I think Baez would have had to make the written plea way before today. Since the GJ is already in process, I do not think they can do anything like that now. Too little, too late.

I don't have a clue how this works, but I would assume a lot of child killers (parents/guardians, etc) would admit to neglect, but not murder.. as long as they have enough evidence of murder, wouldn't they go ahead and charge her for that.. and leave it to a trial jury to convict her of a lesser charge?

Sounds like it's right in the middle and my guess is to address the innocence of his client no matter what the GJ and her father says.  Also to say it's all political.
