It reminds me of Casey having a "Nanny".  Seems to make them more important to be mysterious.  Doesn't work for me.

Should we start guessing now?

Does Casey Anthony have a legally qualified defense team?

The state raised the issue in a motion filed today.

WFTV-Channel 9 explained the story quickly. Anchor Martie Salt noted that Jose Baez isn't qualified to try a death-penalty case, and that Terence Lenamon of South Florida, who is qualified, is no longer on the case.

WESH-Channel 2 put the story at the top of its 6 p.m. news. Reporter Bob Kealing contacted Baez's spokeswoman, who said the issue wasn't a big deal. "She said in just a few weeks, they plan to introduce a new death-qualified lawyer at their next court hearing," Kealing said. "But if this trial does go as planned in October, that means that this new lawyer they're bringing on would have only about five months to get up to speed in a very complicated capital murder case."

WKMG-Channel 6 handled the story quickly, too. Anchor Jacqueline London said the state asked for a hearing to learn who the new attorney will be and the defense filed an objection saying that wasn't necessary. The new attorney will be announced before the next court hearing on May 28, London said.

OK, Now I really have to question what "Highly qualified & Outstanding DP qualified" attorney would want to join this circus.  Seems like an oxymoron to me!

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Prosecutors filed a motion Thursday to determine if Casey Anthony has an attorney qualified to handle a death penalty case in Florida.

Her lead attorney Jose Baez does not have proper credentials to handle a death case, but he can handle the trial is he works with a lawyer who is qualified in Florida.

Last year, Terrace Lenamon, who has worked death penalty cases, was part of Anthony's team, but according to the motion he "is no longer involved in the representation of Miss Anthony."

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter Caylee, whose remains were found in December in woods not far from her Orange County home.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, and according to Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure, attorneys must meet certain minimum standards to handle death cases. These standards, for example, include requirements about the number of trials "of serious and complex" cases, such as murder.

Baez's spokeswoman said the defense plans to introduce a new counsel qualified to handle death penalty cases at a court hearing on May 28.

That is exactly it.   He has not retained anyone for sure yet or they would announce who it is.   Ummm, Baez no matter who you get jaws arent going to drop and the State isnt going to shake in the knees.  Grow up maroon!

Defense says new attorney will be revealed later this month

Prosecutors want to know who is qualified on Casey Anthony's legal team to handle a death-penalty case, according to paperwork filed Thursday in Orange Circuit Court.

The defense team once had Miami-attorney, Terence Lenamon, who can handles capital punishment cases, helping with the case.

However, he is no longer involved in Anthony's case.

Florida requires attorneys -- who meet certain qualifications --be involved in death penalty cases

The lead defense attorney, Jose Baez, is not qualified to be lead on a death penalty case.

Baez's spokeswoman, Marti Mackenzie, said Baez filed an objection to the motion. She said the issue will be moot soon. A new death-qualified attorney has joined the team and will be at the next hearing later this month.

She would not identify the attorney.

"At that time, the defense will introduce the highly qualified and outstanding death-qualified attorney as the newest member of the defense team," she said.

Anthony, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee Marie. The toddler's remains were found in December less than a mile from her family home.

In October, the state announced it was not going to seek the death penalty.


After the remains were found, prosecutors changed their minds. In April, the filed paperwork, stating they were going to seek the death penalty.
