so they have basically quit searching for her hmmm ??? seems a bit quick to stop doesn't it?
I have the premise that someone got off of Route 8 for gas at the Shell station and saw her before the station and abducted her.
Crime of opportunity.
I don't think Lindsey is around McCleary at all.
The Shell station could still contain images of a SUV, truck or car used in the Abduction. (as it passed by leaving)
I believe the person lives with 120 miles of McCleary and has stopped here for gas before. I bet at the exit ramp there is a sign that says "Fuel next exit".
Sorry to say - but I don't think she is in a basement ... I could be wrong of-course, but I think Lindsey is not near the last known sighting.

Thank you.
I am terrible with maps. Your map and guide makes comprehending the route Lindsey took so simple.
Why would Lindsey take any other route?
I still cannot comprehend the witness sighting when you consider the service station surviellance camera did not capture her image.
Sometimes I get a hinky feeling regarding the entire scenario but ... right now I am not going to go there.
Thanks again Pink Angel.

Janet, an article a page or two back said someone else had come forward Tuesday or Wed. saying they saw her on the walk home. Let me find it for you.

Focus now on abduction
BY JACOB JONES The Daily World
Thursday, July 2, 2009 12:25 PM PDT
JACOB JONES | THE DAILY WORLD
Search crews and dogs continued to comb the streets of McCleary and nearby woods Wednesday looking for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, but authorities have started to shift toward an abduction investigation as the hunt entered its sixth day.
“We are starting to look at this as more of a criminal investigation,” Grays Harbor Undersheriff Rick Scott said. “The possibility that someone has facilitated her disappearance is becoming greater as the hours tick on.”
Baum disappeared late Friday while walking home from a friend’s house. No evidence of her whereabouts has turned up despite confirmed sightings of her just blocks from home shortly after 9 p.m.
Scott said the large search effort from the weekend has been scaled down from dozens spread throughout the surrounding areas to a group of about 20 specialized searchers targeting specific areas.
“We’ve found no evidence of her being here,” he said. “We’ve found no evidence of her disappearance.”
Local authorities, with support from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have stepped up inquiries into people that may have known Baum or lived nearby.
Ron Twersky, assistant special agent in charge from the Seattle FBI field office, said people should report strange behavior or “just anything that doesn’t seem right.”
“The bottom line is we have a missing girl,” Twersky told reporters Wednesday, emphasizing investigators are examining all leads.
Scott said people should watch for any unusual social behavior, ranging from increased alcohol use and smoking to anyone who suddenly wants to leave the area or sell their car. McCleary residents should report any suspicions to authorities.
“They may have an association with someone who knows something,” he said, “so if they suspect that, please be the person who has the courage to come forward.”
Scott said that from the beginning, investigators have explored the possibility of family members or friends being involved. Baum’s mother and the stepfather of the young girl Baum had been visiting just before she disappeared have both taken voluntary polygraph tests to aid the investigation.
“They asked to be polygraphed so that we would be comfortable with what we were being told and we could move on to other things,” Scott said. “They did not want us to be wasting valuable time.”
Scott said he was “comfortable” with their answers.
Throughout the search, investigators have spoken with Baum’s father, who lives in Tennessee, Scott said. The father has now booked a flight to Washington for this weekend.
Scott said authorities have run into several dead ends with almost no signs of the 4-foot-9, brown-haired girl, who was last spotted wearing a blue pullover shirt and blue jeans.
“I don’t know anything more than I knew Saturday afternoon,” he said, “but I’m not willing to admit that I know anything less.”
Scott said bloodhounds traced the route Lindsey took early on from the friend’s house to her own home, but didn’t find any scent. And in places where Lindsey once played — parks and by the creek — Lindsey’s scent has been vanishing.
The loss of scent could be a combination of factors — the heat on the sidewalk could have dissipated it for instance, he said.
Scott said a second person came forward Tuesday with a confirmed sighting of Baum from Friday night in the same area along Maple Street near Fifth Street.
Twersky said the FBI has more than a dozen agents in McCleary assisting with the investigation, including specialists from the regional Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team. Behavioral profilers have also offered input on any potential kidnappers.
“Because this is a missing child, we’ll take any advice we can,” he said.
Twersky refused to speculate on any statistics or chances of locating the girl. He again asked people to report any suspicious behavior, but warned against starting a “witch hunt.”
Few new details were available this morning. Sheriff Mike Whelan and Scott spoke on the “Live at Nine” radio show on KXRO early today in further attempts to get information out to surrounding communities.
“It’s more likely at this point that she’s been abducted than anything else,” Whelan said on the show. “There are so many variables, so many things that might have happened to this child. We really, at this point, don’t know if she went willingly or unwillingly.”
After five days of searching under a hot sun, the group of volunteers and officers was noticeably smaller Wednesday afternoon as they continued to rally at the command center outside McCleary City Hall.
Search dogs rested in the shade. Smaller teams came and went. No planes flew overhead.
Scott said the search would have to continue to expand beyond the city limits, targeting logging roads or other remote areas farther afield. But he vowed it would go on as long as necessary.
“We’re going to bring Lindsey home,” he said. “We will find her. If I have to knock on every door in Grays Harbor County to do that, I will.”

I am sorry, and do not wish to offend anyone. But if there has not been a house to house search done on the route or potential route Lindsey took toward her home, that really sets up my alarm bells. Think Jessica Lundsford in Florida. This makes me think more and more of her being right in the McCleary area. Please God, I hope the LE is doing a lot more than what we know.
I so agree, FM. There was a little girl abducted from my area about 12 years ago when she was 14. She was found in 2006 chained in the basement of her abductor's home. That is so rare, though. The stastics of an abducted child being found alive after beign missing for a week are heartbreakingly low. Nonetheless, I am the eternal optimist, and never lose hope until the moment I'm proven wrong.
Abby Drover speaks out on eve of parole hearing
Last Updated: Friday, January 19, 2001 | 5:37 PM ET
CBC News
The woman who was kidnapped, tortured and raped repeatedly for six months in a Port Moody dungeon 25 years ago, says her tormentor should never be released from prison.
Donald Alexander Hay was convicted in 1976 of kidnapping 12-year-old Abby Drover and imprisoning her for 181 days.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Now, after serving 25 years, he is eligible for parole. His hearing will be held on Friday.
Drover who is now a 38-year-old mother of five will be at that hearing. Although she will be a silent witness, she says her presence is important.
"I feel very strongly about that," she says. "I am very worried about him getting out of jail, and I would like to see that he doesn't."
Drover says it will be heart-stopping to even be in the same room as Hay. She says he is, and always will be, a very dangerous man. "He's an alcoholic and a paedophile, and that doesn't change."

Thank you Pink Angel
Then it can be assumed that Lindsey almost made it home. Are there any registered sex offenders who reside between the sightings and her home?
I would assume that the area has been searched.
What time did Lindsey's brother arrive home.
When did these two witness come forward?
I apologize if answers to my questions have already been forthcoming.

Janet, one of the witnesses came forward immediately (it actually was a mom and her child, so two), the second on Tuesday. They both know the girl.
I don't know what time Josh got home that night. It's never been mentioned.
There are no RSO's on her path home. Just 2 or three in town. IIRC and LE has checked them all out, according to the articles. They did that early on.
As far as her not showing up on the Shell cameras. I saw the position of the 2 cameras and it doesn't surprise me she didn't show up. The positioning sucks.
Here are pictures taken by someone who lives close to the town and went into town to take pictures of area of interest. They give commentary with the pictures. They show both of the cameras at the Shell.

Thanks again Pink Angel.
In the process of elimination
and ... considering she was spotted so close to home in her journey .. did Lindsey's mother and brother take a polygraph? Was there a search warrant for the home and yard.
I doubt that Lindsey would have digress from her destination at the point where the witnesses observed her when it is considered that the dusk would have set in by that point.
I reside a three hour drive from Seattle and ... although it is not dark dark ... the sun has sent at approiximately 9:30 PM every night this week. I have taken note.

Thanks Pink Angel for the link to those pictures. It does look like a sleepy safe little town.
Funny how no one's mentioned the bus station. Why does a town of 1200 have a bus station? Where does it run? How often?
I live in a town of 60,000. We have no bus terminal. hmmmmm...

The mother volunteered one. It stated in an article, as did KaraK's boyfriend. The police said they were comfortable with both of their polys.
The brother wasn't mentioned.
I am sure they have searched the home and yard. That is pretty standard. I am betting it was done voluntarily as no warrant has been mentioned.

I lived in a small town in IL growing up and we had a bus station.
County-wide public bus service is provided by the Grays Harbor Transportation Authority. Bus lines commute through McCleary several times daily to county cities for 50 cents (one zone) and connect with Olympia.
The station is really nothing more than a few benches and bulletin board with the schedule with a fancy roof over it.
Looking at the bus schedule.. the last bus through is at 8:35 pm (heading to Aberdeen) the last Olympia bound bus goes through at 8:25 pm.

I know all about sibling rivalry but ... it has bothered me that Lindsey stated in her Myspace that she was thankful her brother was going to "juvie". IIRC
My grandkids have issues with each other. However ... if one of them were to be sent away ... his/her siblings would be devasted.
Does that make sense?

Missing girl's mother: 'Let her go'
02:38 PM PDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009
By DREW MIKKELSEN / KING 5 News
Courtesy Melissa Baum
A search is under way in the town of McCleary for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.
McCLEARY, Wash. - If a stranger kidnapped 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, her mother says the girl would have put up a fight.
“She has very long fingernails,” said Melissa Baum. “Her brother is proof enough of that.”
Melissa Baum’s daughter vanished while walking home from a friend’s house in McCleary last Friday night.
Detectives said it’s possible the girl ran away, but after almost six days, they said it’s more likely she was abducted, perhaps by someone she knew.
Melissa Baum said she’s confident her daughter did not run away.
“She’s a mommy’s girl, she couldn’t be away from me that long,” said Melissa Baum.
Lindsey’s mother also said her daughter is too smart to be tricked by a stranger to get in their car.
“I joke that she’s 10 going on 16,” said Melissa Baum.
Melissa Baum said her daughter loves to read and write. She was working on a play.
Lindsey also loved animals. Melissa said Lindsey’s pet German Shepherd Cadence has been acting depressed since Lindsey vanished.
“That dog was her pillow,” said Melissa Baum.
Grays Harbor County scaled back volunteer search and rescue efforts Thursday.
“We’re not ending it, we’re just temporarily suspending it,” said Undersheriff Rick Scott.
Scott said most of Thursday’s work was conducted by detectives following up on tips and interviewing potential witnesses.
Lindsey Baum, 10, disappeared Friday from the small town of McCleary.
Melissa Baum said all she can do is wait by the phone for a call from police or Lindsey.
Lindsey’s mother believes her daughter is still alive, but said that is getting harder to do.
"I don't know if they're taking care of her or if they have her locked up somewhere," said Melissa Baum."They just need to let her go, let her come home."
Scott also is urging people to report any unusual behavior that might point to an abductor, such as suddenly cutting or dyeing hair, an unexplained absence from work or cuts or bruises on the arms and face.
Lindsey is 4-foot-9, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.
Investigators say both Lindsey's mom and the father of the friend at the home where Lindsey had just left have both voluntarily taken - and passed - polygraph tests, and they are not considered suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline that has been set up. The number is 1-866-915-8299 or e-mail detectives at:
soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us

Look at that smile! What a cutie!
I am praying for Lindsey. That she is found safe and soon.

I agree Pink Angel.
Lindey is a beautiful little girl and ... I also pray that there will be a positive outcome.

Janet
The mother volunteered one. It stated in an article, as did KaraK's boyfriend. The police said they were comfortable with both of their polys.
The brother wasn't mentioned.
I am sure they have searched the home and yard. That is pretty standard. I am betting it was done voluntarily as no warrant has been mentioned.
Then it can be assumed that Lindsey went missing between where the witnesses observed her and home.
In the process of elimination
... I would sure like to know more about the timeline surrounding Lindsey's brother. What was the fight about ... the fight that warranted him being sent home? What time did he arrive home?
I know all about sibling rivalry but ... it has bothered me that Lindsey stated in her Myspace that she was thankful her brother was going to "juvie". IIRC
My grandkids have issues with each other. However ... if one of them were to be sent away ... his/her siblings would be devasted.
Does that make sense?
Janet
Perfect sense.
I would like to know more too.
My younger brother and I were so close, he was "my baby". I used to play school with him, make him eggs and toast every morning. LOL!
My older brother and I though...we have never been close. We had knock out drag outs growing up. I don't recall us every laying hands on each other though. We just screamed at each other.

Thanks for the posting of the pics...that really helps put things into prespective....so it wasn't all that dark at 9:30.....you would think that on a friday night that there would be a lot of activity in town people going out , shopping, coming to and fro especially at the shell station....seems like someone would have seen something.....it also seems like being that close to home her natural instinct would have been to make a run for it....I think that she trusted the person and went willingly or they lured her up close enough to the vehicle to grab her...maybe asked for directions. The thought has also crossed my mind that maybe someone that was hanging out at the creek befriended her and maybe saw her that night and maybe said that they wanted to show her something at the creek , would only take a few minutes and then they would drive her home? but I think that LE said that they searched the creek area really good....
