ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Lawyers for Casey Anthony filed a motion (read motion) late Thursday that named the man who found Caylee Anthony's remains as a possible suspect in her death. Shortly after former meter reader Roy Kronk answered questions in a deposition on Thursday, Casey's defense filed the motion pointing the finger at Kronk.

Two of Casey Anthony’s lawyers appeared on national TV Friday morning to point the finger at the new 'suspect.' They said there is as much circumstantial evidence implicating Kronk as there is against their client.

Basically, the motion wasn't necessary, Kronk could have been questioned during the trial.
Motion was done in a very public way. . . .
Lawyer has qualified immunity, if he defames a person during trial that person cannot sue.
Any statements made outside of trial do not fall under that immunity

Defense: Roy Kronk 'Ignored' As Suspect In Caylee's Death

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's attorney filed a new motion to treat Roy Kronk, the former meter reader who found Caylee Anthony's remains, as a suspect in her death.

The motion was filed late Thursday and came after Kronk spent the day giving a deposition behind closed doors to the defense. The motion asks the court to allow the defense to introduce "prior bad acts" by Kronk.

Claiming evidence that Kronk "is involved in an imaginary world of fantasy and violence," the motion concludes by stating that "Roy M. Kronk should have been a suspect in this case."
"I haven't done anything wrong, so I don't have a reason to be fearful or troubled by any of this," Kronk said after his deposition was completed.

Kronk's attorney, David Evans, issued a news release on Thursday.

"In their zeal to defend Casey Anthony, defense counsel has filed papers with the court that are filled with allegations that have no basis in fact and falsely accuse Mr. Kronk of various types of bad behavior," the news release indicated.

Kronk will return for a second day of depositions in the case against Casey Anthony.
Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, Caylee. Kronk found Caylee's remains in December 2008 in woods near the Orange County home where the Anthonys live.

The new motion included information collected from Kronk's two ex-wives, as well as others who know Kronk.

The motion asks the court to allow "evidence indicating":

    * "Mr. Kronk's possible history of inappropriate behavior with young girls."
    * "That Mr. Kronk has a history of abusing, restraining, and holding women against their will."
    * "That Mr. Kronk has, in the past, used duct tape for the purposes of restraining women against their will."
Duct tape was found on Caylee's remains. The defense also claims Kronk told his son weeks before Caylee was found that he knew where her remains were located.

Before the motion was filed, an attorney for Kronk said there are some things in Kronk's past that he isn't proud of, but those things have nothing to do with his finding of Caylee's remains. The attorney said his client has always been honest about finding the missing toddler and how he made the discovery.

"He's become a witness and become a victim," said David Evans. "They just dumped a big pot of mud on his head and said, look at this guy. Having mud dumped on your head when all you did is find a young girl's remains is pretty hard for him to take."
Anthony Family Questions Kronk's Story
Anthony family attorney Brad Conway said his clients know what it's like to be scrutinized by the public, and they don't want the man who found their granddaughter to be treated unfairly.

"Personal issues versus what happened in regard to the discovery of Caylee's remains are two different things, and they want to give him the chance to be full and complete about what happened," Conway said.

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Andrea Lyon appeared to have their game faces on as the deposition began Thursday morning. Baez would only reveal that he expected the deposition would take all day.

The judge will still have to decide whether any of the allegations are admissible.
Baez Appears On 'Today' Show
Casey Anthony's attorneys appeared on NBC's "Today" show on Friday morning after filing the motion questioning Kronk's past.
Matt Lauer interviewed Baez and Lyon and asked whether the defense was simply trying to deflect attention from Casey Anthony.

"This is a situation where law enforcement never looked into this witness, who is a critical witness in this case, and never investigated this man's background," Baez said. "All we're frankly doing is bring this to the attention of the court.

Lyon was asked whether she believes Kronk was involved in Caylee's death.

"What we think is that there's as much circumstantial evidence implicating Roy Kronk as there is implicating my client and that the state and the police should have investigated him as a suspect," Lyon said. "He's the only one who has been with the body. He's the only one who magically discovers it. He takes a day off before he discovers it again in December."

Baez said he's not saying that Kronk is the killer, but he said that his testimony was questionable and that his background should be investigated.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An ex-wife of the former Orange County meter reader who discovered the remains of Caylee Anthony told the CBS "Early Show" that she thought her ex-husband was responsible for or involved in the girl's death.
In a taped video interview that was aired Friday on the "Early Show," Jill Kerley was asked about her former husband, Roy Kronk, who found Caylee's remains in December in a wooded lot near the Anthony family home in east Orange County.

Kronk was deposed Thursday by the defense team of Casey Anthony, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

"When you learned that Roy Kronk had found the remains of Caylee Anthony, what went through your mind?" a representative of Casey Anthony's defense team asked Kerley.

"That he had done it," she said.

"'Done it,' meaning?" the representative asked.
"He probably was the one that had murdered Caylee Anthony or had something to do with it," Kerley said.

Linda Kenney Baden, an attorney on Casey Anthony's defense team, said on the "Early Show" that Kerley's statements prove that authorities have not done their job in investigating Caylee's death.

"These people have no reason or motive to lie," said Kenney Baden, referring to Kerley, another ex-wife and a daughter of an ex-girlfriend of Kronk's.

"But it's an ex-wife, who may have an ax to grind," said Maggie Rodriguez of the CBS "Early Show."

"Listen, one ex-wife is dying of cancer. This is like a death-bed statement. It's incredible," Kenney Baden said. "The point about this is that no one investigated any of this."

Casey Anthony lead defense attorney Jose Baez filed a motion following Kronk's deposition "to introduce prior bad acts and other circumstantial evidence pertaining to Roy Kronk." The motion included DVDs of the interviews with Kronk's former family members.
The motion claims that Kronk has a history of abusing and restraining women with duct tape as well as holding them against their will. The motion also alleges that Kronk could have a history of inappropriate behavior with young girls.

"Sometimes he would, you know, walk in while I was putting clothes on," the daughter of Kronk's ex-girlfriend said.

She also claimed that Kronk would make comments about videotaping her having sex with animals. Kronk denies the allegations.

One of Kronk's ex-wives said Kronk kidnapped her and held her for two weeks against her will using duct tape to restrain her. Duct tape was also found on Caylee's remains, according to documents released in the case.

The defense also claimed Kronk knew the location of Caylee's remains and may have had possession of them in November 2008.

The defense said the prosecution only has circumstantial evidence against Casey Anthony in the first-degree murder case against her, and according to Florida law, for circumstantial evidence to prevail, all other options must be ruled out.

The motion asks the court "to allow Anthony to introduce at trial circumstantial evidence tending to indicate that a third party, and not Miss Anthony, is equally likely to be responsible for the death of the child Caylee Marie Anthony."

Kronk's attorney, David Evans, said his client has become a target of the Casey Anthony's defense team.
"Roy is the guy who has been selected, apparently, by the defense to be the guy to be dumped on, and they dumped on him big time today," Evans said.

Evan issued a news release Thursday evening stating his client is a witness, not a suspect.

"Shortly after adjourning the deposition, the Anthony defense team filed a motion, memorandum of law and accompanying materials suggesting that Roy Kronk, the individual who found Caylee Anthony's remains and repeatedly reported his find to law enforcement agencies, should be considered a suspect in the murder of Caylee Anthony," Evans said. "He voluntarily appeared today and truthfully responded to all questions asked by Anthony's attorney. He has cooperated fully with law enforcement from day one. He has nothing to hide, and has hidden nothing."

Evans said Kronk has always understood he may become a target of the defense.

"In their zeal to defend Casey Anthony, defense counsel has filed papers with the court that are filled with allegations that have no basis in fact and falsely accuse Mr. Kronk of various types of bad behavior," Evans said. "The state will respond to these papers in due course in the criminal proceedings. As for Mr. Kronk, he vehemently denies the allegations against him and is confident that he will be vindicated. In the meantime, as he stated early on in this case, no good deed goes unpunished."

Kronk first reported finding something suspicious in the woods near the Anthonys' home on Aug. 11, 2008, but after three phone calls, a deputy came out and said he found nothing. That deputy, Richard Cain, was later fired from the Sheriff's Office for lying to his superiors about his encounter with Kronk.

None of the new information will be heard by the jury in Casey Anthony's murder trial unless the judge rules for the defense on the latest motion and allows it into evidence.
The state has yet to respond to the new information, but Kronk is expected to be a key witness for the prosecution in the Casey Anthony case.

Casey Anthony, 23, has pleaded not guilty, originally claiming that a baby sitter had taken Caylee.

Hearings in Casey Anthony's check fraud and murder cases are scheduled for Dec. 11.

The Casey Anthony defense team hit the nation's airwaves this morning, and local stations studied those moves at noon.

"Part-legal maneuver, part PR offensive," WKMG-Channel 6 anchor Erick Weber described the media blitz.

The defense team filed a motion late Thursday pointing to meter reader Roy Kronk as a possible suspect in toddler Caylee Anthony's murder. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in her child's death. Kronk found the child's remains in December.

"The red flags were just unbelievable in this case," defense attorney Andrea Lyon told WKMG from New York. "Instead of investigating them, they [the investigators] basically kind of knocked out anybody who contradicted what Mr. Kronk had to say."

WKMG's Tony Pipitone noted that a jury wouldn't hear the defense team's motion unless the judge allows it into to evidence. Pipitone also said the state hasn't responded to the defense team's move.

On WFTV-Channel 9, Daralene Jones said Kronk "is being picked apart by Casey Anthony's legal team." WFTV replayed part of Lyon's interview with NBC's "Today."

In a report last night, WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer described the motion as "beyond a pathetic attempt -- this is a despicable act on the part of the defense in this case." Sheaffer said nothing connects Kronk to the Anthony family before he found the child's remains.
WESH-Channel 2 plays snippets of Lyon and fellow attorney Jose Baez on "Today." WESH also interviewed David Evans, Kronk's attorney, who said the defense had built its motion on comments by Kronk's estranged family.

"It was calculated to deflect attention away from Miss Anthony and over to Mr. Kronk," Evans said.

In another WESH report, Evans said, "They've dumped a big pot of mud over his head and said, 'Look at this guy.' " Evans said his client had become a witness and a victim.

Evans told WKMG, "Roy is the guy that has been selected, apparently, by the defense to be the guy to be dumped on, and they dumped on him big time."

In a report last night, WESH anchor Martha Sugalski said the station had talked to Baez. "He claims he's not saying Kronk is the killer but does call Kronk's testimony questionable and says his background should be investigated," Sugalski said.

ORLANDO -- Allegations that former meter reader Roy Kronk may have been involved in Caylee Anthony’s death are not only coming from Casey’s defense team, they’re also coming from Kronk’s own family.

The defense filed an enormous motion with the court late Thursday.

It includes video of interviews with Kronk's family members.

In the motion, lawyers stop just short of saying they believe Kronk killed Caylee, and they've uncovered some extremely incriminating aspects of Kronk's past.

Mort Smith, Defense Investigator: When you learned Roy had found Caylee's remains, what went through your mind?
Jill Kerley, Kronk’s Ex-Wife: That he had done it.
Smith: Meaning?
Kerley: He probably was the one who murdered Caylee Anthony or had something to do with it.
Kronk and Kerley divorced after four months.

“It was abusive -- mentally and physically,” Kerley said. “He beat me up in front of his dad and I had to go the hospital. He duct taped my hands one time.”

Defense attorneys are clearly trying to connect Kronk to duct tape found at the crime scene with Caylee's remains.

Kerley: He said it was 100 mph duct tape.
Smith: And how often did he duct tape you?
Kerley: On two occasions.
Crystal Sparks, another ex-wife of Kronk’s, was also interviewed.

“I think there's a lot of concern for Roy being around young girls,” Sparks said. “Roy is not heard from. Roy is not seen. Roy is just non-existent in our lives, which is great for us.”

During her interview, Sparks also spoke about alleged abuse with Kronk.

“He made threats. He made constant threats against me,” Sparks said. “It was not uncommon for him to say 'I should have killed you when I had the chance.' I heard that all the time.”

Kronk called 911 three times in August 2008, saying he saw something suspicious in the woods off Suburban Drive.

Two weeks before Thanksgiving and a month before he reported finding Caylee's remains, he called his son Brandon and told him he was going to be a hero and appear on TV.

“‘I know where Caylee is and I'm going to go get her,’” Sparks said, quoting her son Brandon.

Those two interviews are just two pieces of the puzzle Casey's lawyers are using to create reasonable doubt.

They indicate in their motions that Roy Kronk “knew of the location of Caylee Anthony's remains and indeed may have had possession or control of them in November 2008” and they wrote that “Roy Kronk, and not Miss Anthony, is equally likely to be responsible for the death of Caylee Anthony."
The more I think about it, the more my gut tells me he had something to do with it,” Kerley said.

After hearing about the motion, Kronk's attorney David Evans issued a statement:

"Today, the Casey Anthony defense team commenced, but did not complete, the deposition of Roy Kronk in the State v. Casey Anthony case. Casey's defense team claims they have a lot of reason to believe Kronk was involved. Their thoughts are based on interviews they did with Roy Kronk's ex-wives and girlfriends.

“I need you like now. I just found a human skull," Kronk said in the 911 call that led to finding Caylee's remains.

Nearly everyone, including the State Attorney's Office praised Roy Kronk when he found Caylee Anthony's remains, including her skull, in a wooded area on December 11, but the former Orange County meter reader is being picked apart by Casey Anthony's legal team, headed by attorney Jose Baez.

“They're doing what they’re expected to do. That is them trying to defend their client," Kronk’s attorney David Evans said.
Investigators cleared Kronk and said they don't believe he has anything to do with Caylee’s horrific death. But in a motion filed Thursday, Casey's attorneys claim Kronk is “equally as likely to be responsible for the death of the child."

Also, in a surprise move, they showed off the interviews they did with Kronk's ex-wives.

Jill Kerley said he beat her in 1992 and tied her up with duct tape. That's crucial, because duct tape was used to cover Caylee's mouth when she was murdered.

"He told me if I moved he would beat me," Kerley stated. "Roy talks so many untruths. When he does talk the truth, you just can't believe it."
WFTV legal expert Bill Scheaffer called it a low blow by Baez, who he says appears lost in his own case.

"The defense has continued to have a suspect de jour other than Casey Anthony," said Scheaffer. "This is beyond a pathetic attempt. This is a despicable act on the part of the defense in this case."

In other words, Baez and Anthony are walking a fine line with the accusations. So far, the defense has not spoken publicly about the bizarre turn of events.

There are allegations of Kronk's possible inappropriate behavior with young girls, stemming from an interview with the 23-year-old daughter of one of Kronk's ex-girlfriends who had married at the age of 15.

“Police should have investigated him as a suspect. There were so many red flags. It was a sea of red,” Casey’s attorney Andrea Lyon said.

Prosecutors have not talked publicly about the motions, but they have never called Kronk a suspect in the case and have maintained that Casey is responsible for her daughter's death.

And while it still does not answer who originally took Caylee, it does raise the significant possibility that Kronk may have planted the body. where it was found to obtain a financial benefit. And if he planted the body, one must question how he obtained the body, why he lied about how he located the body, and notwithstanding the significant evidence suggesting Casey was involved in Caylee’s death and disappearance – a jury would be left with the very real possibility that Roy Kronk was also involved in Caylee’s death. And unless the State explains that sufficiently, it leaves Reasonable Doubt.

This motion filed by Baez is the first legitimate and credible motion his team has filed. From a legal perspective, it correctly states the law regarding similar fact evidence. Casey's attorney go on the attack!
As previously predicted Casey Anthony's attorney goes on the attack.

He has been leading a well orchestrated attempt by the Anthony family to
manufacture a "Reasonable Doubt Case."

When a client is guilty and you have no defense you have to go on the offense.
You have to attack any possible person associated with the case.

Right now, today, that unfortunate victim is Ron Kronk the meter reader that found little Caylee Anthony's body stuffed in a trash bag and thrown in the marsh like so much garbage.

The guy has to relieve himself so he runs in to what was previously a swamp, he finds the body and reports it immediately to police.

The police are not stupid, they checked the guy out, he's not involved in Caylee’s disappearance but that won't stop the defense attorney from trying to ruin this guys life.

You see he knows going in that this guy is not guilty of anything.  Except now being a victim or target of opportunity!

It just doesn’t matter to the attorney he’s got a client to get off.  If he can pull it off, getting a baby killer off, he’ll become for a time anyway, the champion of defense attorneys!
All of his colleagues will know that he’s at the top of the food chain.

Casey’s attorney sees this poor guy as the gift from the devil that he's been looking for all along. Now rather than being forced to make the momma, or the daddy, or the brother, look like a possible suspect they can flog this poor guy.

Guess what now they can get some ex-wife (s) that sees her or their chance to get their 15 minutes of fame and stick it to the old ex-husband at the same time.

This guy might have even been a big jerk, don't know don’t really care it’s irrelevant to this case. But you can listen to the ex-wife and know full well that part of what she is saying is contrived.

Her part about the duck tape is pure fantasy, "I knew he likely did it" a total B grade movie "Crap-aola!"

This tactic of the attorney as well as that of this entire family is really sickening and predictable.

You can defend your client without ruining the life of an innocent person.

This circus now has another act in the person of the ex-wife they paraded on the morning news shows this morning.

She is so very believable with no reason to lie, other than revenge, a quest for attention, perhaps a few bucks coming her way?

You might be innocent Casey, just as Elvis might still be alive and living on an Island with J.F. K.

The news media needs to be very careful in how they give this or these persons “STORY or Stories” any air of credibility.

This is so much like how the security guard that saved people’s lives at the Olympics was treated.  Richard Jewell risked his life to save people and was nearly destroyed in the process.

This guy Ron Kronk, may or may not have been a great husband in the past, but in this case he is a hero.

He stepped up and did his civic duty by calling the authorities. By doing so he just may have made it possible for the true killer to be identified, arrested, and with God’s help prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Now looking at it from that prospective can you understand why the Anthony family would hate this poor guy.

Filing and publicizing the  latest  so-called ”Motion in Limine”  by the Anthony defense team, which would now seem to include Brad Conway, lawyer for George and Cindy Anthony, is an all-time low on a grand scale, even for this crew.  This so-called defense tactic, designed to shift the focus of blame away from their client Casey Anthony, is neither new nor unusual in this case.  It seems to have begun with allegations against Zenaida Gonzales, then, Jesse Grund, a former Casey boyfriend, to now a very vicious and public attack on an innocent citizen, former Orange County employee, Roy Kronk, the poor soul who had the misfortune to discover Casey Anthony’s handiwork of her little girl’s body dumped like garbage in the woods.

Casey’s defense lawyers would have us believe that Mr. Kronk killed the child and dumped her body in the woods so that he could later claim to “discover” the body for some financial gain, all the while risking becoming a lead suspect in her death,  subjecting himself to prosecution therefor, and the possibility of the death penalty.  Of all the allegations contained in the subject defense motion, there is not one scintilla of evidence connecting Mr. Kronk to the Anthony family, or little Caylee, prior to her death.  Instead, the motion contains nothing but a series of nasty attacks and allegations from individuals, all of whom have clear and obvious motives to fabricate and spin their recollections, regarding Mr. Kronk’s past.

I find it very telling that not one of these allegations levied against Roy Kronk had been made to either a law enforcement or other governmental agency, prior to the defense investigator’s inquisition.  Before we proceed further however, I think it important to address this so-called “Motion in Limine” for what it is.  A proper motion in limine, as the title suggests, is a request to the court made pretrial to exclude certain matters from being introduced, or even referred to, at trial. What a motion in limine is NOT is a request to INCLUDE certain matters at trial, which is exactly what the defense has done here.  Now, either these lawyers don’t know proper pleading mechanics, the Florida Rules of Evidence, the Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure, do not possess a Black’s Law Dictionary, or they have another agenda in filing this. Well, let’s just call it an in appropriate motion.  I believe it may well be the latter, although, it could well be the former, based upon their earlier filings.

This motion is nothing more than a blatant attempt to deflect and misdirect the court of public opinion from the stack of evidence against Casey Anthony, to the vilification of an otherwise innocent, but perhaps less than perfect, former public employee, by dragging up alleged garbage from his past.  By filing this motion and immediately traveling to New York to hype it  on the national morning show(s) might cause one to wonder just how easily lead they think the rest of us are.

Kronk’s past is totally irrelevant to the issue of who killed Caylee Anthony.  Ironically for the defense team, this attempt has fallen flat.  People are angry that these lawyers would drag this man through the mud and find this tactic appalling in its manner and approach.  One expects a vigorous defense from an attorney, but not at the expense of an innocent witness in the case.  It is yet to be seen what affect this out of court attack upon a State’s witness will have in the future upon the willingness of others to come forward to do the right thing. Hopefully our compassion for, and sense of responsibility to our fellow-man is greater than the effects of the outrageous conduct on the part of the Casey defense team.

Some of you may have read about, or may even remember a time when a United States  jr. senator from Wisconsin (1947-1957),  by the name of Joe McCarthy, was publicly accusing innocent citizens of being Communists.  Through his very public, highly-publicized and nationally-televised attacks, many innocent persons’ lives and careers were damaged or destroyed.  Finally, Joseph Nye Welch, a lawyer of one such victim,  had the guts to stand up at a senate hearing and asked  McCarthy: “You’ve done enough.  Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”

As officers of the court, Mr. Baez, Ms. Lyons and Mr. Conway, have you no sense of decency?  Stop these tactics. Our system of justice, its participants and the rest of the citizens observing  this case  deserve better.

Hi Monkeys.  I'm just so disgusted with all of this--Caylee and Shaniya and their lousy families who don't give a sh*t about them.  But in answer to the question of whether Casey's defense team has no sense of descency, well.. no they don't.  And I hope that Kronk sues the he!! out of them if they dare to breathe one word of an accusation outside of court.  I think he has a case against that fat ex-wife, too.  I mean, who would want to wrap her wrists with duct tape?  So she couldn't call her parents?  I am not inclined to do so, but I'll bet if I had someone wrap duct tape around my wrists I could still dial a phone, specifically 911.  Maybe someone else could do the experiment.  I'm too old and jaded with this case by now.

Yesterday the Anthonys supported Kronk.  Today their daughter's so-called attorney is accusing him of murder.  The Anthonys had better get with the program.  Casey is not going to like it.  And we all know how she acts when she gets in a snit.

Good evening, all!  * red-faced, huffing and puffing* Now that I've finally caught up with the tribe, I'm adding my outrage to the cries of the angry mob.  Isn't it "funny" how the rules change?  It's more than o.k. to try Jesse, Rev. Grund, Ricardo Morales, Amy Huzienga, and Roy Kronk in the media...but ohhhhhhh NO, not Casey.  How hypocritical!  I feel sorry for Mrs. Baez...her husband is certainly not respected at the city gate (per Proverbs 31:23).  To say Baez lacks integrity is an understatement.  If I were Mrs. Baez, I'd be embarrassed to be married to a man of his character.  I'm not judging the man, I'm judging the fruit of his behavior and the words of his mouth.  If I had to guess, I'd say fame and fortune are his gods.  My prayer is that Mark Nejame and Bill Shaeffer file complaints with the FL Bar Association.  IMO, Baez needs to be disbarred.  He had character issues to begin with and assassinating someone's character, in the guise of a motion (with pre-planned media appearances, complete with purchased plane tickets prior to said motion being filed), should be grounds for dismissal.  Hey, just one more thing he and Casey have in common...Pre-meditation! ::MonkeyWink::  He's certainly giving Defense Attorneys, as well as all Attorneys, a bad rep.  There should be a court martial procedure for Attorneys for Conduct Unbecoming an Attorney.
The Baez/Lyons/LBK motion is ludicrous.  It's nothing but smoke and mirrors and if this is the best they can do, they're pathetic lawyers.  Seriously, they'll only succeed in focusing even more attention on the the very evidence they're trying to discredit.  How did Kronk get Caylee from Zenaida Gonzales, if he did it?  How did he know where the Anthony's lived?  How did he get the laundry bag, trash bags, Henkel duct tape, Caylee's Winnie the pooh blanket, Caylee's doll, and the heart sticker from the Anthony home?  How did he gain access to their house, since the Anthonys did not report a break-in?  The Defense is going to be soooo slammed on this.  The State will rip them to shreds.  IMO, they are so full of their own importance and arrogance, they're headed for a major and public fall.  I hope Kronk has a legal basis to sue and does because Baez, LBK, and Lyons are knowingly bearing false witness "with malice aforethought"...you know, the same thing they accused the State's Attorneys of. ::MonkeyWink:: ::MonkeyWink::  I will be "absolutely" thrilled if during the trial, when the Defense is questioning Roy Kronk, he  asserts on the stand that he got the location from his girlfriend who overheard Casey telling Baez or Dominic Casey or the "Minister" where Caylee was.  I will laugh with glee.  IMO, the Defense is trying to bully Kronk into not testifying because they're afraid of that very thing.  They don't care if they destroy him-they "absolutely" cannot afford to have him testify where he got his info...obviously he got it somewhere and it was credible or Dominic Casey wouldn't have been looking there too.  All MOO 

Oh, and one more thought before I go, there's that pesky question of motive.  You know, the one they said the State couldn't prove for Casey killing Caylee.  Well Jose Baez/Andrea Lyons, what would have been Kronk's motive for killing Caylee?  Not for finding her, but for killing her?  He didn't even know her or any of her family.  What a stupid motion from the Defense!  They've got nada, nothing, zero, zilch...and they know it.  They're stuck with a client and story they cannot defend.  Apparently they think like Casey does-lie, destroy, blame other people.

O.k., calling it a night here.  I am not worried about this Defense motion because God already knew all there is to know about Roy Kronk and still chose/used him anyway to find Caylee. He can handle any tricks the Defense tries to dream up.  I can't help but think that He is using the simple to confound the wise (those who consider themselves wise, that is-proud, arrogant, better than others).  No offense to Roy Kronk, of course.  I'd rather be simple any day than to be haughty and act foolish.

One would hope they’re checking her attorney’s brief case before they let him in with his client. The way this guy plays foot-loose with the law the next act will likely include a Turkey baster, her ending up pregnant, claiming she was raped by guards.

When we get up to act ten if it looks like Casey is going to get convicted, look for the brother to get arrested for a rape murder so the family can keep this circus going!

The Anthony’s can claim the police are out to frame the entire family.

Roy Kronk: State's star witness or Anthony defense's best shot?

For nearly a year, Roy Kronk has been heralded as the man who did what others could not: He found missing toddler Caylee Anthony's remains in woods near her family home.

The former Orange County meter reader appeared to be a blessing for investigators, leading them to a crime scene filled with forensic evidence. Detectives said their findings shored up their case against Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, who is charged with first-degree murder.

Now, Anthony's defense team hopes Kronk will become reasonable doubt to a jury.

Legal documents filed this week reveal interviews with Kronk's ex-wives, his son and a daughter of another ex-girlfriend. They paint a picture of a man with a shady past and a history of abusing and restraining women. He is "equally likely to be responsible for the death of the child," the defense wrote.

Kronk has never been charged, and the claims could not be independently verified. He denies the claims.

Anthony's attorneys want Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland to allow them to present these details to a jury to show there is another reasonable suspect who may have killed Caylee.

Some legal experts say this is an attack on a witness and the defense will have a hard time showing how these prior acts are relevant to the case. Others say it's a smart move by Anthony's attorneys to create reasonable doubt.

The first hurdle is getting the judge's approval.

"I wouldn't be shocked that he allows it, but it's a long shot," said University of Florida law professor Michael Seigel. "It can be prejudicial against the witness."

Tampa prosecutor Pam Bondi — who is not associated with the case — said Kronk is not on trial.

The defense will try to point their fingers at as many people as possible to draw attention away from Anthony. But, Bondi said, the state has a strong circumstantial case.

"It is going to be extremely difficult for the defense to minimize the state's evidence," she said.

The case began July 15, 2008, after Anthony told her family that Caylee had been missing for a month. She explained to investigators that she left the 2-year-old with a nanny and returned later in the day to find them both gone. Detectives determined the nanny never existed.

Five months later, Kronk found Caylee's skull in a bag in woods Dec. 11. He alerted investigators that he had contacted authorities about a suspicious bag in August — but deputies shrugged off his tips.

Some defense attorneys argued the state's circumstantial case opens the door to suggest others could be involved.

Prosecutors must show that no one else could have murdered Caylee other than her mother. If Anthony's attorneys can raise the idea that another person with motive, means and opportunity committed the killing, they are building the argument that the state failed to do its job.
They will try to convince jurors that investigators were so focused on Anthony that they refused to consider other suspects.

"It's going to become a question for the jury. The jury is going to have to decide if it raises reasonable doubt," said Geoffrey Corn, a professor at South Texas College of Law in Houston.

It also sets the stage for a potential appeal later, he said.

And, if the judge denies the request, the defense has planted a seed in the public mind that Kronk isn't as upstanding as he was once portrayed.

"It does sound like an opportunity to taint the jury pool," said Seigel. "That is a victory even if the motion is denied."

1st confirmed bombshell, although this was much touted gossip, I didn’t believe it, but Casey and Baez were having sex in his office. She constantly had hickies, and when they went to arrest her there the arresting officers caught them in the act. They also saw them at other times in states of various undress, and another time Casey had her shirt on backwards. He said she even attempted to hold Baez’s hand under the desk in court and he reprimanded her. There is an ongoing bar complaint against Baez over this, he and Casey both denied it, but there are too many witnesses. The officer has heard Baez say he doesn’t care, Baez thinks he is going to get so rich over book deals and speaking engagements and being an atty commentator on shows like Nancy Grace, that he won’t need to practice law. I guess stumping your client hasn’t gotten thru to him that that is a jailable offense in Florida.

BBM. That, my new monkey friends, sums up, better than anything else, what I personally think of the defense team. When I think they can not get any lower, they do something like this, and I am left to pick my jaw up off the floor, then start cursing like a sailor, and throwing things at the TV.
I personally do not believe that Kronk is the last to be staring into the headlights of the defense team bus. They have tried to blame Amy, Jesse, Ricardo, and anyone else they could. This is just the latest *hit balloon they are trying to float.
Need someone more versed with the legal stuff than I, but I have seen several people mention that Judge Strickland should put a stop to Baez et al. What exactly can Judge do, as there is no gag order? Help a new sloooow monkey out and 'splain.

This is exactly what I was thinking!  Whatever happened to Zanny the Nanny?  This is sooooo convenient.  And I didn't watch Baez on JVM...did she ask about Zanny's "disappearance?"  Instead of "Bombshell", I think Baez and Co. just created a very large "Backlash"!   ::DancingSantaMonkey1::  Thanks, Baez, for that early Christmas gift.

You're right Jesse, that's why they can't cry about a change of venue. I can't see any reason why the judge should move the trial cause her lawyers put their mugs over all different National News Channels, they're  assuring that everyone will know something about this case no matter where they go. So, why move it? They are trying to play to potential jurors anywhere they can, but then they accuse the state of tainting the jury pool. I just think they are pathetic, and desperate as hell!!! That is why there is so much to choose from, it would be pretty boring if we all watched the same things. I've never watched Joy's show, but then I usually don't watch talk shows, except an occasional NG if I'm in the mood for her, which is very seldom.

I don't remember an occasion where Casey was arrested at Baez' office.  She was arrested at home the first time, after which she engaged Baez' services.  After being bailed out, she was arrested at home.  The last time, she was arrested in the bail bondsman's car after switching cars under an overpass. I could be wrong, but that's all I remember.  If she were never arrested at Baez' offices, then there would be no occasion for LE to have seen any of the above.  I take this with a grain of salt.

why do they keep saying kronk knew where the body was in November, he knew where it was in August...so why do they keep saying in November. Heck like i said before, Cindy and bozo and Dom Casey also knew in November when they sent him with his stick to find her.

There was a comment by his son, that his father said something to that effect, now if the son is telling the truth, I have no idea. I don't even remember what page this was being talked about.

So, if we are to believe that Kronk killed Caylee for financial gain, how in the world would he have known that the case would have gotten the enormous amount of attention that it has.  Sadly, not every child murder gets this much attention.

Thank-you Sunny, so are you.  I've been thinking about this motion that the defense filed about Kronk. I would guess they realize this motion is not going anywhere, but what they did accomplish is destroying Kronk's reputation and tainting the jury pool with this info about violence, duct tape and little girls.

I think it is time for the Judge to get involved and stop all this, obviously it is an overt attempt to pollute the jury pool at the expense of a prosecution witness's credibility and future. This wasn't done for Casey's defense because I can't see a quicker way to the needle than pi$$ing off everyone and making such ludicrous assertions that the defense loses any credibility it had left.

I am having a hard time believing this as well. But...there were times that the LE did come by the office when she was there. I distinctly remember once when Sgt Allen and another deputy was there and we wondered what was going on. Not saying that it makes this true, just saying there were times when investigators went to Baez's office when KC was there.

Sometimes it is chillier in the cage than others I have noticed. I wondered yesterday in a post about the backgrounds of the defense team, and how would they feel if it was spread all over God and creation. It is despicable what they are doing to Kronk, or anyone they can get their mitts on.

Kronk probably had a inkling what it would mean if he found Caylee, and that may have been one of the reasons he hesitated for so long. But I am sure he NEVER expected to be accused of murder, and I hope he sues the hell out of all of them. JMO

I think the main thing they were trying to bring in to discredit him was the son saying he told him in November and that he said he was going to be on TV. I am thinking there is not a good relationship between them already for some reason. The sleezy defense in just using this family 's diagreements for their advantage. JMO

Yep, when Kronk came out he said they were nice and it went well. As he was speaking, they had the motion already written, and had their tickets and hotel rooms already booked for NYC and were on the way to the airport. They certainly did blindside him. I had a bad feeling when the Battlewagon showed up with Bozo on Thursday at the depo .  ::MonkeyNoNo::

On page 3 a poster made a remark that she hoped those who felt there was something hinky about Kronk are happy now.  Well, I was one of those who felt and still feel there is something very HINKY about Kronk.  Do I think he murdered Caylee or had anything to do with it - NO!  Do I think he might have been feed information, YES.  Do I think he got this information from his GF by illegal means, GOD I HOPE NOT.  Do I think it is very possible that he, like D.Casey and his "stick" was looking in the woods off Surban Drive at the direction of someone (Cindy, George or Lee come to mind) - Yes.  That was the motivating reason for my Daisy Chain Project.  This man looked in August and SEVERAL other times before that fateful Dec day.  He waited for hurricane waters to receed.  He told his own son, I will be a hero and on TV.  He KNEW HIS INFO WAS VALID - IMHO, this was not a hunch.

On about page 9 a poster said they would be thrilled if when Kronk is on the stand if he is cross examined and tells that he got the "tip" from his girlfriend who overheard Biasbutt or D.Casey tell casey's boyfriend, whoops I mean biasbutt the information.  THIS IS ALMOST THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN, IMHO.  If LE didn't secure a safe and private place for an attorney to speak freely with his client - it could turn that discovery into police misconduct and a potential mistrial.  IE:  Casey walks free and don't forget double jeopardy.

I know this post will be met with the usual bananna tossing, but you see .......... I come from a place of wanting the TRUTH.  Even if the truth does let that connect the dots mom to walk free.  There is nothing gained and there is no justice if the truth doesn't come out for Caylee.  She deserves the truth - it is the ONLY THING, IMHO that will set this innocent childs' spirit free.  The old expression the truth shall set you free comes to mind.  If there was misconduct and we as a society end up having to let a potential killer walk free, then we need to know that - whether we like it or not.

If posters really want to find justice then you must seek the truth first.  Often blogs become a cheerleading or bashing grounds instead of a forum for seeking truth and justice.  This is why if I have quit posting here or anywhere for the most part.  I came here and to all the sites I have been on to make a difference and to seek truth.  Not to be popular.  Not to build a post count.  And not to turn a blind eye to the truth or purging out both sides of the case in that quest.  I sure didn't join any forum to have the political adgenda of a few crammed down my throat, even if I might agree with them.  I didn't come to a discussion formum to see a moderator reply to a post with the word "slu$"  sorry, just can't type it.

I hardly ever read blogs or forums anymore, but I did want to see folks take on the recent events.  In doing so and in being me, I felt the need to make this post.

WKMG-Channel 6 anchor Jacqueline London put it succinctly: "So what does all of this really mean in the case against Casey?"

She was talking last night about the Casey Anthony defense team's surprising motion suggesting that meter reader Roy Kronk should be considered a suspect in the death of Caylee Anthony. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in daughter Caylee's death. Kronk, a former meter reader, found the child's remains in December.

Investigative reporter Tony Pipitone had answers for London. "It won't mean anything if the judge does not allow into evidence the so-called prior bad acts by the former meter reader Roy Kronk," Pipitone said.

WKMG showed footage of Kronk's ex-wives saying disparaging things about him in the defense team's motion. The defense team hit several national programs on Friday to explain its latest move. Pipitone summed up the strategy on Kronk: "Now the hero is, in the defense's book, a suspect that investigators should have checked out as thoroughly as they did."

London wanted to know what George and Cindy Anthony, Casey's parents, had to say about the defense team's latest move. "I called Brad Conway, their attorney," Pipitone said. "He says they had no idea this was coming until they saw media reports. He says that they now just want to wait and see how this develops. ... They say what's important to them is to just know the truth."

And what to make of that motion?

WFTV-Channel 9's legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says the interviews with Kronk's ex-wives are worthless because they weren't done under oath.

On WESH-Channel 2, legal analyst Richard Hornsby said, "This is the first significant and credible shot the defense has taken against the state. I think it has a high likelihood of success."

Let me get this straight.  Casey drops off Caylee to the nanny, searches 31 days on her own, parties, steals, lies, etc.  Where did Krunk find Caylee  in all this to kill her?  I don't get where the defense team could go with this.  There is no rhyme or reason.

I think the Beast is pulling the strings too.

From the moment I saw Kronk I got hinky feelings, and I will not apologize for my feelings. Never could put my finger on it. But my thoughts, when the jury hears him, he does not come across well, imo, and the State is really going to have to work with him on his demeanor, to make him more appealing to the jury, and that does matter quite a bit on how the jury is going to react not only to him, but other witnesses as well. Is this a sleazy attempt what the defense is doing? Of course, but defense lawyers have an obligation to defend their clients, and will do whatever it takes. Will this work? I have no idea, and wouldn't even attempt to guess, you just can never tell what a jury is going to do. But the reality is now all this talk from ex wives and whatever is out there now, it is bothersome that the defense is taking this route.

YEd I too had a hard time wrapping my mind on Baez and Casey having a fling! But I recall how chummy the two were at the onset! Too chummy!! After all we know Baez is a sleeze bucket! And remember Tracy said that casey made a remark about going on the Howard stern show!! But said he would probably ask if she was doing Baez!! After all he did act smitten by her!!

They fought like bears to defer the fraud trial until after the murder trial so the State couldn't bring up her prior bad acts.......and now they want to bring up his and he isn't the defendant....pure crap and smokescreen IMO. I can't believe this is gonna fly. If it does I will certainly lose a lot of faith in Judge Strickland.

I don't believe the judge is going to allow this, at least I don't think so. But again, Kronk's reputation is shot, even if these allegations aren't true, some people will think they are.

Yesterday when the A's came out and seemed sympathetic towards Kronk everyone said, what a minute they are up to something, now we know. For them to now say they had no idea until it was on the media..good grief, PLEASE, they are in the middle of everything that goes on. And apparently Conman and BOZO are also very chummy.

It was a well planned and full orchestrated effort of Team Bobo to ensure that the focus was on Kronk through all of their actions over the last 48 hours and saturation of the national media.  Whatever Kronk has done in his personall life the events of the last 2 days can not be undone.  IMO what team Bobo has done is ensure that the average person will now give full thought before getting involved in speaking out or going to LE on any crime, whether it is the correct moral thing to do, and ponder if they will be the next Kronk with "is it worth it" screaming to them. I think we will see many people who just are not going to get involved.  What a shame for victims.

It was my understanding that the son supposedly said this to one of the ex-wives, who repeated it to the detective.  Not even from the horse's mouth.  Anyway, this supposed son doesn't have the same last name as Kronk does.  Like third hand hearsay.  Ridiculous. will never be admitted as evidence.  But I've noticed that some of us are now questioning whether or not Baez's team is telling the truth and Kronk was involved.  If we, who know so much of the evidence can waver, imagine how a jury would consider this. 
I do not believe that Kronk was involved at all, by a daisy chain, by a tire chain, by a chainlink, by a chain gang, by any chain at all.  He is right about no good deed going unpunished.

ORLANDO -- It’s one of the biggest case files in Orange County history.

More than 12,300 pages of discovery have been turned over to Casey's defense team.

We know the state’s position is that Casey Anthony intentionally killed her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.  But we don't know how her defense team plans to fight that because they're not saying -- yet.

“There's a whole part of this case that no one is reporting or knows about and that will all come out at trial,” said Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez.

The more immediate challenge for this defense team is the check fraud case against Anthony scheduled to begin in January.

Casey allegedly stole several checks from a friend. She used one at a Target store to buy a handful of items.

Could that case end before the trial even starts?
“(Is there any harm to a plea in that case?) We're discussing all options and we're explaining all options to our client,” Baez said.

There's also the issue of Anthony’s solitude in jail.

“She wants to see her family,” Baez said.

Her attorneys are the only people she gets to see.  The fact that all her jail visits are recorded and released to the media means its all fair game at trial.

“The prospective jury pool is out there and I have to guard everything I possibly can with this case,” Baez said.  “No matter what's done, no matter what's said, people are going to read into it and say things and overanalyze it and criticize it and I don't think when you have someone's life hanging in the balance you can take any risks.”

Right now the check fraud case is set for January.  The murder case will likely take place next summer.

Baez is confident they'll hit those dates.

“There's not gonna be any stall tactics on the part of the defense. Casey wants her day in court. She wants to prove her innocence and that's what we're gonna try and do,” Baez said.

The defense has requested a change of venue for both the check fraud case and the murder case.  So far, the judge hasn't scheduled a date to consider that request.
   
The next court date for Anthony is a pretrial hearing in the check fraud case on Dec. 11.
That'll happen one year to the day her daughter’s remains were discovered down the street from her home.

I have to say that if Kronk did have privy info - it came from Camp Anthony or those inducted into Camp Anthony at the time .... as it was said Con Men. I don't know what Kronk is at this moment within the case. Other than what has been resent. 

But ever since it was said that his/Kronks supervisor lives/lived on Hopespring or the street over and was friends with Brother Lee that has always stuck with me. Even though Lee did not live nor reside at home ..something is Hinky. Maybe who knows that Kronk overheard a conversation at work ..via his Supervisor and just ran with it on his own.

That will come out at Trial....that is all we have heard from day one. They are still trying to figure out WHAT will come out at Trial (Casey's side of the story), because they have NO CLUE!! They are still trying to fabricate a story that will make sense to a jury.....and they can't!! She will  ::MonkeyHang:: There is no defense....period.

What Baez did and the way he did it says:
We have nothing to defend Casey with therefore we have to do things this way.

That is right, they don't have a clue. When I think about it, I cannot come up with one good reason why a mother would not call or tell anyone her child is missing. She didn't even tell her own parents, not only that she completely avoided them and made excuses why they couldn't see her. Nope, can't think of a single explanation for that, except that she didn't tell anyone because she was guilty of something. That's just my opionion, but thats what it is cause what other reason could there be????? No one who cares or has concern for their childs well being goes about their life as if nothing is wrong when their child is missing! NO!!  I love this statement: I find it very telling that not one of these allegations levied against Roy Kronk had been made to either a law enforcement or other governmental agency, prior to the defense investigator’s inquisition.

Good morning, Monkeys.  After having seen Kronk dragged through the mud for months on the internet and now this, I personally would never get involved in any kind of case even though I might find a body.  I would look the other way and go home.  It isn't fair to destroy someone's reputation and life because you might think something is "Hinky" whatever that means.  I have no such meter.  I try to logically think things through and reach a conclusion, based on the evidence at hand and not because of intuition or a hunch or anything else except the cold, hard facts as they are known, not my imagination. 

I try to be fair in all my dealings and I personally think what Baez has done is immoral and unfair, not to mention untrue.

I can't think that any statement made by one's ex-wife would be considered credible by a reasonable person.   Divorces are often, and in fact in most cases, bitter affairs which leave both sides vindictive, which is likely the case here.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.  There used to be a poster on other forums who would say, "If you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras."  I hear horses, not some exotic theory.

i agree BabyBear. First off they did point out that the son who said all this may not be his biological son because he doesnt have the same last name. So if he is the son of one of these exwives and they think they can somehow get rich over this then i think they would say anything. I think this was purely a stunt by the defense to taint the jury pool. I have never followed a case closely like this one and what i see by the defense is so horrible and seems unethical. Remember they were the ones who didnt want a gag order, and now i see for good reason, i mean who goes on national tv as often as this defense team. Clearly its obvious to people that they are only trying to throw stuff out there and see what sticks.

Hi, Jesse.  Not only does the so-called son have a different last name, making me highly suspicious of whether or not he even is Kronk's son, but the claimed statement was made by the lovely ex-wife.  She said that the son said that Kronk said.  IMO Judge Strickland needs to put an end to this nonsense and sanction the defense for frivilous pleadings. Ive been preoccupied but still keeping up with cases. This latest ploy by the defense is an absolute disgrace to the profession & undoubtedly will have its repercussions  not only in this case but very possibly with the bar.   Whether Kronk's past is not squeaky clean is certainly not going to matter by these individuals OR the way the defense obtained the fabricated info.   You can tell by the Anthony's response that they know its utter nonsense because Cindy especially would be having a field day with it IF any of it would fly in her monster's favor & you will notice that they have been advised by Conman not to advance the accusations - this is glaring!   Instead they need to be worrying about why Dominic Casey was digging & probing in the Suburban Drive woods in November 2008.

For those putting any weight into what Kronk's EX's are saying, key word EX needs to be front and center, the same with "estranged" son.  If a trained eye looks at the facial expressions of these people during these staged interviews it can be seen readily & significantly that they are 1) lying 2) fabricating for personal gain 3) have an old axe to grind which oozes of obvious motive of revenge.   Don't be surprised if taking the stand during the murder trial never materializes OR even if they testify, the prosecution will discredit them with professional precise skill embarrassingly way too easily.

One has to weigh why the defense DID NOT put these statements under oath NOR bring them forward to law enforcement or the court before considering their "innocent" client has been sitting in jail & facing the death penalty -- in layman's terms much of it is BS or exaggerations of a more minor magnitude.   One MUST also ask why Kronk was not confronted by the defense with questions regarding any of this slanderous guilt diversion during their sworn deposition of him in front of state prosecutors.   These amateur interviews conveniently recorded with the intent to release them by the defense were conducted by Bozo & NOT put under oath, they are neither sworn statements or depositions.   The way they presented themselves on The Today Show indicated they are aware they can be sued outside the court room if these lawyers make these blatant accusations against Kronk beyond their induendo & I will go so far as to say that they are dangerously close already of being found liable of defamation & slander without even having said specifically Kronk is Caylee's murderer (attorneys are NOT freed from these civil infractions outside the courtroom).     Get ready though, they may slip on "Whoraldo" tonight in yet another media farce - Bozo's buddy once again may just help expose this treacherous tactic as opposed to helping the defense get a lying, murdering slore freed from a felony murder conviction.   

Finally, one should be asking why after all this time the defense is putting this forward now so late in the game after yet another compelling discovery dump, if there was any actual legally speaking "meat on the bone" this would have been presented long ago in an attempt to free their damsel in distress, ya know the muther of the year  :2doh: - they are deseperate & they know the State has the goods on their GUILTY client.

That being said, none of it explains why Casey partied & hoed around for a month instead of reporting Caylee missing, nor any of the evidence in Casey's trunk, the remains crime scene or the items found that clearly came from the Anthony home of which anyone else would have been able to grab in any methodical fashion as the evidence indicates.    Why would Casey have had the need to invented "Zanny the nanny" or lie at all prior to her arrest with this defense case scenario?   What would explain Casey's computer searches prior to June 16th?    O come on,  this is too laughable for words.

Make that Ms. Savage-Kerley-Kronk-Ferguson, or whatever order might be correct.

A sidebar note:  I think it is a dang shame that certain individuals are not realizing the severe repercussion of making careless accusations or slanderous comments against a state witness without proof or specifically indicating that it is opinion or suspicion versus fact is going to have in future cases.   Making a previous criminal history or civil resolution known as in public record is legit, but verbally or in written form flatly accusing someone of something without any proof is another...ie. the accusation about Kronk & little girls.  One can only hope that the Grunds, Zeneida, Kronk & anyone else suffering reckless finger pointing, defamation, & slander will have a legal remedy down the road & that Judge Strickland will reprimand the defense for this particular farce.   It should be mandated in our courts that any and all testimony against a witness be factual & NEVER "alleged", therefore being inadmissible.

I think I see where you’re going. Maybe KC didn’t want Caylee found before she was completely decomposed. In the Diane Downs case (small sacrifices) she had purchased a unicorn to take the place of and as a remembrance of her children. The prosecutor used this “fungible” to take the place of her children and not have the burden and responsibility as a single parent. The jury that convicted her saw the unicorn in that light and it helped put her away. Maybe KC’s tattoo will help seal her fate as well. And so there is a hearing to determine whether or not this kind of scientific evidence is admissible. And just because it’s the first time it doesn’t mean that it’s not going to be admitted in this case.

Whereas Kronk is concerned I have Leonard Padilla reference a "daisy chain" on several occasions.  I have never had a full understanding of what this "daisy chain" actually is.  Can someone please explain to me what Leonard meant by this?  TIA

That Kronk got the info from someone where Caylee's remains were. The thought is that Kronk's girlfriend who works at the jail overheard, which is scary if true. If true, how close was she to hear a conversation I'm assuming between Casey and whoever? Leonard has been saying that daisy chain scenario for awhile.

I took this from a poster named PIP. Who seems to be an intelligent poster and sets a premise out that I think is probable. What Kronk's son says is important, if he will say this under oath. None of this stuff is evidence yet, but it might come in via the son. 

The defense knows Kronk is not the killer, they aren’t going there. They are trying to have the dump site evidence thrown out for tampering by Kronk. Which is, unfortunately, true. He looked for her body from a tip he received (think co-worker on that route in June who recalls seeing a white car, after the news hits July 17th) Either Roy alone or Roy and tipster or other co-worker set out on a body hunt for reward money. He found the body in August. The exculpatory evidence the defense is required to present by February is ready to go. Maculuso made no mistake, it was intentional. Either the “inadvertent co-worker tipster” himself, or another co-worker in the know will be speaking out against Roy Kronk. They will confirm he was hunting for the body and prove he did have ‘posession’ of the remains and did in fact look in the bag upon finding it in August. Not one interview jives with another, not Kronk’s, nor his 3 co-workers interviews. Did the same tipster contact Baez, explaining why DCasey was also out there searching? Damned Kronk. He is the wrench in the states case. Why do you think Baez wanted his cell pings etc.? To prove he had been in the area hunting. Why would he refuse if he had nothing to hide? I hope the state can work around the Kronk dilemma, and not lose that evidence. Meanwhile, watch for an updated defense witness list before the February ’show your cards’ deadline. Sparks are going to fly, jaws are going to drop.

Mr. Hornsby, The problem I have with that seemingly endless response is that you are taking potshots at colleagues while proclaiming to be the one who is right. It would have been more believable had you just stated you opinion along with whatever you thought supported your stance. Instead here we go again….you lose credibility when you boast of superior understanding while denigrating all other opinions. The defense can’t possibly want these people on the stand as witnesses, they will be dissected and humiliated by the prosecution. Not only do they have extensive criminal backgrounds they also have axes of various sorts to grind.
I think you may have missed the point and the reasoning behind this latest defense strategy in your rather egotistical prattle.

Hocuspocus – I appreciate your candid response. I also agree that the “witnesses” may have serious credibility issues ( I don’t know) – but that is an issue for another day.

My problem – and real purpose of my post – is to publicly call out an attorney who continues to misstate the law to the Central Florida public with the open mike he has been provided by WFTV. When someone speaks as an expert on TV, the audience presumes they are basing their opinion on authority.

And while I agree agree my post was seemingly endless – it had to be. I approached discrediting him the same way I approach a criminal trial. I wanted to leave no stone unturned and thoroughly discredit him – so that there would be no question as to whether he was being misleading and untruthful in his legal comments.

And the reason my post is arrogant – is because it wasn’t about superior understanding, it was about exposing a bully as a fraud.

Crystal Sparks was one of the ex-wives interviewed by the defense. She talks of Kronk's laziness, physically abusive behavior, and alcohol and drug use. Sparks also said Kronk was not a good father and was basically absent most of his son's life.

Casey Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, rejected by Florida Bar on first try


ORLANDO — His defense of a young mother charged with killing her toddler has transformed José Ángel Baez into one of the best-known lawyers in America.

 For eight years after he graduated from law school, however, the board that screens prospective attorneys in Florida would not let him practice law. The Florida Supreme Court agreed with the decision, issuing an order in 2000 that cataloged unpaid bills, extravagant spending and other "financial irresponsibility" up to that time. Justices reserved their strongest condemnation for his failure to stay current on support payments for his only child.

His overall behavior, they wrote, showed "a total lack of respect for the rights of others and a total lack of respect for the legal system, which is absolutely inconsistent with the character and fitness qualities required of those seeking to be afforded the highest position of trust and confidence recognized by our system of law."

He worked instead as a paralegal for the Miami-Dade public defender and then taught Internet research to lawyers and started four business ventures, including two bikini companies. Before Florida Bar officials admitted him in 2005, he had to demonstrate that he had rehabilitated himself.

Today, as lead defense attorney for Casey Anthony — the Orange County woman charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter— 40-year-old Baez has become the sort of instant celebrity monitored by TV, newspapers, tabloids and the Internet.

He is a Bar member in good standing, his office spokeswoman reminded the Orlando Sentinel in a prepared statement. She also questioned the motives behind the newspaper story.

"Based on your questions and actions," she wrote, "this profile you are writing has nothing to do with Jose Baez's representation of Casey Anthony and appears to be a sensationalist persecution of a Hispanic lawyer who has been targeted by a newspaper lucky to find itself at the center of a national story."

The Supreme Court order, which the Sentinel found in public records, shows that nearly a decade ago, he could not satisfy the character and fitness standards Florida requires of prospective lawyers.

It identifies Baez by his initials, J.A.B. — standard procedure in cases in which prospective lawyers challenge their denial of a law license at the state's highest court. Using other public records and interviews, the Sentinel matched many details in the document to Baez, however.

For instance, the lawyer listed as representing J.A.B. was Manuel Alvarez, an attorney with the Miami-Dade Public Defender's Office, where Baez worked at the time.

The office confirmed that Alvarez helped Baez with his Bar application. Supreme Court records show J.A.B.'s is the only case involving the Bar that Alvarez has handled in the state's highest court.

Alvarez would not comment, but Executive Assistant Public Defender Rory S. Stein said that Alvarez wrote a legal brief on behalf of Baez in 1998, the year after he graduated from law school. Stein called it "a friendly gesture" to a staff member who needed help with his lawyer application.

In an interview last year, Baez described his eight years out of law as a personal choice, saying he could earn more money in other fields. He would not be interviewed for this story but commented on the court order in the statement issued through Marti Mackenzie, his office spokeswoman:

"The ruling you claim that was made about a lawyer with the initials J.A.B. has nothing to do with Mr. Baez's current status as a member in good standing with The Florida Bar. Many people, including lawyers, have monetary misunderstandings, disputes and child support disagreements that have no effect on their ability to represent clients."

From Navy to law school

Born in Puerto Rico in 1969, Baez told reporters he grew up in the Bronx and South Florida with his mother, a single parent. He dropped out of Homestead High School in ninth grade.

He married at 17, became a father, earned a GED diploma and joined the Navy in 1986.

According to his résumé, Baez spent three years assigned to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Norfolk, Va., trained as an intelligence analyst with what he described as a "Cosmic Top Secret" security clearance.

He left active duty in May 1989 as a yeoman seaman, a rank associated with administrative duties, and then served in the U.S. Navy Reserve, according to the National Archives and Records Administration.

In the next six years, Baez divorced, attended Miami-Dade Community College and graduated from Florida State University. A black belt in tae kwon do, Baez competed with the karate, pistol and crime-scene team from FSU's chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, a fraternity of criminology majors.

"We probably ranked first overall in every category in every national competition," said Ken Koehler, the fraternity's former sergeant-at-arms. "José was more or less the primary instructor. ... We did academic testing as well, and he did pretty good with that, too."

After graduating in 1997 from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Baez applied to become a lawyer. In April 1998, he was called before the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, which screens prospective lawyers. The later Supreme Court order outlined how this review uncovered the debts and other problems that concerned the Bar examiners.

That order is the only public record of the review, which is designed to protect the public and safeguard the judicial system. The Bar examiners have responsibility for ensuring that all lawyer applicants meet Florida's requirements for character and fitness, education and technical competence, according to Supreme Court rules.

The process is not open to the public, except when a candidate who is turned down asks the Supreme Court to review the decision. The court identifies the rejected applicant only by his or her initials when its findings are released.

Court critical of finances

According to the Supreme Court summary of the case, the Board of Bar Examiners filed formal allegations against J.A.B. in September 1998. In addition to unpaid child support, a personal bankruptcy and default on a student loan, the investigators said he left out parts of his history, including that he wrote a bad check and entered a pretrial program to avoid conviction.

Investigators also found fault with J.A.B.'s participation in a foreign-studies program in summer 1995 and his leasing of a Mazda Miata in Miami — unnecessary expenses when he owed money to others, they said.

After a formal hearing, the board found the allegations proven and recommended that he not be admitted to the Bar.

"Additionally, the Board found that J.A.B.'s misrepresentations and lack of candor in his answers to the specifications and during his formal hearing testimony were further grounds for disqualification," the Supreme Court wrote.

Many details in the order can be confirmed in public records for José Baez:

•Miami-Dade Circuit Court records show that Baez failed repeatedly to pay his $200-a-month child support after his 1993 divorce. The sum owed reached $12,000 by 2004. Asked recently about this, Baez said through his spokeswoman that he and his ex-wife have resolved their child-support issues. Like J.A.B., Baez's only child is a daughter.

•Baez declared bankruptcy in September 1990, the same month and year cited for J.A.B. The records on Baez are filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where he lived during and after his service in the Navy.

•The Virginia Education Loan Authority filed liens against Baez for $4,336 in unpaid loans in 1995, the same year the Supreme Court says J.A.B defaulted on his student loan.

•Baez leased a Mazda Miata in 1998, just as J.A.B did. The Sentinel obtained a copy of his Progressive Express insurance card for the vehicle, which Baez had submitted to the Public Defender's Office in Miami. Files from the State Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles show the car was leased.

In April 1998 — the same month that the Bar examiners held their investigative hearing into J.A.B.'s qualifications as a lawyer — the Miami-Dade Public Defender's Office reassigned José Ángel Baez to tasks that did not require a law degree.

Baez spent the next 16 months interviewing witnesses and investigating cases to compensate the office for its investment in his preparation to be a lawyer, records show. He resigned in September 1999.

The following year, in June 2000, the Supreme Court issued its findings in case No. SC95855, Florida Board of Bar Examiners RE: J.A.B.: "Accordingly, we approve the Board's recommendation that J.A.B. not be admitted to the Florida Bar at this time."

Baez tries bikini business

Turned down by the Bar, Baez started a series of businesses.

They included Bon Bon Bikinis and Brazilian-Bikinis.Com to sell bathing suits, corporate records show. He also applied for a real-estate license and created two companies selling computer know-how: LawStudentWebsites.Com and LawyerConcepts.

From 2000 to 2005, according to his spokeswoman, Baez worked for LexisNexis, the information company. In an interview last year, he said he taught lawyers and judges to research cases using the Internet and made twice as much as he could practicing law.

Records show that a court in Miami docked $550 a month from his LexisNexis paycheck in 2004 to pay child support to his first wife.

An applicant denied admission to the Bar can reapply after two years or other such period set by the Bar examiners. The application must include a "written statement describing the scope and character of the applicant's evidence of rehabilitation," according to Supreme Court rules.

The court requires them to produce "clear and convincing evidence of rehabilitation," such as strict compliance with judicial or administrative orders, assurances to "conduct one's self in an exemplary manner" and demonstrations of excellent character, good reputation for professional ability and "positive action" in their occupation, religion or community or civic service.

Baez launched two community-service ventures during his time away from the law.

In 2001, according to state records, Baez created a nonprofit group, the Miami Domestic Violence Project. It dissolved two years later. Mackenzie, Baez's office spokeswoman, said the project disbanded because another group with an almost identical purpose and name already existed.

In 2004, Baez created another nonprofit in Miami, Miracles for Children Foundation Corp., according to state records. It continued until Sept. 16, 2005.

The following week, Sept. 22, Baez was admitted to practice law. Because the admission process for lawyers is not public, there is no way to know what effect these nonprofit groups had on the Bar's action.

LOL  Birds of a feather stick together.  Since Baez has some uh.....experience with bad checks, it's appropriate that he represent Casey Anthony.  Sometimes in life two people meet and have so much in common that it's like the tide rushing in to plant a kiss on the shore. It's a force of nature.  It can't be stopped.  When Casey looked into Jose's eyes, and he into hers, they must have recognized in each other kindred spirits meant to be together. He on the outside representing her and she inside her room dreaming of the day they will together to form another Brazillian Bikini Company with Casey as the head model.  Of course, her back will have to clear up first.

Is it any wonder that the SAs laugh when Baez gets up to speak in court?  They must be thinking of him in one of his string bikinis.

The media coverage of the Casey Anthony case has taken another strange turn. Now one station's analyst is lambasting another station's commentator.

WFTV-Channel 9 legal analyst Bill Sheaffer dismissed the latest motion by Anthony's defense team as a media stunt. The defense team is pointing to Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee Anthony's remains, as a possible suspect in the child's death. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the child's death. Sheaffer said the defense team's interview with Kronk's ex-wives are worthless because they weren't done under oath.

But WESH-Channel 2 legal analyst Richard Hornsby praised the defense team's motion. "This is the first significant and credible shot the defense has taken against the state. I think it has a high likelihood of success," Hornsby said on the air.

Now on his blog, Hornsby writes that he was "flabbergasted" when Sheaffer described the defense's "tactics" as "despicable."

Hornsby writes, "The very conviction with which Mr. Sheaffer blasts the Anthony defense on the motion makes me question when he last opened up one of those law books he is always sitting in front of." Hornsby says Sheaffer's "legal commentary" has been "completely cheap and false."

I had trouble reaching WFTV news director Bob Jordan this afternoon. But in the past, he has praised Sheaffer's skill and said the ABC affiliate is lucky to have the lawyer in an analyst's role.

In blog comments posted today, Hornsby gives lengthy and detailed criticism in analyzing the defense motion. He describes Sheaffer as "Mr. Suspenders" and "an attorney who reeks of elitism." Hornsby also tells Sheaffer, "You are ... a sell-out to your profession."
Hornsby's main complaint is this: "I think it is time that someone puts WFTV-ABC reporter Kathi Belich and her sidekick Mr. Sheaffer to task for the pro-prosecution pandering to the anti-Anthony sentiment, rather than providing objective analysis of the legal issues in the case so that the Central Florida community can have an informed understanding of the legal issues in this case."

Hornsby says that he does all of his commentary for free while Sheaffer is on retainer with WFTV.

OLDSMAR, Fla. -- Pinellas County deputies and wildlife officials are scouring an Oldsmar neighborhood for a monkey on the loose.

Deputies said they were looking for the 30-pound monkey, possibly a Macaque, in the area of the Sable Palms Apartments at 1355 Bay Harbor Drive, where it had been seen in treetops and rooftops.

The monkey was spotted by a citizen and reported to wildlife officials, who in turned called on the police for help.

Deputies said the monkey can be aggressive and urged citizens not to attempt to capture it themselves.

Anyone who sees the monkey should report the sighting to police or wildlife officials.

Disputes over bills, support
Since he became a lawyer, Baez has been involved in several money disputes. They are mostly small compared with the bankruptcy, bad debts and other financial issues that prompted the Florida Board of Bar Examiners to refuse his application to the Bar after he graduated from law school in 1997. He was not admitted to practice law until 2005.

Darlene Bryant, a court reporter in North Carolina, said she spent six months in 2007 trying to get Baez to honor a $275 bill for work she did for him.

"He finally paid after I got the state Bar Association involved," she said.

Baez also ended up being sued in April 2007 over an $837.62 bill for 1,000 of his plastic business cards, which are decorated with a golden crest. Sir Speedy Printing went to court and won after Baez refused an offer from the Orange County Bar Association to mediate.

And in January 2007, four months before he bought a $670,000 waterfront home in a country-club community on East Lake Tohopekaliga, Baez was held in contempt of court for failing to pay $4,000 in child support, according to Miami-Dade Clerk of Court records.

His office spokeswoman, Marti Mackenzie, told the Sentinel that Baez and his former wife have resolved their support issues.

Spotlight follows big case
Baez's finances would be of little interest had the case of a lifetime not fallen into his lap in July. When Anthony picked Baez to defend her — based on the recommendation of someone she met in jail, her mother has told reporters — he took on a case that has attracted attention around the world.

Since then, he has appeared on Good Morning America and 20/20 on ABC, The Early Show on CBS, Today on NBC, Larry King Live on CNN, Geraldo at Large on Fox and others.

Last summer, he traveled to New York City, where he and his wife spent part of a day sailing with Fox's Rivera. Photos of the outing show a grinning Baez on deck with Rivera.

Heavy media schedules by defense lawyers raise the eyebrows of some seasoned lawyers. University of Florida law professor Michael Seigel, a former federal prosecutor, said any lawyer who goes public risks being accused of tainting the jury pool.

"It's very dangerous," Seigel said "Unless you are very skilled at it, it can truly backfire.

Most of the best attorneys around the country tend to be very quiet. They wait to try the case in a courtroom setting."

Setting a tone for the defense
Early on, Baez confounded reporters by taking on a media-relations company that used three anonymous — and often irritable — spokesmen calling themselves "Todd Black." Baez severed ties with Press Corps Media after one of the spokesmen turned out to be a felon who served time for trying to extort money from a TV reporter in California.

Mackenzie, who was hired to replace Press Corps Media, said in March that Baez had not known the felon's background.

Robert M. Jarvis, who teaches classes in legal ethics and law and popular culture at Nova Southeastern University Law Center in Fort Lauderdale, said the incident is just one of many twists in the case.

"I think he's a guy who's clearly in over his head. Handling a capital-murder case is obviously the most challenging thing a lawyer can do," Jarvis said. "So it's very surprising right from the get-go that a lawyer with less than four years of experience is handling this case. ... Right off the bat, you have to say this is a guy who is very cocky or who is really naive."

Baez does his own speaking in court, where he has annoyed state prosecutors with his motions.

He has demanded repeatedly that the state speed up release of evidence it has and make it available for analysis by his experts. He has sought to block release of photos and videos that he said could show his client in a bad light. He has sought sanctions for prosecutors he accused of moving too slowly on his requests. He complained to the judge when the State Attorney's Office sparked a Florida Bar investigation by sending it news releases from his former spokesman.

He often does not prevail. For example, when the state wanted to force Anthony to appear in court, Baez balked, saying she didn't want to appear in public. The judge ruled against him, requiring she attend every hearing.

What Baez makes clear in all his court appearances is that he intends to vigorously challenge the state's interpretation of what the evidence against his client shows.


Who is paying, state asks?
A continuing controversy stems from the question of how Anthony, who had no assets when arrested in July, is paying for her defense, including the hiring of nationally recognized expert witnesses. One of them, pathologist Dr. Henry Lee, testified for O.J. Simpson at his murder trial.

In March, prosecutors asked Circuit Judge Stan Strickland to investigate whether Baez was playing two potentially conflicting roles for Anthony: defense lawyer and story agent.

Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton speculated in a motion that Anthony's "seeming conversion from pauper to princess" could be based on sale of her photos and videos, which had appeared in national TV reports about the case. He further speculated whether Baez could be managing both her assets and her defense.

TV networks admit that they often pay "licensing fees" for videos and photos, but they will not say whether — and whom — they paid to use photos and video of Anthony and her family.

Strickland refused to step in after Baez denied having any arrangement with Anthony to sell her story. Baez accused prosecutors of trying to intimidate and embarrass him.

Under the spotlight of the Anthony case, Baez had to retract a claim on his Web site that he won 32 out of 34 jury trials after starting work in 1995 with the Miami-Dade Public Defender's Office. Acting on a complaint, a Florida Bar grievance committee ruled that Baez should have mentioned he was an intern, not a lawyer, when the cases were tried.


Baez criticizes Sentinel
In refusing to be interviewed, Baez issued a statement chiding the Sentinel for writing about him. Commenting on recent coverage, it said "your discrimination against a young, hard-working Hispanic lawyer who represents a high-profile client borders on racism. I wonder what reactions this profile on a prominent Hispanic lawyer will have on your readership."

Baez often mentions his ethnicity when talking about his defense of Anthony. Talking to reporters outside the Orange County Courthouse in January, he said he was the first Hispanic lawyer to handle a case of such magnitude — a claim he has repeated since then.

Asked to evaluate the statement, Ramona Romero, president of the Hispanic National Bar Association, named several Hispanic attorneys across the nation involved in cases of national significance.

"I hope his defense work goes well," she said of Baez, "but for him to say it's the most high-profile case a Hispanic lawyer has ever handled I think is inaccurate."

Baez has characterized the scrutiny and criticism he faces as an unavoidable consequence of his job. He also describes himself as a standard-bearer for future Hispanic lawyers.

"And I will not embarrass those that come after me by doing something as foolish and as unethical as what ... I've been accused of," he said outside the courthouse in January.

Geraldo also brought up that Kronk used duct tape to subdue his ex-wife, then goes as far as to say, remember duct tape over the mouth of Caylee?.... that Brandon is his son and that these people testified under oath.  This is all too disgusting. MB is a major jerk, he knows good and well the decomp rate in high heat. My gosh, Caylee was found  six months later, of course she was going to be skeletonized. They just can't stop coming up with these blatant lies and I'm sure they have only just begun.   ::MonkeyMad::

Since Friday Bobo or members of team Bobo have been on all the morning shows, JVM and Court TV.  Why did he do a no show for his buddy Geraldo?  If they get a change of venue I am going to scream and THEY are the ones all over the channels making sure any potenial jury has information that could cause reasonable doubt regardless of what a stretch it is.

Hornsby, you are being hypocritical & juvenile – if you want to offer legal analysis on this case you can do so without flogging another attorney in order for YOU to get the spotlight of attention in the process, in other words your motive is extremely transparent. If you really wanted to prove a point you would write on the law & the facts of this case without the venom & taking stabs at individuals you more than obviously pointed out as competitors versus colleagues. Put your ego in the trash because the moment you got your “briefs” in a bunch over another attorney’s opinion in this case that is what your ego’s worth became, garbage.

One glaring omission regarding the witnesses against Kronk, just because they make accusations doesnt make any of it factual – they have offered no proof & all they have indicated is that they have discussed what they would say amongst each other, their motive being very obvious even for the most naive, of which I am far from. PS you really should have looked into these individuals criminal records, yea they have them & they will be discredited as witnesses. Baez can attempt to get the recovery crime scene evidence thrown out by attacking Kronk but he will not succeed because the chain of events began at the Anthony home & traced to Casey’s computer, cell phone & Casey Anthony’s car of which Casey herself told others the car smelled of squirrel road kill to make an accuse as to why her car smelt of death BEFORE her arrest – the items found at the crime scene came from her home & were in her possession. If Baez expects to get evidence thrown out with this attempt at crying “tampering,” the same can be said as to why with his & the Anthonys knowledge Dominic Casey was digging & probing in those woods in November 2008 PRIOR to Caylee’s remains being discovered. If any of these revelations Casey’s defense team orchestrated had any merit or would have exonerated their client they would have been shouting it from the court house rooftop well over a year ago, while I agree it is their duty to offer Casey the best defense, their tactics & desperation extremely obvious, this too shall backfire on them & help convict their client.

Geraldo blatantly said on his show tonight that the defense is wondering if Kronk murdered Caylee not Casey — I do believe the lines have been crossed & repercussions will be felt.

ANJM and Sunny-  You both raise interesting points here.  It could be possible that Roy Kronk was looking on someone else's behalf, but IMO, it wouldn't have been Cindy or George because of their erratic and volatile behavior.  IF (and IMO, a biiiiigggg stretch) he was working for an Anthony, Lee would be my pick.

I have friends and relatives of all races (nod to Klaasend-not trying to start anything here).  To quote the Newsboys' song Colored People "I see the beauty in the tones of our skin. ...by God's design, we are a skin kaleidosope." IMO, Baez is using the "they're picking on a Hispanic attorney" to sway prospective jurors and that's why he's working so hard to get the case moved to an area with a large Hispanic population.  His intent is to stack the jury and decry racial prejudice, hoping that Hispanic/sympathetic jurors will essentially side with him...without really weighing the facts and evidence of the case on it's own merits.  I hate deception and I believe Mr. Baez is engaging it on a regular basis.

I remember when he first came on the scene-IMO he seemed to me to be in Baez's camp judging from his initial tv interview that I saw.   In subsequent tv interviews, he has been more illusive, and harder to read, IMO.  However, I can't forget my first impression ...

The media coverage of the Casey Anthony case has taken another strange turn. Now one station's analyst is lambasting another station's commentator.

WFTV-Channel 9 legal analyst Bill Sheaffer dismissed the latest motion by Anthony's defense team as a media stunt. The defense team is pointing to Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee Anthony's remains, as a possible suspect in the child's death. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the child's death. Sheaffer said the defense team's interview with Kronk's ex-wives are worthless because they weren't done under oath.

But attorney Richard Hornsby, who has been a frequent legal analyst on WESH-Channel 2, praised the defense team's motion. "This is the first significant and credible shot the defense has taken against the state. I think it has a high likelihood of success," Hornsby said on the air.

Now on his blog, Hornsby writes that he was "flabbergasted" when Sheaffer described the defense's "tactics" as "despicable."

Hornsby writes, "The very conviction with which Mr. Sheaffer blasts the Anthony defense on the motion makes me question when he last opened up one of those law books he is always sitting in front of." Hornsby says Sheaffer's "legal commentary" has been "completely cheap and false."

I had trouble reaching WFTV news director Bob Jordan this afternoon. But in the past, he has praised Sheaffer's skill and said the ABC affiliate is lucky to have the lawyer in an analyst's role.

In an e-mail later this evening, Hornsby told me that he has never been WESH's legal analyst. "They asked me to comment and I agree," he wrote. "I have also provided commentary for Fox 35 and CF News 13 whenever they asked. But I am not their legal analyst either."

About his blog, Hornsby wrote me: "My post is because I see another criminal defense attorney taking gratuitous and false cheap shots at the Anthony defense for what I can only imagine are headlines. So I responded in kind."

In blog comments posted today, Hornsby gives lengthy and detailed criticism in analyzing the defense motion. He describes Sheaffer as "Mr. Suspenders" and "an attorney who reeks of elitism." Hornsby also tells Sheaffer, "You are ... a sell-out to your profession."

Hornsby's main complaint is this: "I think it is time that someone puts WFTV-ABC reporter Kathi Belich and her sidekick Mr. Sheaffer to task for the pro-prosecution pandering to the anti-Anthony sentiment, rather than providing objective analysis of the legal issues in the case so that the Central Florida community can have an informed understanding of the legal issues in this case."

Hornsby says that he does all of his commentary for free while Sheaffer is on retainer with WFTV.
