CBB, back in October we made a trip up to your area and cut over to Wautauga lake around the mountains.  I made my husband stop at the top of that mountain and I was in awe of the lake and the mountains (and the leaves had all changed).  We then went over to Elizabethton, TN and that covered bridge in the middle of town was beautiful.  I love those mountains.   I told my husband I want to move to the Shenandoah mountains where my ancestors came from.

The bugs aren't bad, and they aren't big like they are in Florida! Yes, summer's are humid. John was in the Air Force, stationed in California for 2 years. When he came back home, he said he felt like he was trying to breathe through water!

Come on San!

I am calling it a night.  Had to go to the grocery store and get food in this house before bad weather sets in (and so did the entire city).  The shelves were almost empty and the traffic was as bad as Christmas time.  Time for 2 Tylenol and bedtime.

Have a good night.

I made your picture my backgroud on my computer.

It is peaceful, San. The neighborhood has only one entrance, and it's a bridge across a river park, so it's not open to traffic other than to those residents who live here. I've lived here since I was three......... the house my dad built is just beyond the rise in the picture. My son lives there now, and I live up the street the other way. It's an easy walk between the two. I bought the house when my son was 5 months old because it's such a great neighborhood to raise kids in. I love the mountains and can tell better than any weatherman what to expect by watching the sky and clouds as they move up the range. July and August are hot and humid........... good swimming weather. The humidity stops abruptly in Fall and it's usually warm until October and full of Fall colors. January and February can be COLD and snowy, but I loved it as a kid and Spring, to me, is the most beautiful of all. The flowering pinks, purples, and whites of the fruit trees are gorgeous against the new green leaves, and the yellow of the forsythia and flowers is brilliant! I love Spring! The baby deer have their spots and are so cute, and it's common to have to stop the car and wait while Geese or ducks waddle across the street to a pond or the river with their single file brood in tow.  I don't mean to sound like Scarlett O'Hara here, but there's been a lot of changes in my life that I wouldn't have chosen. Those mountains are part of the Blue Ridge/Appalachain range which are the most ancient in North America. I look out the window, or take a walk, and what I see is the exact same picture that I've seen all my life. Those Mountains display the seasons and give showy witness to the order of life; Spring birth, Summer maturity, Fall harvest, and still Winter.......... and then from the bareness come the buds bursting with promise! I can't live at the base of those mountains without knowing there's a plan and an order put into motion from their creation, and it's  bigger than I am! Thank God!

I'll try to take a picture (from the car! brrrrr) of the same scene now. The trees are bare and the mountains have snow. Glad you like it, San!

I can't compete with Sand and Beaches and Sunshine on Blue Seas (Klaas!  ), but for all you Monkeys who are shivering in the Southern Mountains with me, I did take this pic in late Fall one late afternoon while I walked Kubear up the street. I couldn't find a summer pic, but It was WARM and it will be again! I'm going to pretend that's the way it is now.  You guys are welcome to join me in my fantasy!

(I'm totally ignoring the snow on the mountains now............ they aren't white, they aren't white, they aren't white!)

OK, all together now............. ahhhhh, the sunshine feels SO good!

CBB, what a beautiful area and picture....green with envy!!

Oh I just love your country.  Those mountains are so beautiful.  Here is a picture of the Shenandoah valley (where my great-great-great grandfather came from (and this church sits almost on the land he owned):

Blue, beautiful setting...what a sweet little church.

Girl Missing Since 1985 Was Accidentally Killed By Brother

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The cold case of 12-year-old Martha Jean Lambert has been solved. Investigators in St. Johns County say her older brother has confessed to accidentally killing her.

In November 1985, investigators believed Lambert disappeared from her home on Kerri Lynn Road.

"Her brother was the last individual we knew of that had seen her," said Sgt. Chuck Mulligan, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The department always suspected David Lambert knew the truth, Mulligan said. "During that time there was an argument over a $20 bill."

He said that argument happened near the children's home at the abandoned Florida Memorial College. All that is left now is a set of archways and stairs at the corner of South Holmes Boulevard and West Kings Avenue.

Mulligan said David Lambert was 14 years old at the time.
