Wow did she break things open.

Very smart lady.

more "breaking news" from fox....

Do you guys feel sorry for mama VDS, or do yall think she's covering up crap too?
Just curious for your thoughts....

I honestly think the woman is so confused at this point that she doesn't know what to think.

I do feel for her in a way, I don't think she really has any idea what her son and husband is capable of. I think she suspects something, because she made the comments last pm about why didn't LE pick up her son and the bros as soon as Natalee went missing. But I don't think she knows the details. Mr. VDS was probably scared if he told her, she would melt down, however, I think she is close not to that.

Past entries or reports have described her at "out there."  She is a self-described "spiritual" person.  She teaches art.  She's in denial about her little boy's behavior.  The fact that she refers to him as "good boy" is telling.  The poor woman is well-meaning but out of touch with reality.  She just doesn't get it and lives in "Anita-world" where everything operates according to her reality.  When the real world intrudes, like the past couple weeks, it's confusing and puzzling to her.  I've known people like her--we all have--and she's not involved in this.

Other than obviously being a crappy mother who didn't care where/what her kids were......I don't think she is personally responsible...

HOWEVER, exactly how many searches for Natalee did she and her family participate in??????

I have never heard of her doing anything helpful - only heard of her endlessly being quoted as saying her sonny boy was "perfect"....

lack of doing something/anything is just as telling.....

And what prey-tell are you doing that is helpful?

"If" and I do mean if, you actually finally have something half-way intelligent to contribute here other than garbage and "fuel-to-fire" posts, I believe someone might actually conversate with you.

Telling of what?  Are you implying that she is covering up for the son and father and knows what happened?  I really doubt it.  Listening to her pour her heart out to Greta was revealing.  It showed she is oblivious to the reality around her.  They would never have confided in her.  She would have marched into the police and told on them immediately.  That's her reality and it bears no resemblance to the real world.

I fully agree!!!  I don't even think she's an oblivious mother.  This kid has no record, his past appears half way normal, he was loved, got good grades and played sports!  Somehow he snapped.  It does NOT mean he had a bad mother.

I think the mother is somewhat oblivious........she made the remarks that her son does not smoke, gamble drink, etc.....and a few minutes later she made the remark that he is hard to wake up in the morning.    Sheeesh, if I stayed out partying all night I would not be able to get up in the morning either.

Wow, what a backhanded compliment. Judgmental, much?  I missed the memo that stated being "spiritual" and an art teacher somehow makes someone less of a human being than you.  Here's a newsflash -- we don't know these people. Any of them. We may sit on our perches (some with sceptors in hand, apparently) and pass judgments on them, but that doesn't make them real.   Try some kindness and real compassion, lady. It does wonders for the soul.

That is a compassionate portrayal of the poor woman.  No, I'm not being judgmental--just trying to put forth an explanation of why Anita seems so out of touch with the facts and reality we see.  She is confused and in a great deal of pain.  She didn't see this coming at all.  It blindsided her --big time.  Why?  Because she chooses her reality, just as we all do.  It's just that some people choose the features of their reality very selectively, ignoring those that are ugly or hateful or cruel.   They build their world the way they want it--not always the way it is.  It's most likely easier to do this on a small, tropical island working as a schoolteacher and the wife of a respected citizen than as, say, living in NYC working as a waitress and married to a laborer.  Reality doesn't intrude nearly as much and her world is quite safe.  However, this reality--this investigation--has shattered her world and we are viewing her inability to understand.  I'm not judging her--just sharing an observation and trying to understand why she acts the way she does.

You have to admit this Joran Van Der Sloot is one cool customer. If we are to believe he killed Natalee. Look at his immediate actions.

1. He shows up at school the next day and brags about having sex with Natalee.

2. He's back at the casino the next night gambling.

3. When the Twittys show up he was willing to talk to them, it was his dad and Deepak that kept saying "don't say anything"

4. He tells his mom that prison isn't so bad, and that when Natalee shows up he's gonna kick her butt in front of Beth because of all the trouble she's gotten him into.

For a 17 yr old that just comitted a murder? This guy is rock solid. Rolling Eyes

Inspector, I have to concur.

On No. 3; could someone tell me when they heard that Deepak also said to JVDS "don't say anything!"

Yes, I felt that about the pond and area near their home.  For some reason I'm tending to believe the brothers dropped Joran and Natalee at the Marriot...and if something did happen there..the water is sooo close.
I just can't picture the Dad picking up Joran and a body...how do you do that and not get caught,  or risk being seen?

Plus, the helicopters did their initial search over the Marriot beach area...small but possibly important.

I agree that Dad didn't pick up Joran and a body from the beach.  Joran would have needed to call Dad, and there haven't been any rumors about a phone call to his home after 2 am.  I still have this odd feeling that Joran took her to his apartment, though, seeking privacy and something happened there.  His mother was out of the country, and his father in the house.  He would have felt safe with her there.  How did they get there?  walk from the beach?  nah...  call Deepak to pick them up?  nah... Deepak would have said "what am I? a taxi?"  What about meeting Croes at the beach and he gave them a ride to Joran's house?  By then, Natalee may have been very out of it, but still conscious enough to get into the car.  This will be the interesting part of the series of events.

And....we don't know that the father was home either.

Anita van der Sloot insisted her husband had done nothing wrong and said Aruban authorities had arrested him because they were under pressure from the U.S. government and the news media to produce results.

"My husband is a man of integrity who has been working in the justice system 15 years and was taken without evidence," she said. "How can this happen? This is not about Natalee anymore. It's about enormous pressure from the states and the media."

Nice. Blame it on the U.S. A familiar MO as of late what with Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, etc.

None of these people (Joran, Paul, Gitmo detainees, Saddam Hussein, etc.) did anything wrong. It's just the sadistic cowboys from the United States love to interrogate or torture people for no reason.

This is nothing but a media ploy, and it's beneath contempt.

YEAH, ITS ALL BUSH'S FAULT! BUSH KILLED NATALEE! Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

And your point is..................?

The GITMO detainees are unlawfull combatants (terrorists) they are being given trials (military tribunals)  and many have been returned to their countries of origin.

AND SECONDLY THANKS TO US MEDIA ATTENTION ( READ PRESSURE ) THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES TOOK THIS CASE SERIOUSLY (WHICH I THINK IS VERY GOOD) WHEREAS AMY BRADLEY NEVER RECIEVED ANY ATTENTION , SO YES ONE MAY CONCLUDE THAT US PRESSURE HAS CERTAIN FACTOR IN THE WHOLE INVESTIGATION

I base my thoughts on this:

1.  kid regularly allowed to drink and gamble UNDERAGED

2.  kid allowed to stay out late at night on school night

3.  no family member has been of ANY help in finding or searching for natalee

4.  mother has been strangely silent except to endlessly repeat her sonny boy is perfect

5.  NO compassion has beeen shown Natalee's family by the VDS family

conclusion #1 - items 1,2 reflect BAD PARENTING
items 3,4,5 shows this family has no morals and all are in complicity.  none give a damn about Natalee - only care that sonny boy has been fingered.

conclusion #2 - thank god they aren't my neighbors.  i would move before i would have that kind of trash living next door to me.

I'm still looking for the quote I copied, but can't find it while skimming and trying to keep up here.  I made a mental note of it, at the time, which has stayed with me, but finding the exact wording right now is too time-consuming.

I know that when it was posted the first time, another poster said the same thing as one of our posters did today (maybe the same person) that maybe it was Natalee's perfume.  That is not what I thought, because I don't believe Beth was allowed into Joran's apartment over the garage on the visit--and that's where I would have thought perfume would have been.

No, it's mother's intuition and when Beth said it, I felt like most people, it was just her wishful thinking.

I will keep looking through my notes (I have many files full) but I want to keep up with the news here and elsewhere while it's breaking.  Sorry.

Thx for trying!

Hey guys, anything new?

I'm totally kidding, by the way.

The rumors are swirling once again, but I have to say, it brought out a bad side from Arubans, as most had a little snicker at the obvious discomfort of the Dutch community that one of their own had been arrested.

Brenda, are you going to post even more phone numbers of people who have nothing to do with the case?

This should be really obvious at this time that mama vds needs to be arrested also - at least for complicity.

MOre pressure on teh VDS's, the sooner poor Natalee's mother gets to give her daughter a decent burial.

If anita has "hurt feelings" and "feels picked on" - tough sh**. if she had bothered to raise that scum - all this wouldnt' be going on right now.

Yeahh and while we do that, let`s arrest the whole family vds as well, jeez talking about an objective view here. Scum? Where are you get  your 'inside' from? The last time I checked; NOBODY KNOWS WHAT EVIDENCE there is what we al do is speculate!! At least that was my thinking Shocked

<<It's interesting their law goes past the marital law we have it extends to the family.>>

Once again, I do not know the specifics of Aruban evidentiary law...

But, in the vast majority of U.S. jurisdictions, if a husband and wife are jointly involved in an ongoing or future criminal activity, the marital privilege cannot be invoked for communication related to that activity.

looks as though FOX is starting to back pedal a bit. this from the latest on their site: 2nd para

The arrest does not necessarily mean that authorities believe that
Paul van der Sloot knows what happened to Natalee, or if his son, Joran van der Sloot (search), was involved. But Aruban law gives authorities significant leeway to hold someone in custody without charging them with a crime as a way to find out more about an incident.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,160514,00.html

I don't think they are backpedaling. The info you posted is all true.  However, due to the laws preventing Dad from testifying against Joran, the arrest may mean it's bigger than the normal arrest in Aruba.  In other words, LE knows they can't elicit a kid's confession from the dad...so why arrest him for that?  It seems the arrest may be for more...like cover up...helping get rid of body, etc.
