That's good to hear.

I hope her surgery will help her be pain free and more mobile! (Back surgery as I recall.)

JSM,Sidekick thinks Josef is so cute dressed up.
You could see worry on his face today when he did not hear from his mom.Little kids are smart.I just want to slap his mom sometimes.Both of the kids have been through hell losing their dad so young,and I just get so frustrated.
This week is the anniversary of their father dying,but I don't let it show around them.I am always open to talk,but wait until I am alone in the night to let loose and be upset.Sometimes you feel like you want to beat your head into the wall.
I know life goes on,but I never dreamed DIL would wind up in the relationship she has.It has been an adjustment for the kids.Granddaughter told me all kind of stuff last week.I am surprised my hair isn't white.If she was gay/bisexual or whatever she should have figured that out years ago.Might have saved us all some heartache.I'll leave it at that.
I love these kids,and I will be my Tinkerself and go along and try to say things as gracefully as I can.
You know I am praying for you and your family right now.Monkey hugs. :)

You are in my prayers Trimm. I can just imagine your frustration with the grandkid's mother, I would definitely feel the same, and it would be hard not to say something. But then at the same time, if you say something she may keep the kids away. Very tough situation to be in. They are both very lucky to have you in their lives.

Hi monkeys~been out every day enjoying the beach while I can, but HAD to comment, first Mcchrystal tried for months to get O's attn about troop levels etc., theb when he finally met with him McC knew O isn't engaged and hasn't been.......HELLO, it's not like we haven't know this since he was inaugurated, hell it takes him an hour to order a burger and he's not been engaged in the war effort (especially when it comes to taking adive from boots on the ground) and he sure as he77 isn't involved in clean up of the oil spill/containment etc. Sadly we are facing a crisis of confidence in regards to the leadership/lack thereof is astonoshing and scares me to death.

I had to furnish Willy with his crickets...I just opened up the baggie and threw them in! wasn't that bad...couldn't watch him eating them though...son still has Willy's lounge and refuses to get rid of it..even though it is huge and takes up space in their storage area..he must have some attachment to it...now grand daughter thinks that she wants to put a guinea pig in there! DIL is firmly NO!

Oh I know, I would be the same as your mom, then I would be complaining about no calls  LOL It just seems some days this phone never stops, and today is one of those days, when you are trying to get work done.

LOL, she hasn't brought them up to me today, good thing.  That is the only thing we didn't have was a guinea pig, hamsters and mice and rats, but no pigs. Your son has fond memories of Willy and doesn't want to get rid of Willy's lounge, I have some stuff also, that I won't get rid of, but have no idea why. I don't blame your DIL about the guinea pig, lots of hard work, and pigs like to bite a lot I've heard.

My daughter does that to me sometimes too - she calls and calls and calls and it is always when I am in the middle of something, then if I sound stressed when I answer the 100th call she gets bucky with me, sheeesh so I have to be careful and be sure to sound like I have all the time in the world to talk to her.

We did the Guinea Pig thing......my daughter called them Binny Gigs LOL they were cute and all but cleaning the cage got to me after a while.

It never ends, never. When it was summer when the kids were little, it really got to be way too much with the cleaning and trying to entertain them. After awhile you can just see that it is time to go back to school, boredom sets in big time. When I would go to the store and see the school supplies being brought out for the new school year, I would do a little dance with excitement  LOL

Good evening monkeys. Just got home, didn't see the dog around the corner of the garage, he and Josef got into it. Scared me to death. Worried about the other dog. Happened so quick and we got them away from each other quickly thank God. It is so hot outside I am miserable. LOL. Josef got a furminator bath today. He is so clean and looks like he lost 10 pounds. Then we walk inside and the d*mn smoke detector is chirping, he almost ran out the door. So I bashed it with my crutches, it kept going of so I am standing half nekkid from changing clothes climbed on the chair and whacked it a good one. Hasn't gone off since : )

ITA with you GE and if I was McChrystal, I'd resign no matter what-give O a time frame to find another general and this time one that's a p***** and won't voice his opinion about needing more troops etc. McChrystal had to literally beg for more boots on the ground for 4 months IIRC, then got 1/2 of what we NEED. The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, who was one of the most vocal advocates of the dredging plan, has sent a letter to President Barack Obama, pleading for the work to continue.

Nungesser said the government has asked crews to move the dredging site two more miles farther off the coastline.

"Once again, our government resource agencies, which are intended to protect us, are now leaving us vulnerable to the destruction of our coastline and marshes by the impending oil," Nungesser wrote to Obama. "Furthermore, with the threat of hurricanes or tropical storms, we are being put at an increased risk for devastation to our area from the intrusion of oil.

Nungesser has asked for the dredging to continue for the next seven days, the amount of time it would take to move the dredging operations two miles and out resume work.

Work is scheduled to halt at midnight Wednesday.

The California dredge located off the Chandelier Islands has pumped more than 50,000 cubic yards of material daily to create a sand berm, according to Plaquemines Parish officials.

Nungesser's letter includes an emotional plea to the president.

"Please don't let them shut this dredge down," he wrote. "This requires your immediate attention!"

Trimm, couldn't help but think of you and your neighbor...............

Ralph, my neighbor is a "lefty" of sorts ( gun-ho socialized medicine, "guns should be banned", etc.). 

So last week I put this sign up in my yard after one of his anti-gun rants at a neighborhood cocktail party.  The sign wasn't up more than an hour before he called the police and wanted them to make me take down the sign. Fortunately, the officer politely informed him that it was not their job to take such action without a court order and that he had to file a complaint "downtown" first, which would be reviewed by the city attorney to see if it violated any city, county, or state ordinances, which if there was a violation a court order would be sent to the  offending party (me) to "remove the sign in seven days". 

After several weeks he was informed that the sign was legal (by a quarter of an inch) and there was nothing the city could do, which obviously made him madder. I tried to smooth things over by inviting him to go shooting with me and my friends at the hunt club but that seemed to make him even more angry.  I then asked him if he wanted to go to a Tea Party rally but again he declined my outreach efforts to bring about a better understanding between political and social  opponents.   

I am at a loss how to reconcile our long relationship (notice I did not say friendship), any suggestions would be welcome.

I can see how McChrystal is so frustrated after watching what is going on here, the admiral can't even tell us how many d@mn skimmers are in the water (HELLO, THAT IS A FREAKING SIMPLE QUESTION).......the red tape is unbelievable and the non-action is too, so can you imagine trying to fight a war where our soldiers lives are on the line with this type of administration, I'd have gone off too, but it would have been a he77 of a lot worse!

Thanks for the pictures IM, how frustrating. I'm so angry about so many topics, that I have to step aside and breath. The general was there a half hour I believe that is what was said. I'm so livid over these wars, and the risk of human lives that I can't see straight. I'm prayed out with my daughter's boyfriend going over there. I feel just lost and desperate.

He hates it and wants to come home, they were under attack in may and CNN lied about it, saying all is fine, when they couldnt find the millitiants as they were in army fatigues. he works at the big main prision, and has feces and other stuff throw at them, he has told me many scary lifethreatening stories, it scares the chit out of me for all the men and women over there, there families, and it pizzes me off to no end, i will not go there, we are in debt trillions and killing our ppl for nothing

Island  I would be going crazy too. It's sad to say that after looking at your pics that this is our government in all it's glory. Sit on your azz and collect a pay check and do nothing. While the people that are working their azzes off trying to do something gets stopped. It's like they want it to ruin everything, to fit with their political agenda. Instead of doing the right thing. My prayers that once your oldest gets home in August, that he doesn't have to then be sent to Afghanistan  HUGS  I feel very strongly that the service men and women are in terrible danger without any real direction. Just talked to DIL for the first time since Sidekick has been here.Have only talked to other family members.She is coming to pick him up tomorrow.
Great grandparents live behind Sidekick on the family farm.The great grand dad has prostate cancer and is having surgery in July 15th.This will disrupt everything.He spends a whole lot of time with Sidekick.I offered to keep him as much as possible to help out.I don't know what else to do.

I completely agree.  We wanted to see the Blue Collar Comedy group years ago when they were together and they were being sold on Ticketmaster except everytime we would try to get tickets it would tell us no tickets meet our search criteria to try again......I thought WTH I have no search criteria I will take whatever tickets I can get, it was so frustrating - I finally called them and in a nutshell it basically meant they were sold out.  Then why not just say they were sold out!!!  Then there were people online selling the tickets for 3x the amount they paid for them and funny how they had lots of tickets to sell......that is because a select few get on there and buy them all up.  You go girl let us know what you find out.

I spent my 18th birthday in the mental ward of our hospital, I was called a fat pig from a girl at school, and it went downhill from there very fast. I stopped eating basically, and the little that I did eat wasn't enough to keep a body going. They at the hospital didn't know really what to do with an eating disorder in that day and time, and I was threatened with feeding me intravenious means and they kept me higher than a kite with drugs. I would never make light of an eating disorder or a situation where a person has trouble losing weight and exercise. I have battled this since a teen and have never completely gotten over it. So my apologies to anyone I may have hurt.

NoRose, first and foremost any monkey that knows you knows you would never ever intentionally hurt anyone.  You are such a good person.  Second I must say that it is heartbreaking what happened to you at 18.  People are so cruel and I am guessing it was a girl who called you that (girls are ruthless and hateful at that age) I am so sorry you had to experience that kind of pain.  Beauty is what is inside, you are beautiful. But my sister who married a guy that told her he wouldn't be married to anyone fat. Pretty much stopped eating for years. Even after she divorced his azz she didn't eat. Until this last year when she almost died because her body started to shut down from lack of food. I don't understand why people are so damn mean. We love you just they way you are. I don't think any body got hurt and I am sorry if they did. But we all know you wouldn't hurt anyone on purpose. ((HUGS))

Good morning everyone! Just caught up reading all the posts since last night. Good to see everyone, including ScareyCarrie, who I have not seen in a while! Before I got up, I turned on the weather channel and they were giving the 5 day forecast (right at the end) and calmly said tomorrow's high is 105°. As if they were saying, Thursday's high, 75°.

105° ?!?! I know a lot of the US is in the 90's this week, but 105 is ridiculous for Virginia on the, what? 3rd full day of summer? sheesh.

I agree wiht you Green Eyes - I am willing to own and use a weapon - to defend myself, my family or anyone else in danger. I am even willing to defend people that choose to not own weapons IF they allow each person to make up their own mind on the issue. I guess the best way to explain, is you feel you have lost control of everything, and by stopping eating you have some control. No harm done, and yes the world has a very messed up perception of how women should look. The really sick part of what happened to me is that I really wasn't fat, unless you call a 18 year old that wore a size 10 fat, so I don't know. And there are people who can't gain weight no matter what, they can eat and eat and they are still skinny.

All is good Scarey.  I agree, our society is so focused on weight and looks it is frightening, it has become an obsession and it casts an impression on girls at a very young age, it doesn't matter who you are as long as you are thin and beautiful, what ever happened to being healthy and smart?  Sad to say that doesn't make people rich, it is a multi billion dollar industry that has affected so many, just look at the young girls who are having cosmetic surgery in their 20's - that is crazy.  I used to be stick thin and now that I am approaching 50 I have gained my share of weight, lost my waistline and girly figure but I am ok with it - it is what it is.

Two people involved in the Gulf oil spill cleanup effort have died, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.  ME: HOW AND FROM WHAT????? I am out there cleaning it up when it hits....
Meantime, the Coast Guard says BP has been forced to remove a cap that was containing some of the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico.

Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen says an underwater robot bumped into the venting system. That sent gas rising through vent that carries warm water down to prevent ice-like crystals from forming in the cap.

Allen says the cap has been removed and crews are checking to see if crystals have formed before putting it back on. In the meantime, a different system is stilling burning oil on the surface.

Before the problem with the containment cap, it had collected about 700,000 gallons of oil in the previous 24 hours. Another 438,000 gallons was burned.

PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Thick pools of oil from the spill in the Gulf of Mexico washed up along miles of Pensacola Beach overnight.
Dozens of workers used shovels Wednesday to scoop up the oil and orange-tinged sand. There were a few sunbathers at the beach, but no one was in the water.

Tar balls have been reported as far west as Panama City and heavier oil is predicted to wash ashore further east along the coast line in the coming days.

Officials also toured the beach. Gov. Charlie Crist said he called for more skimmers and was disheartened so much oil had slipped through the skimming operation.

Crist said the problem was the vast amount of the coastline that had to be protected.

A boat captain who was working on the oil spill response died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday, the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register is reporting.

"I'm very sorry to announce the death this morning of a captain in the vessel of opportunity program at Fort Morgan, Alabama," the newspaper quoted U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr. Chuck Diorio as saying.

Diorio said the Gulf Shores Police Department was investigating the death.

Another worker involved in the oil spill response also has died, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said Wednesday. No other details were immediately available, but the Coast Guard said it did not appear the death was work related.

Imagine what he'd like to do to us"little people".

A Canada earthquake shook Toronto and Ottawa at approximately 1:45 p.m. Eastern Time today, June 23, 2010. The USGS reports the quake had a magnitude of 5.5.

Northern lives in the western part of Canada, in British Columbia. Toronto and Ottawa are in Ontario, in the east. Hubby is from Toronto.

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was felt in Toronto, Canada and elsewhere in that country as well as in the U.S. on Wednesday afternoon.

The U.S. Geological Survey placed the quake's epicenter about 24 miles north of Cumberland, Ontario and said it occurred at about 1:41 pm ET.

Many people experienced the shaking based on comments on Twitter and elsewhere but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that east of the Rockies, "an earthquake can be felt over an area as much as 10 times larger than a similar magnitude earthquake on the West Coast."

The epicentre of the quake was in Quebec, about 38 kilometres north of Cumberland, Ont., which is on the Ottawa River, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and struck at 1:41 p.m. EDT at a depth of 18 kilometres.

"This particular earthquake was quite deep," said Dr. Alexander Cruden, a professor of geology at University of Toronto. He said a quake at that depth can be felt as far away as 500 kilometres.

Mr. Mallon, a retired farmer who has lived through a handful of earthquakes in the area about 55 kilometres north of Ottawa, said it was by far the biggest he’s seen in his 73 years.

“I was looking at a book when the mirror started swinging on the wall. I caught it before it fell on the floor,” said Mr. Mallon.

“The extent of it varies from house to house, depending on foundations and that sort of thing, but so far it’s mostly pictures and nick nacks.”

“People are a bit shook up because they’ve never experienced such a thing.”
