Update 9/22 :christopher Tiensch Former Telecom. Whistle-blower Ceo Murdered : September 18, 2011
Sep 18, 2011 at 23:48 | Source: Mary Greeley

Update : Information I received: Gary Donoghue was the founder and promoter Of Plus SMS. When Christopher Tiensch was appointed to the Board and became CEO of Plus SMS he exposed the lies that Gary Donoghue had been misleading the Plus SMS investors with. Gary Donoghue was subsequently investigated by the New Zealand Securities Commission and the Serious Fraud Office. Gary Donoghue always considered that Christopher Tiensch had caused the collapse of Plus SMS Ltd which in turn severely tarnished his business reputation. Additionally Christopher Tiensch had been spreading rumors. The Port Aransas Police Department are fully aware of Gary Donoghue and his relationship with Christpher Tiensch and are pursuing this line of enquiry.

Memorial Service for murdered former Chch man

8:55 AM Wednesday Sep 21, 2011

A memorial service for slain former Christchurch man Christopher Tiensch has been held overnight, following his death in Texas just days before he was to take his former New Zealand employer to court.

The US-born 43-year-old was found shot dead with his body floating face down in water in a remote part of St Joseph's Island, north of Port Aransas, on Thursday.

The father of two had been the chief executive of NZAX-listed Christchurch telecommunications company Plus SMS until he was forced out amid controversy in 2008.

Mr Burroughs said police were looking to establish whether his Mr Tiensch's death was related to a court case between him and his former employer.

"We're definitely looking into the possibility of it being related to the court case, but we're also not excluding other possibilities,'' he said.

In a lawsuit against the company, Mr Tiensch accused Plus SMS of fraud and wrongful dismissal, to which the company counterclaimed with allegations of fraud and blackmail of board members.

A US court last month awarded Mr Tiensch a $US430,000 settlement but the money remained in the custody of the court, with a hearing set down for Thursday over releasing the money to Mr Tiensch and his family.

Mr Burroughs said police had exchanged emails with Plus SMS, but New Zealand police were not yet involved in the investigation.

"We're working on the appropriate protocols to do that,'' he said.

You're right Tib!  After reading what you've posted, it isn't very reassuring for stockholders.  Not at all!  I hope New Zealand Police are able to cut through the red tape (protocols) to investigate Plus SMS soon.

A year later, Westlake man’s death remains a mystery
September 11, 2012

The investigation into the mysterious death of Westlake resident Christopher Tiensch, who one year ago today went missing from his Port Aransas hotel room, has all but gone cold.

The 43-year-old father of two and former business executive had suffered a gunshot wound and was found dead on a remote island just north of Port Aransas days after he went missing.

Today, police and family report no substantial leads or witness accounts of Tiensch’s final hours.
 ::snipping2::
A year ago today, Tiensch (pronounced “Tench”) had set out on a solo fishing adventure in Port Aransas, about 200 miles southeast of Austin. By late that night, his wife Dane Tiensch had not been able to reach and and the next day filed a missing person report with the Port Aransas police.

They found his belongings, including his keys, wallet, cellphone and watch, in the Holiday Inn Express hotel room where he had checked in hours before.

Port Aransas Police Chief Scott Burroughs said Tuesday that although the department has worked with other agencies to comb through dozens of potential witness interviews and forensic evidence, it had no significant leads to report in the case.

“As we approach the one year anniversary of the murder of Christopher Tiensch, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Burroughs said in a statement Tuesday.

Burroughs said investigators still await the results of some additional forensic analysis today. He said DNA, ballistic and latent finger prints have been processed, but declined to detail the results of those tests.

“We know that there is at least one person out there with firsthand knowledge of the events that led to the death of Mr. Tiensch,” said Burroughs.“Our team will continue to pursue every viable lead until that person is identified and brought to justice.”

Nearly a year ago, with limited details on the case, Burroughs warned “it could be a year or years” before the case could be solved.

Days after he went missing, a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter found Tiensch’s body floating along the remote southern Gulf shore of nearby San Jose Island, police had said. The body was found an estimated seven to eight miles from his hotel room.

Burroughs had said Tiensch’s body might have been dumped in deeper water far out from the area’s jetty system.

Tiensch, a former executive in the international wireless technology business, had been embroiled in a complex and bitter court battle with his former New Zealand employer. Tiensch went to work for New Zealand firm Plus SMS Limited in 2006, but within two years had resigned as CEO and mounted a full-scale legal crusade in U.S. District Court seeking millions.

Bill Cryer, a spokesman for a Colorado law firm representing the company, told the Statesman last year that “the lawsuits, of course, have nothing to do with the unfortunate circumstances of Mr. Tiensch’s death.”
