiting you may have seen this child.
He does not speak, his mother was adament on letting everyone know he can not speak and will not speak to you.  He knows his name which is pronounced AHD-JEEH DUH-SEER.
This family has very little money, so ransom would not be something they could come up with if he was kidnapped.  Immokalee has a lot of pedifiles within the area as well as immigrants, some of which are here illegally.

Dolce please keep us informationed on what is happening.  I am praying that he is found soon.

Has TES been contacted?  There is a chapter in Florida now.

TES has not been contacted that I know of.  I did mention Tim and TES quite a bit today.  I am not very familiar with Immokalee itself, as I live in Naples, which is about 30 mins away, but within the same county.
From what I understand from FL Fish and Wildlife as well as LE, the places where he could be hiding are not at all safe, which is why LE is conducting that portion of the search.
His family can not afford much, the home which they live is farm hand housing, and the rent on those places are in the low 100's a month.  The entire neighborhood is like that, and tends to draw an unsafe croud at times. 
Immokalee is the complete opposite of Naples, today when passing out fliers I got strange vibes from many I came in contact with. 
For the sake of this child, I have been praying that he is only hiding.

Thank you Leroy... I have enough info now to see if I can locate someone. There is always the chance this could be a person frsh into the country from parts unknown and not a person on the database. There are quite a few people working these farms that are very new to the country. I am checking the addresses and surrounding addresses right now. I should know something shortly.

After looking at the few pages I have, the area is teeming with all kinds of potential child abductors. There is one on almost every block.

I am still looking for someone in the farmers village on one of the streets - so far, I have not found anyone in the village. I'll keep trying.

But to save some time I am not typing all the info and just looking for someone close by. And yanno, the absconders are probably still in the area, as that is where their support system is and the last know addresses are not listed - how smart is that?

I would bet at this time, a former sex offender has committed this crime. I hope I am wrong, actually I pray I am, but children get hungry and come home. I can not see a little bot staying away for two nights voluntarily. It just makes no sense to me.

Search expands for missing six-year-old

IMMOKALEE: Deputies will expand the search area when they resume the hunt for a missing Immokalee boy Monday morning.

Six-year-old Adji Desir was last seen Saturday evening when he went outside to play with friends in Immokalee's Farmworker's Village.

His grandmother went to check on him and couldn't find him.

Children who were outside with Adji when he went missing says they just noticed at one point that he was gone.

Investigators say the boy is developmentally disabled and functions on a two-year-old level.

He has a very limited vocabulary - he knows his name, but cannot speak it. Adji also understands Creole, but cannot speak it.

Deputies from Lee, Charlotte, Glades and Hendry counties will join in the search Monday morning.

Collier deputies have not said where they will expand the search area, but they will conduct the search by air and ground.

They'll also follow up on a handful of tips they've received from the public.

Rob thank you so very much for all the research that you did last night.  I was exhausted and went to bed trying to clear my mind last night.

I have forwarded the link to this thread to my dad so that he can get the information around, if they have not already figured out the sex offenders in the area.  I know yesterday it was said that there are a lot of sex offenders within the area as it is low income housing, transient living, and a lot of illegals.  That is the most scarey part, as much as it is monitored they still do get in, and some with questionable pasts.

I made a post yesterday stating how I was getting bad vibes from a lot of people I had encountered, now I can see why.  I did not realize that there were so many within the areas that I was roaming yesterday with my 3 younger siblings handing out fliers, to whom we thought were just neighbors.

The farms that these workers tend to work at our the tomato farms and orange groves.

Thank you again Rob, it is greatly apreciated.  Sorry I did not stay on longer last night.

Florida Fish and Wildlife was also out on the scene the past few days as this area is heavy traffic for the Florida Panther, the reserve is south of this city.  A male panther dominates on average a radius of 13 miles while a female a radius of 5 miles.  Males do not tend to over lap on other males turf, but a female can.
However, I fear the only preditor this child may have come in contact with is that of the human kind.

Vehicles from the Collier County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife have been coming into the Farm Worker Village all morning as officers once again begin the foot search for missing six-year-old Adji Desir.

Adji, who has developmental disabilities and the mind of a 2-year-old, has been missing since Saturday.

Students and their parents walked to Village Oaks Elementary School, where Adji is a student, through heavy fog this morning. Fish and Wildlife vehicles carrying all-terrain vehicles on trailers passed them headed towards the last place Adji was seen.

The Sheriff's Office will expand its search for Anji this morning. Law enforcement officers from other counties are expected to join the search this morning.

Dorcus Howard, principal at Village Oaks Elementary School, declined to comment on the situation Monday morning. She referred all comment to the Collier County School District's administrative offices.

Saturday’s disappearance of 6-year old Adji Desir from Immokalee’s Farm Worker Village has shaken the traditionally close-knit community — where kids’ playing outside without parental supervision has long been the norm.

“I won’t let them out now,” said Village resident Wendy Salas, 20, in an interview Sunday afternoon.

The mother of two said Adji’s disappearance was scary because she’d always felt the Village was a safe neighborhood.

Fellow resident Nadaish “Nana” Dore, 26, agreed with Salas and said she too would not let her three children play outside anymore.

“Nothing like this has ever happened,” said Dore while sitting outside her home with friends on Sunday. “There’s something going on here. This is a good community.”

As of Sunday, some among the community feared that an outsider might have taken Adji.

That was Kethly Bechat’s main worry as she combed her 6-year-old daughter’s hair before work on Sunday night at her home.

“I’m afraid,” said Bechat, 36. “I don’t want somebody to take my baby, too. Everybody afraid.”

Bechat said she knows Adji’s mother and her daughter attends school at Village Oaks Elementary with Adji. She also said neighborhood children regularly play in the nearby woods.

“If he’s out in the woods, hopefully he’s curled up somewhere, keeping warm. We’re going to find him,” said Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten on Sunday.

Batten said the investigation remains a missing child case, but that the department is not ruling anything out.

“From what we’ve been told, he’s not a kid who runs away,” said Batten. “We don’t have any reports of him ever straying before.”

On Sunday afternoon, a Sheriff’s Office commander confirmed that Adji has developmental disabilities and the mind of a 2-year-old boy.

“Very limited vocabulary, non-verbal. Knows his name but cannot say it. Shakes his head yes and no. Understands Creole but does not speak it,” reads the official be-on-the-lookout sheet from the Sheriff’s Office, which also adds that the boy may hide from searchers.

“He may understand he is lost, but he may not approach a stranger to say he is lost,” Batten said.

There are more than 150 law enforcement officers involved in the search, of which 100 are Collier County authorities and include K-9 and horse units. The Sheriff’s Office suspended the foot search in the woods Sunday night, but Batten said a helicopter equipped with infrared radar was going to continue the search for Adji throughout the night. The foot search will resume in the morning.

Adji’s family spoke through an interpreter Sunday afternoon, begging for help from the community.

“If you see Adji, please call the police,” said the boy’s stepfather Antal Elant, 41, in Creole. “Because we want him back.”

The stepfather also told members of the media, with help from Collier County Sheriff’s Office translator Nymphgamey Oboute, that their son is a “good boy” who knows everybody and plays with the other children in the small community.

“Everyone knows Adji,” said Elant.

The boy’s mother, Marie Nadia, 36, said she came home late Saturday night to find her family members in tears. She didn’t know what had happened until she arrived at midnight after a long day at work.

“I just really want to have my child back,” she said in Creole.

The boy spent most of Saturday with his grandmother Jesula Thebaud, 55, who lives in the community a few blocks away from Adji’s parents house. Also speaking through the interpreter, Thebaud said Adji came in and out of her house several times, playing with neighborhood friends and eating lunch with her.

It wasn’t until Elant arrived to pick up Adji around 5 p.m. Saturday, that the family realized he was missing.

“We saw all the kids except him,” said Elant. “We asked the kids where he went and they didn’t know.”

After two hours of looking through the community with friends and family, Elant said they knew what had to be done.

“We called the police,” said Elant.

Sheriff’s Office officials said that as of Saturday afternoon, that Adji was possibly wearing a blue shirt with yellow stripes, blue shorts with a flamingo pink stripe down the side, and black and gray sneakers.

Collier officials added that the outpouring of support from neighboring law enforcement agencies and area volunteers has been a lot of help.

Along with the Collier County authorities, members from the following agencies arrived to help in the search: Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigations and Hendry Correctional Institution. The Hendry Correctional Institution provided bloodhounds for the search.

In addition, members of the Collier County Housing Authority, Collier County Public Schools, Fort Myers Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Farm Worker Village Association and community residents also turned out to help.

Village resident Eva Ramirez, 34, and her friend Joshua Alponte, 32, were among the volunteers who started passing out flyers around the neighborhood with Adji’s information Sunday morning.

Ramirez said association members started making the rounds Saturday night.

“I’m very surprised that anything like this happened,” said Ramirez.

According to National Center for Missing and Exploited Children President Ernie Allen, there aren’t statistics that show how many missing children are disabled.

However, Allen said due to their condition, they are very vulnerable.

“That is why it is important that the Collier County Sheriff’s Office has moved so quickly,” said Allen. “Time is the enemy here.”

He says the risks in this area are different than, say, Wisconsin, at this time of year, but they are serious nonetheless.

“The vast majority of kids in these cases are recovered safely. The assumption is this is a little boy who has wandered away, who may be confused,” Allen said. “Collier County has put people up in the air, they have put people on horseback. We’re also very enthusiastic about the use of bloodhounds in these cases.”

Nothing new as far as developements go.  Just received a call from my husband who said its a lot less crouded today since the children are in school and many of those living in the area are out at work. 
Our weather has been colder than normal since early Sunday morning, this morning it was cold and foggy for this area, in Naples it was 64 degrees, which means Immokalee would have been at around 66 degrees.

As the search for a missing six-year-old boy moves into its third day, law enforcmement officials are doubling their search area to find him.

About 150 law enforcement officers are in the Farm Worker Village looking for Adji Desir, who has developmental disabilities and the mind of a 2-year-old and went missing Saturday.

Law enforcement officials are concentrating their search on the Northwest side of the Farm Worker Village, according to Collier County Sheriff Sgt. Robert Brown.

"We have two distinct areas we are searching. One is the residential area within the Farm Worker Village and then you have the woods with the mangroves and the swamp-like condition," he said. GIVES ME CHILLS JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.

Officers are conducting line searches, traversing an area north to south and east to west to ensure they find the missing boy, he said.

The officers are searching the four-square miles they searched Sunday, as well as an additional four miles, Brown said. The search includes looking for places Adji might hide, like in trash cans, and along the canal that runs on the west side of the Farm Worker Village.

In addition to officers on foot, law enforcement officers are searching for the boy on horseback and on all-terrain vehicles.

Brown said the search through the mangroves and wooded areas has been difficult and slow, but thorough.

Complicating the matter is that Adji has a limited vocabulary and is non-verbal. He knows his name, but cannot say it. Sheriff officials have also said the boy may hide from searchers and, while he may understand he is lost, he might not approach a stranger to say he is lost.

One thing the officers are thankful for is the fog. Though visibility out in the Farm Worker Village is 20 to 30 feet, Brown said, the fog is keeping the sun off searchers' backs and allowing them to stay hydrated and out searching longer.

Brown said the sooner officers can find Adji, the better.

"He is out there and has had a lack of food and sleep," he said. "We are going to keep the same tempo we have had. The sense of urgency has not stopped."

On Monday morning, Fiesta 5 Supermarket employee Gladys Aurelio said patronage at the community mini-mart was down.

"Almost no one is coming around," said Aurelio, who attributed the drop to residents hunkering down at home, awaiting for news on Adji.

Long-time resident Delfina Vasquez, 60, agreed and said a sense of fear had permeated the neighborhood.

However, both agreed that more should be done to find the missing child.

"Everyone talks about the disappearance," Aurelio said. "But no one gives any tips (on how to find him)."

Officers began searching for Adji at 8 a.m. Monday. Brown said they would keep searching for him until they found him or were told to stop.

"We are on a mission to find this child," he said.

I was so sad when I came on here to see if Adji had been found, and saw all the listings that Rob had posted with sex offenders, in the area. The family brought tears to my eyes, when I saw their picture. My prayers and thoughts are with all the searchers.

Adji was a pre-k student in my classroom last year. He is a wonderful sweet, shy child. He was able to tell my teaching assistant the name of his new school and teacher when she saw him this year. Although children do the unexpected, he never wandered away from our group as many other students do. His mother, with the best English she could attempt, always thanked us for our efforts and said she thanked Jesus for her son, even though he couldn't speak. I appreciate the efforts of the searchers and hope that some of the Amber Alert resources can be used since abduction cannot be ruled out.

I'm new to this thread, but WTF. This child is not only "developmentally disabled", but "functions on a two-year-old level".  As well, he "has a very limited vocabulary."  Yet not only did he tell his parents he was leaving to go outside and play with friends, but they let him?  ::MonkeyEek::

That said, I'm hoping he is found alive and well.  His family must be heartbroken.

I was thinking the same Another, however I did read somewhere that this is a fairly *safe* area and most of the kids were out playing unattended.  And Adji had never wandered off before.

Thank you Leroy, I know that the family apreciates it.  They are very sweet people from what I have seen.  I get good vibes from the grandmother and mother.  The grandmother looks after Adji when the parents are at work, and from what I understood yesterday the mother and stepfather missed work yesterday and more than likely today as well given the circumstances and from being told they are out with the search, which results in no pay for this family.
The mother is who I spoke with the most yesterday, she is able to speak the most english out of the bunch.  She was shaking the entire time she held my hand and tears just rolled down her cheeks. 
After last night, my family thinks its best I support from the home front, so that is what I am doing. 
Adji's family is doing everything they can possible to search for their son as is the LE and FFWL and volunteers.

The area I live in is also fairly safe.. my son is 5, and has Autism. He is high functioning and verbal (though I'm not sure if he would go up to somebody and tell them he was lost).  There is no way in hell I would let either of my kids play outside (in the front yard where there is no fence) unattended.  This boy functions on a 2 yr old level.   Would you let a 2 yr old play in the front yard unattended?

Either way, I hope the little boy is found alive and well. He must be terrified.

While I agree with you AM that I would be skeptical about letting my child play in the neighborhood, from what I understood being there yesterday, as well as what my husband and father witnessed today, this neighborhood is thought to be one of close friends and community.  Nearly every one of the adults works with each other on a daily basis, the kids have grown up together and go to school with one another, and if an outsider comes in they know about it.
My husband told me that today the children that went to school were taken there by their parents, the bus stopped for pickup, but no children got on.  The children that have stayed home have done so with their parents and remain inside watching from their windows.
I do not know if it was known to them how many sex offenders are living in their community, but given that the LE has been going door to door speaking with everyone and searching homes, I am sure that they are aware of the evil of some of these living among them.

From what I understood, saying "functions at a 2 yr old level" is not the best choice of words.  He has the street knowledge to play with other children and from what I was told NEVER wanders from his own yard.  His learning level and capability is that of a 2 year old.  His mother told us yesterday that she just does not understand as Adji knows better than to leave the yard unattended by an adult or older supervisor that was ok'ed by his grandmother. 
The woods that the children have spoke of, saying that is where they play, one little boy was quick to say that Adji does not play with them there that often, and when he does its only if his cousins are with him.

Another thing to add, this entire neighborhood is made up of immigrants from all over.  Going to Immokalee is like going to another country if you are not there for the Casino.
Adults are always out on their front patio sitting and watching, not nessesarily in the pedifile way, but in the "take in some fresh air" way. 
What is strange to me, no one has seen anything, and from what my father was hinting at, that is odd.

Collier County Sheriff's Office asking for volunteers to help in search for missing six year old boy.  They are asking volunteers to show up at the Immokalee Community Park, 321 North First Street, between two and four this afternoon.  Deputies will distribute flyers of the missing boy and direct volunteers are locations to search.  Residents are also asked to check their yards and nearby areas.

I myself would not let my 2 year play outside unattended. 

I guess I am just giving this family the benefit of the doubt so to speak because their actions compared to the actions of the Anthonys is...well do I even need to say any more.

I wish I could help this family  - it breaks my heart knowing he is out there somewhere and hopefully safe.

I jumped over here to read the updates and when I saw a pic of the little guy, I just lost it.  What a sweet boy.  I saw ALL the information that Rob posted (omg, awesome job, rob) and that is a crying shame.  The area is full of pedophiles.  ::MonkeyNoNo:: Geez, I pray to God that he is found safe and sound.  I'll be back and forth from the Caylee thread to this one, checking in for some good news. 

AM your reaction was the same as my Stepmothers.  She looked like a deer in the headlights when my father was telling us the child functioned at the capacity of a 2 year old, but we were assured that everyone in the community looked after one another. 
I too had to take into consideration the cultural differences, as I do not allow my own siblings ages 5, 7, and 9 to play out in our yard unattended, and we have a security guard who drives our 4 streets constantly 24/7. 
There are large canals, lakes, and swampy wooded areas within the vecinity, and that is what gives me the creeps.  I came in contact with some shady individuals yesterday who gave me bad vibes, but I still have more fear of the elements in this case.

I'm so sad for this little boy his is a cutie pie I hope he is found alive and soon.

IMMOKALEE — Jesula Thebaud looks through her purse.

She brings out two passports - one of her and another of a smiling little boy.

She chokes back tears as she looks at the photo.

The little boy, six-year-old Adji Desir, is her missing grandson.

In Thebaud's small bungalow in the Farm Worker Village, the living room is dark and stifling hot. The windows closed so that the 54-year-old woman and her daughter can cry with friends and family who have stopped by.

Outside, police search for Adji, who disappeared Saturday evening.

They have even started making specific visits to known criminals.

"We’ve been physically knocking on doors of registered sex offenders in the Immokalee area," Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten said. "We’ve been interviewing them; asking them about their whereabouts."

The Sheriff's Office is inviting the community to assist law enforcement in the search for 6-year-old Adji Desir of Immokalee.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 12, deputies will be at Immokalee Community Park, 321 N. 1st St., handing out fliers to members of the public to distribute.

Deputies will return to the park at 10 a.m. on Tuesday to once again pass out fliers.

Anyone interested in distributing fliers is asked to bring identification with them and they will receive fliers to hand out.

The outburst was too much for Neida, who retreats into the back of the home. A toy fire engine sits on the floor in the doorway of one of the bedrooms.

"He is a good boy. He is happy," said Patricia Belizaire, a family friend.

As the family grieves inside, officers walk through the woods behind the broken chain link fence behind the home, hoping for a sign of the little boy.

About 150 law enforcement officers from nine different agencies are in the Farm Worker Village searching by foot, horseback, all-terrain vehicle and with dogs for Adji. The Collier County Sheriff's Office has expanded the search from four square miles Sunday to 8 miles Monday.

I am praying that God watches over Adji and brings him home safely.  The family and searchers are in my prayers too.

My husband has returned today from an uneventfull day searching for Adji.  He said the terrain they were searching through was less than friendly.  He noted that he, a grown man, would not ever wish to be in that sort of crud let alone a small child.  He said that he heard other searchers with LE mention that they are keeping the search radius small due to the fact that the child was small and not functioning on an average 6y/o mentallity, they do not think that IF he wandered away from home that he would have made it very far given the elements.

From what I was told by my father, in response to Rob's posts, they are very well aware of all the sex offenders within the area along with other criminals, they have searched homes of known offenders as well as the homes of Adji's friends. 

I just read BleachedBlacks post of the article from our newspapers front page, and she too highlighted the information about LE checking in with the known offenders, I just wanted to reitterate that they started doing that Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Another problem that my father says they are running into is the time its taking to get a hold of some of the individuals in these homes.  Many are illegal immigrants, and rather than open the door they hide, and rather than speak with police they run.  This causes suspicion and time on the LE's part to try to get through to those individuals that this search is about Adji and NOT about ICE.

I am still praying for this little guy.  This is a horrible story and I just pray for his family as they are gowing through this.  Thanks for keeping us informed Dolce.

Sheriff's Office to discuss missing child case on CNN tonight

News of the missing boy in Immokalee will reach a national audience Monday night.

Lt. Tom Smith, one of the lead Collier County Sheriff's Office investigators in the search for 6-year-old Adji Desir, is scheduled to be a featured guest on Nancy Grace's live show on CNN sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.

Smith plans on discussing the ongoing search for the boy, who is developmentally disabled and functions on a 2-year-old level. Authorities have been searching for Adji since he went missing Saturday evening in the Farm Worker Village in Immokalee.

Well, I am hoping for good news tomorrow for this cutie!!  Saying many prayers for him and his family, they really look distraught with him missing.

I saw the video on NG tonight of the searchers going through the underbrush out there.  Wow, my prayers are for Adji and the searchers.  That is pretty tough ground to be mucking through.  Bugs, snakes, etc.  Tell your Dad and DH that they are my heroes!

I wonder if they are allowed to leave old open refrigerators there?  They are outlawed here.  You either have to take the door off or tie them in such a way a child cannot get in there.

I have not seen when LE got involved but I assume very soon vs a month or more.  A scent tracking dog should have hit on something !!

Tonight on NG they said LE was contacted 2 hours or so after the family noticed him missing (the family was searching the neighborhood during this time).  IIRC it was around 7:30pm that LE was notified. 

Yes LE was notified immediately.  Vehicles were searched both empty and ones stopped during a huge road block that went on for days.  Homes were searched of neighbors and known offenders by the CCSO.  They searched every nook and cranny within the neighborhood itself, including trashcans, crawl spaces, and equipment.  They have searched the canals near by as well as under the over passes of these canals by hoist.

Collier County has a strict policy on polution as far as throwing unwanted junk out into the middle of "no where" as much of our land down here is part of the reserve by the state for endangered panthers, or by the Indian tribes.  So there may be debris scattered here and there, but it would be few and far between, and most likely not the size of a beat down car or refridgerator, but good thinking.  I have not heard my hubs say they have ran across that, just a lot of water pythons.

It was awesome that this story received national attention last night.  His family has little to no money, and what they do have saved is from his mothers constant effort to keep the family afloat by working over time.  This is what I was told on Saturday by the Aunt.  I do not know much about the stepfather, he seemed distant to me, but I was assured that he was a good man.  He has been helping with the search since Adji went missing, as has the rest of the family.  The CCSO has asked that both the mother and grandmother not search the woods with the search parties, so rather they have stayed inside making phone calls or passed out fliers from what I was told.

As the search enters its fourth day, deputies will expand their search area to an 8-mile radius. Volunteers who want to help pass out fliers can come to the Immokalee Community Park at 321 N. 1st Street from 10am to Noon. Please bring an ID and be prepared to walk.

Dozens of law enforcement officers from agencies around Southwest Florida joined more than 100 CCSO deputies in the search for Adji Desir the 6 -year-old Immokalee boy that has been missing since Saturday evening. Deputies on horseback, on ATVs, in helicopters, with K-9, as well as in patrol cars, and on foot were searching the area in and around Farm Workers Village for a third day on Sunday.

Investigators have learned that the boy is developmentally disabled and functions on a 2-year-old level. The boy has a very limited vocabulary. He knows his name, but can not speak it. He understands Creole, but can not speak it. He may be hiding from searchers.

Family members initially told deputies the boy was last seen wearing a blue and yellow t-shirt and blue and yellow shorts. Since then other family members have provided deputies with a different version of a clothing description.

The boy may also be wearing a blue shirt with yellow stripes, blue shorts with a pink stripe down the side and black and gray sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff's Office at 793-9300.

IMMOKALEE — The search in Immokalee for 6-year-old Adji Desir, who disappeared from outside his grandmother’s Farmworker Village home on Saturday, expanded to a 12 mile radius on Tuesday.

More than 150 law enforcement officers from agencies around the state continue to search for the boy.

Though the focus of the search has shifted to the outskirts of Immokalee, Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten said there is still some searching going on in Farmworker Village as well. Tuesday’s weather was foggy, rainy and cool, but Batten said it hasn’t affected the search.

"Obviously cold and rain can cause some challenges," Batten said. "Thankfully, all of the thing that rain or the elements may affect, like evidence...those sorts of issues and areas have already been covered.

"We feel we have covered all the ground here. We’re not going to lose (bloodhound) scents. We’re not going to lose evidence."

Adji’s immediate family members were notified this morning that they are not being looked at as suspects in the boy’s disappearance, Batten said. It is not clear if any family members could face neglect charges.

"Right now our focus is on finding the boy," Batten said.

According to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement database, there are 18 registered sex offenders living within five miles of Farmworker Village. The Sheriff’s Office said previously they have been tracking down and interviewing those individuals.

Despite Adji being gone for four day, Batten said investigators are still hopeful that he will be found alive.

"It’s not that uncommon for a child to survive for a long time," she said. "This boy is young, he’s resilient, his body is small. He might be able to survive for a long time."

"We can’t stop the search," Batten said. "We’re always going to be searching. There’s always been amazing tales of people who survive out in the elements."

The Sheriff’s Office also reported that all the garbage in Immokalee has been collected and isolated.

"It hasn’t been searched," Batten said. "It’s been isolated so if we need to search it, it’s all in one place."

The search for six-year old Adji Desir continued Tuesday in Immokalee.

By 11 a.m. more than 100 people had shown up at Immokalee Community Park and been given an area to cover.

“We anticipate by noon, all of Immokalee will have been covered,” said Collier County Lt. Michael Dolan.

Dolan said the volunteers have given law enforcement the necessary manpower to do the job.

“We’re able to cover the entire community of Immokalee door to door,” said Dolan. “That’s how important the volunteers are.”

He added that additional fliers had been handed out to the local schools and some had been given to bus drivers so they could hand them out as the kids get dropped off at home.

That way some of the homes will be double covered, said Dolan

Volunteers continued to trickle in from all over Southwest Florida, including Cape Coral residents Jamie and Jean Harrell

“We saw it on the news,” said Jean Harrell, 39, as she waited for an area assignment with her husband Jamie, 40. “We’re retired and we thought ‘Why not? Anything to help out.”

Also lending a helping hand were members of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Collier office.

“We believe that the first three days of a child reported missing are critical,” said Carol Kirchdorfer, with the Collier County office of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “If you can find them in three days it’s a blessing. Once it goes on, past that, the child has most probably left the area.”

In a interview, Collier County spokeswoman Karie Partington said the eight mile search area had been expanded by four additional miles on Tuesday.

Partington said a digital billboard with Adji’s picture and information was brought in, and placed at the intersection of Main Street and First Street.

“AD Systems is letting us use it,” said Partington. “It’s like a flier on steroids.”

In total 185 people turned out Tuesday to help search for Adji, some going out in to the community multiple times.

Authorities said although the town had been fully covered by noon, late comers were able to still help by passing out fliers at intersections and local business.

News of the continuing search has made its way through the town and local businesses are getting involved by putting up fliers.

At the H&R Block office off Lake Trafford Road, as well as several surrounding businesses, the flier with Adji’s picture and information was pasted on the window- extras laid on a counter ready to be passed out.

H&R Block employee France Vidaurri said the missing boy has definitely been the talk of the community.

Having herself lived in Farm Worker Village for many years, Vidaurri said that she didn’t understand why there wasn’t more information about Adji’s last known location out there.

“I just think that there are so many houses so close by, someone has to have seen something,” said Vidaurri, 34.

At the Caribbean Star Food Supermarket and Beauty Supply store off E. Delaware Avenue in Southeast Immokalee Janine Antwan, 45, agreed with Vidaurri.

“How does a child like that disappear,” said Antwan, in Spanish adding that she went to Farm Village to pick up some fliers herself. “How can people not know what happened to him. Poor child!”

Meanwhile a little further up at the Ce Bien Haitian Bakery on First Street South, Fleurilia Senatus said all the little shop’s customers know Adji hasn’t been found.

“All the people are worried about him… they want to find him,” said Senatus, 47, who has lived in Immokalee for eight years.

NAPLES — The story of a missing 6-year-old Immokalee boy continues to gain a national following.

Nancy Grace, who interviewed Lt. Tom Smith of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office on Monday night, is planning to interview a Naples Daily News editor tonight, as her show on CNN continues to following the disappearance of Adji Desir.

Jay Schlichter, an assistant content editor for the newspaper, is scheduled to be a guest on the show at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Collier County Sheriff Kevin J. Rambosk will also appear on CNN Headline News at 5:45 p.m. to speak about the case and Smith, a lead investigator in the case, is expected to rejoin the Nancy Grace show tonight.

I watched most of NG's segment tonight about this case and it seems they are focusing more on the registered sex offenders in the immediate area and leaning more toward a kidnapping, as well.  Does not sound good for this precious young man.  I hope and pray that tomorrow finds him safe at home. 

Critical third day passes with no sign of missing Immokalee 6-year-old

NAPLES — When a child goes missing, the first 72 hours are the most crucial.

“If you can find them in three days it’s a blessing,” said Carol Kirchdorfer, with the Collier County office of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “Once it goes on past that, the child has most probably left the area.”

The search for 6-year-old Adji Desir, who was staying with his grandmother at her Farm Worker Village home in Immokalee when he disappeared Saturday, reached the critical 72-hour mark Tuesday.

Still, there was no sign of the developmentally disabled boy, who police say has the mental capacity of a 2-year-old.

Perhaps the biggest development in the case came when the Sheriff’s Office told Adji’s immediate family members that they are not being looked at as suspects in the boy’s disappearance. It is not clear if any family members could face neglect charges.

Though Adji is still considered a missing person, the Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday that it is conducting parallel investigations to explore the possibility of abduction.

“As the search continues, for the last 72 hours there has been an equal balance in the investigation between the case being a wandering off disappearance versus an abduction,” sheriff’s Lt. Despite Adji being missing four days, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten said investigators are still hopeful that he will be found alive.

She said the Sheriff’s Office is relying on local and national media to get out the word of his disappearance.

“It’s not that uncommon for a child to survive for a long time,” she said. “This boy is young, he’s resilient, his body is small. He might be able to survive for a long time.”

The roughly 185 volunteers who turned out to help authorities were also undeterred by the circumstance.

By 11 a.m. more than 100 volunteers visited Immokalee Community Park and got an area to cover. The volunteers passed out fliers, knocked on doors and spoke with residents.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Jan. 13 - The lead investigator, Lt. Tom Smith, tells Four In Your Corner that CCSO will scale back its local search efforts for missing 6-year old Adji Desir. CCSO will now shift its focus to abduction. The search area will now expand and national resources will be used to find the child. Several tips came up short today. Video tape from Cape Coral gas stations did not show the child. The family has been cleared of any suspicion.

Running out of places to look for Adji

IMMOKALEE: The search for six-year-old Adji Desir was scaled back somewhat today, and the sheriff plans to address the case at 2 p.m. today.

Also, Crime Stoppers announced the reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Adji has grown to $3,500.

About 100 deputies are looking for the Immokalee boy, who vanished Saturday, instead of the 150 who have been involved the past few days.

They'll also stop using bloodhounds in the hunt. The sheriff's office helicopter will be in the air.

Most open areas have already been searched, so the dual investigation - covering possibilities Adji wandered off or that he was abducted - have shifted a bit more to the possibility someone took him.

Deputies are going door to door in the area, getting the names of the people in each home and interviewing them, according to Lt. Tom Smith of the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff issued a call for volunteers to help in the search Monday and Tuesday, but there is no request for volunteers today - though anyone who shows up won't be turned away.

Deputies are sill asking people to check around their property, in trash bins, ditches, etc. to see if the boy, who is developmentally disabled, could be hiding there.

The sheriff's office mobile command center at Farm Workers Village will remain in place until at least Saturday.

And searchers are dealing with a different weather concern - cold.

For the past two days, rescuers have dealt with fog that hampered the use of aircraft as they looked for the boy.

Despite the lower temperatures, deputies say Adji could still be fending for himself.

A group of former homicide and cold case investigators, called Team Adam, showed up to assist in the search Wednesday. The group regularly works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children when a child is missing.

Anyone who has seen Adji is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-780- TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for the reward of up to $3,500.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Jan. 14-  The Collier County Sheriff's Office is now focusing on a criminal investigation as the search for Adjo Desir continues. The Sheriff made a plea for more tips as CCSO has very little information to work with. All 600 homes in the Farm Workers Village have been cleared of any wrong doing. The family cannot think of anyone who would want to hurt the 6 year old boy. Deputies shifted through tons of trash on hold since Monday from Farm Workers Village. A reward has been offered for any information that leads to a break in the case. The search starts again Thursday

IMMOKALEE, Fla. - Its the fourth night 6-year-old Adji Desir has been missing from home.

As hundreds of deputies and volunteers search for the little boy, his family is turning to prayer.

Adji's mother and grandmother joined friends and family Tuesday evening inside the home at Farm Worker's Village, where Adji was last seen Saturday night.

Even though four days of searching have turned up no signs of the little boy, his mother believes he is alive out there somewhere.

"He's okay. I believe that," Maria Nadia says.

She says she is very thankful for all of the support she's received from the community in the search for her only son. Right now, she says its prayers she needs the most.

"I need everybody to pray for me, for my family, for Adji. Just give Adji back," Nadia says.

Friends of the family say they believe God knows where Adji is and will help him find his way home.

"Nothing's impossible to God. God knows where he is now and we believe God will, we can get Adji back," Pastor Andre Mezirus says.

The Collier Sheriff's office has searched a 12 mile radius in the Immokalee area with no signs of Adji.

On Wednesday, they plan to evaluate their search so far, and decide what direction to move in next.

My husband was not out with the search yesterday as he is suffering from massive amounts of poison ivy....the one thing that I am NOT allergic to.  My father was involved with the search that turned up nothing yesterday.  He is from a neighboring county so I am uncertain if he will be brought into the initial investigation, but he has said that they were contacted and asked to please continue aiding in the recovery and rescue of Adji.  That is about all the info I was given.
I do know that some arrests had been made recently among some of the sex offenders they had "checked in on", HOWEVER it is NOT related to this case in any way.
As I get info I will share it, but knowing my father I am going to be just as out of the loop as everyone else watching this case.  My fathers motto is "Protect the integrity of the evidence".

Thanks for the updates Dolce and the commitment from your father and husband. They sound like wonderful men and you are so lucky to have them in your life.

Like everyone else here, I am worried about Adji terribly. And I don't like to be too critical of the investigators or LE. After-all they are on our side.

But they have missed a critical fact. That fact is that Adji was in his house and went outside to play. This is not a stalking case where the predator waited in the shadows and pounced. This is a crime of opportunity. Someone saw the chance and grabbed lil Adji. The fact that this happened in the blink of an eye tells me that the predator saw Adji and just moved quickly.

Somewhere in the last few pages there is a new clip that indicates that the other children saw him and then he was gone.

In order for that to have occurred, the predator must be known to the other children in that neighborhood and they made no mental note of this persons presence. When I see my neighbors daily, I usually do not make a mental note of what they are wearing or what they are doing - that's because I know they belong in the neighborhood.

Dolce, please ask the LE and your father to go back and reinterview the sex offenders in the village and surrounding areas. I still feel that the person is located right under their nose. Of course I could be wrong, but everything is pointing to a seasoned pedophile with a long history and track record.

I would think that the odds that someone drove to the farmers village, in hopes of abducting Adji, or another child is remote, but the chance is still there none the less. The odds favor someone local and someone who would blend in with the neighborhood. When people just vanish (like an alien abduction) it is committed by someone right "there" and the police miss critical "dots" and the case goes unsolved. I believe the info is right there in the village. Again, I could be wrong, but the info I see tells me that this case is local and not someone driving to the area and abducting Adji and driving home and risking discovery.

Given the time frame of less than two hours between abduction and LE interaction - it doesn't leave much time for a predator to move in and out of the area very easily. It could happen of course, but in all likelihood, the predator is in their presence right now. A seasoned pedophile would know how to cover some tracks, but not all.

Good thinking, Rob.  But, we still don't know if it was even an abduction?  Like we have heard, he is disabled and might hide from the people searching for him.  He could be in a ditch, laying in the woods, hidden...he could be hurt and not able to scream for help, or god forbid, he could be deceased somewhere, and they just can't find his body.

IMMOKALEE: After an extensive search that covered miles around the home of six-year-old Adji Desir, deputies are turning more to the possibility the boy was abducted.

The FBI is deploying its CARD - Child Abduction Rapid Deployment - team Thursday.

While some agencies are pulling back on the search, deputies say there will still be about 150 involved in the search Thursday - thanks to groups like CARD now getting involved.

An Amber Alert was not issued in the case, because Adji's disappearance didn't fit the requirements.

In order of an alert to be issued there has to be very clear evidence the child was abducted, a suspect vehicle description, etc.

Since none of the children playing with him saw anything suspicious, there was - and still is - the possibility Adji just wandered off.

Wednesday, investigators combed through the trash that has been collected in Farm Workers Village since Adji disappeared.

They also got help from a group of former homicide and cold case investigators known as "Team Adam," who assisted in the search.

Deputies have been going door-to-door in Farm Workers Village, but they found no sign of Adji.

I feel that you are very right with your post about the abductor being right under their nose.  I posted a few posts back about how the people in this neighborhood are, how they all sit out front on their patios, everyone seems to know everyone, and the kids all play. 
My father find it very odd that everyone is saying that they did not see anything.
His exact words were "Did they not see anything or did they not see anything out of the ordinary?"  Which brings me right back to what you said. 
Another thing that my husband found odd, and we discussed it a bit with my father, from the very moment that LE arrived and the search started, all the kids began to stay inside.  If everyone truely believed that he had just wandered off then why the need to keep your kids inside, why not let them ride the bus or go to school?  These are all things we have discussed around the table at night trying to piece things together and also trying to get info out of my father.  He thinks something is up.
I know my hubs has hisreservations about the step-father.
Either way, it had to be something that would not jump out at people sitting on their patio to take notice and remember back to seeing occur, or they are all just in fear of this person and are keeping their mouth shut. (My money is on either one of these scenarios.)

Every inch of Immokalee has been covered by searchers over the past 4 days.  Immokalee is not that big of an area and the places he could have gone to are limitted by the obsticals around the area, but yet they did search beyond that.  LE used an infared chopper to search at night and did searches of areas that looked to be of interest. 

Just want to note that they have not just now started the investigation into the abduction, that has been going on in the background of the search, they starting checking vehicles entering and exiting the area immediately, offenders have been looked into by members of the force since the first day of search.  Just wanting to say that its not something they have just started to think about.

well I hope if they don't find him soon, they at least find something that helps to narrow down what happened.  I am sure it's frusterating beyond belief not know if he was kidnapped or wandered off.

Would like to add that it is dark in my neighborhood at 7:15 pm. Where ever Adgi may have wandered. Who whomever he may have encountered could have gone un-noticed under cover of darkness. I agree with others posts- check neighbors again.

UPDATE: Thursday, Jan. 15- The mother and step-father of Adji Desir tell Four In Your Corner they just want their son home. Everytime someone knocks on the door they think it is good news coming their way. His mother wants to kiss him and run her fingers through his hair. They want to thank all the volunteers and the sheriff's office for keeping up the search for Adji. 300 law enforcement officers searched a 16 square mile radius today. They also looked in Lake Trafford. The reward is now up to $11,500.

CCSO is once again inviting citizen volunteers to help in the search for 6-year-old Adji Desir of Immokalee.

On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. representatives will be at Immokalee Community Park, 321 N. 1st St., handing out fliers to volunteers.

Volunteers will be asked to distribute the fliers in their own communities or locations of their choice.

Representatives familiar with Collier, Lee and Hendry counties will be on hand to suggest possible locations and offer assistance. Maps of all three counties will be on display.

NAPLES — Efforts resumed today to find the 6-year-old Immokalee boy who went missing nearly one week ago.

Authorities and volunteers continued searching and officials still were investigating the possibility that someone abducted Adji Desir last weekend.

Thursday, his mother spoke about his disappearance in a soft and sometimes unsteady voice spoke of an unimaginable despair.

“I feel like my life is almost over,” said Marie Neida, 36, in Creole during a press conference Thursday.

Adji went missing Saturday from his grandmother’s home at Farm Worker Village in Immokalee.

And on Thursday, there was still no sign of the developmentally disabled boy, who police say has the mental capacity of a 2-year-old.

With help from Collier County Sheriff’s Office translator Nymphgamey Oboute, Adji’s mother and stepfather gave an update on their family’s status and how they’re all holding up.

“I see that the community is doing a good job because they are helping us find Adji,” said the boy’s stepfather, Antal Elant, 41, in Creole. “The police officers are not sleeping, they’re doing a good service. That’s why I have hope that they will find Adji.”

Elant said faith continues to give the family strength.

“We have a God in heaven who is helping us search for him too,” said Elant. “We are not going to lose faith, because we know we are going to find him.”

Neida agreed.

“God will give him back to me,” Neida said. “I think he will come home.”

Adji’s disappearance has taken a toll on the family, Elant said.

Especially on Neida — this is the longest she’s ever been apart from her only child.

“She can’t even sleep. Every time she tries to lie down she remembers Adji and she gets up,” said Elant.

The family is also dealing with the stream of calls from extended family and friends asking for updates.

Both Elant and Neida said they were grateful for the outpouring of support.

“I want to tell everyone thank you,” said Neida. “Because I see that everyone is my family in this country.”

Law enforcement officials will continue to look for Adji today.

“As of yesterday, we had gone 12 square miles and we’re expanding another 4 square miles in all directions today,” said Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Karie Partington during a press conference.

Adji’s story will air on America’s Most Wanted on Saturday, Partington said.

Though Sheriff’s Office officials believe the number of agents would be slightly scaled back, roughly 300 law enforcement officials — 100 of which are Collier County deputies — are expected to continue the search Friday, with boats and airboats joining the effort, Partington said.

“The search for Adji has been just phenomenal,” said incident commander Lt. Tom Smith, in an interview Thursday. “We started off with 80 officers or so the first night. It jumped to 150 the next of couple of nights and yesterday we had over 300 officers here searching. And today it was nearly the same.”

Sheriff’s officials said more than 40 law enforcement and emergency response agencies have given their time and manpower.

“We’ve been tremendously lucky,” said Smith.

Concerning the expanded search, which included Immokalee’s Lake Trafford, Smith said the lake’s shoreline had been on the investigators’ radar.

“It is a location that if you are going to search this community for a missing person or a missing child, that would be someplace that you would have to cover as a natural progression of the investigation,” said Smith.

In addition to law enforcement from Collier County, Lee County, Orange County and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission using boats and airboats, the Tampa Search and Rescue Team brought down an amphibious vehicle with underwater sonar and cameras to help scan the lake.

Smith also confirmed that investigators had cleared through the 15 to 20 truckloads of trash that had been set aside to search for any clues that might lead to Adji.

“They went through probably 60 tons of trash at the transfer station,” said Smith. “That refuse has been cleared and it has been disposed of.”

Meanwhile, the state Department of Children and Families has become involved in the case.

“We’ve been working with the Sheriff’s Office since the beginning,” said DCF spokeswoman Erin Gillespie, adding that the agency has had no prior involvement with any of Adji’s family members.

“Right now, law enforcement has the lead on the whole case,” she said. “Depending on the outcome, we could be more involved. We’re just waiting and hoping for the best. It’s a sad case.”

Partington said the cost of the search is impossible to calculate at this point.

By law, all the law enforcement officers who participated in the search had to be on the clock, she said.

The FBI has been assisting with the search since it started but the Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency on the case, Partington said.

The Sheriff’s Office does plan for emergencies, but searches of this magnitude are difficult to plan for.

“It’s like a 100-year storm,” Partington said. “It’s just something you have to cope with. We do have money, but this is an extraordinary event.”

Asked how the agents keep the morale up, when so many people question if Adji is still alive, Smith said that it comes with the job.

“You always train for the things that you don’t want to happen. We didn’t want this to happen, but we’re trained for it, we’re prepared for it ... we know what our mission is — our mission is to bring Adji home and we intend to do so,” Smith said. “Whether or not we bring him home immediately, a few days later, a month later or a year later, we are going to finish this case.”

Smith said people have asked how long it would take for the Sheriff’s Office to make Adji’s case a “cold case.”

He said that wouldn’t happen.

“Cold case is a TV term, this case will always be an open case,” said Smith. “We will always search for Adji.”

Is it possible that someone has heard about the Caylee case and decided to make money by taking this little boy???

I am broken hearted by this story.  Someone knows something!  I feel like he is being hidden away somewhere.  Maybe in a basement.  Somewhere the police might not know about.  This little boy was vulnerable and it makes me very frightened that someone knew that and took advantage of it.  I am praying that this comes to an end soon.

I completely agree with you, Perriwinkle.  I dont think that he wandered off.  I think someone who knew him took advantage of his disability.  I am praying for his safe return and I pray it is soon.  Dolce, you are such a sweetheart, helping with whatever you can, your husband for searching and your father as well.  Praying for all.

Just a passing thought that I had today while visiting with some friends in FL Fish & Wild Life and family in LE who have been helping with the search for Adji. 
If he was taken, he was taken by someone who knew him and knew the area.  Someone who would not stick out to the other children playing and adults sitting on their front patios.  Someone who knew enough about Adji to know that he would yell "Help" or scream, because he did not feel threatened let alone his undeveloped speach.
The window from 5:15 when his grandmother allowed him to go play to 7:30 when his stepfather was not able to find him gives a huge window of oportunity for someone who knew enough about this child to make a move.

Dolce, this was my first thought also.  This case really tugs on my heart strings.  I think because my mom has worked in the field with the mentally disabled and handicapped for most her life so I have a soft spot for them.

Just wanted to add this little note...the CCSO is exhausting every possible possibility in this case.  They have gone through mounds of trash, swam & examined alligator infested waters, searched the swamps, and we have been kept up each night with the choppers circling the outer areas (which brings them to my neighborhood here which is a good 12-15 miles from Immokalee and the CCSO substation is less than a quarter mile from our neighborhood)...they have been flying for hours upon hours till 3am searching the wooded areas for this child.
We have 3 neighbors who are CCSO'ers and they have been working all hours of the day in search of Adji and you can see it written on their faces each day the disappointment and upset when nothing is found.

This is what I've been really worried about since he hasn't been found yet. I wouldn't think he could have wandered off so far that he wouldn't have been found by now.  It is great to hear how many searchers are involved looking for Adji.  I really feel so badly for his family. I just hope and pray he is still alive.

Pray that Adji will be found and that the searchers have the strength to continue on.

IMMOKALEE, Fla. -- A southwest Florida sheriff's office is seeking volunteers to help find a 6-year-old boy who's been missing for a week.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office said Adji Desir disappeared from a migrant farm worker village in Immokalee Jan. 10 after he went outside to play. The sheriff's office is asking for volunteers to come to an Immokalee park Saturday to pick up fliers they can distribute in their own communities.

Hundreds of volunteers searched this week for the boy, who authorities said is developmentally disabled and has the mental capacity of a 2-year-old. The FBI has assigned special agents to help with the investigation.

Immokalee is southeast of Fort Myers.

I'm praying that Adji is found today.

IMMOKALEE — It’s a community that’s been at the center of national media reports since 6-year-old Adji Desir went missing last weekend in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee.

But what is Farm Worker Village?

To outsiders it’s just government-subsidized housing.

Yet to the community’s residents, it’s home and a safe haven.

“It’s a neighborhood,” said Jean Blanchard, 42, a resident of the village for eight years. “It’s a community.”

Opened in 1974 as farm labor housing, Farm Worker Village has grown from the 150 original units in the first phase of construction to 641 units spread through five phases. The last homes were built in 2001.

And no, the village isn’t a hotbed for illegal immigrants. (Much of Immokalee is though given the lower rates and the farms, which is a concern.)

Renters at Farm Worker Village, which is operated by the Collier County Housing Authority in Immokalee, must be citizens or permanent residents. Legal temporary guest workers aren’t allowed to live there.

And that helps strengthen the feeling of community. That feeling was evident one day late last week as kids played along Chadwick Circle in the village.

Among them were Blanchard’s three boys, Junior, 11; Ernesto, 9; and Ted, 4.

The youngest arrived from Haiti on Monday with Blanchard’s wife, Marie, 40, after years of going through the legal immigration process.

Blanchard’s relief and happiness were evident as he described what a normal weekday would be like for his kids.

Homework will get done right after school, he said, and only after the work is done can they have some fun.

“My wife does not play,” Blanchard said with a grin.

Through the eight years he’s lived in the U.S., all in Collier County, Blanchard said the connection felt by residents has remained the same in Immokalee and at the village.

“I don’t think I want to go anywhere else,” Blanchard said.

Blanchard’s next-door neighbor, Camilo Martinez, moved in five months ago with his family.

The move was like coming home, said Martinez, 37.

Born in Naples, and raised in Immokalee, Martinez said the moment he got his driver license he’d drive over to the village to visit friends and family.

He agreed with Blanchard in saying that the “neighborhood feeling” has not changed.

“We all know all our neighbors,” Martinez said.

Both said Adji’s disappearance has shaken the community and that it’s not a reflection of how the community has been all these years.

“This has never happened,” Martinez said of security for village residents.

But like other areas of Collier County, Farm Worker Village has changed in recent years.

Esmeralda Serrata, the Collier County Housing Authority’s executive director, said the village has undergone changes during the past 8 to 10 years.

“The biggest change we’ve seen is the demographics of our population,” said Serrata, who has been with the agency for 20 years. “Now we serve a larger percentage of Haitian Creole families.”

When it opened nearly 35 years ago, the majority of the population living in the housing was of Hispanic origin, which included Mexicans, Guatemalans, Hondurans, Puerto Ricans and others.

What hasn’t changed, however, is the bond the residents feel.

Serrata said the village has maintained a sense of family as it has grown— something the development shares with Immokalee.

“There is a sense of community,” said Serrata, who smiled as she called the village close-knit. “They all live here, they all live close by and they know that they have to live together.”

And many former village residents still maintain ties to their old stomping grounds.

“A lot of families have transitioned and have gone on to home ownership,” Serrata said. “But there’s always some connection to the people that lived here.”

In the morning, it’s not uncommon to spot village residents giving each other a ride to work or into town ... it’s just what they do.

Another typical sight occurs when Village Oaks Elementary starts and ends its school day across the road from the village.

Throngs of neighborhood kids make their way to and from the school, slightly somber in the morning and more laughingly in the afternoon.

Overall, Serrata said, there’s a common feeling of respect and humbleness among the village residents.

It’s something else that makes the community stand out, she said.

“There’s a sense of appreciation,” Serrata said, adding that many of the village’s residents have come from difficult situations in their native lands, including the political and economic turmoil in Haiti. “They’re just thankful. What’s important to us is not necessarily important to them.”

Barbara Mainster, executive director of the Redlands Christian Migrant Association, said the professional make-up of the village’s population also has changed.

“It has changed in that there are more seasonal farm workers there instead of migrant workers,” Mainster said in an interview Friday. “There’s a lot of packing house workers.”

The association has two separate day-care centers in the community, the first of which opened in 1975, Mainster said.

“They’re hard-working families,” Mainster said. “It’s really a neighborhood community, that’s why this has been so shocking.”

Serrata echoed that sentiment and added that a lot of the village’s families never before had to worry about their children’s safety.

That changed when news of Adji’s disappearance spread through the development.

As of week’s end, the search for Adji continued.

“Everyone is fearful,” Serrata said.

But through it all, Serrata said the residents have come together to help the authorities try to find one of their own.

“It’s a member of the community,” Serrata said. “It’s personal to them.”

This story is breaking my heart.  I used to teach Special Ed for k-2 grades.(before kids).  This little guy would have been one of mine.  I pray for his safety and his homecoming.  I pray for his mommy and step dad and grandma especially, as he was in her charge at the time.  May Jesus protect him.

Its been a long day for me so far, my hubs was taken to the emergency room for poison ivy as it had made its way into an open wound he recieved in the search.  He was given a shot and antibiotics and steroids, was told he has a staff infection on top of the poison ivy within his system.  We were not aware of his deathly allergic status against PI...given these types of elements I am in constant prayer for Adji and wish him to come home soon. 
America's Most Wanted is to air the search for Adji tonight on the show.  The public attention is awesome!

Its about Adji, and I am so excited that this story is getting the attention it deserves.  I hope that whoever has taken him, if that is the case, comes forward and gives the child back to his family.
Two little girls made the news last night giving their account of their last sights of Adji walking down the street towards one of the bridges over a canal.  Much of the waters and lakes have been searched by boats and FFAWL.

Dolce~make sure hubby follows thru on ALL the antibiotics, staph infections can become VERY serious, and you and the babes need to take it easy. Don't overdo anything. It was a Saturday. Have they interviewed the families there as to who had relatives or friends visit that weekend ? Someone who used to live there recently who wouldn't stick out ?

I had so hoped that poor little Adji would be found by now. My prayers are with his family, and I hope that tomorrow is the day he is brought home. This is so sad!

A week later, the search for missing Adji, 6, continues, new initiatives begin
 
A week after 6-year-old Adji Desir went missing in Immokalee, more than 50,000 fliers were distributed by the U.S. Postal Service and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and he was featured on the television program "America's Most Wanted."

The search for Adji took a new direction Saturday with the help of local, state and national partners, Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said during a press conference at the Immokalee Community Park.

Saturday night, the 9 p.m. FOX network show "America's Most Wanted" hosted by John Walsh had a segment scheduled on the search for Adji, a mentally handicapped child.

Through the national U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Postal Inspection Service's "Deliver Me Home" program, residents in Lehigh Acres, LaBelle, Immokalee, and elsewhere in eastern Collier County, Hendry and Lee counties received fliers Saturday.

Other partners joining the effort Saturday included the Missing Children center's Team Adam and Louisiana-based Web code Amber Alert ticker, which can be downloaded to personal Web sites or desktops as a news feed ticker that displays active amber alerts.

Linda Spagnoli, co-founder of Code Amber, said the Amber ticker reached more than 400,000 Web sites and personal desktops within the first hour.

Also on Saturday, a contingent of residents and law enforcement officers once again swept Immokalee and across Southwest Florida in search of the boy.

"We are hoping that today's search will be significant," Collier County Lt. Thomas Smith, who is heading up the search, said at a morning press conference.

A new group of 250 deputies searched a three-quarter mile radius of Adji's home.

Smith said officials also would be looking at sex offenders throughout Southwest Florida.

Adji disappeared last Saturday night from outside his grandmother's Farm Worker Village home at 814 Grace St. after he went outside to play.

"I'm crying every day. I don't ever sleep. I'm waiting for God's answer. I know that he will send my child back," Adji's mother, Marie Nadia, 36, said in Creole during a press conference Saturday.

Adji's mother, stepfather and grandfather, with the help from Collier County Sheriff's Office translator Nymphgamey Oboute, thanked deputies and noted the community support from Miami and Naples to Fort Myers and Tampa. She also thanked the media during the press conference.

Adji's grandmother, Jesula Thebaud, said she was asking God for faith and courage.

"Jesus will find him so the police can see him," Thebaud, 55, said in Creole.

Tips from the community are still the agency's best hope for finding Adji, Rambosk said.

The command center at Farm Worker Village will relocate to the Immokalee sheriff's substation, where there is more support for running databases. Investigators have 168 leads.

Rambosk said they still have no evidence that he was abducted, but the sheriff understands that it could be a possibility.

"We are looking for a positive outcome," Rambosk said. "We do believe that he's still alive, but unfortunately there's no information to support that."

Because of that, the agency has been conducting dual investigations all week, exploring both possibilities.

Deputies have searched all surrounding areas three to four times, Rambosk said.

Once again, community residents joined in the search Saturday by picking up fliers at the park and distributing them.

Fort Myers resident Ashley Medinis traveled to Immokalee to pick up some fliers, which she planned to distribute at a Fort Myers Publix and Walgreens.

Despite officials not having any new information on Adji after one week, Medinis said there still is hope.

"It's just so sad," said Medinis, 30, the mother of three children, ages 5, 4, and 3.

On Saturday, as emergency workers searched for the boy, 150 people joined in the search, collecting and distributing 13,500 fliers.

Among hundreds of volunteers were Farm Worker Village residents Marie Moster; her daughter, Asheline Tira; and friends, Sezutte Albert and Izancia Albert.

They spent the morning walking along roads, including Doak Avenue, Eighth Street South, Colorado Avenue and near the Immokalee Produce Center on New Market Road East, handing fliers to residents.

"It could have been any race. I help because the cops have been looking one week and I wanted to help," said Asheline, 11, who translated into English for her mother, who spoke Creole.

The family has been praying for his safe return, every night since the boy went missing.

Nearly everyone who received a flier from the group knew about Adji's disappearance.

North Naples residents Beatriz Mesidor traveled to the Immokalee Community Park to get some fliers and join the effort to find the boy.

"We just wanted to help out in the community because it can happen to anyone," she said.

Mesidor, who is Haitian, planned to distribute the fliers at Naples and Fort Myers churches.

Later in the evening, deputies spent four hours passing out fliers to vehicles traveling north and southbound on State Road 29, in front of Farm Workers Village.

There is currently a $23,500 Crime Stoppers award and a $10,000 reward from the FBI being offered for information that leads to Adji's return.

Adji fliers with a photograph and description in English, Spanish and Creole are available for print at the Collier County Sheriff's Office Web site at www.colliersheriff.org.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for help in the search by printing copies of the flier and posting them in various communities.

I just spoke to the FBI office in Tampa. They claim Adji has been found.

Father / Step Father arrested??? Agent not sure who was arrested, says it's father figure.

Agent claims this is solved. I am waiting for more info.

Adji appears to be alive.

Sheriff's office say he has not been located.

FBI had another Amber alert this morning and they thought I was talking about that child. That boy has been found. Adji still missing.

Father figure?  WOW!  All I can say is my husband was suspicious of his step-father, but we did not assume nor am I going to jump to any conclusions here.

No worries.  I am glad I refreshed and re-read before making my calls.  I am still going to call and see what updates from todays searches I can get, I know that more law enforcement has joined the search and they are toughening things up bit, putting a little more tightening on the screws of those offenders within the areas....not sure what that all means, just what I heard and now read...it appears to be common knowledge.

Maybe I should tell you the reason I called the FBI this morning.

A few nights ago I was watching Nancy and someone on said that the nearest sex offender was .9 miles away. Yes, point niner. I knew that was wrong and I know Alberto Luis Reveron is located in the village. Or, at least he was the last time the site was updated. I know that these sites are updated often and offenders can not move unless they have permission or they become absconders and an ABP is sent out on them immediately. When I saw that the nearest offender was referred to as being .9 miles away I can only assume (I know not to do that) that the info came from the police and they may have missed that. Reporters rarely make that type of info known unless it comes from a police source.

So, as I waited and watched what was happening, like all of you, I wanted to make sure that this person was interviewed and known. So, I first called the sheriff's office and gave them his info. About an hour went by and I decided to be proactive and not reactive and I called the FBI office in Tampa to make sure they also knew of this offender.

As I was getting ready to tell the agent about the former offender, he just pipes up and says Ohhhh, don't worry, he's been found! I said Whaaa?? he HAS? The agent then tells me that the step-father or father has been arrested. At first I thought PRAISE GOD!!... he has answered my prayer.

It all seemed to fit the scenario here, as there is a step-father in Adji's case. I then made the post and said I would wait for more info. So, I decided to call the sheriff's office again and the officer said Adji has not been found.

I called the FBI back and the agent then told me about the other missing boy and the amber alert.

Sometimes even the FBI makes a mistake and thinks you are talking about a specific scenario or person.

Well, to make this long story just a little bit more condensed, I have told the FBI about Reveron and they are going to check it now.

anyway, I hope that explains what happened in a little better light. I am going to take a some time off from MPs to concentrate on some other things, and if anyone needs to reach me, Klaas has my email and so do many others.

I have been told that searchers are still scouring the areas within a 14 mile radius of Farm Workers Village by volunteers, LE, and FFWL.  A special unit within CCSO is currently still conducting "interviews" with those known offenders AND will follow up with those who have records of others with a history of crime.  Counselors have been brought in this week to meet with families and children of the neighborhood, this is to both help with grief and fear, but to also see if any new information can be found out from the final hours that children and adults may have seen Adji. 
The memorial set up for Adji has tripled in size, fliers are still available for anyone who wishes to pick some up and pass them out in an area of your choosing. 

Rob, I had printed out your informative posts, highlighted the names, and gave them along with the link to SM to 3 CCSOers and 2 LCSOers.  I am not sure if this was something that they knew, but each of them took it with thanks.  Of course this was back when they were still searching the grounds, but I have to believe that they did read what you had written.  I hope that they are tracking down each of those on your list and on their list.  This community is truely living in fear right now.
I am getting ready to go out to Immokalee to leave the memorial poster, I will see if I can get any further info.  I do know that vehicles leaving the area are still being searched.

I'm sad that Adji hasn't been found yet.  I continue to pray that he'll be found soon, and that he's ok.

Ground search for Adji to end Sunday

IMMOKALEE, Fla. - The massive ground search for missing six-year-old Adji Desir will end Sunday. The Collier County Sheriff's Office will now switch to a "task force" style investigation starting Sunday afternoon.

Currently the headquarters for the investigation has been in the Immoaklee Farm Workers Village, where Adji lives. The headquarters will now be moved to the Collier County Sheriff's Office Substation in Immokalee.

Investigators will be changing their focus to primarily following-up on tips in the investigation, versus the ground search of the area where Adji lives and was last seen.

Dolce Rob and others good work and lets keep Adji in our prayers! A couple of things jumped out at me.
1) What time did grandma let Adji out to play 5:15? and his dad came home 15 minutes later and they started looking until 7:30 when LE was called? Yet he WAS noticed by neighborhood kids who did not notice anyone. Dolce I think your dad is right the chameleon blended in.
2) How many of those sex offenders speake Creole? I am thinking he may have gone silently with someone who spoke his language if they told him grandma sent me to get you or some such. I think the offender speaks Creole too otherwise kids would have heard him cry. What about American Sign Language? Does he know that? Even basic motioning signs someone could have observed him using?

This offender choose this boy because of his weakness I guess thats why they call them predators ughh. This is so sad. I live in a small town where children are left out to play all the time. The saying" it takes a village to raise a child " is true. If I saw something a child was doing wrong I would confront him and his parents, this sounds like the same type of community everyone watches out for everyone. I pray he is found alive some where, thank you for keeping us updated.

Dolce, thanks for all the pics you took of the area.  I really hate to hear that Adji wasn't located today, and that the search is being discontinued.  I'll be praying that Adji will be found safe and very soon. I can't imagine the sadness his family is going through now.

Yes, I tend to agree with you, and also I noticed that someone could jump on the highway very easily before anyone would notice he was gone. So sad, also quite a few bodies of water where he could have wondered and fell in.

Thank you for caring enough about this missing little boy to try and help locate him.  It wasn't your fault the FBI gave you the wrong info about Adji. 

I did a search using the grandmother's address to Reveron's address on Mapquest and it shows that he lives .65 mile from the grandmother.  I certainly am thankful that you made sure the police are aware of him. He may be innocent but it doesn't hurt to be sure in a situation like this.

I hope and pray that Adji is found alive.

Ground search for Adji called off

IMMOKALEE — The ground search for Adji Desir will be called off as of 8 p.m. Saturday night and the investigation will continue through tips, said Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jamie Mosbach.

“We are following up on all tips and leads,” she said. “No matter how small or insignificant you think they are, we want to hear them.”

About 200 tips have come in since the 6-year-old boy was reported missing Jan. 10. The Sheriff’s Office has been able to rule out about half of the tips so far, and is still looking through the rest, Mosbach said.

The command center has been moved from the Farm Worker Village where the boy was last seen to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Immokalee substation.

Adji, who has been described as developmentally disabled with the mind of a 2-year-old, disappeared from outside his grandmother’s Farm Worker Village home at 814 Grace St.

In the week since the child’s disappearance, about 30 state, federal and local agencies and more than 1,500 people combed Immokalee’s eight square miles and beyond.

More than 50,000 fliers were distributed by the U.S. Postal Service and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Electronic messaging systems were activated, Mosbach said, as well as reverse 911 calls notifying residents of Adji’s disappearance.

Because there had been no indication of an abduction, such as a description of a suspicious person or vehicle, an Amber Alert could not be issued.

Adji’s case garnered national television attention on crime show “America’s Most Wanted” and CNN’s legal talk show “Nancy Grace.”

Iam so sorry he is still missing.  I just hope that whomever has him just really needed a little boy and are being so good to him.  Is that too much to wish for.  Dolce, I hope your husband is better.  I know there is a special place in Heaven for people like you all.

It is heartbreaking to have them call off the search, but hopefull that they have some good leads and are tightening the ropes to bring this investigation together nicely.  I have faith in our LE and will continue to pray for this grieving family.

I have some concerns, have read thru all the posts and am curious about the following things: 

There are three very different accounts as to what happened with Adji that day.  Now I realize these differences may come from confusion in early reporting by media, or difficulities in the translation of different languages, or some other difficulty, yet they are *very* different accounts, and that is what concerns me.  Were the differing accounts ever questioned or explained?   Which is the actual story?  These three accounts are taken from the reports given here, in earlier pages:

1. "The Collier County Sheriff's Office says Adji Desir around was last seen leaving his home in Farm Workers Village around 7:15 p.m.  Deputies say Adji was watching television in his bedroom when he told his parents he was going outside to play with friends.  His parents watched him leave the house and go outside.  When they went to check on him a few minutes later he was nowhere to be found. His parents called for help."


2. "The boy’s mother, Marie Nadia, 36, said she came home late Saturday night to find her family members in tears.  She didn’t know what had happened until she arrived at midnight after a long day at work.  “I just really want to have my child back,” she said in Creole.  The boy spent most of Saturday with his grandmother Jesula Thebaud, 55, who lives in the community a few blocks away from Adji’s parents house. Also speaking through the interpreter, Thebaud said Adji came in and out of her house several times, playing with neighborhood friends and eating lunch with her. It wasn’t until Elant arrived to pick up Adji around 5 p.m. Saturday, that the family realized he was missing."


3.  "Adji disappeared last Saturday night from outside his grandmother's Farm Worker Village home at 814 Grace St. after he went outside to play."

Here's another concern:

"Investigators have learned that the boy is developmentally disabled and functions on a two-year-old level. The boy has a very limited vocabulary. He knows his name, but can not speak it. He understands Creole, but can not speak it."

Other monkeys have voiced their concern on this too, I puzzle as to why anyone would allow a child with a 2 yr old level of functioning to go outside and play unsupervised!.  I realize that it was answered as to the supposed safe environment with other adults out here and there, yet no adult WAS outside during the afternoon who saw him?  I am still puzzled.

And the children Adji was playing with.  The stepfather said “We saw all the kids except him.  We asked the kids where he went and they didn’t know.”  And yet.... There later we learn there were two little girls who said they last saw Adji walking down the street towards one of the bridges over a canal.  Neither of these girls thought to run for him?  To run for his grandma or tell anyone?   

I don't think it's been said in here yet, and I do not mean to offend anyone reading this with what I am about to say.  I feel it needs to be said.  Perhaps another monkey can enlighten me if I am wrong in my assumptions.

It seems to me, from what all I've read in here so far, that Adji was in and out of his grandma's house playing, and ate lunch with her.  The next time mentioned is around 5 pm when his stepfather arrived to pick him up.  Does this mean the grandmother hadn't seen him AT ALL between lunchtime and 5 pm??    ::MonkeyEek::  If it doesn't mean that, about what time did she last see Adji? 

Also of concern.. I've read reports from LE saying that the family members have been cleared of any suspicion.  I assume, from the reports, that both Adji's mother and stepfather were at work.  This is asked in other cases of missing children, so I'll ask it in this one to, with no intention of offending anyone, just my curiousity.  Is it known if the mother, stepfather and grandmother have all been giving lie-detector tests?

I think you are saying what a lot of others are wondering too! Just to add- if he cannot speak his name, there's no way he told anyone he was going outside..

Wyks and Nicnic-  I totally agree.  These are thoughts I have been having as well. 

I get the confussion surrounding the accounts of this case.  I must say though that after meeting this family and speaking with them, there is quite a large language barrier between them and I.  Most of our officers in CCSO are not Creol fluent, heck they are taught the common words of Spanish and have to make due.  The need for an interpreter is needed in these situations, and unfortunately from what I understand at first they were using 5 different interpreters until one issued by the county was appointed and arrived on scene, which was during the main interrogation. 
Not playing devils advocate here, there was a LOT of chaos that came with the frantic search for this child, but between trying to understand the accents, the different interpreters, you have to consider that there was a lot of sorting of facts.
I do know that the family has been cleared and are not being looked at by the LE.  As for his not being able to speak, he does know how to speak some words,  but they are very very limited.  He would not talk to a stranger, per his mother. 
I hope that helps shine some light on this situation.  Our media down here RARELY publishes a retraction, so even if there were corrections made by the LE in this case, the newspaper would not correct previous posts, but rather continue moving forward.  If there were a need for investigation into the contradictions of story, the paper would be all over it as well as our news casts..and of course the LE. 
My hubs is still sceptical of the step-dad, he said that the guy just is questionable.  That is only from my hubs account, granted my hubs can meet a person and tell you all about that person within the first 5 mins of having met them, but I think in this case he has his setbacks due to another feeling and vibe he is getting from the step father.
This is all from what I have been told, have seen, and have witnessed first hand.  Hope it helps.  This family, grandmother especially, realizes that they made a mistake in allowing their child to go out side to play, and believe me this grandmother voices her regret and grief.

Also wanted to add that there are several different versions of Creol.  Just as we have slang, so do they.  That entire language makes my head spin as they speak very fast, very slurred.  I am fluent in Italian and Spanish, other than that I will just look at you like  ::MonkeyShocked:: .  Now imagine and entire community coming at you speaking this loudly as they are all trying to tell you their different account of what has happened and some even asking you questions.  That is what I saw, and that was on day 2.  Press was there from the get-go, hearing all this, taking notes...so I can see why some things are mixed up.
I have full faith in our LE.

It breaks my heart that poor little Adji hasn't been located yet.  I can understand conflicting news reports.  Even in cases where everyone speaks English, there are conflicting reports between different media reports.

I'm sure that LE has the info they need as far as times he went outside and was last seen.  I just wish that someone would come forward with more details on what happened to him, either a child playing there or any adult in the area at the time.

I'm still praying that dear Adji is found safe and returned to his family.

How frustrating Dolce the language barrier and all. I too have full faith in LE and I am still praying for Adji.... is the step-father giving off a nervous vibe or something that your hubby picked up on? I am sure all LE is trained in body language, that tells SO much more than verbage and there are no language barriers with it  ::MonkeyHaHa::. I pray Adji is found but this is not looking too well. Could the SF have sold him?

Reward Offered for Missing Florida Boy

A $10,000 reward has been offered and the FBI has entered the case of a 3-year-old Florida boy who has been missing since January 10. Adji Desir disappeared from outside his grandmother's house in Farmworker's Village in Immokalee while playing with other neighborhood children.
A massive search by up to 150 law enforcement officers using dogs and helicopters has not turned up any clues.

Collier investigators follow up on leads

Investigators for the Collier County Sheriff's Office continued Monday to follow up on leads in the search for a missing Immokalee 6-year-old boy.

Perhaps this has been answered and I missed it. If he was outside playing with other children did the children see him wander off or anyone around him? And when was he last time the Grandmother checked on him?

There were 2 girls who came forward and said they last saw Adji walking away from the group down the road, which she motioned towards the bridge over the canal.  Neither of the girls recalled seeing him after that.
The Grandmother claims that she last had spoken to him around 5:30pm when he was coming in and out of the house.  He initially went out to play around 5:20pm.

I am praying for you too.  I feel you are still alive and someone has you.  They think they love you more than your parents but they are selfish and dont want to give you up.  Praying for God to talk to their hearts and return you to your parents. 

I have been checking here every chance I get.  Please, God, let this child come home.

Just stopping in to see if there is any news.  I was out sick all week and am just catching up.  I hope Adji can be found soon.  Dolce ~ thank you for everything you and your family have been doing to find Adji. 

I do not believe that Tim was called in on this one, I have given TES's information and contact information to several individuals high up in CCSO as well as to the grandmother of Adji.  (She was most concerned of what it would cost and was shocked when I told her that he did it as a volunteer type thing.)  I am going to assume he has not yet been called as they do not believe that Adji is out in the eliments, but rather has been snatched away.

To give some insight on where this community is located, it is near the corner of 2 main backroad highways, both are traveled most by truckers, and this community thrives on their agriculture and casino, so its heavily traveled by truckers for loads of produce as well as the many different people who frequent the casino.  (I know an odd mix)  This is not a gated community, but it looks more like what some would consider "slums", it is government housing and I think that should pretty much sum it up.

The 2 girls who last noticed Adji said he was walking away from the group by himself, the girls noticed him no more after that.

IMMOKALEE: The week-long search for a missing Immokalee boy is entering a new phase.


The Collier County Sheriff's Office is ending its ground search for 6-year-old Adji Desir.

At 1:00 p.m. Sunday, deputies say they will break down the mobile command unit set up in Immokalee's Farm Worker Village since Adji was last seen there January 10.


"The search is not over. It's just changing its method of operation. We've searched the ground now. We need to search information," says CCSO Lt. Tom Smith.


A task force with officers from the sheriff's office, FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement will take over the investigation into Adji's disappearance, following up on sightings and tips from the public.


Fliers and media coverage, including air time on America's Most Wanted and Nancy Grace, have generated more than 200 tips.

None of the information turned into significant leads for investigators.

Authorities still don't know if Adji was abducted or just wandered off while playing outdoors.


The reward for information that leads to Adji's return is $33,000.

Florida-3 Airboat Search and Rescue Team Assists in Search for Missing Immokalee Boy

TAMPA, FL, January 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fifteen members of the Florida-3 Airboat Search and Rescue Team, accompanied by members of the Tampa Bay Search and Rescue Team, assisted the Collier County Sheriff's Department in a 7-day search for six-year old Adji Desir.

The two teams equipped with airboats, all-terrain vehicles, a 6-wheel amphibious unit, side-scan sonar, underwater video cameras, two-way radio communications, satellite mapping and search dogs expended over 750 man-hours in the search.

During the weeklong search, FL-3, under the leadership of Captain Kevin Roderiques and the Tampa Bay Search and Rescue Team searched lakes, canals, marshes, woodlands, farmlands and pastures for any trace of Adji Desir.

Utilizing an amphibious unit, side-scan sonar and underwater cameras, FL-3's marine unit searched 1,500 acre Lake Trafford for the missing boy, while the Tampa Bay Search and Rescue team, other members of the FL-3 Team assisted the Collier County Sheriff's Department deputies in a ground-search on foot, and utilizing all-terrain vehicles.

After an exhausting seven days, with no stone left unturned and many areas having been searched, re-searched and re-searched again, by both humans and scent dogs, the Collier County Sheriff's Department suspended the ground search on Saturday, January 17th pending further developments.

Should further leads develop and assistance is needed, Florida-3 Airboat Search and Rescue is prepared and willing to respond.

Reward to find missing 6-year-old boy

The FBI is contributing $10,000 to the reward being offered for information leading to the recovery of a missing 6-year-old boy who might be in the Miami area, authorities said Friday.

Adji Desir was last seen Jan. 10 playing outside his house in Immokalee. He was wearing a blue-and-yellow T-shirt, blue-and-yellow shorts and black-and-gray sneakers.

Adji is mentally disabled and functions at a 2-year-old level, with very limited vocabulary.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office and Crime Stoppers of Southwest Florida have offered $13,000, bringing the total reward to $23,000.

The FBI has assigned agents to assist with the investigation and deployed the FBI Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team, several behavioral analysis experts, polygraph support and victim witness assistance resources.

I have mentioned several times on this thread that there has been NO MENTION of Adjir on our local news here in South Florida. If it were not for Dolce's posts -- I would not have heard about this.

I heard the first mention yesterday on the 6 oclock news.

It was mentioned that LE thought there was a 'possibility' he might be here in Miami.

The only Haitian population larger than Miami is in Haiti. There is an area of Miami known as 'little Haiti' -- and they JUST got around to mentioning it and showing Adji's picture.

January 23rd -- the first mention of this missing child in our area on mainstream TV news.(I would not be aware if there are special tv or radio stations that cater to our Haitian community in patois).

We are less than a 2 hour drive from the area he went missing from -- we have the second largest Haitian population in the world -- and they have shown this story only twice -- both times yesterday January 23.

This was a fundamental ERROR in strategy, imo.  Who is in charge of this case? Local LE? FBI?

This baby is gone for 2 weeks before there is even a mention on the Miami news  ::MonkeyWaa::

Very sad.

Unfortunately I have no new news on Adji.  I so wish I did.  I had lunch late afternoon with my family so I took the oportunity to try and pick my fathers brain a bit on the Adji case.  He could not disclose much of anything to me, he gave me his usual speech of protecting the case and the evidence, as that is one of their oathes, among many, that they take. 
I was granted just one tidbit of info, and that was that there have been valid tips given to the LE and that several leads have been and are being persued in the search for Adji. 
I asked point blank, do they believe him to still be alive, the reply that I got was a "yes" with back up explanation that the LE and media made it a point in their coverage to reitterate that Adji is mentally disabled with the mind of a 2 year old and the lack of speech developement. This was done mainly in an attempt to let those that have taken him (if that be the case, which they believe it is) to let them know that they do not have to silence or harm the child.
I hope that this helps given the lack of media exposure and news.  I wish I could have gotten more, but believe me what info I was able to get from my dad is honestly like getting blood from a turnip.

New leads in seach for missing 6-year old

2,000 copies of a new full page color poster will help get the word out to keep looking for missing Adji Desir. The 6-year old vanished from Farm Workers Village in Immokalee on January 10th. The fliers will go to the East Coast. Haitian communities in Miami and Fort Lauderdale will to post the fliers their neighborhoods.

  Lead Investigator Lt. Tom Smith says, after halting the ground search, now his team is filtering through 500 tips. "We've had tips that cover everything from you need to look in the trunk of a red truck to I've had visions of a house with 666. You have to take each one very seriously."

  What continues to make this case so difficult is direction. Did Adji wander off or did someone take him? Lt. Smith says, "now we are spending time looking at people, at vehicles and doing analytical checks."


  Investigators have re-interviewed the children, some as young as 5-years old, Adji was last seen playing with. Farmer Workers Village only has one way in and one way out. It is very normal for parents to let their kids play outside- even late at night.

  With Adji's developmental disability, he might not be able to explain to someone he is lost or in danger. "Where a child might say, 'this is not my dad' or 'this is not my mom', he might not be able to articulate that," says Lt. Smith

  Collier County Sheriff Office sergeants, patrol officers, and members from the FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement are dedicated full time to the Immokalee Substation in the search for Adji.

  Lt. Smith said there are no similarities to the case of missing Fort Myers child Baby Byran. Baby Bryan's parents first reported a woman kidnapped him, but later investigators determined the parents gave the child back to smugglers.

  The Adji's family has been cleared of any suspicion in his disappearance. Another challenge, investigators have to work with consulates to communicate with Adji's father who lives in Haiti.

  The reward for Adji is now at $33,500.

  "We've just got to keep going until we are at the right place at the right time and the right person tells us something," says Lt. Smith.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I saw Adji's case was featured this week after "With Out A Trace" as the clip..."have you seen this real missing person" and also I see that Nancy Grace is continuing to keep it in the for front of America.  I sure hope that there is a break in the case.  I find it odd that the reward is now up to almost 35K and still no viable tips.  God bring this boy home to his family safely soon!  And God bless the investigators and lead them to the path to find Adji.

IMMOKALEE: For the first time, we spoke to one of the last people who saw six-year old Adji Desir before he disappeared from Immokalee a month ago.

Life in the quiet farming village seems normal. But people who live there will tell you it is anything but.

Immokalee resident Jasmine Bell is 18-years-old and old enough to understand how much things have changed on just the last four weeks.
"People just more protective of their children," said Bell. "People who used to be out with the little kids, you don't see them out anymore."

A month ago on Saturday, little Adji vanished from Immokalee's Farm Worker's Village and Nagwa McKenzie is the last person he played with that afternoon.

"He said he was going home. After that, we didn't see him anymore," said McKenzie. "He walked off with his friends. He said he was going home because nobody would let him ride a bike."

Deputies and volunteers searched for days, but came up empty handed.

"The Collier Sheriff's Office has received 250 tips leading us in a variety of directions - some to people, some to vehicles, some to locations," said Lieutenant Tom Smith with the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

But a month later, he says none of those were very solid. But 30 leads are still under investigation.

"We have a full-time task force at the Immokalee sub-station. We have six investigators," said Smith.

The team continues to work two possibilities on what may have happened - a mysterious disappearance, or a mysterious abduction.

"At this point, we don't now if someone took him. He could have been like they say, statistically dead within the first three hours. But the likelihood is that he's with someone," said Smith.

Thank you for bringing that over Muffy.  Each night our local news tries to do an update on Adji, however I watch each night as the time slot given to him gets shorter and shorter and the information gets repetitive. 
At the fair this weekend, the county fair, there was a booth set up for the CCSO and Adji's picture and information was featured.  I was not able to walk right by the booth as I had done with the others, it stopped me in my tracks thinking of how this child would not attend the fair, how he was without his parents, and how he was probably very scared.  The girl manning the booth was handing out the fliers of Adji and I took one and thanked her for keeping his case alive. 
I know that our SO is pretty tight lipped, for the most part, but the same song and dance over and over causes my hope to slowly fade, but the thought of Adji's Grandmother and Mother still plague my mind, so in my thoughts and prayers he will continue to stay.
Bring Adji home!

NAPLES — Life goes on in Immokalee.

But as time passes by, Collier County Housing Authority executive director Esmeralda Serrata said she fears people might forget about Adji Desir.

“That’s been my concern,” she said. “This child is still missing. There is still hope that he is out there.”

The disappearance of 6-year-old Adji from his grandmother’s Farm Worker Village home in Immokalee on Jan. 10 shook the small community.

And although the ground search was called off, authorities continue to investigate.

“We are still following up on leads and do have some tasks that we are getting done ourselves,” said Collier County Sgt. Ken Becker. “It’s still an active investigation.”

According to Becker, the search for Adji has spread through both of South Florida’s coasts with detectives heading to the east coast Monday to deliver additional posters to law enforcement agencies.

Becker said the search has concentrated in Southwest and South Florida because of the strong Haitian community presence.

Time however, has affected the pace of the investigation.

“Unfortunately the number of leads have slowed down,” said Becker.

The family however is holding on, he said.

“They’re dealing with the situation as best as can be expected,” said Becker. “It’s a very difficult situation for them.”

Maribel Slabaugh, program manager for the Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Collier County office, said many people in the community are still asking for fliers.

“We encourage people to take a good number so they can distribute them,” said Slabaugh. “Anything they hear, or know, or recall, they need to immediately contact the Sheriff’s office and give that information.”

For their part, the community has continued to keep close contact with the Sheriff’s office regarding the situation, said Serrata.

She added that the Housing Authority has also kept in contact with Adji’s family.

Residents are also being more vigilant, admitted Serrata.

“Prior to the Sheriff’s Office pulling out, we had a community meeting with all of our residents,” Serrata said. “We tried to impart to the residents, at that time, that they need to pay extra attention to their children.”

The caution has led to kids not being let out at night unsupervised.

“They need to be extra careful,” said Serrata. “Not to ignite fear, but in these uncertain times it’s very important that we be watchful.”

It’s something that resident Amparo Diaz, 35, said she keeps in mind.

“I don’t let them go out anymore,” said Diaz, 35, while doing laundry Monday.

The mother of four said that before Adji went missing, she used to let her youngest son walk to Village Oaks Elementary alone.

“Now I walk with him,” said Diaz. “To be safer.”

Through it all, she said she could only imagine the grief Adji’s mother is going through.

“I pray to God that he is alright,” said Diaz, whose kids knew Adji from when they played in the community’s park. “When a child is ripped from the mother, the mother suffers.”

Four year resident Horcene Louise, 30, said some things have remained the same in Farm Worker Village, but that people are being more careful.

“We’re watching the kids,” he said adding that the neighbors are making an effort to look out for each other.

Louise said that it was especially true of the village’s Haitian community.

“The community is like a family,” said Louise, while working on a grey sedan on Grace Court.

It’s the community, Becker said, that in the end would make the difference in this case.

“We just ask that everybody keep an eye out,” said Becker. “Please don’t hesitate to come forward. We are going to need the community to help us.”

I think I would check on a lady who had just lost a baby or someone who always wanted one and couldnt have one in this area.  It is just my gut feeling that that is what happened to this little boy.

I read this entire thread last night before I went to bed. Where is this poor little boy, Adji?. It was heart wrenching to see the pictures of his Mom and Grandmom. I pray that they find this little boy soon. It is like he just walked off the face of the earth. Someone had to take him IMO.

I posted this on the Caylee thread but I want to post this on each missing child thread.  I am shocked and horrified by how often we now hear of yet another child who has gone missing. 

There's got to be something we can do collectively (in addition to the emails, etc., that we are already sending) in order to push the media to pay more attention and give more airtime to these other missing kids. 

Considering the staggering number of children who are missing right this very second, there could be a whole show devoted to the subject of missing children - with each and every child receiving equal airtime! 

I say we rally together in every way we can to get something like this started.

I am with you 100% Flossy!  I agree with you 100% as well!  Just because the media does not cover it does not mean that the child is not still missing.  Out of sight, out of mind....

I can not fathom the horror that these little ones must face.  Small tidbits here and there just do not cut it.  The pictures of these children need to be in the forefront so that the predators that do this crime are brought to their knees in fear!!  We will not quietly stand by as they continue to violate and take innocents from us!

When 5-year-old Haleigh Cumming went missing early Tuesday morning in Satsuma, the Putnam County Sheriff’s office issued an Amber Alert, though it was unclear what happened.

“We’re currently working both angles — did she wander off, we’re working it that way with the searches,” said Lt. Johnny Greenwood. “And investigators are doing interviews in case it is an abduction.”

Fact: Haleigh is a little blonde girl.

Fact: Adji is a little Haitian boy.

The difference in responses makes you wonder.

Flossy what I do not understand how the Amber Alert system works.
I have had Amber Alerts issued in my area and nine times out of ten * (thank god) Its
a domestic issue *Parent took the child and they are found within hours.
I have seen so many of these Domestics on my local TV. I know that this is a Immediate response from Michigan State Police when ANY child is called Missing.
They issue an Amber Alert ASAP - It goes on all the Highway digital signs - It hits all the local media stations and runs ticker style.

If you were ignorant to Call into to Police " your child is missing" and they issue an Amber Alert...and it turns out to be Hoax -(if thats what some of these LE's are afraid of) Well too bad ...deal with that later. I don't believe anyone would call in a false My Child is Missing...as a Joke.
 
Why is it that in other States the Police have to wait and figure it out - of Should We? Is it not the first few hours that a child is considered Missing the most Crucial - for everyone to be aware " Look for this Child". No matter what the circumstances.
Why they didnt IMMEDIATELY put a Amber out for Adji blows my mind.

However, this guy has it COMPLETELY WRONG.  An Amber Allert was put out for Adji the same day that he went missing.

I will see what I can get out of him.  I really do wish that he would get his facts straight though.  Fliers with Adji's discription and picture were printed within an hour of the report that he was missing and were handed out while the CCSO searched the neighborhood, vehicles, and at traffic stops for vehicle searches.

The Amber Allert was sounded, that is how I was allerted to his missing - it broke into the middle of one of my TV shows.  The way this reporter is going about reporting this is a bit antagonistic, and his responses from the "comments" section are going to quickly turn ugly and into more of a battle than anything else.

Deenie I have sent an email to D Snyder, the same as I sent last night to Jesse Jackson and Kathi Belich.  I also noted to Mr. Snyder that I found his editorial to not be helpful, but to be rather intaggonistic.  We shall see IF and WHAT his response is.

I have no idea who funds this local show on one of our local media cable stations. I am guessing its the county. But we have on a local cable station, I believe its ran once a month. It shows all of the " Most Wanted" in the county. Its a show done by our local county sheriff.

If they can do it, why cannot someone make a Cable show that is National that is strictly for Missing Children. No other topics. NG has covered Caylee since she was reported missing. I think that NG and others in media realize how many Watch her show " For Caylee" only. I would think that someone in Broadcasting would figure it out and create such a show - Missing Children. That it would be an automatic Draw of people to who would watch it.

AMW does a great job on posting Criminals and Lost Children and they have proven that it works - to put these people in the News to find them.

I think that if someone would make a Show of this nature - it would Hinder child abductions and or child abuse. Make it a duel show. This is what happens to YOU if you hurt a child. This the consequences if you take a child, abuse a child, etc....

Inform people who seem not to know reasonable Safety Precautions for their childrens safety " PARENTS" need to be Educated.

All these kids that have been abducted via meeting Creeps on the internet - Parents need to be educated on Cyber Predators etc.... 
Your pre-teen is not going to listen to Mom and or Dad about who they are talking to online.

But I tell you, If they were to  watch reenactments of real stories of Kids and Cyber predators ... It may make your Kid think twice, and maybe listen to Mom or Dad ..

Something needs to put on the Air, our world today and all its technology is a mixed blessing. It allows us to receive instant news, audio, video - and it allows kids to be at risk. Well there is consequences to all actions. All actions cause a reaction. And when you truly do not know who is on the other side .... of the computer, a text, an IM ... its scary. I've read on some other boards that they believe it is the A's over there or definitely A supporters.  I don't go over there anymore.  Too much fighting.

The local news devotes about a minute spot to him each night, showing his picture along with the details of his missing persons report.  Other than that, no news or developements have been given to the public.  I need to branch out and ask my neighbors who are CCSO.  I have asked my father, but he is tight lipped and he is one county over so I am sure much of the news they get if its not direct is mostly just scuttlebutt.

Yeah, this is shocking! I hadn't heard anything of this boy except on this site. So, thank you Dolce for posting it here. I know the Amber Alert is supposed to help (and I am sure it does in some cases) but it seems we don't hear much when it's farther away from the point of abduction (I'm in PA).

So sad, this poor little boy can't even speak for himself and now no one else is.  All of the emails I sent have gone unanswered.  In Oregon, other than JVM and Nancy Grace we get no coverage of missing children in other states at all.  Even Caylee Marie was out of our news in weeks.  Thank you Dolce for at least trying to keep us updated, I don't know of anything else to do.  Surely the LE has not given up on him.  My prayers are with you Adji and his family, I have not given up.

Brent Batten: Abducting a child a profile in cowardice

If this were TV, we’d have a profile.

We could reasonably assume whoever took Adji Desir lived in a certain place, came from a particular background, worked in a specific field.

But this isn’t TV.

So we know next to nothing about who took Adji, assuming he was taken at all.

The Sheriff’s Office continues to look at the dual possibilities that he either wandered off or that someone carried him off.

But after a ground search involving trained tracking dogs and hundreds of people covered eight square miles in and around Immokalee, it becomes increasingly improbable the 6-year-old with the mental capacity of a 2-year-old managed to end up in some unreachable spot on his own.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Karie Partington says family members aren’t under suspicion in the disappearance.

That leads inexorably toward the conclusion that Adji was taken by a stranger. And that in turn leads to the sad realization that the case is unlikely to have anything approaching a happy ending.

Mark Safarik is a retired FBI agent who served with the bureau’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, the profilers depicted in the movie “Silence of the Lambs” and the TV show “Criminal Minds.” He is now one of the principals of Forensic Behavioral Services International, a security firm based in Fredericksburg, Va.

Based on a summary of the known facts in Adji’s case, Safarik said there doesn’t appear to be enough information for investigators to put together a profile of a perpetrator.

Adji disappeared from outside his grandmother’s home in Farm Workers Village on Jan. 10. It had been about 30 minutes since she last saw him.

No witness has come forward, leaving investigators with little to go on. “You don’t even have a crime scene,” Safarik said, outlining the obstacles detectives face.

Safarik isn’t quick to embrace the concept of stranger abduction. “True stranger abductions, those are pretty rare, even though people think they’re not,” he said. But the use of dogs in the search reduces the chance that the boy ended up in a well, a pond or in some other place where human searchers wouldn’t find him, he acknowledged.

While immediate family members have been cleared of suspicion, Safarik says detectives should, and probably will, look at extended family and connections for a possible motive behind the disappearance.

The case of Baby Bryan in 2006 in Fort Myers comes to mind. The month-old baby was taken from his mother at knifepoint, apparently by strangers. A theory developed later held that the boy was taken because his parents owed money to smugglers who had brought them into the U.S. The case remains unsolved. Initially, sheriff’s deputies said the immigration status of Adji’s parents was not part of their investigation. On Wednesday, Partington, asked if family issues might be a factor in Adji’s disappearance, said, “Nothing is leading us in that direction.”

Abduction by a total stranger is a long shot, largely because of the short time window in which Adji disappeared, Safarik said. Assuming it is the case though, the outlook is grim. “If it is a stranger abduction, it’s really bad for the kid. The statistics are not good,” Safarik said.

In the majority of stranger abductions, the child is killed within three hours of the abduction. More than 90 percent are killed within 24 hours, he said.

Little can be known about the perpetrator without witnesses or a crime scene, Safarik said.

He most likely had fantasized about taking a child previously and may have even done it. He had some reason to be in the area, either living there, working there or having occasion to travel through there. “He’s not saying, ‘Let me just drive around in places I don’t know and look for a child.”’

He acted on strong impulse.

“It’s risky, taking a child. He doesn’t know he won’t be witnessed. He recognizes it’s risky and disregards the risk.”

If custody issues aren’t in play and if there’s no demand for ransom, chances are the boy was a victim of sexual assault. Children as old as 6 aren’t taken by someone who wants to raise them as their own, as infants sometimes are, Safarik said. Adji’s developmental disability probably didn’t make him more of a target, as just about any 6-year-old would be highly vulnerable and a low risk for resistance or escape.

Rewards offered for Adji’s safe return total more than $30,000 but Safarik says rewards rarely work in cases of child abduction.

The sheriff’s investigation is now focused on following up on tips from the public. “Any searches (from now on) would be targeted based on leads,” Partington said.

“He didn’t just vanish into thin air. There’s some explanation,” Safarik said.

The case of Adji Desir, the Immokalee boy who vanished from his grandmother’s Farm Worker Village home on Jan. 10, is slated to get some much-needed national attention.

On Friday a crew from America’s Most Wanted made the rounds in Immokalee, talking with the family of the developmentally disabled six-year-old and Collier County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tom Smith of the Special Crimes Bureau for a segment scheduled to air on Feb. 28.

Adji’s disappearance was initially profiled on the show on Jan. 17.

“We take a local story and make it national,” said America’s Most Wanted producer Cindy Anderson. “We’re just hopeful that this little boy can be found. My heart goes out to that mother and grandmother.”

But the follow-up visit by America’s Most Wanted also sparked rumors that the multi-agency task force searching for Adji would be disbanded in two weeks.

According to Collier County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kristy Lester, that story was not true.

“The task force is not being disbanded at this time,” Lester said.

Headed by the Collier County Sheriff’s office, the multi-agency task force includes agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

“We are going to continue to follow whatever leads come our way,” said Lester.

According to Sheriff’s officials, although the ground search for Adji was called off a few weeks ago, the investigation into his disappearance continued and spread through both of South Florida’s coasts soon after he went missing.

However, as is the case with most missing children’s cases, the search has to expand.

“Getting the information out on a wide scale, be it state, nationally or globally is critical,” said Special agent Dave Couvertier, spokesman for the FBI’s Tampa field office, which covers Collier County. “We’ve had situations like that, where we’ve recovered children in other parts of the United States and even other countries.”

Couvertier said the involvement of nonprofit groups and shows like America’s Most Wanted helps immensely.

“All we want is the information,” said Couvertier. “All we want to do, is bring Adji home.”

Anderson said she hopes that someone will see the segment and call in the tip that breaks the case wide open.

“You never know who is watching,” said Anderson adding that depending on the case, the show gets thousands of tips following a broadcast. “All we need is one good tip to find this boy.”

A $23,000 Crime Stoppers reward, a $10,000 FBI reward and $5,500 community collected reward are being offered for information leading to the whereabouts of Adji.

This is all just so disturbing. Someone had to see something! I hope and pray he is still alive. Have they checked all relatives? Dolce, did you ever hear back from Rev. Jackson? Anyone like that? 

No one other than Kathy Belich.  We will be going to Immokalee tomorrow to place flowers and home made drawings at his memorial that my siblings drew this week.  My 9 y/o sister is quite certain that he will be coming home soon, she "just knows it" she says.  They also made drawings for Adji's grandmother and mother, my father is going to drop them off for them so that we do not disturb.
The town has not moved on from this, he is not forgotten, and his fliers are still up throughout Naples even.  It is not possible that there is not someone out there somewhere that did not see something or someone take Adji or even know where he went.

Adji's mom speaks for the first time

IMMOKALEE: Searchers have been looking for 6-year-old Adji Desir since Sunday night. Wednesday night, the search focused on the tons of trash deputies prevented sanitation workers from collecting.

For the first time since Adji went missing, we were able to speak to the boy's mother through a translator. She told us how Adji is her only son.

"She hopes God will make her find the kid," the translator explained. "She thinks someone took the kid because of all the effort to find him and not one trace."

Wednesday the number of searchers was reduced to around 100 instead of the 150-200 of the past few days.

A group of former homicide and cold case investigators, called Team Adam, showed up to assist in the search Wednesday. The group regularly works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children when a child is missing.

Most open areas have been searched, so deputies went door to door in Farm Workers Village getting the names of the residents in each home and interviewing them, according to Lt. Tom Smith of the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

"A very complex neighborhood canvas, the neighborhood has been cleared," said Smith.

Because most open areas have been searched, the dual investigation – covering possibilities Adji either wandered off or was abducted – has shifted a little more towards the possibility he was abducted.

Deputies are still asking residents to check around their property, in trash bins, ditches, etc. to see if the boy, who is developmentally disabled, could be hiding there.

The family has been cleared of any wrongdoing in Adji's disappearance.

Despite the cold temperatures moving into the area, deputies say Adji could still be fending for himself.

The sheriff's office says they will not give up the search for Adji.

"We will keep the search up as long as necessary," said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk.

Lieutenant Smith has appeared on Nancy Grace's show on CNN Monday and Tuesday evenings. He will also appear on her show tonight.

Anyone who has seen Adji is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-780- TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for the increased reward of up to $6,500.

I still think that Adji was not being supervised at all, despite what family members say.  I'm thinking he wandered off while no one was paying attention to him.  I base my thinking on the fact that there have been differing stories from family members.  I've read that LE has cleared the family, and honestly don't know how they could have when the family couldn't get their stories straight from the start. 

Some psychics are saying that Adji wandered off and spent some time in a drain (like a culvert) keeping warm, a stray dog with him.   

I have offered up info of the disappearance of Adji to a friend who has capabilities to stir up some Media. He has Media contacts and etc ...and does a broadcast internet show with others online.

He contacted me two days ago and said that HE will Do what He Can to Bring Adji back into the Media. He said he is working on getting it together for Broadcast this coming Mon/Tues

I have my fingers crossed.

As I had stated we went over to Immokalee yesterday after Mass, around 10am.  It was not very busy at all, many people where out at church themselves, and the casino was not yet buzzing.

We went by Adji's man-made memorial, my siblings placed their pictures for Adji down and around the area.  My youngest sibling, he is 5, kept asking me to read to him what was written on the posters, as it was written in Haitian and he could not understand it.  Unfortunately not being able to read it myself I had to explain to him that Adji was of a different culture.  From the mouth of a 5 y/o he said "Oh, is that why he is gone?".  I explained that it seemed the reason he was gone was due to a bad person snatching him up.  My 9 y/o sister, who is extremely perceptive and loves to listen in on adult conversation, told my 5 y/o that since he was of a different culture (her words) "thats why no one looks for him any more".  That was a sad and hard conversation to explain to them...and my father was not much help as he agreed that the prejudice society had given up on Adji.

Sorry to babble on...but there is more!

We went down into Farm Workers Village, my siblings had made cards and pictures for Adji's family, and my father wanted to deliver the items to them.  We waited outside as to not overwhelm them all.  My 5 y/o brother got to talking with some of the kids who were riding their bikes in circles up and down the street, so I walked over being curious.
There was one kid who was talking for the group (there were 4 of them).  His name was Jabraugn (sp?).  He was very nice to me, and did not see me very threatening and spoke to me.  I asked him if he knew Adji, he said yes.  I asked him if he was playing with Adji the night he disapeared, he said no.  I asked him if he had ideas of where Adji could be, and he said no. 
He went on to say though that many people within the neighborhood were very sad still and continued to look for Adji in the fields and woods around the neighborhood.  He said that some believe he was taken, others do not. 
He then told me something interesting, when asking him if he ever goes up by the bridge and canal (which is up by the main highway) he said no, that is a big no-no in his house and he gets in trouble for getting near the road, BUT he did say that they all (all the kids) try and get as close as they can without getting in trouble, and that is a common thing that they all like to do when playing outside.
If that is the case, I do not find it hard to believe that Adji was taken unseen by anyone.  That main high way leads out of town and is a back road heavily traveled by truckers.

Super job Dolce and Deenie. After reading your post Dolce, that was the first thought when this happened that there was easy access to the highways there in the area. Someone could have easily taken him and disappeared quite easily. But also I wonder and I know the water around there was searched, if perhaps Adji slipped into the water. Where I grew up there was water everywhere, and unfortunately many children over the years lost their lives by drowning. I will continue to pray for Adji and his family and friends, and hope there is a good ending to this tragedy.

Even though AMW was brief, at least it was out there. I wish they would have spent more time on Adji. Someone has to have seen this boy. I hope and pray he is reunited with his family soon. The mother was so distraught, I felt her pain. She just wants her little boy home.

I am so thankful to AMW for bringing Adji's story to the front lines.  There was a bit of mis-information though, he DOES understand English, he can not speak it. 

I just sent off another email to Nancy Grace asking that she re-show Adji's photo in her program and give information of his case.  Thank you to everyone who is helping to get his picture out there!

ANY attention this child can get is good. It is such a shame that this case has not "grabbed" the media as the others, and I don't know the reasons for that. The family has no money to put into t-shirts and bracelet, like those that were done for Caylee.  All that has come so far has been volunteer and donation. Unfortunately such charities like those that have helped Caylee, Haleigh, Trenton, etc. have not come to the aid of this family, yet....
There was one very small foundation local to this area, their money has been put into the reward fund, as well as the purchase of the discounted fliers made.  This organization is not a heavily funded one, it is more of one that can provide volunteers for searches and flier distribution.

Ok, I am going to start sending out e-mails to the t-shirt co. and see if we can get some donated. I am also working on a website for Adji as well. Can you maybe contact a local bank to set up for donations for the family? Not sure what is involved, maybe I can get with someone from missing kids network and find out. If we can get this set up, I can include it in the website. I know in searching for my brother, I was told to call the bank and set up an account for donations for searching for him. I am not going to allow this family to be swept under the rug. I can not. Adji is a child that needs to be found,just as the other missing children.

I will call to find out if an account has not already been set up for him.  I am thinking that one has not, but I just want to be sure we do not tread on anothers toes with this.  I know that there is a reward fund for information that leads to his discovery, however I believe that would be a seperate issue all together.

Fresh laminated posters have been distributed to local businesses throughout East Naples and Golden Gate Estates.  These people are in for the long haul, however I am unsure who is producing them.  I will see what information I can find out.

Program segment brings new leads for Adji Desir

The Collier County Sheriff's Office received seven new leads into the disappearance of 6-year-old Adji Desir after his case was featured last Saturday on the "America's Most Wanted" television program.

"You never ever know when you go on any show whether you're going to get a lot or a little," agency spokeswoman Karie Partington said. "It's a matter of getting the right one."

The Sheriff's Office also released a new photo of Adji on Wednesday, in which he is wearing the two-tone, blue sneakers he wore the day he disappeared. Investigators hope the sneakers will generate fresh leads.

Sheriff's Office Lt. Thomas Smith was slated to appear on CNN's Nancy Grace show again Wednesday night to discuss the case. He has appeared on the program several times since Adji disappeared from outside his grandmother's Farm Worker Village home in Immokalee on Jan. 10.

The Collier County Sheriff`s Office are investigating all tips that come in, including one tip that police are looking into today. A tip that may be deemed credible.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Their assignment will be to go through all the tips and leave some signs that we`re posting in the stores and when information is coming through from the media.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: A multi-agency task force has been working day after day to find out what happened to 6-year-old Adji, who`s developmentally disabled and has the mind of a 2-year-old. The South Florida community is pulling together, praying for the boy`s safe return, while a $38,500 reward is being offered in an effort to bring out more credible leads.

GRACE: Straight out to Rory O`Neill with Westwood One. Rory, what`s the latest in the search for Adji?

RORY O`NEILL, REPORTER, WESTWOOD ONE RADIO, COVERING STORY: Well, good evening, Nancy. They have had some success in getting at least a few more tips. One of them, a good tip that they`re following. That`s because the case of Adji`s disappearance was recently profiled on "America`s Most Wanted," so they did get at least one solid tip they`re still following through on.

No big ground searches going on. That`s been suspended for about 50 days now. So really they`re just trying to follow up this latest lead in the case.

GRACE: Everyone, this little boy cannot verbally communicate. He has the mind of a 2-year-old little child. Therefore, he can`t even explain to anyone that he is lost.

Rory O`Neill, are police now accepting that this is not a case of the child wandering off, that this is a kidnap?

O`NEILL: That`s really what -- as soon as Adji was reported missing, they spent about nine days doing this massive manhunt, while working parallel investigations, that, one, that he just wanted off, and two, that perhaps something had happened. Though they say if a boy this age, developmentally disabled, as you say, really couldn`t walk away too far on his own.

They feel secure in the search that they mounted on the ground. They think someone else was involved in his disappearance.

GRACE: Joining me right now, special guest, Lieutenant Tom Smith with the special crimes bureau, Collier County Sheriff`s Office. He`s the lead investigator into Adji`s disappearance.

Lieutenant, thank you for being with us.

LT. TOM SMITH, SPECIAL CRIMES BUREAU, COLLIER CO. SHERIFF`S OFFICE, ON THE CASE: Thank you again for airing Adji`s story, you know, keeping his picture in everybody`s mind is very crucial to finding him.

GRACE: Lieutenant, it`s stunning to me that this little boy disappears out of his own yard, his grandmother there in the home, taking care of him. What can you tell us about the new lead that is being researched?

SMITH: Well, you know, to say that there`s a specific tip that has some specific potential, it`s pretty difficult. I mean we`ve been getting a lot of leads. And we`ve had about 250 leads, about 30 of those have been -- are still remaining to be, you know, closed out. From the "America`s Most Wanted" show, we got a few tips and a few of them have elements that allow us to dig into them a little bit deeper.

GRACE: Lt. Smith, tell us again about the circumstances surrounding Adji`s disappearance.

SMITH: Well, Adji was out in front of his home in a community housing authority project that consists of about 611 homes, just about dusk on January 10th. And within about, just a 15-minute time frame, around 5:30 p.m., he disappeared. And we`ve not been able to find any information to lead us towards an abduction or towards a walkoff, so, you know, we`ve always accepted the possibility that it could be either one and we`ve worked both of those avenues.

GRACE: What do you mean by a 15-minute window?

SMITH: Well, he was seen around 5:30 and around 5:45, he was not there where he could be called back to the house and they began searching. And it took about two hours of their own searches before they realized that they couldn`t find him and then they called the sheriff`s office.

GRACE: Who saw him at 5:30?

SMITH: He was playing football, tossing a football with a child about his own age, and then the older brother to that friend came over and said, time to come home for dinner, and they`ve left him standing 100 feet from his home.

GRACE: How old was the older brother that came and got the little friend?

SMITH: He`s in his early teens, probably 11 or 12. I don`t know specifically.

GRACE: So that`s a reliable witness?

SMITH: Oh, absolutely. You know, we`ve interviewed all the children that`s playing in the community. It`s a very close knit community because of the type of development that it is. We`ve interviewed his classmates and all the children that he`s played with that whole evening from the time he woke up until the time he disappeared and he just vanished.

GRACE: So at around 5:30, the neighbor friend comes to get the little brother, it`s time to come in for dinner. They leave Adji about 100 feet from his own home and then 15 minutes later what happens?

SMITH: Grandmother comes out to tell him to come into the house and he`s obviously not out front. And the stepfather had been in the same neighborhood doing laundry down at the local washhouse and had walked up to the house, so I mean, it even makes it a little bit more difficult to know that he was right there and nobody saw anything.

GRACE: And this is a very low-crime area?

SMITH: Well, it`s a typical housing authority unit where people are screened very closely before they move in. You know, it`s a zero tolerance type of, you know, crime community, so if you commit a crime or have associated that come in that commit crimes, you run the risk of being kicked out. So, yes, it is a good-natured community.

GRACE: To Dr. Marty Makary, physician and professor of public health at Johns Hopkins, joining us from Washington, D.C..

Dr. Makary, what is your take on the special needs of little Adji?

DR. MARTY MAKARY, PHYSICIAN, PROF. OF PUBLIC HEALTH, JOHNS HOPKINS: Well, it really all comes down to water. You know, from a developmental perspective, a child like this with the mental age of 2 does not have the mental construct to put the logic together that water that they see is what would satisfy their thirst and they`re at high risk for dehydration.

Also because of their stranger anxiety, they may hide from people actually looking for them.

GRACE: What do you mean stranger anxiety?

MAKARY: Well, they can detach from their environment because they become lonely and scared at an early age when they`re not around their typical environment. So they detach and can really burrow into their surrounding.

GRACE: Out to the lines, Sheeba in Illinois. Hi, Sheeba.

CALLER: Hi, hi, darling. I just want to know, Nancy, when people take these pictures with their cell phones, why don`t they stay there -- I would. If I thought, God forbid, it be one of your children, I would not let that person that I thought was your child away from my sight.

Now, I might have to apologize (INAUDIBLE) profusely, but I would not let them out of my sight.

GRACE: You know, Mike Brooks, former fed with the FBI, you dealt with a lot of tips. Why when people really believe they`ve spotted a missing child, do they walk away?

BROOKS: That`s a great question, Nancy. You know, I mean, I think as the lieutenant said, they`ve had over -- about 250 leads, 30 of them, they need to follow up on. It`s going to be case management and also keeping this out in the public, as the lieutenant said, that`s going to find this little boy.

But it sounds like because of his developmental problems, it`s highly, highly unlikely that he walked away from there himself. Someone probably had to take him out of there because it`s such a rural area.

SMITH: This is a farm worker`s village. It`s a housing authority community consisting of about 600 homes, about 468 are occupied. And it`s a stand-alone community in the middle of a farm field. Most of them are permanent migrant workers. They`re farm hands and they work at the packing houses.

GRACE: Where is little Adji? To Rupa Mikkilineni, our producer on the case in the very beginning. Rupa, what can you tell me?

RUPA MIKKILINENI, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Well, you know, police have a couple of really theories here. The real theory is that he was abducted. I mean they`re leaning towards this. Mostly because they have done extensive searches in area almost immediately as soon as he disappeared, Nancy. So they`re thinking somebody in the Haitian community might know something.

GRACE: And what are they doing about it? I know the entire area has been canvassed. I know they`ve got a lot of press just recently. How many tips did that generate, Rupa?

MIKKILINENI: Over 2500 tips, actually, in the last two months. This child has been missing almost two months now, Nancy. What they`re also doing is expanding throughout all of southeast, southwest Florida, the Miami area, hitting the Haitian communities in those areas, talking with Haitian minister, apparently, they`re speaking with who might be going to Haiti soon and will be spreading word even there.

GRACE: And I understand new photos have been released.

MIKKILINENI: Yes, new photos have been released. One important clarification for one of the photos is there`s a photo of him sitting Indian style, I think, and it shows the sneakers that he was wearing when he disappeared. In previous photos, I think, those sneakers were described as grayish. They`re actually dark blue and light blue.

I check here often for updates, but have to say I have been catching up in the HC & CA sections, but think of Adji often & I now honestly believe there are angels here on earth now after seeing all the hard work that you & Dolce are putting into Adji's case. I often wondered why NG only mentions him off & on, not keeping him fresh in everyone's mind.

That being said, it is so sad to see that the agencies that could be helping with bracelets, fliers, t-shirts are not offering any help & seemingly because his family isn't as 'well-off' as the ants or others. This should be an 'given' when ANY child is missing, not just for those that can afford it.  JMO

I too wonder about him wandering down by the water, but also hope that with so much around their home, that him parents might have taught him something about water safely (at least that's what I am hoping)

Nearly two months after his disappearance and supposed abduction, two questions nag:

Where is Adji Desir?

Did his case get less notoriety than others?

With the continued pursuit and hard work of law-enforcement agencies and TV programs such as “America’s Most Wanted,” we hope to have the answer to question No. 1.

Dissecting the past for the answers to question No. 2 may be less constructive than resolving to move on and tighten local and national alert systems already in place.

We would like to see them built up rather than torn down. They have accomplished a great deal and can accomplish even more.

We can understand the need for separate alert systems for different categories of cases. We can understand why searches for adults and children, whether they are believed to be abducted or runaways, can call for special skills.

We also can understand why there ought to be a certain level of evidence required to trigger activation of a major alert. False alarms can diminish the impact and distract from bona fide cases.

Still, there can be a fine line between bureaucracy and remembering the mission of networks such as AMBER Alert. That mission is finding missing children. That means getting their pictures and descriptions out there to as many sets of eyes and ears as possible as quickly as possible. Delaying any of that can play into the hands of real abductors as opposed to estranged parents using bad judgment for a few hours.

Some of the questions about little Adji may never be satisfied. Some come against a perception of injustice, with Adji being Haitian and other missing children being white and wholly American. Some can never be answered short of turning back time and having the mute 6-year-old watched more closely while at play.

We do not know what if any level of emergency alert could have made a difference in Adji’s case.

Our effort to be a productive fault-finder comes up short. We believe the news media has more to contribute here as a solution-finder. That means working with authorities to issue future alerts and requests for volunteer searchers, or on processes that make spreading bad news more systematic — regardless of how a child or adult becomes missing. All that matters is finding them. Whatever it takes.

Searching ~ You did a very nice job on Adji's site.  I am not savvy in the websites to offer you any help.

But, I would like to add.  Would there be a way to have some donations collected, maybe from the MONKEYS, to be able to purchase some t-shirts, buttons to distribute??

I have no idea what the initial cost would be for a basic order, but I would be willing to donate to help this cause.

I know of someone in TX that does this type of work from her home. I am going to email her and see what she can do.  This lady is HEAVILY INVOLVED IN MISSING CHILDREN.

Even if $1000. was raised, I am sure it would purchase quite a few items to begin with.

We are not dragging our feet on this issue, just want to give an update on this.  I have several calls into various individuals who are involved in the donation fund set up for Adji, getting a call back is taking forever!

I know you have been working very diligently on this case. I know there are legal matters to consider when getting donations and getting t shirts, etc....

Thought maybe a 'private' start for funds would help without all the red tape.

The only problem with that is the legal aspect.  While yes we could get private donations in the name of Adji, we are not in the possition to be the ones to determine where and how the money should be spent, that would be something that the family would pick and choose, or any person put in charge on behalf of the family.
For us to do this on our own, it could put is in a light that we may not want.  Granted there is only a 50/50 chance that it could have negative rammifications, but that is a chance I do not think we need to take on our own.  I would rather go through the propper channels and have all of my t's crossed and my i's dotted than be thrown into a web of confussion fueled by an IRS audit and legal suits because a penny was not accounted for propperly.
Not trying to be negative, just trying to keep us all as clean as possible.  When it comes to money, things can get ugly.

I came in here this morning to make a quick note that I DID receive a call back from someone who is working with the family and who is responsible for the fliers and donations.  I gave her a link to SM as well as the link to the website Searching has put together for Adji.  She is going to further my request and follow up with me in regards to t-shirts.  She told me she would be getting back to me at the latest by Tuesday (ugh!!!)
So here I sit again...waiting!!!  LOL  (Story of my life lately it seems..)
I do want to note that when I spoke to her about how there were people putting websites together and wanting to donate for t-shirts to help get Adji's face out there, she was a bit taken back.  I told her of our daily petitions to Nancy Grace and CNN to keep Adji's story alive.  She gave a "Wow, thats really great!"

I just started bawling. I tried to find some news on Adji, and there is none. Nothing in the past hour, past week or past month.

He is still missing right?? Why is there no news on this poor child?

It is very sad. I think part of the problem is because of the language barrier as far as the news circuits go. We just need to keep praying along with those who have the means and are able to do more.

I wish there was news--looking for and praying for good news for Adji!!!

Dolce, what if we quietly/privately between the monkeys just found whomever was to do the t_shirts and had them send money to cover the cost of t_shirts *to the company itself* instead of it going to one of us and then the company? maybe just order so many and get the money sent directly to the person/company doing t-shirts then deliver them to the person heading the donations part as a donation of t-shirts from the monkeys?

I have just finished some work on Adji's page. Brandi Thank you for the lovely tributes to Adji. Also, Deenie, thank you too for the ones you contributed. Since we do not have many photos of Adji, Any of the tributes that you monkeys make and want on the site, just let me know and put them here,I will snag them and add them. Thank you all so much. Those have made a big difference in his photos on the site.

Oh goodness, I am the wrong person to ask this question too.  I do not know if there could be legal issues with this.  To make a t-shirt we would be using Adji's image, that image is not ours to use, and although the money being used would be our own donated, technically since we are donating it to the cause of Adji, we forego the right to say where it should and should not be used. 
I do not know, is there any legal minded monkey who may be able to chime in on this one?

Searching I will give one of my CCSO contacts a call again tomorrow if I do not get a response from this community organization suposedly heading up the donations for Adji.  She is who I called first for contact information on this organization, but will tell her of the wall I have met up with.
If all else fails I will go and speak face to face with Maria and tell her that we are looking to further the exposure that Adji's case gets and wish to have her aproval.

Just one more thing, would it be possible to get shirts for his family?  When I speak with Marie I want to be able to offer a t-shirt to her and other members of the family that wish to wear them.

Hmmm maybe we can order a few JUST for the family and you take them to the family and show them what we are wanting to do?

If that was the kind of shirt you meant Dolce,maybe Brandi can help design a shirt to give a co. to get a price quote on just a few?? Brandi?

Quantity makes a huge difference in pricing when it comes to shirts.  I order them all the time for husbands company as chlorine eats through cotton t's.

Maybe instead, a mock up of what the t-shirt will look like?  I can put something together on poster board to present to her and show her how we want to do these shirts, and also get her input and suggestions to use.

I think it is a great idea....hmmm what about one of those programs to make iron ons... design the iron on and put on a shirt... or the poster board idea.   just trying to ad some ideas

Thinking about this child and praying for him and his family.

I have done the iron on's before, they run around $7 - $9 for a pack of 5 I believe.  The only problem with them is that they fade extremely quickly and the colors tend to run in the wash.
Shoot me an email and let me know how you want me to go with this, and I will put it together, take pictures, and drive over to speak with Marie for aproval and changes. 
Brandi - could you do a simple/chic 2 color border around the 2 facial pictures of Adji for the front of the t-shirts?
Searching - what do you think of having on the back the words "Have you seen this child?"  Listed in English, Creol, and Spanish and then placing the CCSO tip line number?

Sounds good to me, or "Have you seen me?" it is shorter.  Do we do "where is Adji" on the front??
and maybe include crime stoppers line or Missing children networks number or something.... maybe?

Brandi, I think the phone number and such is going on the back. was in a post on the last page..I think Dolce planned on, if you can translate the "have you seen me", put it in Creole as well as english.

Just want to let you know, I seen the art for the shirt and it brought tears to my eyes. I think it is lovely.

These are looking awesome!  I love the first one with the Rainbow boarder.  Is there any way to get that boarder, with the same set up as you have done in this latest one, minus the flower (thinking of men wearing the shirt) without letters...want to play with some ideas.

I am so sorry Brandi to be confusing!!  I have too many ideas in my head.  I am not use to having to relay my thoughts to people on paper when it comes to designing.

I went by with family today after Mass and spoke with Adji's mother Marie.  I took her print outs of our t-shirt ideas and showed them to her.  Her smile was very large, but she placed her hand on my arm and said "We have been blessed by charity who is already making a shirt for Adji".  I told her my delight in hearing that things were still moving in a possitive manner.  I am going to call around on Monday to find out how to go about ordering shirts so that those of you Monkeys who wish to get one for yourself may do so.
I spoke with about our site here and told her how many dedicated individuals there are throughout this board who have dedicated their time, efforts, and own personal gifts to help find the missing, and to help find Adji.  I watched as the tears began to fall and told her that I did not mean to upset her, she again placed her hand on my arm and said "These are not tears of sarrow, I feel very strongly that my child is alive.  These are tears of joy that there is help to bring him back to me." 
Each time I speak with her I want to say so much more, but my throat gets tight as I get so overwhelmed with grief as it is written on her tired face and in the trembling of her hands as she speaks of her child. 
I learned today that she spends much of her free time at and around her mothers home, the last spot where Adji was seen.  She speaks with neighbors and visitors alike hoping for a clue, an answer, and a sign.  She has a strong determination fueled by the love she has for her son.
As we left she said "Thank you thank you.  From my heart thank you to you all."

Thank you Dolce, for letting us know about your visit with Adji's mother.  God bless him and his family.  Hoping he will be found soon.

We have had a lot of fires around the area lately, one huge one was north of my home in the direction of Adji's home, actually within the outer search rings to where volunteers searched for Adji.  My father was most worried that she may have been panic struck today given the conditions of the weather and the fires, but she was surprisingly calm.
I still get an uneasy feeling when we drive down the entrance street to FWV.  There is something about it that makes me uneasy.  I have nothing against those that live there or frequent there, but without my father I do not think I would venture there alone.  With the mix of cultures that are there, its almost like a small country within our own.  I am very "odd ball" out, but the people are very friendly and wave, and the children are quite talkative and inquisitive.
Adji's "Come Home" memorial still stands, and fliers of him posted all overthe neighborhood, the town, and the county.

I am in a little corner of Georgia, but maybe it might help.

Adji was on my mind, and wanted  I to stop by and see if there was any news or updates.  I can't begin to think how his parents and family must feel.  I pray Adji is safe and can be brought home to his family.

where she does a study of illegals committing violent acts to americans.

In that study...

Schurman-Kauflin breaks down the 1,500 cases reviewed this way:


525, or 35 percent, were child molestations

358, or 24 percent, were rapes

617, or 41 percent, were sexual homicides and serial murders
Of the child molestations, 47 percent of the victims were Hispanic, 36 percent Caucasian, 8 percent Asian, 6 percent African American and 3 percent other nationalities.

In 82 percent of the cases, she noted, the victims were known to their attackers.

"In those instances, the illegal immigrants typically gained access to the victims after having worked as a day laborer at or near the victims' homes," she says. "Victims ranged in age from 1 year old to 13 years old, with the average age being 6."
