Did you all see the new postings I made in the Donna Jou thread? Seems the person of interest had a band and also loved "wilderness trails" Malibu State Park.

He could have gone closer for a lake and wilderness trails.. to the Kenneth Hahn Regional State Park only 3 quick miles to his house.

Anything here I should know or about the world I missed?

Dean is going to ream a new asshole through the Caribbean.  Jamaica looks doomed from one end to the next.

If the high pressure system that has been stationary and creating this heat wave in the south east should move eastward, Dean will follow and turn to the north.

Sinclairs were really groundbreaking little machines. Even though their power was very limited, they were incredible little feats of engineering in that they were so inexpensive. I've got a lot of respect for those old beasts. The TI/99s, TS-1000's, and even the old Vic-20!

Muffy, that button isn't for "Reply Print". Reply and Print are two seperate hyperlinks. They are wrapped because the numbers stretch out too far for it to all be on one line when the page count gets high. All you have to do is click on the word "Reply" and you can post as you always do. They look like they're on the same tab, but they are not the same command. Click on Reply and you'll be fine.

I recently bought a Toshiba laptop with 15-1/2 ' wide screen and Intel processor and sent it to Aruba recently. Purchased it new at Circuit City, less than $400.00 after rebates. I did put extra memory in it but it's a great computer and would have no trouble handling business programs.

There is a tool that must be downloaded to do it. It got complicated so I called my 'puter guy and it is now in his shop. He said that was a particularly difficult one to rid yourself of and that many of the anti-virus programs won't hit it.

Oh boy ~ I finally decided to start using SpySweeper last year, and it's worked well ~ we'll see what happens if Spy Sherriff invades.   :roll: :roll:

My good friend that lives in Aruba has been traveling recently.  What was planned as a vacation has become arduous and tiring.  Now he wants to go home and have a vacation from his vacation, but alas Dean is ripping a new one across the Caribbean Sea.

I have more confidence in Beth's conclusions than I do in the slow investigation going on by the Dutch, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised!

Whew - that was fun!

Was able to download and run SuperAntiSpyware on my FIL computer.  After the scan 753+ files found.  34+ were registry items.  600+ were trojans.  All fixed now until the next time, LOL.

Because of the rough seas, a bone has been uncovered at the north side of the island. No official confirmation is this human or from an animal. In the past bones were found that were dated to hundreds of years, and also from people trying to enter the island illegally from the north side.

If you use Internet Explorer, go to the SM Forum index and right click to open in a NEW TAB.  Then you can have a tab open here and another in Natalee or whichever thread you are reading in addition to this one.  Can have many tabs if you have enough memory on your computer to accommodate them.

Then you don't have to go back and forth, just change tabs.  Works great!

Most browsers provide for having more than one window open at a time.  Try to right click on the index page and see if you get that option.  At least, every browser I have ever seen would allow more than one window open at a time.


Doesn't have to be IE to do that.  That's just the one I am most familiar with.

One of them said the LAPD looked along the RR (wonder if the big hole was there then in the fence by the tool box) and said they also went to Malibu State Park to search wilderness trails... ??? oh I was there almost everyday working for 4 yrs.... Just dropping in to check on the latest news .
I notice in our local paper the space craft is being brought back to earth a day earlier because of the hurricane.  Prayers for a safe landing for all.
Have they any idea where the hurricane is headed at present?

Parents had a dampening effect on their children's plans in my day also.  I was not permitted to leave home and live away to study my chosen career, so took up accountancy which meant I could remain living "safely" at home for longer.

 I used to have to sing at school and church.. my  brother and I both, Solos.   :shock: My brother was not shy then .. I was.
 The lights were so bright on stage when I had to sing.. Thank Gawd,. I could not see anyone in the auditorium. Church I got nervous  to sing.. but was up in a balcony..  Not many peope paid attention.  Whewwwwwwwwwwww. My brother and I grew up singing away and were band geeks,, and now, even in our elldery ages.. we love to do Karaoke . He does it wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more then me. My voice sucls now.. vocal xcord disorder BUT I can still sing  :)

Yes, my Dad was very strict when it came to me, cause I was a GIRL ! And, also because I was very shall we say adventurous ?

Yes it was the fact that I was a girl.  Girls had to be protected and boys could have all the freedom they wished.  Most unfair.  Boys were not considered to be in danger in those days. but with all that is now coming to light about molestation from church and school officials it seems they were just as vulnerable.   

Thanks, Klaas.  That is just so sad for the families.  Our local news said they most like would suspend or cancel the search.  What the families would be going through - you would always wonder if there had been any hope.

I trying to determine if Colombo's theory could be correct.  I can't talk Shango in the Shango thread because no one is ever in there so I came out here to find someone.  Colombo is alluding to the fact that Paulus could be the 5th suspect...so if that is the case...then he would have to have been on Aruba the entire time that Natalee was and surely someone would have recognized him that was in her group. I thought he was gone until that poker tournament. Mrs Red - I agree.  Television is also to blame or at least the censors and programmers.  We have shows here in children's time slots that have some very adult story lines, and not a lot left to the imagination.

I know what you are thinking about here Lalas - the MB kids would have mentioned if there was an older man hanging around their group.  I just always come back to Joran's comment to Anita that it would not have happened if she had been there.  She would have been more able to prevent Paulus getting up to any pranks than she obviously could with Joran.

No, I don't think Paulus was the boyfriend but he never went to The Netherlands at all and was home supposedly in charge of the kids while Anita went to the birthday celebration.

What is want to hash out is Colombo keeps indicating that the 5th suspect is Paulus and he is also the boyfriend.  I find nothing else to base that on other than Simian. I have seen us take things that Shango says and Simian too and find corresponding info from other sources to back it up with in reason, but I have not been able to do that with Colombo's theory.

I think the boyfriend from earlier in the week was a theoretical person, a hypothesis, someone they think MIGHT have existed to try to make a theory of ALE fit.

I don't think there was any such person, just a sort of straw person they use to support a theory they have.

Hi there.  I read Tylergal's idea in the Shango thread earlier today.  I didn't comment on it, however.

What I fear is that when the mine collapsed in the beginning it just closed the entire area where those 6 were off and covered them in earth.  They may never ever find anything. And if they did, I doubt there are any left alive by now.  The oxygen levels are way too low.  How would they get to them anyway?  There is so much instability down there now. It's a very sad situation.

I don't always talk about Shango either.   I agree there is a difference between suspect and witnesses. Although, after reading about Dutch law these past few days, I tend to get confused on that distinction.

What is bothering me more is reading that the Prosecution doesn't prosecute unless he/she deems it in the best public interest to do so.

Don't see that ever happening in Aruba.

I think the mountain is indeed collapsing in on itself.  That type of mining can do that if the land area above it isn't strong enough to withstand the stress from the mining. I forget what it's called now...if I wasn't trying to remember it I would know.  When you just collapse the entire room as you are leaving I would think you would stress all the areas above it to some extent.

Well, maybe we need to get Destiny to call the airline again and ask for a head count on Sunday.

But I recall Paulus talking about earlier in the week this and that happened, etc.  Says his wife was gone seven days, not WE were gone, etc.

The Monkey Musings thread was created especially for socializing and general off-topic conversation.

Here's how I explained it last week in Chat: "If you want to talk about what kind of car Joran drives, that goes in the Natalee Case Discussion area. If you want to talk about what kind of car Dugga drives, that goes in Monkey Musings." :)

You are a very nice person, and you have done incredible work for this site, for which I know everyone is extremely grateful. You have tried so hard to give us all the things that we have asked for, and done a tremendous job of it. However, I think that in your efforts to make improvements, you have missed one important aspect of SM.

What has made SM successful in the past is that "stream of consciousness" thing that bothers you so much. When we all get together in one place and bounce ideas off one another on a variety of subjects, we do our best work. That's why people are hanging out in chat now and posting much less. As we keep saying, chat is the new LCD. In there, we are free to do what we used to do in the LCD, and that's what works for us. We need to be together in one spot, not scattered amongst numerous threads.

Would it be possible for the Musings thread to be treated like the old LCD was, and if anything of substance was said pertaining to a particular case, then one of the mods could copy it to the appropriate thread? We have more mods now, so the whole burden wouldn't be on poor Klaas. If we operated that way, then people who are interested in reading only in a specific thread could go to that thread to obtain the current information. People who need their fellow monkeys with them in real time in order to think creatively could have that in the Musings thread.

Please don't be upset with my suggestion. I understand what you are trying to accomplish, and I also know how unhappy many monkeys are at being separated and not able to bounce their ideas off one another. Please help us find a happy medium before we lose a lot of posters.

Why not just have a Lively Discussion thread where anything goes, including the all important social aspect of the forum.  If anything of importance comes up it could point to a more specific thread.  The lifeblood of a forum is the real time interaction of its members.  Take that away and you have a newspaper.

Dugga,  I agree completely with what you are trying to do!  So many times in the past I have had my entire line of thought just devastated by off topic right in the middle of news, big news even, and just given up trying to hold anything like a serious discussion of Natalee's disappearance.

Yes, we did lapse a bit in the last few pages but on the whole, the new format is working really well.   I hope we never go back to the chaos of before as it is totally inappropriate to have lots of things that were discussed under the heading of somebody's missing and likely deceased child.  I just won't do it as I think it is morally wrong to do that.  Same thing Greta does when saying she will have a segment about Natalee then only having a minute at the end of the program.

When people come to read about Natalee, it should be about her and only her.  All else can be here.  And it is working really well so be patient and we will learn.

I don't think that is happening at all.  We are having a little trouble learning where to post what but that will become second nature to us soon.

I think in fact there are just as many if not more posts however now instead of being on one monster thread, they are scattered out under their own threads.  Bet the actual number of posts might even be up.  We don't have to wade through page after page after page looking for the few posts actually about Natalee that used to be posted under her name.

Example of this would be the music thread.  I know some don't want to even give it a chance, but I do believe once we are accustomed to it, we will all like it better.  If not, it's still the right way to do things.

And I really like current events being in this thread.

I'm afraid I must disagree with you and say that it is working only for a very, very small minority of posters. I have heard from many, many people that it doesn't work for them at all. If we were to be free to discuss whatever we wanted to in this thread, and then have the mods copy substantive posts to the appropriate threads, then I think it would work for most people. Those who want to post together could be here, and those who want things very cut and dried could read the cut and dried posts in the threads where they want to read. I'm afraid if things keep going the way they are, many posters will leave.

Posting at SM is a hobby that is done in the free time of adults who can choose to spend that free time any way they want to. When the experiences at SM ceases to be rewarding for them, they will spend their free time elsewhere, IMO. You can't teach old dogs new tricks if the old dogs have moved on.

IBE, if you go to the index page, it shows the last post made.  But I think many are either here or on the Natalee Thread or have a tab open to both at the same time.  Just about any browser will allow two windows open at once.

I do with we had one of those little boxes that shows the last post made.

That would help.  But it really isn't that hard if you keep open the thread you are watching plus this one.

I will lead no more monkeys astray...ever again.  I am truly sorry to have caused all the trouble last night.  My heart is broken that my discussions and only mine seem to illicit such a reaction.  I am getting tired of all this fussing and confusion.  I loved this forum because it was where Natalee was being discussed and everyone was concerned and wanted some answers.  I am the one that started the Shango talk last night. Klaas, asked me to leave and go elsewhere.  I didn't want to because I knew what would happen...I would be talking to myself again.  I am so sorry...I really am.  Let's all just drop it and carry on.  This board is about good things and hopefully we will get some answers for this family and many others. 

Anna - I know from being in chat that most posters here DO keep several tabs open at once. I generally have four or five open at the same time, no matter what I'm doing on the internet. It doesn't seem to be an issue of people not knowing how to open more than one tab at a time. The issue seems to be that people want to be together in one place, not making different posts in different threads.

FWIW, I don't think the conversation last night bothered anyone who was in here ~ the few of us that were  :sad:.  I enjoyed the discussion, as usual.  :wink:

The reverse side of that is all the posters who left because of the off topic chatter in what should have been the Natalee Thread.  I would venture that just as many or more people left because of that as stayed for it.

We lost many very good posters because of that before as well and I have received emails as well from them that they won't try to carry on a serious discussion under those circumstances of having it hijacked by somebody for trivial things.

Maybe some of those will even come back if they don't have to read nine pages with Natalee only being mentioned twice again.

This musings thread can be about anything anybody wants to discuss so what is so cut and dried about that?  You can't get any more loose than that except maybe in chat which you also have as an option. 

And we do have new posters being allowed to post daily and some new and fresh insight can be a good thing as well.

I have heard it expressed that the posters who have been here for two years are being sacrificed so that we can have new posters who only want to make the occasional specific posts in specific threads. I'm not saying that's the intent of Dugga and Red - I'm saying that's how it feels to some people.

I have to go do chores now, but I hope this debate will continue this morning. It seems to me that we need to have a healthy debate so that the bad feelings that are building up can be dealt with.

Yes, I agree with Tyler that we were told to only post breaking news and important documentation in the Natalee Thread and now seems we should discuss there as well.

This is part of the problem, no clear instructions on what goes where.  It is confusing but I don't think one monster thread is the answer.  That didn't work, either. 

So I guess any in depth discussion of Natalee belongs on her thread and this is for chatter?  But I do agree that we were told to save the Natalee Thread for the really big breaking news of which there is never any.

This thread will be like the old LCD thread.  We only request that if you have actual news, photos or pertenant facts on specific cases you post in the proper area.

Example:  If you have a news article or photo or specific information on the NH or other MP cases please post in either the NH thread or the MP thread.  If you have information on a court date in the NH case, please post in the NH thread, etc.

If you really just want to chat about silly stuff, please go to the chat room.

Other than that, discussion about all topics is welcome and this thread will act as our "meeting place and hang out".

I have not seen anybody say there can be "no mention" of anything in the Musings thread, Natalee included.  It's one thing to mention and another to make lengthy in depth posts, etc.

We got a bit carried away last night while things were slow but that should have been discussed elsewhere when it ran on for five pages, etc.

But it should be mentioned here when something happens then discussed in depth in the appropriate thread same as on any other forum.

Five pages is a little more than mentioning.

IMO all the creative juices, the throwing back of ideas, even the O/T was something I have never experienced on the Internet and it was here on SM

It was fun  IMO the fun is gone IMO... the chat and all the bells and whistles, to me aren't worth a penny if you loose the Monkey family.

Well, a thread about somebody's missing and likely deceased child is not supposed to be fun is the point.  It is a sad and serious subject.

We have plenty of other places for fun like this musings thread.  It wasn't fun for all of us in the first place.  It can be very tedious to try to conduct a serious discussion about something this tragic in the middle of others who only want to have fun.

Those two things do not belong in one place and can't occupy the same space. 

I don't understand why this is such a big deal.  Muse here; discuss Natalee on her thread.  Why this would be difficult at all I just don't understand.

Whatever is worked out for posting guidelines needs to be a lot clearer on what should be where, however, as we are receiving conflicting instructions.

Please could we pick one and stick to it?  I don't know if current events belong here or not now.  And this is the first I have heard that Natalee can't even be mentioned here, not sure where that came from.  Maybe instructions being issued in chat?

Regarding this, I would like to say that I understand how Anna feels, and yet I don't think humans operate exactly the way logic tell us they should. Has anyone ever been to a funeral home visitation and heard how much laughter there is in the background? And how about wakes where people party in memory of the deceased person? IMO, people need laughter even in the saddest of times. It seems to be what helps people deal with tragedy and brings them together for comfort.

The discussion last night although it looked like straight forward NH discussion was reallly more trying to get some answers pertaining to some Shango/Simian posts.  I let the conversations go because I didn't want to argue about it but I figured it would be looked at as excessive by Red and Dugga.

What you have pointed out is very true, we don't "chat" about the weather in the Donna Jou thread or any of the other missing persons threads so why is it OK in the NH thread?

I don't think many people laugh at funeral visitations.  Yes, there are always a few that will try to make a joke out of anything but that doesn't make it right.  Some things in life are not meant to be laughed about and I think a missing, dead child is one of those.

Natalee does deserve the same respect given to all other missing people just as Mrs. Red says.  I don't know why some just don't want to give that to her.  Many of us are here primarily for Natalee and other things are secondary to that.

And I have yet to see anything "creative" relating to Natalee come about as a result of off topic chatter.

Mrs. Red, I didn't see you post to move to the Natalee Thread or I would have.  There were two mods and a hall monitor telling me to stay here.

This is what I mean about conflicting instructions.  We need one set of rules that is clear and concise as to where what should be discussed.

Just was check de newspaper, De Telegraaf and was see, not really bad news. Only has a boy of 14 year, a boy of 15 year stabbed in his abdomen/belly. And a toddler of 1,5 year was falling in water, whereas it bride couple was, tell together yes. This little girl lays in the hospital now. Very sad! :cry:

What is so difficult to comprehend? We have gone over this and over this and over this. There is a balance between community and respect for a thread. That is what this is about. Some rules need to be followed, that is respect for SM, missing persons families. No one ever said you can't say the world Natalee Holloway in the Musings thread ... it is asked that once you begin only talking about it ... you go to that particular thread. There are many reasons for this.

We set up two threads so not to have idle conversation going on in a thread that is about a missing dead girl. Would you want that if it was your child?

Scared Monkeys forums are set up for two purposes, community and to responsibly discuss and follow missing persons stories as well as other issue. Never once did we ever say we are about one topic and one issue.

There is nothing wrong with community, in fact we have gone to great Lenghts to create a community that has lasted the test of time even though many have gone out of their way to destroy it.

The one thing that all must keep in mind ... please respect what is being done here. You do not have to care about the hours and hours of work that is put into the forums and front page. (It would be nice though). However, you do need to respect and I hope appreciate the work that is put forth. Please take a look what you have and ask yourself where you have this opportunity?

SM has actually been on the cutting edge of blogs/forums in what they bring to people. You have such incredible access to families of MP, Pundits like Clint Van Zandt and Wendy Murphy, Tim Miller, Beth, Dave, and so many other interviews that are set up with Dana.

There are so many things that are being pointed to the future that many of you I think fail to see that you are on the ground floor of some amazing on-line stuff.

To complain about where to post and in what thread is rather amazing.

Let me just explain the reason why talking about a specific topic in an appropriate thread is important. It may not be to you, but it is to the family of a missing person.

No one can read everything that is in a thread in all areas. Some people just do not have the time. If a family member or person wanting to discuss and research a particular missing person, or any story know exactly where to go.

There is a reason for all of this and I would like to think that what we have created here would actually be appreciated, not continuously criticized.

Look at the "Subject Line"  It should say whether it's Monkey Musings or Natalee Holloway or whatever Subject there is we have a thread for.  I love you to pieces NJMom, but I don't understand.  I think I know which way SM is trying to move things out of Natalee's thread that don't have to do with her case.  Should we talk about where we went shopping in that one?  I couldn't imagine doing that in the Missing and Exploited threads.  I wouldn't talk about my tax free weekend for shopping under Stepha Henry's thread...Maybe Natalee's thread needs to be moved over with the unsolved crimes.  Would that make it different?  I know it has been like the main place we all meet and gather, and I think that is what is trying to be done with Musings.  {{{hugs}}} jmo

One last thought on all this, then I am off--no, we don't chatter in the threads of other missing persons the way it was done in Natalee's thread and she deserves this same level of discussion and respect.  Notice how shocking the very idea seems for those with immediate family members posting here, very offensive thing to do, and yet some find it a desirable thing to do to Natalee's discussion.  I have to wonder why and what is the difference?

And some seem determined to not even give this format a try by avoiding it all.  At least, I have tried to participate and found for the most part that it does work well.

  Perhaps others might find the same thing if they actually gave it a try instead of saying why it won't work and refusing to even try it. 

A captive audience is just that and it does not mean that everyone is interested in all the things being posted because they are there trying to find out about Natalee.

  Some of us just don't have the time to download and sort through all the chit chat to find out the actual news we are looking for and are far from comfortable posting about Natalee among the okra, grits, condoms, thongs, rats and other things as though all are of equal interest and importance.  I just won't do that to this missing child any more.  Just because it was done in the past doesn't make it right.

But I will await clarified instructions on what should be posted here and what should not.

Let me just reiterate one thing again.

No one has ever stated that Natalee cannot be mentioned in the Musings thread. However, it should be as follows: has anyone heard anything new? Has anyone come up with any theories about the bone that was found? General comments. Then the correct response from either an Admin, moderator or Monkey should be ... yea they are discussing it right now in the NH thread ... lets all go there and talk in more detail.

The Musings thread is general talk ... about anything going on in the day. One a topic becomes more detailed ... thats when it goes to a thread.

For example Hurricane Dean. Right now common posts can be made about the damage being caused. Lets say that, and let's pray it does not occur, but what happens when Dean becomes like Hurricane Katrina. That will have to be discussed in its own thread ... just like we did back when Katrina occurred.

Uh, Red ~ Sorry if I'm nagging, but did you see my question about Robert Cooke (2 posts up)?  :-?

I am going to make the time this evening to go read the whole Donna Jou thread.  Appreciate all that work you have done but hope you are being careful as no one has been convicted of a crime in relation to this disappearance and you never know who might be lurking around.  Be careful!

None of this is meant to be difficult.

There are so many topics to discuss. Whether they be missing persons, politics, current events, music, etc.

It hardly seems productive to spend one's time complaining about something that we have worked tirelessly on to make right. I would also defy anyone to tell me where so much effort has gone in to make it right.

Please remember, that this sight does so much work behind the scenes that is never seen. SM is bigger than just a social forum and many will soon understand that in the not too distant future.

SM does not grow on trees as so many have found out the hard way. SM has a front page, a forum, live radio interviews and pod-casting. A lot of thought and work goes into making this.

Let's call it community with respect and a social cause.

All three of those need to be balanced.

Anna ~ Thanks for asking.  I always give TMI and ramble, but what the heck....
His daughter was abducted (?) here in Georgetown, Texas on January 10, 2002.  She was out jogging near her home (she was a cross-country/distance runner), and was literally within a few hundred yards of her home.  Never seen again. 

Tim Miller and Equusearch came to help within 2 days of Rachel missing ~ they stayed for a week as I recall.  Incredible man, and incredible group of people.

Robert, Rachel's dad, has kept a diary on www.kvue.com since the day before she was abducted (he backed up to the day before to give readers a sense of how it progressed).  The diary needs to be published, I believe.  It is a heartbreaking, and at the same time, hopeful read of the journey the family has taken, and are still taking.

Janet (Mom) taught Art with me at the middle school.  Rachel and her younger sister had been in my classes.

Anyway, sorry for talking too much.  Last comment; so sad that this never generated the media response (good or bad) that so many others have benefitted from.....maybe Rachel was before all the media interest in these particular cases.  :sad: :sad:

Forgot to add that Rachel was 20, and spending Christmas Break at home, then returning to college in San Diego.  She had extended her stay for a couple of days, as her cousin was marrying that weekend.

At one time, back in 2005 Robert Cooke was a member of SM. 

I just had a visual of monkeys swinging in from the jungle, waiting with their greencards, in line at SM cage. All sorts of monkeys, short ones, tall ones, old ones-you know...some with hats, some with cats.  Let the games begin.  LOL :smt026

I'm not a family member of a missing person, (Thank God!), but it's so nice to be able to go to the Natalee thread and see everyone's current line of thinking, and any news....about NATALEE. I can catch up quickly, and I honestly believe it fosters more focused thinking because the train of thought isn't so disjointed by unrelated topics.

And, Red's right. It's far more respectful to the families.

I really appreciate being able to feel more free in here to have other conversations, as well. I think we often looked for permission and justifications to be off topic when there was just the one thread. We sort of felt the need to do that because on some level we felt a little disrespectful.

I had misgivings. I so wanted to protect all that had become Scared Monkeys to me. When the change occurred, I was in amazement that those who had orchestrated the change had pulled it off! They actually improved what I felt was perfect!

Give this a chance. We're just in a bigger house and like the gold fish just released in a pond from it's bowl, we'll swim in circles for a while looking for the familiar, not realizing the vastness of the pool. But just like the goldfish, it's an incredible gift!

Thanks to All of The Admin Monkeys that have offered this to us! This place and these folks are unique. It's a group of intelligent, caring people that is well protected by intelligent, caring, people. I don't know where we'd go, anywhere, to duplicate it! Once again I will chime in on this.

In the name of Natalee Holloway (and no other missing person) -- we have discussed celebutarts, music, favorite movies, clear pee and other health hints, travel and holiday plans and menus, jokes and riddles, trivia questions, politics, family problems, whatever news of day - just whatever popped into anyone's head. This went on for page after page in the Natalee Holloway thread - but not in any other thread.

It also was routine for monkeys to comment on the Front Page topic, in the Natalee Holloway thread - no matter WHAT the topic. I came to dread FP articles about Britney etc.

This was an appalling development - even if no news was the reason. I don't even have to say "IMO" - there cannot be a difference of opinion about that. (And yes, I have occasionally been guilty. But I don't generally come here to chit chat.)

It seemed there needed to be a gathering place to meet the socializing needs of many monkeys. This thread should be that place. I sincerely appreciate that it has been created.

As for S&S, I again offer the M&C thread as a comparison. If there's an incident, I am so glad it's THERE. I am so grateful to those monkeys who have double-posted crime incidents both at the NH thread and the M&C thread. Otherwise I copy posts to M&C myself, but there's always a chance I will miss one.

(And I certainly am glad it hasn't devolved into scattered off-topic comments.)

Similarly, if the (A)Musing thread drifts into a discussion of Natalee or S&S, and certainly if anything substantive evolves from that discussion, why not put it where catch-up readers find it more easily -- and most important, where it is in context?

I noticed that Nut (*I think*) posted here about the bone(s) found on Aruba Saturday a.m. -- a very appropriate News Alert. What little information we have about that is on the appropriate thread, not here.

I just don't see a problem.

For those who don't have multi-tabs for the internet - open multiple windows if you want to be here as well as in S&S or NH or another site altogether. I used to do that all the time.

I was not part of last night's discussions.  I posted three times this morning.  Once to bring forward Klaasend's instructions, and underscored the portion that was debated by some.  The second was this one you quoted, here.  It was just what came to mind when I responded to NYC (I didn't say 'I' but used 'we', which may have skewed my intention).  The third was a 'wave' to you. 

I do look at the subject line, and I do understand what SM is doing and agree that personal or idle chatter has no place in dedicated threads.  Sometimes it is not what you say, but it's interpretation that causes a problem.  Yes, I guess I was on that road of good intentions....it leads, well, you know...

To the best of my knowledge, NO ONE EVER objected to there being a thread dedicated to Natalee Holloway or any other missing person. The problem people have been having is with all the restrictions that seem to have been imposed in this particular thread. Somehow that turned into people exclaiming in horror over how disrespectful everyone wants to be toward Natalee Holloway. It seems to me that the point of the whole discussion has been missed. However, I'm done, so please don't anyone feel a need to comment on my comment.

There are only two restrictions in this thread

1.  That case DISCUSSION does not belong here.  Now a mention of a breaking news event in a case can be mentioned here but actual discussion should not take place in this thread.

2.  That true chit chat, like a back in forth chat between two members about the color of their shoes SHOULD probably be done in the chat room.  That's what the chat room is there for.

Last night I allowed and contributed to the discussion regarding some questions Lala's had that pertained to Shango.  I was wrong to let it continue because it turned into a DISCUSSION that really belonged in either the NH thread or the S&S thread.

I was not online 8/18 & just a few minutes ago caught up back to the 17th & after reading todays posts will pose a suggestion, if I may?

When a 2nd post in Musings is made regarding the topic of a missing person, what if Musings became *locked* for a stated time to resume being stated with the suggestion of *we appear to be conducting case discussion presently therefore the proactive measure is being made to invite you all to * (the stated thread name & link) *.  Therefore the Moderator could direct to the proper thread with a LETS GO.

Would that eliminate the conflict discussion from resurfacing?   Think that this method could eliminate the experiencing feelings of criticism & indicate where the group is located at that real time occurrence.  This just seems to be solvable utilizing leadership methods & eliminate hurt feelings, unsolicited advice, etc.  DIRECTION about sums it up & would aid in the transition period.

I think a short time before or after the NEW FORMAT a suggestion/? was made regarding being able to quote & then bring that quote to a different thread was mentioned which would take some of the work off of the Moderator's if the original post could then be *noted* as being brought forward to *naming the thread* so that helpful monkeys could do their part without having access to board options.  Don't know if that is possible but my guess is that Dugga would know.

Anyway, that is my take.  Appreciate & empathize with all my peer monkeys & Mgmt. & Staff's hard work & efforts.  Change is difficult & there is no getting around it, the trick to success is to implement it in as unobtrusive manner as possible through direction, positive reinforcement & creativity when those hick-cups occur, as they ALWAYS DO.

Think I read 3 weeks to change, been my experience that it takes months for the new to TAKE with little memory of the old when it comes to human behavior/actions, there is only ONE Robot amongst us, after all.

The recent post box of last 10 posts is why I like the setup at BFN! It's a good suggestion!! I know Dugga has looked into it and I would love to see us have something similar. Also I would love to see us compiling important details in other threads outside of the NH thread so we can be organized and find everything related under that one thread. If the KLPD came here for research it would be nice to see them find  all the conflicting statements and lies compiled by Gerald Dompig or Joran for example.

I also started a a few new threads and I didnt know if they were started yet. I did a quick search just to see and I didnt see those subjects with here own thread. Like Suspects Vehicles or Old posts on Lorenzo.

I couldn't find anything at BFN if not for that recent posts box.  But with it, I can follow the discussions wherever they go.

Croes and Janssen rarely talked but Dompig contradicted himself weekly. As well as specifics of what PVDS did for the Aruban Govt and exactly who he worked with and what he did in the public ministry. He was not a simple clerk. He set up contracts and probably worked directly with Rudy Croes and the Justice Dept.

It works great on my newer PC but very laggy on my older mac maxed out with Ram. Must have something to do with the MGHZ or Bus Speed. Seems to get even more laggy as more people are in chat. When i type a pm in there it wont go through unless I hit the enter button a bunch of times.

Yes, SM is about many missing and exploited people.  We have two family members who are in that situation with a third possibly joining us soon.

It is good to provide as much help to as many as possible.

Yes two mothers of the missing have joined us and they are very diffrent circumstances but both loved ones are missing and there have been very little as far as answer's to what happened. I think we can be especially helpfull to Clinton's MOM so please reach out to them when you get the chance.

I was wondering the same thing.  I just checked Art's recent posts and I can't find anything about her dog.  Maybe it was from chat?

Some kid sat on Art's dog, rupturing a cyst and then Art's dog bit the kid. Then I think Art's dog died from the rupture. Then the lady sued Art because the dog big her kid...but she lied, saying the dog lunged at the kid first, but then her vet wrote a letter saying that the dog was blind so how could he have lunged first? Anyway, I think I got most of the details right...Art was having a really hard time with it, but apparently she's getting through it better now...

Dugga responded to an email I sent him regarding problems with chat.  This is an older computer...which may not have enough memory.  The errors I get point to that or perhaps other programs my son has loaded.  I would have to try to shut them all down to see if there's a difference, but I haven't.  He did mention some programs like Norton Anti-Virus are 'bloated'...(I think that was the term he used), and guess what's on this thing...I can forward the email for your info, if you'd like to figure out the common demoninator. :2doh:

Before the errors occur, I was able to post a few comments, then everything just freezes up...if I'm not able to exit normally, I have to 'end task' after 'ctl' 'alt' 'delete' or just shut down and reboot.

That is an AWFUL thing that happened to your furbaby.  I am so sorry to hear that.  I hope that those people leave you alone - you should be going after THEM.... geez.

You did good with the dog story..there is a lot more to it, but that is the jist of it!
THey were grifters...I didn't KNOW the Mother at all and her child was unruly and she refused to leave or correct her child. I was sick that day and could'nt even get off the chair or I woiuld have bodily thrown her and her brat out of the house. Dog was in another room entirely and after many corrections by ME, the child ran in and jumped on the dog. Its a mess. I kept asking her to leave and take the kid with her.

THe dog did die. So basically the little brat killed my dog. And he didn't really "bite"d her,  he punctured her in two places when he turned his head..he had been sleeping.
The Mother is saying the dog bit the child. She didn't know what happened..she wasn't even in the same room. The only witness was my husband who had just come in the house and couldn't grab the kid quick enough to stop her.

THere is a lot more to this, as I am sure you can imagine! But it is soooo long a story.

Oh, her hubby was helping my hubby and she just came in my house and sat down in my dining room uninvited! CAn you imagine?????

Frijole, many people have told me to go after them. I don't know. I have to go to court for "harboring a dangerous dog" now. My lawyer is handling all this...its all so bogus and is getting quite involved.  We are countering this..my lawyer is very good. They will NOT be suiing..guaranteed!!!!
My hubby told the Dog officer and the twon police I am not up to this and it is making me quite ill. They said they didn't care, they had to do what they had to do since the Beeatch filed a formal complaint. SO...my lawyer filed a suit against the police, the town and the dog officer with the Americans with disabilities and they accepted the case. So,,,it gets deeper and deeper. (I am considered neurologically disabled)

Art, This is just awful what you are going through. After all you went through this last year you should not have to go through something like this. And your poor dog died yet! When I walk my cocker spaniels around my neighborhood, Kids will try to come up to the dogs and grab at them etc. I tell them not to do it because my dogs are getting old, they are not in the mood for that. As I said, I am so sorry you even have to go through all that crap. Keeping you in prayer.

Regarding doggy treats and the toxic stuff.. I have gone off all that for my dogs and have begun to give them human animal crackers. They love them and no one has gotten sick from them yet!

My dogs like those too, lol. They love pupperoni sticks, but I don't think I trust any of that stuff anymore.

My dogs will eat a spoon sized shredded wheat.

Our guy was 10. Rather young for my Border Collies as most live to be nearly 20, but he was sick.
I am not going to settle anything. She'll not get a red cent out of me..it was not the dog's fault and I will fight for him, even though he is gone.
Everyone that ever met him loved him..he was the most gentle dog one could ever meet. We nicknamed him the "Delicate Flower" as he was sooo gentle and very "sensitive".
My lawyer did find the hubby is on the criminal docket and said to the other lawyer, "oh, btw, I saw your clent's name on the criminal docket this morning while in court..blah blah blah..."...My lawyer is a very sharp lawyer. ANd a friend is looking into whether or not they have pulled their scam on others. This friend has access to records and such...
I think it will all turn out okay. It is just a miseralble PIA while it goes on.

This is my boy, OSCAR... he is what they call a parti-colored cocker spaniel. His ears are supposed to be long , but alas, he trims them himself. How? He pins them into his mouth and chews the excess off. I know, I know!! He is crazy!

After what was to me a pleasant discovery of several monkeys in the one thread at the same time and an enjoyable discussion in the Monkey Musings last night, I come in today to find it has stored up a hornet’s nest.  It was more of a scratching the head and remembering a couple of details rather than a full-blown discussion but appears to have fallen foul of the thread monitors.  I apologise for contributing to these out of thread postings and intend to not post again unless absolutely necessary so as not to upset the plan. 

I know it is difficult with the time difference but under the old system I used to find quite a few monkeys in the same place to chat with and toss a few ideas around.  I know I am out of the loop by being so far away but I have come to consider the monkeys as a family and look forward to checking in each day and catching up with news about all sorts of things. That is what attracted me to joining SM, as well as it not being a clone of every other blog, after many months of just reading there.   I worry about those that have had health or family troubles as though they were my own kin. I believe it is this very fact, as well as Natalee’s case,  that attracted the monkeys in the first place, and why so many stayed loyal through the years. And could possibly be why there are so many others waiting to become monkeys. I hope these new monkeys bring as much dedication and loyalty to the forum as the ones in the past.

I intend to continue reading here and will definitely watch the prayer thread and other postings by monkeys requesting help. I am still undecided about continuing my Aussie thread long term – it was set up to entertain the monkeys that had been so welcoming and loving towards me when I joined but now few of them post regularly any longer.  There are a lot of monkeys not posting now that were very active when I joined and they cannot ALL be sidetracked by other things.  And now several more appear to be planning to join the list of missing. 

I can understand how it must be for people coming here and wanting to read only about Natalee’s case and finding pages of other discussion.  The Dutch law discussions in there lately seem to have taken on a life of their own and I am surprised they have not been granted their own thread under Natalee’s heading.

I will drop into the chat room from time to time even though now I have sampled it, it is not my preferred method of communicating. If any monkeys wish to email me they may get my addy from Klaas, Mishy or BTgirl. I expect the other moderators could have access to it also. Please mark the emails with your screen name or Monkey Mail as I have a voracious junk mail filter.

I will always continue to pray for answers and justice for dear Natalee and her family.

I know this heat and drought has taken a tremendous toll on me personally.  The dust alone triggers my asthma all the time, too.  And the heat is miserable, 100 every day forever and never any rain.

Yes, it could be causing some of us to be cranky like me maybe.  But I am pretty well pleased and think things are going well on the forum.  It takes time to adjust to anything new.  Just trying to keep up and follow the new rules but messed up last night.  Next time I will think before I post, lol.  Live and learn but that's not a big deal to me.  As long as the mods move things around, fine with me.  Just so I don't have to move my own posts as I am laxy in this heat.

If only I could use these on school email. heehee. I'd love it.

I have tried to do some of my work at night when it is cool but I never actually get anything done!  Guess I am not as much of a night person as I thought.

Are you an English teacher?  I always spell check and try to review my punctuation and grammar when I email my son's teachers.  I don't want them to think I'm ignorant. :2thinky:

I used to teach 7th and 8th grade Math and Language Arts......then changed to Art when they needed an Art teacher and I was certified in that.....although it was an Interior Design major with an Education minor.  Had gone back to get Math and English certification after undergrad.

CBB ~ Every year our district pays (6,000 to 9,000) some consultant~Lord knows where they find 'em~ to come and speak for 2 hours on how to handle problem kids, how to inspire them,  blah blah.  Not that I know everything, but this is the absolute same stuff I've heard for 20 years.....pyscho-babble with a new name attached each August.  Irritating.

Very Cute CBB.  Muffy B is actually my yorkshire terrier.  I also have Bitsy B another yorkie.  They are the B sisters.  And the B stands for uhm, uh, well, you know.  They are both girls. :lol:  I didn't think of Bee's when I made up that nic.  I am actually allergic to bee's.  LOL  I was looking at yorki avis, but Sleuth came up with a bee, so it's always been like that.  I have seen an image or two I might want to make into an avi.
