Kyron’s parents testify before grand jury

TIP LINE - (503) 261-2847

PORTLAND, Ore. - The parents of missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman testified before a grand jury Monday afternoon, according to a source at the Multnomah County Courthouse.

Kyron’s mother, Desiree Young, and his stepfather, Tony Young, left the Multnomah County Courthouse out a side door following their testimony and were escorted by sheriff’s deputies.

They said nothing and left in an unmarked car.

Kyron’s father, Kaine Horman, left separately after more than three hours of speaking with jurors. He also had no comment.

DeDe Spicher, a close friend of Kyron’s stepmother,Terri Horman, was asked to testify before the grand jury last week but never actually spoke to jurors.

Sources have said Terri and DeDe have not been able to account for an hour and a half to two hours on the morning of June 4.

Neither Terri Horman nor DeDe Spicher have been charged with any crimes or named suspects in the case, but the family has said they believe Terri was involved in Kyron’s disappearance and that DeDe knows something.

Last Friday Desiree Young made a plea for anyone who knows Terri or DeDe to come forward.

“They need to come forward even if they have nothing, even if they have something small, they need to come forward because it could be the smallest piece that helps solve it,” she said. “If they know them or have talked to them ever, they need to come forward and just share what they know.”

KATU News has been told that Spicher is now talking to detectives but it is unknown if she will be called back to testify before jurors.

If she is forced to talk, she would be granted immunity under Oregon law.

The grand jury in this case could hear testimony for weeks or months and it could also hand off the case to a new grand jury. Experts say testimony usually wraps up within a couple of weeks and the process of getting answers and a possible indictment in the case is moving forward.

“It’s clear that the district attorney, who is the legal adviser to the grand jury, is now confident enough to start this process. Hopefully, that will lead to an indictment,” said Bruce McCain, an attorney and former Multnomah County sheriff’s captain.

“They (Kyron’s parents) are probably going to be the first in a long list of civilian witnesses who will be joining the investigators and boxes and boxes of evidence in this process,” he said.

The district attorney’s office won’t confirm how long the grand jury has been seated or how long it expects jurors to hear testimony.

Back on page 5 or so of this thread, it was said that Dede's vehicle formerly sported a sticker from Multnomah Search and Rescue. This is not correct.

The sticker read "Klamath County Dive Rescue."  Dede's parents live in Klamath County, which is where Dede grew up.  They live several hours south of Portland.  Dede's father was deputized by the Klamath County Sheriff's Office as an officer in the marine rescue unit.  It has been established that Dede's father was NOT involved in the search efforts for Kyron in Multnomah County.

The decal was on the rear window of Dede's vehicle when she drove Terri away from the Horman residence around the time of the divorce filing/restraining order/order to vacate the home.  Then, after Dede's home had been searched by LE, it was noted that the decal had been removed.

Brandi was kind enough to snag pictures.  Maybe she could repost them to clarify this issue.

Just wanted to correct that before anyone hopped onto the wrong info and ran with it.  If I have any info wrong here, please correct the corrector.  LOL

It would be unusual for the prosecution to subpoena the target of a grand jury investigation to testify before the grand jury.  First, the prosecution is under no obligation to present the defense's side.  Second, the prosecution is under no obligation to present "exculpatory" evidence.  The question is whether there is sufficient evidence to convict.  Since the state cannot compel a criminal defendant to testify at the merits trial, it would be most unusual for a prosecutor to subpoena the target because, assuming the target would not assert the 5th amendment privilege against self-incrimination, the target, if charged, would not likely testify at trial, therefore making the indictment suspect.

Thanks Jess!

How long do we think the GJ will last?  DeDe went before them a week ago today the 26th.

Don't know if true but I heard the GJ in Portland is seated for 1 month.....Don't remember who said it, but was on one of the talk shows.....and we all know how often they're wrong

Glad I am not the only one to notice the TH support page taking down Kyron's picture replacing with step-mother.  National TV twice in one day.....hmm

Yeah..  Am glad that y'all mentioned it cuz dang, I thought I had gone into the wrong forum.  Eeeeek!  Dunno why they'd do such a thing.  It's weird, cuz in changing up the main pic, what kind of statement is that making?  Or is it a statement at all?  scratch  Just seems very weird to me...

I appreciate your friendship so much also   an angelic monkey      If DeDe is forced to talk, she would be granted immunity under Oregon law. That is interesting. And I wonder if DeDe's cousin if what he is saying is true, if DeDe when she moved into the house with Terri, and became suspicious if she did get any info from her? Also when she moved out if they were still speaking? I read on here somewhere that they are no longer speaking to each other.
