Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Ron Artest is not doing Dancing with the Stars just to keep himself busy during the NBA lockout. He said recently that while he was initially not going to do it, his daughter Diamond talked him into it.

Diamond is now 8, and battled cancer when she was just 4-years-old.

Artest also attempted to have his name legally changed, but that will have to be put on hold until he can clear some parking tickets. His next court hearing is on Sep. 16, just days before Dancing with the Stars premieres on ABC.

Listening to HLN - Nancy was on Good Morning America this morning - talking about having to bandage up her feet - said she's used to fighting the battle in court but her feet have never been an issue.  Nancy says she's trying to keep up.  Nancy says: bottom line, I'm putting my money with the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

I never stop in over here, BUT I so love DWTS!!!!  Have watched since day one, and I don't think I've ever missed a show.....kind of sick, I know . . . I need a life!  ha

Anyway, y'all will probably croak, but I am looking forward to Nancy Grace . . . maybe I'm naive. dumb. out of it., but I think/hope she's totally different in *real life.*

I was very impressed with her interview a week or two ago with George Stepablahblah on GMA.  She could laugh at herself, and I don't think it was just a put-on.   AND, I am loving that she is donating any winnings/$$$ to the Missing Children.

We've got a name change in Season 13's DWTS.  No, there hasn't been a change in dancers, just one of the dancer's had a name change.  The former "Ron Artest" now to be known as Metta World Peace is paired with Petra Mergatroyd.

Martinez will be showing off those new soft-shoe skills as one of the celebrity competitors on ABC’s upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars,” which premieres in the U.S. on Monday. When Nancy Grace steps out onto the “Dancing With the Stars” ballroom for the first time, she’ll be sporting a look that’s a far cry from the paint suits of her courtroom days. Think lots of sequins, lots of exposed skin.

“I will give you one operative word: sequins. Tons and tons of sequins. Let me say that these outfits are very revealing,” Grace said today on “Good Morning America.”

Grace and her professional partner Tristan MacManus, who are readying to dance the cha cha on Monday night’s season premiere, kept their song choice secret, but dished on her dancing skills.

“I think we get too conflicting stories. According to me, it’s going great, but I’ve got this Irish dance partner and I hear this ringing in my ears every night, ‘No, no!’” Grace joked.

“For me as well it’s going great. I think Nancy just needs to have an argument now and again to keep herself sane,” MacManus said, teasing the HLN host who’s known for her though talk. “Everything’s going great. I’m really happy with how we’re going.”

Grace, 51, has already shed 10 pounds in their hard-core rehearsals. Juggling her daily HLN show, her twins and now rehearsing and appearing on “DWTS” has been challenging for Grace.

Right now, without seeing anyone, I'm crossing my fingers for Nancy Grace, JR Martinez, and Chaz . . . all underdogs of course, and certainly not favorites.  sigh.

Nancy Grace just danced and did really well ~ you could tell she was having a grand time!  I feel happy for her . . . she is outside of her tv/prosecutor persona and seemed to be having a ball.

Carson Kressley was so funny. He was great.

I thought Carson was hilarious . . . and he can dance, too.
Also, I really like JR Martinez . . . and, I was happy for Chaz .  Think lots of folks thought *he* would make a fool of himself, but I thought he did quite well.  He is a big boy!

Hope that Dennis Rodman wannabe Ron Artest(?) who has now changed his name to something wacky goes home tomorrow night.  good grief, I thought he had a skullcap on, but it was his bleached hair with black writing .  ick.

OK, I never watch DWTS but I did watch a little of it tonight.

I thought NG did really well!  She is a good dancer and really looked like she was having fun.  Rickey Lake was good too.  Chaz did very well for someone his size and pretty much not being much a dancer.  He also looked like he was enjoying himself.  I didn't see Carson but I'm sure he was great.   ::MonkeySlide::

Hey, Klaas!  You'll have to break down and watch it this season......other than NCIS, it's the only network tv I watch!

I do have to grit my teeth when Brook Burke starts making/asking her inane comments after a couple has danced.  good grief.

I watched the first hour of DWTS, NG worn a beautiful smile.  I kept thinking to myself- she must have never been to her prom,
she looked stunning, but very out of place, on DWTS, hate me (if you must), but NG has too much class and status to be

Unfortunately, the former President of the United States was unable to join the party.

"This is interesting -- actually they contacted me once about this," President Bill Clinton laughed while answering a fan's question during his guest appearance on "The Rachel Ray Show." "And I told them I didn't have the time to train for it. You know you actually go out there and train -- you really work at it."

After coming in last place on Monday with a weak Cha cha cha that earned them a 14 out of 30 from the judges, Metta World Peace aka Ron Artest and Peta Murgatroyd were eliminated from ABC's hit ballroom dancing competition series on Tuesday.

Rob Kardashian and his partner Cheryl Burke and Nancy Grace and her partner Tristan McManus were also in jeopardy. Kardashian and Burke earned a 16 out of 30 on Monday for their Viennese waltz. Grace and McManus also scored a 16 out 30 for their Cha cha cha.

Harry Connick Jr. hit the "Dancing With The Stars" stage to perform "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," a song from his upcoming Broadway musical revival by the same title. The show is opening in previews at the St. James Theater in November 2011.

Meanwhile, pop hit makers LMFAO performed their hit single, "Party Rock Anthem" and their new single "Sexy and I Know It."

LOS ANGELES — It’s one of the few shows on television that tells viewers exactly what they are going to get: “Dancing With the Stars.”
But just who are the stars?

These days it’s not so easy to tell. When ABC started broadcasting this sequin-encrusted competition in 2005, the celebrities were clearly defined. They were the spray-tanned actresses (Kelly Monaco of “General Hospital”), fluid athletes (Apolo Anton Ohno, Emmitt Smith) and boy-band members (Lance Bass) who risked humiliation each season as they took dancing lessons from an unknown cadre of ballroom professionals.

Six years later the construct of “Dancing With the Stars” is being turned on its head. In some ways those pros — “Cheryl! Maks! Derek!” — have now become the headliners. The increasingly C-list celebrities lined up to participate have found they are no longer alone in the spotlight.

“There is this weird inversion of what the show was meant to be,” said Conrad Green, an executive producer of the show. “Now when our celebrity competitors meet their dance partners, it’s the celebrity who is star-struck.”

Some of the show’s professional dancers now have such big fan followings that “to some degree they are responsible for keeping their celebrities on the air,” said Tom Bergeron, the show’s co-host. “People at home sometimes vote more for the dancer than the star.”

“Dancing With the Stars” returned last Monday for its 13th installment (two a year are produced) and attracted an estimated 19 million viewers, an 11 percent decline from last fall’s premiere, according to Nielsen. The pressure is on the aging series to compete with new Monday-night competition from a rejuvenated “Two and a Half Men” on CBS and “Terra Nova,” an expensive science-fiction series on Fox.

But the star power this season is less than in previous ones, when guests like Kirstie Alley, Jennifer Grey and Donny Osmond competed. The lack of marquee names reflects the difficulty producers are having in landing high-wattage celebrities willing to endure the rigors of the series. Bill Clinton on Tuesday revealed during a talk-show interview that he had considered competing but “didn’t have the time to train.”

In recent seasons producers have increased efforts to position the professional dancers as archetypes who will pop with the audience. Maksim Chmerkovskiy, known to “Dancing” viewers for his no-nonsense teaching style and waxed chest (perhaps not in that order), is “the bad boy of the ballroom,” according to Mr. Bergeron. Cheryl Burke, a two-time winner of the series, is a live wire — all curves and flying hair and attitude.

I had read the article Muffy posted earlier today and I agree that the element of the show has changed.  People are actually turning into the show to watch the Dancers rather than the stars.  Don't get me wrong they are watching the stars also.

I mentioned it to someone that they should do the following to the show:

• Make it more competitive to draw more star quality.  Make it where if you make it to the final three the monetary value goes up.  $1,000,000 for first place, $500,000 for second place and $250,000 for third place.  This would be and extra added bonus.  Sort of incentives.  It would really be a competition where you win something besides the mirror ball trophy. ABC can afford doing this because they are making so much money from this show it's a drop in the bucket.

It would be really neat if each winner opted to donate a portion, if not all the winnings, to a particular charity.  Although now that I've said that, would folks NOT vote for a certain contestant because of the selected charity......oh well, just thinking.

J.R. Martinez has faced a lot of challenges in his life -- including recovering from severe burns he suffered while serving as an Army infantryman in Iraq in 2003 -- but his tie for first place at the conclusion of the initial round of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" in the first week was bittersweet.

His opportunity to move, with pro partner Karina Smirnoff, into the next round came only days before the end of the ABC daytime drama "All My Children," on which he has played injured Iraq war vet Brot Monroe since 2008.

The show ended it nearly 42-year TV run on Friday, Sept. 23.

Martinez and Smirnoff got high marks for their Viennese waltz, finishing atop the leaderboard in a tie with singer Chynna Phillips and her pro partner, Tony Dovolani.

"It's rewarding to know," Martinez says, "you put so much work into it, and it pays off by allowing you a second chance to come back and do another dance. Now I look forward to working on week to, working on the jive, hopefully jiving my way to the top of the leaderboard."

In the waltz, Martinez and Smirnoff tried a risky move, in which Martinez held his partner's arms and swirled her around the floor -- a move that had resulted more than once with both of them in a heap during rehearsal.

This Monday night, Sept. 26, Martinez is really going to have to step up the foot speed for the jive.

All the pros are my favorite...for whatever reason, I fell in love with the flash, glitter,  glam from the beginning.   At first I could not stand Maks, but now, I have to appreciate his body, drive, etc.   Last week when he came down the stairs to the LMFOA I fell over...and ladies, I do not fawn over men.  Well, I did fawn over Nick Lackey's freestyle a few seasons bac.   ::monkeywine2::

Better this week but I saw mistakes...certainly better than I could ever do...She has a naturally graceful body for dancing...she needs to relax.

Me either but I do own a pair of ballroom dance shoes, and they are the most comfortable 3 inch heels in the world!! 

I can't stand Rob Kardashian.  He's just a complainer and lazy.

I have often thought they had to be comfortable...my step mother danced up until the last year or two of her life, her shoes were so pretty.

Well, Derek is Ricky's partner and to me, that's interesting. I think Derek is the best choreographer and it's made a difference for him in the past. This time, he has somebody that isn't the best dancer in the world............. we'll see.

I am agreeing with Len...I didn't like Rikki's dance.   It was if she was just the pole while Derrick danced around her...but Bruno and Care say she did well.

I'm glad for Ricki Lake.  She is trying so hard.  WOW she lost 12 inches in three weeks.

I saw her/him a few years ago on "Sell This House".  He was still Chastity then, and was the nicest person. 
I don't know what I expected, but it was such a neat surprise.  Just a really cute, funny, nice personality.  I am happy for him, if this is what he needed to do.  I admire him for agreeing to the show.

Actually, the neckline was a "V" and that's good, and the waist was at least dropped. The full length was also a good idea.

I watched off and on last night and felt the judges were all over the place..extremely hard on some I thought were very good..it is only week two..and then very lenient with some I thought didn't dance quite as well.

Case in point are Rob and JR even comparable in their dancing abilities...not to me..JR looks so natural and professional out there...and Rob..well...how they could they both realistically have the same score at the end?

I thought Ricki did well..just no sure she was any better then Chynna..and not sure in my mind that Nancy did as well as Chynna..I guess it is all a matter of the eye of the beholder type of deal..but the judges just didn't seem consistent to me last night.

Completely agree about the K's.....and the girls in the house appear to be placed on pedestal's no matter the behavior which have embarrassed most family's..just caused them to reap millions..and what do they all actually do anyway..nada really.

I do feel for Rob in the sense that he seems like he has low self esteem..yet these women he lives with are nothing to look at and not that bright in many ways.  How people believe that Kim K is even pretty or has a good figure I don't get..there again each to their own.

Rob is not a great dancer..but if I were him I'd rather stay there and dance then return to that family.

honestly, I hope that Rob gets more time on DWTS. I think it would be a confidence booster for him. His sisters might be who they are, but I don't want to hold it against him because of them. I like Chaz but I think that he needs to be off since he is having such problems with his knees...will just be a matter of time. not sure that his dance was any better than Robs..

There really is only one choice of who is leaving and that is Chaz.  I have seen others get hurt, ice up and finish well, but I question his ability to do that.

I joined J. R.' face book and his personal motivation site...he sends little motivational notes and keeps us abreast of his progress.

As for Chaz, and probably many others....On Monday I started a weight training program again.  And just like the times before, I could barely walk today..and tomorrow, day three, is generally the worst.  My first time to train I was literally in bed for three days and cried if I had to go to the bathroom.  I had to leave work because I looked like a drunk trying to navigate steps.

A few minutes ago I tried to do my version of a Jive with the squat type stance...oh no!

I cannot imagine how many of them get through the first three or four weeks.

I know! I do any type of working out and I am really sore cause I am not used to it! squats are especially hard!  lol...

Terri ~ you can lift a few weights for me and then do a few squats . . . I'm munching on Hershey miniatures and having a beverage.

Well I was eating a few salt and vinager chips...I hate them, that is the secret to any future weight loss...

I am really hoping I do well this time and stick with it...I let myself go for three years and the muscles are screaming.  Can you imagine muscles screaming AND feet full of blisters?  Nancy said she has bandaids, wraps, etc, UNDER the shoes.   I also heard some of them are literally smiling through the dance while they are in major pain...I do not have what it takes.

We shouldn't forget because they got a high score from the judges doesn't mean they got a lot of votes.  That's why we should always vote for who we like or in my case I knew that I wanted Carson to stay so I gave him my votes because his scores weren't high.

my feet hurt after 1 night  of dancing at a wedding reception let alone dancing for 8 hrs straight..but I could end up with the bodies of some of those dancers, whoa! wish I could end up with Maks' body lol...did I just say that?

When my grandmother was 89, we gave her a subscription to the National Enquirer . . . she was the hit of her retirement community....people put their name on a waiting list to read that rag!  Best gift I ever gave! 

I am dating myself and probably embarrassing my family, but my paw bougth "sex to sexty"...now that was a dirty old rag...full of vulgar jokes, comics, and diddys.   He did not even try to hide it...laid right there on the dining room table.    Maw really did run numbers running up and down the alleys barefoot.   Funny how we think we have progressed so much....degress and suburbia...I;d take my maw any day.

as soon as Elisabetta talked about wanting to settle down and have babies, George was gone. He may end up a lonely old man one of these days..I have a friend like him..dated really cute, nice gals..didn't want to settle down or share his paycheck with anyone..now he wishes that he had someone...

I had a friend like that also, swore he'd never settle down, seemed a different girl every weeks for years......He met a top-less dancer who'd just got out of prison for killing a boy-friend (who happened to be a cop).  Right in front of the bar, she only did a couple of years claiming "self defense"......Anyway my friend ended up marrying her, in the package were her 5 teenage daughters, needless to say....oh well won't say but they all lived happily everafter!

  My grandma was a faithful Queen for a Day follower....She went twice to the show with neighbor ladies and the women both won!  Boy the stuff they got back then was really impressive.

 Of course you had to have a real sob story in order to qualify, those 2 ladies were really good.  Grandma was considered a "good Luck" charm after those two wins but she wouldn't go back with anyone else because she didn't think either one of them deserved to win.

There were people who really got robbed over the years that were sent home. If Elisabetta didn't go this week I think should would have been gone next week.

The reason I think Chaz should go is because he just can't make it any further.  His entire body hurts and his weight isn't helping him.  His knees are too sore to continue even though I do like him.  I hope Cher shows up next week to see him at least one time.

San ~ I agree.  It was just a matter of time for Elisabetta.  Really a shame she has no fan base.

About Chaz ~ I would hope his Mom ('cause that's what she is!) would make an appearance.  And frankly, what a coup for DWTS if Cher did show.  ummmm, we'll see.

There was no translation necessary for Italian model and actress Elisabetta Canalis when she learned of her fate on Tuesday night's "Dancing With the Stars."

The foreign beauty, who improved but ultimately failed to impress the judges with a lackluster quickstep Monday night, welled up with tears as she and partner Val Chmerkovskiy stepped forward to speak with host Tom Bergeron for the last time.

"For me, it was a gift ... it was a great experience," she said, smiling. "It was a great adventure so I want to thank everybody."

Chmerkovskiy, who made his "DWTS" debut opposite brother Maks this season, looked tight-lipped at the elimination but said graciously: "I'm very proud of her. I'm sorry, I wish I did better for you."

Canalis, who stunned in a flowing pale blue gown Monday, was able to rack in a modest 21 points, but "kind of fell apart" without direct guidance from her partner from week one, the judges had said.

For those of you who don't regularly watch ABC's reality competition show, let me fill you in on how it works, at least for the first few weeks. If you're a great dancer, you're likely safe. If you're a terrible dancer who's a more popular celebrity than everyone else, you're likely safe. If you're an okay dancer and people aren't overly invested in your life, you may well be packing your bags. That's what Elisabetta Canalis found out last night, but if you listen to her partner, there was very little shock involved.

Canalis' partner Val Chmerkovskiy stopped to talk to People after the announcement, and he was tactful but very clear about what he saw as the reasoning behind the duo's elimination…

Elisabetta Canalis has had a hard week.

First, she was accused of sending her ex George Clooney and his new girlfriend nasty text messages, and then she was eliminated from Dancing With The Stars.

But the A-list actor has come to her rescue, making a rare statement on his personal life.


And Elisabetta certainly didn't show any signs of distress yesterday as she strolled the streets of West Hollywood with her two beloved dogs.

George showed he still cared for the Italian model as he took time to deny a story in US Weekly.
It said Elisabetta had sent him and his current flame, former wrestler Stacy Keibler, hurtful messages.

She reportedly became angry after having to learn about the new romance through the press.

But George said the story 'was completely fabricated in order to sell magazines'.

'I never comment on my personal life unless it affects others... and this lie affects others,' he told TMZ.

'Since I would be the only actual witness, I ask you to correct your story immediately, but that would assume you cared at all about telling the truth.'

Los Angeles police determined that a white powder found Wednesday in a letter addressed to the television show Dancing With the Stars was harmless, authorities said.

The suspicious white powder was found around 2 p.m. in a mailroom at CBS Television City, a large studio complex, according to Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

A hazardous materials team was called in to gather the powder and test it before declaring it harmless. No one was exposed to the powder and no injury has been reported, French said. The envelope was addressed to the show, not a specific participant, he said.

“Outside of mail room operations being suspended for a few hours, no business operations or show productions were affected,” said CBS spokesman Chris Ender. He declined comment on what safety precautions CBS may take in the future.
White powder has repeatedly been discovered in the mail at CBS Television City. A similarly harmless envelope of white powder was sent to Dancing With the Stars in November 2010, days before the finale where Jennifer Grey, Kyle Massey and Bristol Palin faced off for the prize.

The sole Kardashian brother was so delighted by Carrie Ann Inaba's compliment after his jive performance with Cheryl Burke ("It's official. Kim Kardashian has done it. Rob Kardashian is doing it. And now their stepdad Bruce Jenner ready to take the floor on Dancing With the Stars.

"They've never approached me," he tells Lifeline Live, "but I would do it." Jenner, who won a gold medal for the decathlon in the 1976 Summer Olympics, has some knee issues, but he says, "I could do a good job. It'd be right up my alley."
But first he's cheering on Rob. Jenner can often be found in the ballroom on performance night. "I have lots of children. Every night I gotta support somebody. Right now he needs my help."

Don't get him wrong. Jenner, who we will see walk Kim down the aisle in E!'s upcoming two-part special, Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event, premiering Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, says DWTS has been "great" for Rob. Hi, y'all!  Another night of excitement . . . putting my nest together right now.  Just hoping the Rangers baseball game ends quickly with a win!

The teachers at school today were discussing who needs to depart, and I was shocked that the other 5 said David Arquette ~ I kept my big mouth closed, all the while thinking he'll probably be there a while.  who knows!

It sounds like the only slowwww dance will be Nancy's slow waltz to Moon River ~ OMG I LOVE that song . . . junior high school. sigh.

I think there are a couple of foxtrots, but I can't remember who . . .

Here are my projections from last week.

As for story telling, I am now wagering Nancy's will be about having her twins.
J. R. 's will be about the acident and pheonis rising.
Carson's?  Who knows, but it is going to be good!

I am watching him, it is his upper body...the boy cannot 'feel' the music...some people feel in their blood and move even when the music is in their head, not him.   He is feeling it in his mind and maybe a bit in his heart, but not in his soul.

Carson's story broke my heart.  He noted how the judges comments last week make him feel like that dorky teenager being picked on.  And he danced well.

J. R. told about his accident, and having dedicated the dance to those who served and those who did not return home,  he ended his dance by walking off the stage into the fog...

Chaz,  just could not bring it.   It was as if he barely moved.

Here is something I have been thinking about today;

I do not think the really thin girls look good in the costumes or are as sexy in the dances.  I tend to like the girls with hips and clearly defined waists.  I like the way Lacey Scwimmer looks in her outfits.

I read the tabloids were being very harsh about her weight, she said she was anorexic as a teen and would train ten hours a day.  She was homeschooled and only ate a pack of slice meat most days.

I love it!!  I did not know Chubby Checker was still with us...and Len looks so sophisticated...I would like to see Len dance.

They need to lay off the weight issue on this show.  They used to tease Cheryl about her weight.  I don't like the skinny ones either.

I didn't know Chubby was still with us either . . . that's why I thought it was like an *elvis sighting* . . . love Len, even when he's being critical he does it with class.   Dances the same classy way, I'm sure.  Elegant and sophisticated.

I never knew that about Lacey . . . I like it that she doesn't have that matchstick head/q-tip look . . . she looks real, thank goodness.

My six year old will not hush...he keeps saying "mom, the judge is out there".  "do you see him", etc.   If he were not already so immersed in gymnastics and swimming I would let him take ballroom dancing.   But I do not agree with the ten hour training days to be successful.   

As for San, we are doing our positive thinking to keep Carson.   I too gave him some of my votes.  2 for Carson, 2 for Nancy and 6 for my J. R.
