Man convicted in Fla. teen's bus stop abduction

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- A jury has convicted a 24-year-old man of armed kidnapping with a firearm in the abduction of a teenage boy from his bus stop in southwest Florida two years ago.

Jurors deliberated for about three hours Thursday before convicting Vicente Beltran-Moreno. Beltran-Moreno, who had fled to Mexico after the abduction, could face life in prison.

On Wednesday, Clay Moore testified about being forced into a truck, bound to a tree and abandoned in the woods. Moore was 13 years old at the time and says he used a safety pin to cut through the shoelaces used to bind him.

Prosecutors had said DNA found at the scene linked Beltran-Moreno to the crime. Investigators had said the kidnapping was random and believed Beltran-Moreno was going to keep the boy tied up until a ransom was paid.
