Investigators demolish van der Sloot's "crime of passion" defense

Birmingham, Al  (CBS42)  Joran van der Sloot has a proven track record of lying about various aspects of the Natalee Holloway disappearance.  Now it looks like he also lied when he said he killed a Peruvian student in a rage after she found Natalee related material on his laptop.

Timing is the key tp van der Sloot's defense that the death of Stephany Flores was a crime of passion.  The body of the 21 year old was found in van der Sloot's Lima hotel room five years to the day of Natalee Holloway's disappearance on a school trip to Aruba.

Now Peruvian authorities are saying their forensic exam of van der Sloot's laptop shows the Holloway related files were accessed much earlier in the day than the time of Flores' death.

That search reportedly found  that the pages related to Holloway’s death had been viewed on Saturday, May 29, between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., a fact at odds with a "crime of passion" defense.

Investigators also returned to the homes of the suspects to try to re-create transmissions. The team also discovered that some existing evidence was improperly analyzed.

Defense attorneys for the Kalpoes and van der Sloot have said the prosecutors' evidence is flimsy. "To say it's less than nothing is too much," van der Sloot's lawyer, Ariean de Bie, told CNN.

Joran and OM talk tomorrow in the Netherlands

ORANJESTAD – The conversation between Joran van der Sloot and the Public Prosecutor (OM) will most probably take place in the Netherlands tomorrow, said Joran’s lawyer Ariean de Bie.  Van der Sloot indicated last Monday that he is willing to be interrogated again by the police. According to Van der Eem, Joran continued to bombard him with email and sms until the day of the disclosure. 

After he had met Joran in a poker game in the casino, Van der Eem had approached the Dutch police last year with the suggestion to unmask him.  Justice questions the fact that he had given himself up.  Due to the fact that there is no law for special powers to investigate (BOB), deploy a civil informant in Aruba is unfortunately impossible, but this is different in the Netherlands.  Using police-informants is possible, but with ‘a lot of trouble’.  “But that is going to change”, said an insider in the OM.  “A BOB law is in the make and will probably be presented soon.”

Kyle Fleischmann's father releases new clues in case

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) --  Kyle Fleischmann is arguably the most high-profile unsolved, mysterious missing person's case in Charlotte in the past decade.  The 24-year old walked out of Buckhead Saloon in Uptown Charlotte alone and drunk on November 9th, 2007, and was never seen again.

At least that's what we all thought.

But Kyle's father says at least two other people saw him afterwards.  He is sharing these new clues exclusively with WBTV.

LIMA, Peru — A study of Joran van der Sloot's laptop shows he is lying when he says he killed a young Peruvian woman in a fit of rage because she discovered his connection to Natalee Holloway's disappearance while using it, a senior Peruvian police official said Friday.

Stephany Flores did not view any such information on the laptop after accompanying Van der Sloot to the Lima hotel room where she was killed on May 30, the technology chief of Peru's police, Col. Oscar Gonzales, told The Associated Press.

"She didn't view anything about Holloway. It's a lie that she tried to ask him about (the case)," Gonzales said.

Van der Sloot's attorney, Maximo Altez, said Gonzales was wrong, but said he had not yet seen the police study of the laptop, which Gonzales said was sent to the trial judge.

Several Peruvian news media reported on the study Thursday without citing sources.

Joran van der Sloot may have spent the night playing online poker after murdering Stephany Flores, according to Peruvian forensic investigators who have carried out a detailed examination of his laptop.

The detectives also found that Flores did not search for information on Natalee Holloway immediately before the murder, as Van der Sloot claims. The laptop was used to search for details of the Holloway case, but much earlier in the day, Dutch website Crimesite reports. Van der Sloot says he killed Flores in a fury when he saw she was reading about his alleged involvement in Holloway’s disappearance.

Between 04.24 and 08.23 Van der Sloot’s laptop was in use, with a number of pauses, and two poker websites were visited. This could suggest Van der Sloot went on playing poker after murdering Flores. Another possibility is that the murder took place after the poker games were finished. This would mean the killing did not take place during a row shortly after the two returned to the hotel at 05.30, as he claimed in his initial statement to the police.

I turned over all the email addy's I had for Joran. Can't say how tempting it was to have them hacked
right after we learned of Stephany's death. But Justice will prevail.

I cannot comprehend Joran's Peruvian attorney claiming a defence that can be so easily challenged by the prosecutor.  Something does not make sense.
