GreenEyes...You mentioned freckles, I loved freckles!  I loved freckles so much - I dotted them on my face in HS :)
I used a eyeliner brown pencil.  Everyone and everything was so cool in those days.  This was a couple years after the white
lipstick fad.  ::MonkeyHaHa::

Talk about funny seahorse.  ::MonkeyHaHa:: I wanted mine gone use to try the old lemon juice on the face to try and fade them.  ::MonkeyHaHa:: They faded on there own.  ::MonkeyHaHa:: I tell you I still shake my head when I see pictures with the white lip stick.  ::MonkeyHaHa::

Thank-you for reminding me of the white lipstick, forgot to thank-you.  I really need a tube of white lipstick, because I have
a couple tacky lip colors, and I need white in order to tone them down.  ::MonkeyHaHa::  The idea behind the white lipstick
was to focus on the eyes, but no one could focus on the eyes  ::MonkeyHaHa:: because of white lips.

Kids used to try to lighten freckles with your lemon juice technique, funny, everyone smelled like lemons or oranges at that time.

This is so fun remembering the cool days  ::MonkeyHaHa::

I would roll my hair on beer cans or soda cans or maybe baked bean cans, I just remember I stuck my head partially in the
oven (to dry my hair) and my ears got burn't from the cans.  Gee, I wonder how I made it past seventeen.   :D

Oh ya, the hair......what would they have done without AQUA-NET extra hold hairspray!

  Remember all the colored liquid eyeliners, I would have so many different colors on my lids don't know how I could keep my eyes open.......and the black liner, wings to our eyebrows,   ahhhh the 60's, really were the best of times.

 To see what has evolved since, wish our kids and future generations could still have the innocence, yet fun that we enjoyed!

No reason to feel like an Idjet, seahorsey.  Believe it or not, there was a local newspaper in my area that printed something similar on the front page.  When I called to let them know it wasn't true, they asked me how I knew that  (my source) .  I told them I checked on the web.  (It was the FCC.gov website, btw)  Their reply?  I shouldn't trust what I read on the internet.   ::MonkeyHaHa::  I asked them where they got the information and they said a "reliable source" sent it to them (are you ready?) in an email.  Now, that's the same thing as the internet.  LOL  I told them they should verify things to see if they are true before printing them as fact on the front page.  The editor got pizzy with me,  swearing by their reliable source, who couldn't be wrong and I threatened to cancel my subscription.  It turns out the editor did end up printing a retraction, but not on the front page.  But at least she retracted it.  So, don't worry seahorse.  I know you were trying to help.   ::MonkeyKiss:: 

Don't feel bad seahorse. The first time I got it I fail for it to. There have been a couple things I have gotten I sent out. To learn that they weren't true. I try now to check it out with snopes before I send anything out.

I didn't fall for this one, because one of my sons had alerted me to it.  But I admit there may have been some other things...  :2redface:  and I too have learned to check it out with snopes.  Live and learn...  ::MonkeyHaHa::

Yep, I thought the deal with the newspaper editor was funny.  She was telling me not trust what I read on the internet, yet she got something off an email no less.  And even worse, she printed it on the front page of a newspaper.  So, does that mean I'm supposed to trust a newspaper then?  One that takes things out of an email and doesn't check it for facts?  ::MonkeyHaHa::  No matter whether it's on paper or on a computer screen, I guess we have to try to figure out what's what.  ::rhino::  What was funny was how adamnent she was about her "reliable source".  Wonder if it was the mayor?   ::MonkeyJnBox::  Gotta love small towns. 

With the Anthony trial set to begin in a few weeks I have been considering upgrading my cable TV package to include the TRU channel. But I've read some complaints that TRU trial coverage is typically more about the talking-heads and less about showing the courtroom proceedings. I want to watch the trial, not listen to color-commentary.

What do you think? Does TRU do a good job? Are there other options? Help!

That's all I can watch it on. And it isn't very good. You miss so much because of commercial breaks and their talking heads. You miss most of whats going on and so far when they have had the long hearings they have only covered half of them. I don't know if they will do that during the trial.

thanks GE...I haven't listened to any weather related news today at all so I have no idea what is going on..

I don't know about anyone else in the path of these storms but I am getting so tired of the day in, day out rain, sirens going off, high winds.  The flooding is getting extreme in our area (the Ohio river is flooding, area rivers are getting warnings for flooding).  High winds and tornado warnings are happening every day and at least two or three times daily.  Tomorrow will be our very extreme weather and I am already dreading it.  My hubby said he is staying home tomorrow from work to "protect" our home and property.   ::MonkeyKiss::  I told him nothing he could do to stop it if it hits our area.  This is worst than last year when Nashville flooded.  I think they said 1997 was the worst we have had it as far as flooding.  I just know I cannot hardy go any longer without sleep.  Too many sirens during the nighttime and I really hate storms after dark. 

All monkeys in the path of these storms please stay safe and alert.  It is bad.  Hopefully we will see a break about Thursday.

You're in my prayers Blue Moon.  The daily tornado watches/warnings are wearing on me too, but fortunately we have not been getting much rain...yet.  So we haven't had the flooding problems.

The weather here today has been really weird, so I'm watching these storms very closely.  My fur babies are all obviously very nervous too.  My lap can't hold them all at once!

Watch your fur babies.  Most don't like these kind of storms. 

I just got home and already Tornado warnings are just to the west of us.  It will be a long night and long day tomorrow.  Suppose to get another 1-2 inches rain tonight and also 1-2 inches tomorrow.  Believe me we do not need anymore rain.  I slept through a storm at 2am this morning so today I bought home my radio which is also a weather radio.  I will plug it in tonight and turn it on before I go to bed.  I guess I am exhausted from so many nights of this going on and losing sleep.  We are under a tornado watch, Flood warning, and the tornado warning is only 60 miles west of us.  This scares me especially at night.

Muffy I know you are in and out. Just making sure you haven't been hit with any of this awful weather that's been going on here in Texas. That you aren't close to any of the wild fires. I know you aren't up here in North Texas but they have had so many south of us.  That's it. Just wanting to make sure all is okay in your neck of the woods. 

So far, I've been very fortunate in avoiding the wildfires, tornadoes, golf ball sized hail, floods and high winds.  I'm not sure how long my luck will hold out, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  It looks like it's going to be a long season.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

We have been lucky too. Just rain and lots and lots of thunder and lightening.  I am worried about our Alabama Monkeys I just read where 61 people so far have died. Every time I check the number keeps going up. Prayers for all the families that have been touched by all this bad weather.

I think you are right Muffy we are in for a long season.

Sadly, it looks like the numbers of dead and injured in the storms in Alabama are going to increase in the coming days as searches continue.   ::MonkeyNoNo::

What a harrowing night!!  ::MonkeyEek::

Geez...... I've never been so scared due to weather! The power just came back on and it's 4:15am but it's going to take hours before I get the adrenaline level down enough to sleep! At one point, the hail was hitting so hard that you couldn't hear yourself think. I had gone to the den which has windows in the front but is 3/4 underground on the backside. There's a pool table on that end, and I grabbed KuBear and ducked under it! I've been catching up with local news and they've been showing pictures of tennis ball size hail that viewers have sent in. When daylight comes, I'm sure it will show lots of damage to property. I hope everyone stayed safe!

It's official........... the next time they are calling for weather like this, I will not be alone. Call me chicken, but I don't like being that scared by myself!  ::MonkeyHaHa:: Fear like that is best shared! 

How do people who live in tornado alley do it?   ::MonkeyNoNo:: Before the power went out, the warnings were non-stop. John even got an auto-call advisor on the landline to take cover!  Apparently, Bristol, Abingdon, and Greenville were really hard hit.

Spring has sprung, and if it's going to behave like this, I'm ready to usher Summer in!

Killer tornadoes and thunderstorms left at least 194 people dead across five Southern states, and officials said Thursday they expected the toll to climb.

Alabama bore the burnt of the severe weather - with a staggering 128 confirmed deaths so far and the city of Tuscaloosa leveled by a massive, mile-wide tornado.

"We expect that toll, unfortunately, to rise," Gov. Robert Bentley told ABC's "Good Morning America."

Officials reported 32 dead in Mississippi and 15 fatalities in Tennessee. Another 11 were killed in Georgia and eight in Virginia

These tornadoes are just devastating.  I heard on Fox News earlier this morning that there are usually about 100 tornadoes during the month of April; this April, there have been over 800 so far.

Glad that monkeys are safe...sorry for the families in the storms who have lost loved ones or their homes

Thursday morning, East Tennesseans along
with most of the South are recovering from
deadly storms.

In the 10News viewing area Cocke and
Greene counties were the hardest
hit.  Greene County officials are reporting
five fatalities.  WCYB in the Tr--Cities is
reporting that 7 people are dead in
Washington County, VA.  Bradley County
was also hit hard with five confirmed dead
in Cleveland.
Knox County dipatchers report a mudslide
on Sherrill Blvd. in west Knoxville near
Parkwest Hospital.  City Works crews are
efforting a clean-up.  10News has a crew
en route.

Further to the south, Chattanooga had one
confirmed fatality.  Power lines are still on
the ground and multiple roads are blocked.

Fort Loudon Electric Cooperative says that
as of 4:00 am Thursday morning 19,033
customers were without power in the
Blount, Loudon, and Monroe
counties.  Crews are working around the
clock to restore power.

CBB so glad you are okay.  Hope all our monkeys in the south are okay.  Yesterday was so devastating.  I agree if this is what  spring is going to be like I say we just jump to summer. 

GE, can we just skip summer also, fall is a beautiful time of the year! ::MonkeyCool::

Sending prayers and loving thoughts to all our southern monkeys. The storms moved through here over night and like CBB, the tornado warnings just kept coming. No local damage that I am aware of. Last I heard VA had 8 deaths.

The problem here is that the ground is so saturated that it is not going to take much wind to uproot trees, and I am surrounded by trees.

I hope things improve in your area SuzieQ, and you stay safe.

Just checking here on our monkeys.  I have very good older friends who lived through Hurricane Camille when it came through at night years ago and stalled over Nelson County, VA.  Nighttime hurricanes and tornadoes are so dangerous because you can't see them and people are asleep...bad combination.  People tend to wait until they can see or hear something and by that time it's too late.  The average warning time, at best, for a tornado is 13 minutes. Few people can get to safe shelter that quickly.  With nighttime storms, many people blow off the watches and warnings and go on to bed.  Instead, they need a battery powered or hand-crank radio turned on loud enough to hear and set to a station broadcasting Emergency alerts or a NOOA radio.  They need to check the weather before bed and if at all possible, check it periodically during the night.

Daytime storms are no exception-a lot of people ignore the watches and the warnings, rather than prepare and take cover.  Even with the best equipment, forecasters are going to miss it because the weather is still unpredictable and uncontrollable. I know it's not always convenient to prepare and take cover, but it beats dying any day. Last weekend we had just walked into a Walmart and I went to the restroom.  I overheard someone say Walmart had just announced to a tornado warning.  We immediately left (monitoring the car radio for alerts) and went to a nearby relative's basement where we huddled for a few hours.  Days later we saw pics of the NC Lowe's.  ::MonkeyNoNo:: 

Having recently spent time huddled with family in a tight space, I was very thankful for a Red Cross family member who always alerts me to bad weather and has taught me how to pack an emergency kit.  She often mans emergency shelters, so she's my go-to on what to pack for an extended stay.  The Red Cross website has lots of info.

I'm still hoping this could be why some of our Alabama monkeys haven't checked in...

I hope they're all alright, and that we will hear from them soon!

The company has set a goal to restore power to 95 percent of customers who can take service by the end of the day Wednesday.

Glad that everyone is ok from the storms

It was only by the Grace of God that it missed us.  It was heading right for us and it took a turn and wiped out Pleasant Grove.  I have five kids, a great dane, two boxers, my husband my cat and myself hunkered down.  You could hear the roar.  Pleasant Grove is completely wiped out as is Hackleburg.  Major devestation in Tuscaloosa, Pratt City, Fultondale, Gardendale.  I have never seen anything like this!
The saddest story was the 7 week old baby missing in PG.  Praise God they found him the next morning.  His mother didn't make it.

Thank you for checking in with us Lucky.  I'm so glad to hear you, your family and pets are safe!    What a scary experience though.   I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be for the people suffering from the storms and tornadoes. Hi IBE - yes I finally heard from Anna yesterday and she is OK.  She was out of power for a while.

Thank you Klaas I am glad Anna's okay. So many of the monkeys were in harms way. Prayers for all of the families that were in the path of the destruction of the tornadoes.  Every time I watch a video clip of them my heart breaks for the people that went though them. It is scary to watch I can't imagine how scary to have gone thru them.

Yes, I am OK.  And pretty much speechless for a big change, lol.  Power out for 4 days then another day to get internet back.  Also have phones again.

But I am so thankful just to be alive and have no damage as so many were not that lucky.

Does anyone know if the two children in Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga have found their parents yet? 

I will check back later as I am still shakey.  The only real danger I was in was from things falling from the sky like sheet metal and sections of guardrail.  My immediate area did not take any direct hits.  I don't even know how many are still listed as missing.  But at least now we can get news which makes everybody feel better just to know what is going on out there.

So glad to hear Magnolia and Hudson are OK.  Was bad in that area I believe.

I am glad you are okay, Anna.  I worried about you.  I know how you feel about speechless.
It has all been overwhelming.  The total devastation is just horrible.
Hudson saved the day yesterday when he chased down a power company truck from
South Carolina and stood in front of it barking until he got them to follow him home.
They had our power fixed in about an hour.  Those guys were impressed with my boy,
as was I.  I think he was sick of eating mayo sandwiches. First thing I did was make
a pot of coffee for me and some cornbread for Hudson.
We had no damage to the house, but it did cut a wide path in the woods right
behind me.  I found records from a Tuscaloosa doctor's office in my front yard.
Tuscaloosa is 80 miles from here.
Thanks to you all for thinking of me.  I know how I worried about 2NJ when we couldn't
hear from her.  That is why I had my brother email Klaas.

Back in 2005 and the Natalee Holloway case there were a group of SM members and also CTV (Court TV) members that would bash Natalee and Beth and pretty much Joran could do no wrong.  In late 2005 we banned most of them from SM and also CTV banned many of them.  The CTV people started a new forum called CTV Refugees.  CTV Refugees turned into RefugeesUnleashed.  All of the banned members from CTV, SM and any other sites joined there.  They still have threads there bashing Natalee, Beth and Scared Monkeys. Members there put nasty words on in the comments of Natalee's candle site. Many of them are rude, crude and just out to get a "rise" out of people.   

I agree with you now that they do have some MP threads that seem to be OK.  I do read over there every day.  We still don't allow links back to RU though and those are the reasons why.  ::MonkeyCool::

We haven't been able to find Hudson a chicken yet.  The shelves are all bare in the

I think this story is so sad.....there was a small catering company in Tuscaloosa and
they had 25 people in preparing boxed lunches for an event at the University.
The building and all of the people were blown away.  They have found some of the
bodies five miles away from the site.   There are still 230 people missing in Tuscaloosa.

Blue Moon, I join you in remembering all the victims and their families. Fema was in Glade Springs yesterday evaluating needs. I can't even imagine their job in Alabama....... It looked impossible there and the devastation in Alabama is so much more widespread! I've been speaking to a friend in Chatanooga, and they too are having a difficult time. I hope we don't have storms like that ever, ever, again!

Received gorgeous king crab this morning.....so....the crab legs were steamed and the roast is on hold.  There was so much crabmeat in those legs.  The leftovers are ready for a salad or maybe a casserole side dish. Yum...

For the last couple of years, I cook traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, but on Christmas have gone to steak for the beef eaters, and King Crab Legs for the seafood lovers. It's so much easier and costs about the same considering all the trimmings that go along with Turkey.

In my area anyway, King Crab has gone SKY high, and if they don't come back down, I'm going with Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches........... and Candy Canes for dessert!   ::MonkeyEek::

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's day.

I am fortunate enough to still have my Mom and spent the day yesterday with her.  Set up her gazebo, tilled the garden, planted 200 hills of potatoes, took off her curtains and beat them outside, got her water turned on outside, made her dinner then came home to do laundry as daughter was leaving on her band trip at 3:00am this morning.

Seeing kids at 3:00am at school packing buses is pretty funny.  I think all of them were in their jammies with luggage and pillows in hand and most of them had not slept yet.  They are driving straight through to their destination which is Victoria and should be there at 11:30 tonight.  Long drive but they get a week of fun on the island and away from school.

Tamikosmom, if you read here, what is the weather like today in the Fraser valley?  They are scheduled to catch the 9:00pm ferry so I am guessing they will be rolling through your part of the woods around 7:00pm tonight. 

NR - Thought I'd pass this on re: Janet, this was just prior to Mrs. Chretien being found in Nevada.  She didn't mention whether they would still be stopping for the services since family was headed to the states.

This Northern Fur Seal was released back into the wild after being rehabilitated at the Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre in British Columbia (located on Salt Spring Island). I took this photo last weekend at the Grand Californian Adventure Hotel inside
the lobby - The Premiere of the new Pirates of the Caribbean film was at 5 pm.
I was lucky enough to be there for the weekend. Johnny Depp and a whole lot of
celebrities were there and staying at the same hotel. I talked to them
for a few minutes - lots of hotel security & tour guides taking the stars around.

It was the most amazing weekend!
My photo was so dark because it was inside the hotel lobby, and it's rather dark inside the hotel, so I tried to lighten it up, that's why the quality looks funky, but at least I got the shot.

Please pray for my Sister in Law.  They have been trying to find out the cause of her right sided eye blindness.  She has a brain tumor.  It is wrapped around both her carotid artery and will squeeze it off eventually and is around her optic nerve which is causing her to lose her vision.  This is the parent of the child who lost his life in a tragic accident a couple of years ago.  It was not his fault.  This family has just been through too much.  My heart bleeds for them.

Oh how cute.  They sure do grown up so fast.  Klaas, she is a cutey.  Always has been since birth.  I bet it just kills ya not being able to see all these changes she is going through (in person is what I mean).

I am off to the Shenandoah Valley for vacation next week.  Looking forward to it.  Hope I don't miss too much on the Caylee case.  I know I will miss sneaking a peak during the day at work.

Three of my aunts that I hadn't spent time with in many years, sang it to my grandmother in CICU a year ago in July, along with He Touched Me.  That evening she had a seemingly miraculous recovery and went from the brink of death that morning, to a regular room laughing and singing with all of us by midnight.  My grandmother went to Heaven peacefully in her sleep in October, but I'll always remember and be thankful for that day.

Hi Mere - Thanks, yes she will be walking soon! Since I happen to know that San has gone to the pet store I'll tell you the approximate ages.

Two older ones (siblings) are about 1.6 years (male and female)
One they got a few months back is now 6 months (female)
One they got this week (Rusty) is 9 months (male)

IMO, in about 5-6 months I fully expect to see a litter of pups even though all but the yougest two have been "fixed"  ::MonkeyWink:: ::MonkeyWink::

The two older ones are 2 years old now.

I don't want any more pups.  I told my sister tonight I know your tricks and you better get her fixed because we can't have all these puppies running all over the house.

I had to laugh at the Grooms cake.  That is funny. So glad Bubba did well at the wedding. The brides cake was beautiful.  Your son and new daughter look lovely but it does look warm. The water bottles with their names is cute. But did the people drink the water or save them for remembrances?

The dress was sleeveless and I had taken the jacket off, even though it was open weaved (crotchet), trying anything to cool off a little! I had ordered the dress PLENTY large, thinking I'd get it altered to fit. I couldn't find anyone who would touch that crotchet for alterations and the jacket was really too big. I did find someone to add two tiny snaps to hold it in place and that's what John was trying to help with. Honest, GE.......... I'm not being overly critical......... my hair was AWFUL, and the front's much worse than the back....... the "bangs" that usually are swept to one side were straight down in my eyes!   ::MonkeyNoNo:: Oh well, the day wasn't about me anyway, but John looked so nice in his tux, that I do sort of hate it, and those pics will be around a long time......   ::MonkeyHaHa::

CBB, the wedding was perfect.  I am so glad the bride and groom enjoyed their day and it was certainly made to be their day.  It doesn't get any better than that.  What did you end up doing with the arrangement in your car?

The chocolate looks so delicious, no wonder it was such a big hit.  The cake of the pup is so cute and the bride's cake is awesome.  I am not sure why you are complaining about your hair, it looks lovely from the back.  I guess I will have to wait to see the front pictures to see why you are worried.  If that is the worse thing that happened all day, be grateful, at lease Aunt Harriet didn't fall in the punch bowl or anything to that extent.

CBB, got to tell ya your pictures are "Perfect".  The cakes, the Son and new DIL, your sweety, the flowers, the bag pipes----I just love it all.  You can be very proud of your son and his new bride.

I just got back home from vacation.  I went to Shenandoah Valley (Woodstock, VA) and visited my ancestors homeland---Fort Valley, VA.  I bought a book called "Welcome to Fort Valley,,,,,The History and Culture of Virginia's "Valley Within A Valley"".  Me and hubby were driving around the Seven Fountains area where my ancestors are from and there is a woman and man walking the old road, we passed them, I told my hubby to back up--I want to talk to them and see what info there can give me on the area.  So I am talking to this guy about my family and asking where exactly the ancestors land was and I told him I got this book about the area and I loved it.  Well, his wife asked me if I had any idea who I was speaking to?  I told her NO and she said he is the one who wrote the book.  I absolutely went wild that I was sitting here talking to the man who wrote that great book.  He told me everything he could of the area, told us where to find the land (turns out the land was a former spa called Burner Springs because it had seven fountain springs on the land and they bought the land from my ancestors).  I found the land by the landmark he told me to look for.  I now have LOTS of photo's of the land, the springs, the lake, the creek etc. This may not be of interest to most of you but I was just so happy to be able to visit my great-great-great-great grandfathers land back in the 1750-1800's.  So now I am into the 1600's which will take me back to Ireland to find the remainder of the family.

Also, we were so close to Gettysburg that we drove the additional 130 miles and visited the Gettysburg National Battlefield and Cemetary.  It was awe inspiring.  The land, the monuments, the cemetery which is also where Abe Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address.  I took pictures of each states monument which were erected about 1900.  I couldn't find Kentucky so I asked about a park employee about it and he explained that Kentucky did not have any regiments in the battle BUT they did contribute a monument and it was erected at the spot of Lincoln's address and it is dedicated to native son.  It was fantastic.

Sorry to tell this but I was so excited about my trip I had to tell someone!!!  My son just doesn't understand all my excitement about this.   ::MonkeyTongue:: ::MonkeyTongue::

Blue Moon, how exciting!  So glad you were able to find the information and take pictures to document your family's history!  One of my sons has been to Gettysburg with his grandparents, both sons and DH absolutely love history so he really enjoyed going there.

Klaas, only problem with going to Ireland is I DO NOT FLY.  I have an extreme fear of flying (heights, dizziness to the point of passing out).  Cannot even drive across big bridges (in our area the Ohio River).  I have to check maps out before we leave and see what bridges I cannot drive across.  You say take a ship over to Ireland---no can do.  Extreme fear of water also.  Heights and water get me every time.  You think I am kidding-get this, I quit a job once because they expected me to fly to their home office.  I informed them I would not fly before I accepted the job and it was no problem to them at that point and even said I would not have to fly.  Three months later all that had changed and they informed me I would have to every quarter for meetings.  Imagine their surprise when I gave my notice.  He could not believe it.   ::MonkeyJnBox:: ::MonkeyCool::

I don't know what to do! They've gotten so brazen that they don't fly away when I peck on the window!
It's illegal to shoot them......... I'm not sure I could do that anyway, but I can't afford to "feed the birds"!

It looks like the peckerwoods woodpeckers are going after deck rail.  I wonder if it could be bug infested?  Look closely at it.  See any larvae (sorry, I know we've about had enough of bugs and larvae)

Question:  How can I keep woodpeckers from eating my wooden house?
Answer:  Vinyl siding!  :-)
   Seriously, woodpeckers don't eat wood.  There are three reasons that they might be pecking on your house.  Either they are drumming to declare their territory, making a hole for a nest, or harvesting termites or other bugs.  Are they just making noise, and lots of it and really loud?  That would be drumming.  They typically like something really resonant to drum on.  I've also heard of them drumming on metal stovepipes and gutters if the resonance is right.  A piece of hard, dry wood oriented vertically and nailed at the bottom only might give them something more attractive to drum on.  You should probably roughen it so they have something to grip.  You may have to put it under an eve or something to keep it dry.
   If they are making one round hole in the siding, they are making a nest.  You may have to put up a woodpecker nest box nearby and cover over the hole they've been making in the house.  You could even mount the nest box right over the hole.  If they've already completed the hole and laid eggs you might as well let them hatch and fledge because they won't be doing any more damage.  After a few weeks they will leave the nest and then you can go cover it.
   If they are making lots of small holes in your siding or breaking off loose shakes, then the woodpecker probably isn't the real problem, it is just an indicator.  Woodpeckers eat bugs and prefer termites, bark beetle larvae, carpenter bees and so on.  They are experts at finding them.  If they have found them in your house you need to get the real problem taken care of and the birds will go somewhere else.  In this case you should probably thank them for notifying you of this problem.

Thanks, Muffy! Yes, I've had a problem with wood bores (carpenter bees...... no offense, Muffy  ::MonkeyTongue::) for a couple of years. John and I argued about it because he kept saying they were great pollinaters. I finally called an exterminator 2 weeks ago. He checked for termites, and found none but did find multiple holes on the underside of the handrail from the bees. He sprayed and got rid of them but said I'd need to plug the holes in August. Obviously the bores have hollowed out sections of the rail and the woodpeckers are going after eggs. I guess that's why I was supposed to plug the holes in August, so the hatchlings couldn't get out?

What's done is done, but I've got to stop those woodpeckers! I'll call back the exterminator!

Putting up a suet feeder won’t get rid of woodpeckers, but it will probably distract them from putting more holes in your home. I've always had woodpeckers OUT in the yard, but this is the first time they've been destructive to the house or deck!! I'll arm myself with the hot sauce in the morning and give the rails a good coating!!

The foil sounds like it might work, but I would put it with the shiny side down, dull side up.  If birds can see their reflection, they will be even more attracted and peck at it thinking it's another peckerwood woodpecker interloping in their territory and peck at it even more.  For about a month every spring, I live through male cardinals pecking at my house windows and with bird poop down the doors of my vehicles parked outside because the male cardinals keep going after the side mirrors.   ::MonkeyHaHa::

Yes, they love admiring themselves.  If you fold your side view mirrors in when you are not using the car, that helps.

Absolutely precious.  She IS growing up fast.

I have to step away from Caylee for a while.  I didn't realize how much time I had devoted to this sweet angel until today when I cleaned my house, much needed I would add also.  I started in on the house this morning at 7:00 and did not finish until 6:00 this afternoon.  It was a wreck.  I had to even clean the carpet in the living room.  At least it kept my mind off the injustice done to Caylee.

I will NOT watch, read, listen to anything the defense, KC, A's have to say.  The best thing we can do is encourage others nationwide to follow suit.  I am optimistic that KC will not be a millionaire when this is over.  She will follow in the footsteps of Joran.

They go into heat ever 4 to 6 days and pop 7 -12 babies after being prego for about 25 days.  She will more than likely have the next litter before these are old enough to take a trip to the pet store.

I was wondering if gerbil moms don't eat their babies like hamsters do? I had a hamster when I was a kid that had 12 babies (they are born BALD, btw), and ate all but 2 of them. Then when one of the survivors was almost as big as she was she ate his leg off.

The pet store told us that could happen if they did not have enough water, or if mom was just a a bad mom.  All our babies made it and are fine so I guess she had enough water and is a good mom.

I'm glad your little mom is a good one. The cannibalistic hamster that I had was pure evil. She had babies the morning after I bought her so she was already preggers. She was solid white and I had named her 'Sweetie'.

I believe some people are in such deep shock over the Casey verdict that they are trying to recoup. I've never seen a reaction to any event to compare to that one and it was to me, like a kick in the gut that knocked the breath out of me and it is taking me awhile to catch my breath.

There's no doubt in my mind they will be back.
