In a precedent that could have a major impact nationwide, California police say they are looking at known child pornography traffickers in a missing child case.

(TRACY, Calif.) - Police in Tracy, California, a city of 80,000 just east of San Francisco, are searching for an 8 year-old child, Sandra Cantu, who disappeared March 27th.

Now, according to the Tracy Press, investigators in the case say they are looking at 60 individuals in the Tracy area who have been identified trafficking in child pornography, along with 78 "registered" sex offenders.

It is believed to be the first time in the U.S. that police have publicly acknowledged the huge population of known but not arrested child pornography suspects in a missing child case.

While visiting the homes of "registered" sex offenders is common in missing children cases, the public is mostly unaware that U.S. law enforcement has also identified hundreds of thousands of criminals trafficking in child pornography.

Fewer than 2% of these suspects are ever investigated, as police and lawmakers focus on other priorities.

Most law enforcement agencies are reluctant to acknowledge the existence of these suspects, because doing so would put huge numbers of unsolved crimes on their boards... crimes they are not now investigating.

Pursuing the 60 known Tracy child pornography traffickers would, without question, lead to the rescue of many local children who are suffering at the hands of sexual predators, many within their own homes.

If authorities follow through on their plan, they will seek 60 subpoenas and then locate and interview these individuals. Tracy could then expect a wave of successful child pornography and child abuse investigations and prosecutions.

Tracy authorities, under intense pressure to find Sandra Cantu, have now set an incredibly important national precedent.

Their willingness to acknowledge at-large child pornography traffickers in their midst shows courage... and could help locate a child victim.

The red language is what I keep telling myself over and over.  Perhaps this was God's way of saying enough is enough in Tracy and bringing an end to the cult that probably has been injuring children in Tracy and, perhaps abroad, for a long, long time.  We'll never know why God chose Sandra.  But the incident did occur during the time God sacrificed his own son for the lives of others.

Great article Jess, but why did it take this case to do something about the 60+ that they knew about it. Looks like they turned a blind eye to it this whole time. Something had better be done this time.

This is GREAT!  If this gets the ball rolling and lights a fire under the butts of LE, then Sandra did not die in vain.

Oh god I stepped away from the computer and just came back to read this. I am sick and dizzy right now. If this has anything to do with the child porn ring in my town, I will tell you one thing you will find out my real name, I will be the one on the news berating my Police force for not acting sooner. This is sickening, that poor child. Her poor family, wth???

Let me try to answer this question. The procession had to be between 4:00 to 4:30 because I was driving home from work and made it just in time to watch.

I feel sorry for Sandra's parent...most definitely, but I also have pity for MH's parents and grandparents. You can assume they knew anything about it..and someone earlier called them vermin. I mean, come on...there for the grace of god go I. You can't have complete control over your relatives. If my cousin does something messed up, it's hardly my fault.

I used to be an investigator for a very popular online service (back in the dialup days) and I can tell you it's mostly relatives of the children that are the predators when it comes to actually producing child pornography. Most of it that was traded was either old (70's) or the same pictures over and over again. They'd jump em from a server in the bahamas. It was slick and I can tell you once you've seen it..you never forget it. I remember every picture I saw in sickening detail. It was something not for the faint of heart. I enjoyed getting the perps though. Made me happy.

I'm not saying everyone was not involved but calling these old people who haven't been charged with any crime vermin gives me the heeby jeebies.

As of now, I know that I don't know if any of Melissa's family knew. I will wait and see what comes out to see, I hope that her grandparents didn't know anything, I really do , this is all very sickening. We don't know what they knew or if any of them were involved at this point.  However, the fact that they held a service in that church yesterday has me floored and I just lost a HUGE amount of respect for them.  I'm also wondering just how much was going on right under their nose.  I doubt I'll like the answer to that question.

I haven't YET gone so far as to call them vermin, but the act of conducting Easter Services at the very church we've been told was the location of Sandra's murder was nothing short of sacrilegious. At the very least, they should have considered how Sandra's family would feel about that. It's like having a party at the murder scene! That act does not put them in a good light in my eyes. And yes, if more comes out about any of her family being complicit in any way then I will have nothing but contempt for them and vermin would be a mild label to apply to that kind of evil.

I understand what you have said. What I am having issues with is when the police first started the canvass of where Sandra had been that Friday night, where was the Grandma.
Did she keep her mouth shut when her grandaughter Melissa was lying ?
Melissa did not become crazy and a danger to others in a split second. They lived in close quarters. Unless Melissa was spending most of her time at the church doing god knows what,
someone in that house should have seen the train coming.

In her drugged up mental state Melissa may have molested and killed Sandra out of anger and jealousy. 

I'm not convinced the pastor or the church had any involvement in this. From what I have read Melissa had been depressed over her divorce, job loss and theft charges and that is why she came to live with her grandparents. I do think they were aware that Melissa had a problem but I don't think they knew just how severe her problems were. Maybe her father thought by sending her with her grandparents she would straighten out.

It's possible she became addicted to drugs while married and maybe she was in an abusive relationship. Maybe that's when she started to really flip out or maybe she has been mentally unstable from the time she was a child.

I know!  I'm just as interested in that case as anyone else and it's what brought me to the cage in the first place, but the world has not stopped turning and there are still other children in the the world who are being abused.
