Search continues for Sierra LaMar
8:52 PM, Jun 13, 2012

Morgan Hill, CA (KPIX/CNN) - The search continues for missing California teenager Sierra LaMar.

The 15-year-old disappeared in March.

The main suspect, who's behind bars, remains silent.

"We really want Sierra back home with us," said Sierra's father, Steve LaMar.

Her family has gathered enough donations to raise the reward from $25,000 to $35,000.

Money to be awarded for information leading to a successful prosecution, or for her safe return.

Sierra LaMar: Family Increases Reward to Help Find Murdered Teen's Body
 Wed., Jun. 13 2012 at 4:58 PM

Desperate to find their abducted daughter, Sierra LaMar's family announced an increase in the reward for the missing teen to $35,000, hoping it will encourage new information on the case.

Steve LaMar, Sierra's father, told reporters the news this morning before volunteers gathered to scour the area once again for the 15-year-old's body. Police have concluded that Sierra LaMar was kidnapped and killed shortly after leaving her home on March 16. She was supposed to catch her school bus that morning, but the Morgan Hill teen never made it to school.

Sierra LaMar: Anatomy of a Search Day 73

I am very concerned that we haven’t found Sierra. This has to be one of history’s largest sustained searches for a missing person. 7,952 search volunteers have been dispatched on 750 search assignments that have blanketed a 20 mile radius around Sierra’s home and we haven’t found anything relevant to her disappearance.

Last week the terms of the reward were altered to include, “Information leading to the conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the disappearance of Sierra LaMar,” and no one has yet come forward. This morning Steve and Danielle LaMar held a press conference that was very well-attended by local media to announce that the reward has been increased to $35,000. We continue to dispatch dozens of searchers on scheduled search days. They search new areas and high probability areas that have been previously searched. Despite our lack of progress morale remains high.

We have inspired, cajoled, and manipulated every angle that I can think of to recover Sierra, yet her location continues to elude our grasp. If I thought that it would help to resolve this case I would get down on my hands and knees to grovel and beg for an endgame. What is this brick wall that we keep hitting, and what will it take to move it?

The perp and his family have amply demonstrated that they are not criminal masterminds. His claim that he never met Sierra is dispelled by the fact that police have his DNA on her clothing and evidence that she was in his car. His mother believes that he is innocent, but admits that she is not his shadow. To think that he hid her so successfully and kept that information to himself is patently absurd. I think that he has confided his secret: but to whom?

Interesting Kermit - wonder if it's someone using a proxy or someone in the Military not using a military connection?

I don't think it's a proxy.
The MTC at the end of the IP stands for  Mobile Telecommunications Company
which is an internet provier in Kuwait.
Look like the individual or persons went to an internet cafe in Kuwait
They came in to SM knowing what they were looking for because they came directly to the forum for Sierra.
So it has to be someone either sent a link and they copy pasted.
or ????

Interesting too that it's  somsone who uses English as their first language. Although, most of Europe speaks English in Kuwait the first language spoken is Arabic - then English.

 Interesting my dear Watson eh!
Yes, they came right in and knew what they were looking for.

What does this mean?  Someone was looking for that exact information?  Someone in Kuwait?

Yes, the person or persons came directly to the thread for Sierra -  So they had to of had a link prior to entering SM. They used an internet cafe, easier enough for someone to follow up with the cafe owner to search who paid for the computers on that day at that time of day and narrow it down.

Thats why I was wondering if possible it's someone in the military.  Maybe someone related to the suspect?

MORGAN HILL: Family raises reward to $35K in Sierra LaMar case

(No date on the page for the video, approximate date June 13, 2012)

As the time spent searching for missing Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar nears three months, her family Wednesday announced a reward increase and new fliers to aid the search.

Snipped from the video:

Sheriff's office plans to resume searching waterways next week starting with Chesboro Reservoir.
(Sgt Jose Cardoza)
"It's not based per say on a tip or lead that came in on the case, more the dive team and investigators want to send a team out there again to search that water area with the new sonar equipment they recently got."

Sources tell KTVU that investigators have gotten information from numerous tipsters claiming to have knowledge about Garcia Torres talking to other people about Lamar's disappearance.  Investigators will not comment, but the Lamar family and many volunteers say they believe there are people withholding crucial information.
(Steve Lamar)
"We just want them to find it in their heart to come forward.  It's really hard for us because we've been just desperate to find any information to get Sierra back with us."

(see the video for other information)

Sierra LaMar: Dive Teams Resume Search for Teen's Body
By Erin SherbertMon., Jun. 18 2012 at 2:22 PM

Earlier this month, Santa Clara County dive teams called off the search for 15-year-old Sierra LaMar, who police believe was kidnapped and killed in mid-March.

Now, the dive team, which had scoured dozens of local waterways, says it will rescan the Chesbro Reservoir hoping to find some clues that will lead them to LaMar 's body. Initially, police said they would only resume searching for the girl if they received a tip; however, this rescan is not based on any new leads or information, detectives told media outlets.

Investigators "requested the dive team to conduct a re-scan ... with the new Side-Scan Sonar equipment the team recently acquired."

The search will continue through the week.

Sheriff's Office: Hacker created fake Sierra LaMar posting
Posted:   06/19/2012 10:12:23 AM PDT

A Monday night Facebook posting in which missing teen Sierra LaMar purportedly pleads for a rescuer was the creation of a prankster who hacked into her account, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said.

In the post, a Saratoga address is given, along with the message "please call the police he's coming back."

Investigators confirmed the address is real, albeit an empty lot, but that the rest of the entry is a hoax, sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.

Deputies canvassed the neighborhood and talked to neighbors, and Cardoza said it remains unclear why that address was chosen.

Sierra LaMar update: Documents Released, Searches Continue
June 25, 2012 01:00 AM EDT

Sierra LaMar is still missing, but the founder of KlaasKids is taking it upon himself to keep people updated on the search for the missing Morgan Hill cheerleader. Marc Klaas joined the Patch website so as to have a blogging platform for those who are interested in finding this young woman. What's more, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department have released many of the files regarding the arrest of Antolin Garcia-Torres, the only known suspect in the disappearance of the missing teen.

For information about KlaasKids involvement in this case, click here. You can stay up-to-date on all of the volunteer searches for Sierra LaMar via the "local voices" Patch team. This man has been through hell and back, and has done a great deal as an advocate for families of missing children and adults. So following his updates on the case is probably necessary if you want all of the facts as they're known.

Aside from the latest update, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials have released documents regarding the investigation of the Morgan Hill teen's disappearance, complete with arrest information and "statements of facts." What's most interesting about the documents within this release is that the discoveries of evidence differs slightly from media reports. It was earlier reported that the bag and clothing belonging to Sierra were found in a field, but the fact of the matter is different. Sierra's belongings, along with DNA belonging to both her and Antolin Garcia-Torres, in an abandoned shed. That sheds more light on the possibilities of what happened to the young woman.

Sheriff's upgrade sonar equipment to search for Sierra
Posted: Monday, June 25, 2012 4:08 pm

Santa Clara County sheriff’s investigators will be “wrapping up” a water search this week for Sierra LaMar or any evidence related to the kidnapping case, using new, high-tech sonar detection equipment that they have had access to in previous weeks.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza said Monday the county’s dive team was at Chesbro Reservoir in west Morgan Hill, where they used the new sonar equipment starting last week.
The search is not related to a tip or any new evidence, but was ordered by detectives who wanted to see if the more advanced sonar devices would help in completing a more thorough search of the water ways, Cardoza said.
“They wanted to double check to see if anything at all could be identified or located,” Cardoza said.
The new $40,000 sonar system was recently purchased for the sheriff’s office by the sheriff’s advisory board, a nonprofit organization that raises money for police equipment purchases that the county would not otherwise be able to buy, Cardoza said.
The equipment was purchased both in response to the search for Sierra, a 15-year-old cheerleader, and the need to upgrade the older devices, Cardoza added.
The difference between the old side-scan sonar devices and the new equipment is “night and day,” Cardoza said.

Volunteers needed Saturday in search for Sierra LaMar
June 28, 2012

Volunteers are urged to join the search for Sierra LaMar or any evidence pointing to her whereabouts Saturday.

Anyone who is 18 or older with a valid ID can help Sierra’s family, joined by the KlaasKids Foundation, in the search for the missing teen by showing up to Burnett Elementary School, 85 Tilton Ave. in Morgan Hill from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Santa Clara Sheriff’s deputies and divers searched Chesbro Reservoir in west Morgan Hill earlier this week in an effort to find Sierra or evidence related to the case, but did not report finding anything. The sheriff’s dive team initially searched from the surface of the water body using sonar picture devices, and then sent divers in to follow up on some of the images.
