Title: Dallas Police Search for Johnathan Ramsey's Remains (Body Found)
Post by: MuffyBee on March 31, 2012, 08:08:25 PM
I've seen conflicting reports with the spelling of this murdered child and I haven't seen it verified yet.  I'll change the spelling in the subject lines if need be.

Local and federal officers are now in Ellis County, searching for the remains of 11-year-old Johnathan Ramsey.

Dallas Police were alerted to the case on Friday when Ramsey's grandfather asked officers to look into the welfare of his grandson.  Detectives determined the child was deceased.  Police said the child may have died between six months to a year ago.

Police arrested the child's father, 34-year-old Aaron Ramsey and his stepmother, 32-year-old Elizabeth Ramsey.  They could face a charge of Injury to a Child Felony One.

Police Search for Remains of Missing 11-Year-Old
March 31, 2012

Deputy Chief Sherryl Scott said police received a call on Friday from the grandfather of Johnathan Ramsey, who wasconcerned about his grandson because he had not seen Johnathan for at least nine months and possibly as long as a year.

Scott said police received conflicting accounts of what happened to the boy during interviews with the child's father and stepmother. The questioning led police to believe the child had been killed, though Scott declined to elaborate.

The father, 34-year-old Aaron Ramsey, and the stepmother, 31-year-old Elizabeth Ramsey, were arrested and charged with felony injury to a child.

Scott said information from the suspects led police to Ellis County, where FOX 4 News saw Dallas police, EllisCounty sheriff's deputies, and members of a private search team scouring the brush of a large field on Saturday afternoon.

"At this time, we are still conducting our search," Scott said.
 ::snipping2::
Scott said the child had not been in school, but did not have information about the circumstances of that decision. Police declined to discuss whether Johnathan Scott suffered any medical problems that might have kept him out of school.

Johnathan Ramsey, Missing 11-Year-Old, Presumed Dead; Dad, Step-Mom Arrested as Police Search for Body
March 31, 2012

According to a brief police statement sent to media this afternoon, investigators are searching an area in Ellis County for the boy's remains. Aaron Ramsey, 34, and his 31-year-old wife, Elizabeth Ramsey, gave conflicting statements to detectives about the boy's whereabouts, DPD says. WFAA reports that the boy's father told detectives that he dumped the boy's body a year ago.

Fox4 reports that the boy's grandfather told police he hadn't seen the boy in nine months or longer. His biological mother lives out of state, and police have spoken with her.

Records show that the couple lives in this home near Greenville Avenue and Royal Lane in northeast Dallas:

Dallas police search for body as couple accused of slowly starving boy to death
March 31, 2012

In the last months of Johnathan Ramsey’s life, the 10-year-old boy was locked in a northeast Dallas bedroom where he was fed mostly bread and water as punishment for alleged misbehavior.

As he wasted away last year, his father and stepmother gave family members various reasons for why they couldn’t come to visit him. Now those relatives know the truth: Johnathan slowly starved to death, given only what his dad called “military rations” until he became so frail and hungry that he couldn’t walk and ate his own feces, according to police records obtained by The Dallas Morning News.

Police said the boy’s father and stepmother, Aaron Ramsey and Elizabeth Ramsey, confessed. Both are in the Dallas County Jail and face first-degree felony charges of injury to a child. Bail was set at $500,000 each.
Sadly, there's much more...

Parents arrested as grim search continues for 11-year-old boy

Police said the Ramseys offered conflicting stories about what happened to their son.

According to documents obtained by The Dallas Morning News, the crime happened at the Ramseys' home in Dallas.  Aaron Ramsey told investigators he hit his son in the chest after the boy allegedly struck his wife, who was pregnant with triplets. She apparently lost the babies.
The documents reveal that Ramsey admitted to locking his son in a bedroom because he was becoming more violent, and would only give him bread, water and some milk as nourishment.

Ramsey claims in the documents that he saw his son eating his own feces.

The documents also mention that when Ramsey found his son unresponsive, he bathed him, put him in a sleeping bag, and took him to Ennis — where he dumped him.
So, this is Johnathan's fault.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

11-Year-Old Johnathan Ramsey's Body Found, Parents May Be Charged With Murder
April 2, 2012

Eleven-year-old Johnathan Ramsey has been found dead in an abandoned storm shelter, police have reported. The tragic news comes after the boy was reported missing by his grandfather, who claimed he hadn't seen Johnathan in over nine months.
 ::snipping2::
Johnathan had not been seen by relatives in at least nine months, and his parents would only offer excuses as to why the boy was not present at family events or could not speak with his family. Since all his family lived out of state, nothing seemed amiss until recently, when Johnathan's grandfather called police to report him missing.

That prompted police to investigate and begin searching for the boy. After a slight delay due to rain, authorities resumed their search and made the grim discovery. Johnathan's body was found wrapped in a sleeping bag and discarded in a storm shelter. He was emaciated, and now his parents are being held on charges of first-degree felony injury of a child.
 ::snipping2::
In light of Johnathan's death, Aaron and Elizabeth's charges may be increased and could include first-degree murder.

This was just on the evening news, not sure about the previous post re: his being found back on April 2.  This is just breaking this evening.

http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/Possible-break-in-case-of-missing-Dallas-boy-148395445.html

ELLIS COUNTY — News 8 has learned that Dallas police believe they may have found the remains of Johnathan Ramsey, the 10-year-old boy whose mysterious disappearance led to the arrest of his father and stepmother last month.

Police found what appeared to be a child's remains in a creek near Ennis at 2 p.m. Saturday. The same area was searched three weeks ago; this time police had more personnel and more equipment to help.

The search started at 7 a.m. Pumps were brought in to drain part of the creek to aid the investigators.

The submerged skeletal remains of a child are believed to be those of Johnathan Ramsey. His father and stepmother are accused of starving him last year, then dumping his body in rural Ellis County last summer.

"We're hoping — with all hope — that it's little Johnathan Ramsey," said Dallas police Sgt. Brenda Nichols. "We won't know that for sure until our medical examiner has a chance to do their job."

Investigators were still at the scene as the sun went down Saturday collecting additional evidence.

New Mexico-born boy presumed dead from starvation

Quote
The biological mother of the 11-year-old, Judy Swanson, still lives in New Mexico and said she lost contact with Aaron Ramsey after he remarried.

“I couldn't even send him anything for his birthday or Christmas. They changed their numbers and wouldn't give me an address,” Swanson wrote in an e-mail.

Court documents show Swanson divorced Ramsey in Los Lunas in 2006. A judge ordered that Jonathan live with Ramsey full time in Texas.
Dated Apr 04, 2012.  Mentions the mom.

Its time to start holding judges responsible for their decisions.

Your right KittyMom, they are in the ground, I guess not as fancy as the "bomb Shelters" of yester-year (old California girl here) so all this tornado & hurricane stuff is pretty new to me.  The ones I've seen here in North Texas are out in the yards, don't think there are many homes with cellars here.

As I said, all the reports I"ve seen and read this evening they had drained what looked to be a pond today, and found remains at the bottom.

Police find remains that could be the body of starved boy
April 21, 2012

Ennis, Texas—

Dallas Police search teams blocked off part Ensign Road in a wooded area of Ellis County Saturday to resume searching for the body of ten year old Johnathan Ramsey. Shortly after 2pm, they located what they believe are human remains.

"By remains, I mean something like bones but I can't definitely definitively say that it's Johnathan Ramsey", said Sgt Brenda Nichols with the Dallas Police Department.

Police found the remains in a creek bed. They started searching for the boy's body last month in the same area but conditions at the time including a swollen creek hampered the search.

"We had Ellis County officials that were very kind to us, they volunteered they brought pumps out here. They were able to pump some of the water out for us to make it easier for us to actually get down into the creek itself", Nichols said.
 ::snipping2::
It had been nearly a year since family had seen or heard from Johnathan. His grandfather became concerned and went to police who launched an investigation.

After talking to the boy's father and stepmother, Aaron and Elizabeth Ramsey, police say the two admitted starving the boy to death in their East Dallas home.

After he died, police say Aaron Ramsey put the body in a sleeping bag and dumped it in Ellis County. Police say the body was found in the area where Aaron told them it would be -- a sleeping bag was found near the remains.
Police are waiting for the medical examiner to positively identify the body.
 ::snipping2::
We spoke to the grandfather who reported Johnathan missing but he was too emotional to talk.

As for Aaron and Elizabeth Ramsey, they have been jailed since the search first began and their bond is set at a half-a-million dollars each.

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/local-news/20120421-authorities-believe-theyve-found-remains-of-johnathan-ramsey-10-who-starved-to-death.ece

Related Authorities searching in Ellis County near Ennis on Saturday found what they believe are the remains of 10-year-old Johnathan Ramsey, who police say was starved to death.

 The remains were discovered in a rural area where authorities say the child’s father, Aaron Ramsey, told Dallas police he put the body last year. Ramsey and the boy’s stepmother, Elizabeth Ramsey, face charges of injury to a child. Each is being held at the Dallas County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Forensic and DNA testing must be done to positively identify the remains. Authorities found the remains about 2 p.m. Saturday after using pumps to drain part of a creek.

 ::snipping2::

Aaron Ramsey told police that he locked the boy in the room early last year after he began behaving violently. He said Johnathan caused his stepmother, who was pregnant with triplets, to miscarry by punching her in the stomach.

From March to August last year, Johnathan’s weight dropped from 90 pounds to 60 pounds. Police believe the boy died around August. Aaron Ramsey told police that after Johnathan died, he was placed in his favorite T-shirt and put into a sleeping bag with a dryer sheet to curb the smell. Ramsey told police he later dumped his body in a wooded area in Ellis County.

Swanson, the step-grandmother, and her husband, Lloyd, have not seen the boy they called “J.L.,” short for Johnathan Lloyd, since he was a toddler. Aaron Ramsey and Johnathan’s mother, Judy Ramsey, divorced in 2006 in New Mexico.

Aaron Ramsey succeeded in getting custody of Johnathan, while Judy Ramsey was awarded custody of their younger son. The Swansons say Aaron Ramsey refused to let his ex-wife see Johnathan for years.

The Swansons say they had always hoped that when Johnathan grew up, they would be able to rekindle a relationship with him. Now that will never happen.

 ::snipping2::

The Swansons said that whenever they eat, they think about the unimaginable torture Johnathan endured.

“I hope they live in hell every day that they are in jail, and I hope they are in there until the day they die,” Starla Swanson said. “That still won’t bring J.L. back, but at least they won’t be able to do it to someone else.”

So do parents, grand parents etc just forget about a child if they don't have custody and don't fight for those all important visitation rights?
I can not imagine that I would not be at their door to see my grandchild...where this is a will there is a way...jmo...
It seems that no one really cared enough about this little boy to follow up on his care and welfare..
Very sad..

And I don't believe for 1 minute that his little boy punched the step mother in the stomach. I think that he would have been too scared to even sass back let alone hit one of his tormentors..

Poor kid. He never had a chance with the family that he was born into.
14 hrs was too far for mom to drive to see her son?? I do not understand that...drive it every 2 months if nothing else...no excuses to this kind of parenting, none! Same with the rest of he family...I hope that they all feel guilt in their uninterest in this little boy. As he was languishing in his bedroom, sad, hungry and alone, no one came...no one...

Skeleton Found in Creek Identified as Missing Boy

Judge Bill Woody says the Dallas County medical examiner believes skeletal remains found in a rural creek south of Dallas on Saturday are those of Johnathan Ramsey, a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly starved to death by his parents.

Wood said the medical examiner's analysis is based on circumstances of the case as described by investigators, and that DNA test results are still pending and that x-ray tests will be conducted to determine if the boy was starved to death.

The medical examiner's office declined to comment because the case involves remains found in another county.

Body found in creek identified as starved Texas boy

ReutersBy Jon Nielsen | Reuters – Tue, May 15, 2012

 ::snipping2::
DALLAS (Reuters) - Officials with the Dallas County medical examiner's office said on Tuesday they have identified a body found in a Texas creek bed in March as that of 10-year-old Johnathan Ramsey, who police have said was apparently starved to death by his parents.

Police began searching for the boy on March 30 after Johnathan's grandfather reported him missing.

The boy's father and stepmother told police they punished him for punching his pregnant stepmother in the stomach and causing a miscarriage, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The pair locked Johnathan in a bedroom for months and fed him only bread and water, the paper reported. Police believe he died of starvation in August, the paper said.

The boy's father, Aaron Ramsey, 34, and his stepmother, Elizabeth Ramsey, 31, have been charged with injury to a child. ::snipping2::

Starvation is a horrible, slow death.  I think this is the correct punishment for these two POS.

Trial begins for parents of starved boy
March 4, 2013

DALLAS -
Jury selection began Monday for the trial of the parents of an 11-year-old boy who was allegedly starved to death.

The skeletal remains of Jonathan Ramsey were found dumped in a field in Ennis last year.

Aaron and Elizabeth Ramsey are accused of locking him in his room and feeding him only bread and water for months.

According to court documents, the boy went from weighing about 90 pounds to 60 pounds. He became too weak to walk and was so hungry that he ate his own feces. He died sometime in August.

Aaron Ramsey admitted to finding him dead, changing him into his favorite t-shirt and placing him in a sleeping bag with dryer sheets to mask the smell, police said.

The couple was charged with felony injury to a child.

According to the Texas state penal code if Aaron and Elizabeth Ramsey have been charged with first degree felony injury to a child they could be sentenced anywhere from 5-99 years in prison.

The Ramsey's knew that their actions were killing the boy in a slow and tortuous way.  Hoping they get the 99.

Texas man convicted of starving son, dumping body

Aaron Ramsey, 35, was found guilty of severely injuring a child in the death of his son, Johnathan. The Dallas County jury will hear testimony Wednesday on what punishment the man should receive. He could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
Prosecutors said the father locked his son in his room, where he slowly starved on a diet of bread and water. They contend Ramsey dumped the child's emaciated body in a rural area south of Dallas in 2011. The boy's remains were found in the area a year ago in a creek.
Aaron Ramsey allegedly told police he limited the boy's meals to bread, water and sometimes milk for several months. According to police records, the boy was confined to his bedroom in the family's Dallas home.
The boy's mother, Judy Williams, and other relatives did not see him for months. Williams lives in New Mexico and has custody of the couple's other son, according to relatives.
Johnathan's grandfather, Edward Ramsey, had contacted police early last year to ask them to search for the child because he had not seen the boy for more than a year.
Police said Aaron and Elizabeth Ramsey, the child's stepmother, initially claimed the boy had gone to live with his mother but later confessed to starving the boy to death.
According to police, Aaron Ramsey said he put his son on "military rations" because the boy began to misbehave early last year. Ramsey said the boy had punched his stepmother in the stomach when she was pregnant, causing a miscarriage. Ramsey said he hit Johnathan in the chest and then locked him in a bedroom, according to the records.
Johnathan was found lying on the bedroom floor in August, according to court records. Aaron Ramsey told detectives he changed his son into his favorite T-shirt, placed him into a sleeping bag and inserted a dryer sheet to mask the smell of his body, the records said.
Elizabeth Ramsey also is charged with the crime and will be tried separately.

Stepmom on trial for boy's starvation death
July 16, 2014

DALLAS -
Opening statements were made Wednesday in the trial for a Dallas woman accused in the starvation death of her stepson.

Elizabeth Ramsey is charged with injury to a child.

Prosecutors said she starved 11-year-old Jonathan Ramsey and kept him locked in his bedroom.

Jonathan died sometime around August 2011 and his body was later found in a creek near Ennis.
"Elizabeth Ramsey with her husband, Jonathan's dad, threw his body away in a ditch like a piece of trash," prosecutors said in court.

Defense attorneys argued Aaron Ramsey is the monster in this case. They claim he dragged his wife into his scheme.

He has already been convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Elizabeth Ramsey faces between five and 99 years in prison if convicted.

DALLAS (AP) A North Texas jury has convicted a woman in the 2011 starvation death of her 10-year-old stepson.

The Dallas County jury found 33-year-old Elizabeth Ramsey guilty Tuesday of intentional serious injury to a child in Johnathan Ramsey's death. Jurors begin hearing testimony Wednesday morning in the sentencing phase of Ramsey's trial and could sentence her to up to life imprisonment.

The boy's 35-year-old father, Aaron Ramsey, is serving a life sentence already.

Prosecutors say the two locked the boy in his room, slowly starved him on a diet of bread and water and dumped his emaciated body in a rural area south of Dallas in 2011. The body was found the next year in a creek.
