#1407, male, 22, studying to be a mechanic, Atheist, 8 or 9 in favor of the death penalty, his mother married a man in jail, (he is still in jail), his uncle was in jail ~13 years ago (bad check charge), considers jury duty his civic duty, mistrusts the media.

No challenges from state. Defense challenges on "age" and that he "lied in questionnaire" about criminal background.
Motion to excuse denied.

He makes it to the next round.

Summary:

Defense wants him excluded for age, Judge Perry said they mislead him...didn't pose the question properly...Judge Perry thinks the way the question was posed the PJ gave his opinion.

Also for lying on the questionaire about the drug arrest.

Judge Perry denied the request to dismiss for cause.

They chose not to use a challenge now.

Baez is just weird... He said 1407 agreed to being analytical and so had thought out what he was doing when he checked "no". But when he asked 1407 if he was analytical, the answer was "Yes, I've always like working with my hands." Clearly the guy either didn't hear the question correctly, or he didn't understand the word 'analytical'. Either way, it was obvious to any person with half a brain that he didn't get the question.
