Deputies Say "Significant Skeletal Remains" Found

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Orange County deputies said Thursday that "significant skeletal remains" were found Thursday afternoon and that the first tips about the area came in as early as August. A late Thursday afternoon media briefing from the Orange County Sheriff's Office revealed new details in the search for more evidence after a child's remains were found less than a half-mile from the Anthony home.

Capt. Angelo Nieves said the search was expanded after "significant skeletal remains" were located Thursday afternoon. He said the newly found remains are consistent with the remains of a young child. Nieves said the area is not going to be released until possibly as late as Saturday.

"We will release the scene when it's appropriate to do so," Nieves said.

Nieves also said the utility worker, who led them to the remains after finding a child's skull a week ago, had called dispatchers three times in August about the possibility he'd found something in that area, on August 11, 12, and 13. Nieves said at least one deputy was sent to the scene and investigators are now investigating that yet-to-be-identified deputy, talking to dispatchers who took the calls and interviewing the utility worker.

Nieves said the man likely came back to the scene last Thursday because it had been nagging him.

"He is not a suspect in this case," Nieves said early Thursday evening. "He is a credible witness and we consider him so at the Orange County Sheriff's Office."

Also Thursday, the sheriff's office released dozens of images showing the search scene. The images didn't reveal anything and do not show any actual evidence, but some of the images do give the closest look yet at the search scene from the ground

I am a little behind on this news conference, but is it possible that it was this deputy that searched the area? The tips were called in mid-Aug ... this guy fired on the 20th.

A deputy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office has been fired after investigators said that he lied about a relationship he had with Casey Anthony.

An interoffice memo (click to read) dated Aug. 20 obtained by FOX 35 in Orlando provided some details into the matter involving Casey and Deputy Anthony Rusciano.

"When investigators contacted Deputy Rusciano by telephone, Deputy Rusciano admitted that he had met the individual for a very brief moment at a party they both attended," wrote Chief Frank Fabrizio. "Deputy Rusciano denied ever having any further contact with that person."

Investigators say Rusciano provided inaccurate and incomplete responses after they discovered communication between he and Casey following a search of her computer. Upon being confronted with the evidence, he admitted to lying to investigators.

"Lying to investigators during the course of any investigation is unacceptable and reason for termination," Fabrizio wrote.

I don't think this is good news for the prosecution.  I just can't believe this has happened.  How could this guy have been so concerned to call 3 days in a row and then not call again for months???  It just doesn't make sense.  So...KC buried her hamster there and then sat down on a blanket with her friend and ate Cheetos.  At least she cared enough about the hamster to give it a proper burial...more than she did for Caylee.
Now, Channel 6 is saying the fact that her friend has done a paid interview with the National Enquirer, it may compromise her testimony as a credible witness for the State of Florida.  I feel like I'm going to be sick!!!

Didn't the hurricane come through shortly after the 13th?  Didn't Tim go there on the 17th of August and say it was covered with water?   I think the bones were distributed by an animal or by the flood waters.  Perhaps the meter reader couldn't get back to check until the waters had subsided.  what do you think?

I have been keeping my distance from this case because I got too wrapped up in it but this development is not good. The defence is going to use this to their advantage.

I read that the duct tape was COMPLETELY AROUND the skill....makes no sense.
I still don't understand why anyone would wrap a child's skill with duct tape.
If it was over the mouth area I could understand that but completely around and over the hair? Nah doesn't make sense.

I don't know how much more I can take of this insanity.    Is it possible to ban myself from this case?  I need a Red Button.

I had read that the meter reader was German, as in nationality or ethnicity.  If his last name is Gonzalez, that will complicate things, but Gonzalez is like Smith is terms of Hispanic names.

Nieves is really sticking by him.  You know they have interrogated the hell out of him.

Did he say the bag was gray?  I had pictured a black trash bag.  Hmmmm Lots to be cleared up and very, very confusing.

It is also Hell for the Anthonys because they still do not know if the child is Caylee or not.

I suppose the bag could have been on the side of the road, and later animals dragged it into the woods, especially if it smelled bad.  Animals such as raccoons, foxes, coyotes, Florida panthers, if they are around there would ahve done that and scattered the remains.

Rusciano's IM conversations with Casey were discovered August 18th. He was fired August 22nd.

I'm telling you, he's the deputy that responded on the 13th. He "didn't find anything". The spot goes underwater like, two weeks later, so OSCO can't go back and re-investigate that tip.

My hunch:
The Utility worker felt he had a strong indication of something in August. He called it in -- no one responded. He called again - no one responded. The third time he called, they responded and no one "found anything." Water filled up the area after the storms. He was still bothered about it, was in the area and now noticed the water had receded. He made up a "white lie" story about having to pee and happened upon it (although he WAS looking again on purpose). He found it this time. (I bet he didn't think they would remember he called it in back in August).

Bottom line --- why didn't Le follow-up or find it back in August???? --Just my guess

Hubby and I just talked about this. You answer seems plausible.  I will believe that this man had a strong feeling that something wasn't right back there.  We all thought about this area and we didn't WALK by it at least 1 time a month.  Ya know?  I am glad he found her. 

I am angry that his prior tips weren't heeded.
