MIchigan Trivia for JSM,

The horse poop smell Bearly spoke of was probably on Mackinaw Island, which is in the middle of Lake Huron, just east of the Mackinac Bridge (yep, I checked the spelling, I've always known they're spelled differently, but today it actually matters which is which!). The ferries that take you to the Island are in Machinaw City, which is at the tip of the Lower Peninsula. On the Island, no motorized vehicles (except da one ambulance and cop car) are allowed, everyone travels by bike or horse. And they have a lot of horses...thus a lotta horseshit. You get used to the smell, except on really hot, windless days. I love going there in the fall, less tourists, less poop. We rent horses and go like hell thru the woods!

The movie "Somewhere in Time" was filmed on the Island, mostly at the Grand Hotel. It's an awesome HUGE hotel, longest porch in the world. It's gorgeous...we couldn't afford to stay there, but we did "sneak" thru there. It's awesome!

And, finally, a Yooper is a person who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the UP. Say "UP" and add "er" real fast, and you have a "Yooper". They have an accent that's unlike any other I've heard. It's part Swedish, part Finnish, and part beer. It too is awesome!

Last night I was watching FBI Profiles,and thought this case sounded like Kyron's case.I saw this article.Seems other people think the same.Probably already discussed in that thread.It moves so fast it is hard to keep up.

Thanks for the Michigan Trivia Tevye. That hotel is beautiful. I had heard of the island, but didn't know you had to ride horses around town. Now I understand the horse poop smell.  Part Swedish, part Finnish and part beer. That is too cute.

alert- get behind a travel trailer. They will only go 20 mph, and
they'll get blown over the side before I will. Open all windows all the
way.(Oh, secure any loose papers or lightweight clothes first). Turn up
Dixie Chicks "Wide Open Spaces", and scream the lyrics-wonder if the county will pay to replace a few speakers in my car!. Too busy to be scared..

 When driving thru a severe thunderstorm that I was too stupid to check the weather channel on the XM radio, pull over at least 7 times and add an hour to the drive time. Still, Escanaba to home in5 1/2 hours wasn't bad. It was just that Mancelona to home part that was worse than any blizzard I've ever driven in. And I ...get home...and it's sprinkling! XXX Rd. Magic!

I remember when the Yugo got blown off the Mackinaw Bridge. I am a bridgeaphobe so each time I go over I freak. I have never thought of opening all the windows - good plan next time! 

  A Yugo got blown off that bridge. OMG!!!! I am a bridgeaphobe too TBM!! There are really tall bridges here and I shake when I have to drive over them. And the Ship Channel Bridge down by Houston, I would never drive over myself because I close my eyes when I go over it.   

the Yugo didn't so much as get "blown" over the bridge, it was sorta fuel by booze and a desire to die. In short, the lady driving it meant for it to go over. Hmmm...I wonder if she set her GPS for "hell" in Machinac City? Or, maybe she set it, then ignored the lady, and the GPS took its revenge.

The worst part about the bridge (it's the longest suspension bridge in da world, ya) is driving in the lane with the grid. That noise alone scares da heck outta me. I see it's gonna take a while to loose the Yooper accent, eh? Too funny!

  She intenionally drove it off the bridge? I guess I had a Yugo, I probably would want to drive it off a bridge too.    GPS probably took revenge. Tevye, what is a Yooper?

Thanks TBM, scary about that bridge. I hate bridges. That Ship Channel Bridge in Houston scares me to death, one lady got to the tallest part and tossed her kids off the bridge a few years back. That's another reason I hate that bridge.

Yeah...what the hell was that post about??? pizzed me off when I read it..what was that poster implying or did it just come out wrong???? either way, uncalled for!

sometimes I spend hours on here, sometimes not...as long as my family is taken care of, there is food in my fridge and pantry, no bodys business...I feel like being on here having coffee with friends here is no different than having coffee in my neighbors kitchen,,which I don't do since I have no close neighbors..
sometimes this is the social life of a lot of monkeys and it should be respected as such..
Nonetheless, unless some one is on here all the time themselves and stalking posters, how do they know who is on here when??? take it as a compliment Rosie that someone is interested enough in what you have to say to notice your posts....

OMG! I am laughing so hard - my hubby and 4 year old decided to can tomatoes. Problem is he has no idea how to do it. So he is doing things very strange. Trying to core hot tomatoes after the boiling water bath. I tried to tell him how to do it but, being a man, he thinks he knows better!  I will supervise enough to make sure they are not dangerous and let him have his fun. Perhaps he will know why I rarely can anymore!
