Shed Divi
December 14, 2009, 13:43 (GMT -04:00)
KRALENDIJK - Atlas Smit Salvage has a new date pinned to the plane of Divi Divi and the body of pilot Robert Mansell of the seabed to achieve. If everything goes as planned, happens Friday. This is another, larger boat entered sea due tug Indus Bank remained stable enough not lie. Which boat will deploy Smit, is not yet published.
The salvage operation began on Wednesday, December 2 and was about three days to complete. But Smith seems to have misjudged the strong currents off the south coast of Klein Bonaire. The Indus Bank had to be held stable because each meter of literally a hitch could come. That was over two times. New cables should be flown from the Netherlands but then got the ROV (Remotely Operating Vehicle) leakage. The high tech robot has been dried. Two weeks later than planned, nearly three months after the emergency landing of the aircraft, it still seems to happen.

Interesting article from right after Joran's interrogation in Holland. I guess it proves more than ever that we should always consider the source. JMO
http://getagripmonkey.blogspot.com/
Justice interrogates Joran
Amigoe.com
02/09/2008
While he was secretly being recorded in conversation with ‘informant’ Patrick van der Eem, he was under the influence of marihuana, said Joran van der Sloot in the interrogation with Justice.
ORANJESTAD -- Joran van der Sloot declared that the conversations in Patrick van der Eem’s car, were carried on under influence of marihuana. He said this at a police station in Rotterdam, where he was voluntarily interrogated yesterday morning.
Detectives of the Aruban police and of the Corps national police service (KLPD) and
his Dutch lawyer were present at the interrogation
that lasted about two hours
, said the Public Prosecutor (OM).
Other than that, Van der Sloot stuck to all his prior declarations in the investigation. He denies having anything to do with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, said the OM. He could leave after the interrogation. The examining magistrate decided on February 5 that Joran van der Sloot is not to be detained. The OM has appealed that decision and expects a verdict from the Common Court of Justice.
The OM has called on the media in a press release not to launch a witch hunt around the Holloway-case and to abstain from investigations of their own. “The interest for this case seems to degenerate into a witch hunt, whereby several people are being menaced in an intimidated manner”, is the opinion of justice. To the OM, these practices are ‘unacceptable’. People are being marked as suspects without any confirmation and menaced as such with all its consequences. Besides, other than causing big unrest, journalistic investigations harm the criminal investigation, said justice. “Without wanting to harm the value of free press coverage, justice would like the media to be reserved, exactly for the above reasons.”
The OM mentioned as an example the media hunt on an accomplice that Van der Sloot mentioned. After this person (Daury Rodriguez) had declared that he has nothing to do with the case, all eyes focused on a next person (Lorenzo van Rijn).
“The cameras were all around his house”, informed district attorney Dop Kruimel. “He had to take on a lawyer for the contact with us.”
If necessary, the OM will also protect the suspect Joran van der Sloot. The OM is also of the opinion that yesterday’s words of Justice-minister Rudy Croes were premature. Croes wants to declare Joran van der Sloot persona non grate.
“The boy is not convicted yet; besides, there are a whole lot of judicial hurdles ahead, before he can be refused admission to Aruba. He is legally admitted anyway”, was the reaction of the OM.
Many institutions, official bodies, lawyers, journalists, and psychologists are asking themselves how to handle the outpouring of Joran van der Sloot before the hidden camera. According to law psychologist Albert Wagenaar, there is not even a confession in the revealing reportage. There is no solving of the case and it is no confession of a criminal act, ’because none is indicated’, said the psychologist.
The ombudsman of NOS, Tom van Bussel is of the opinion that the NOS should have been more reserved in reporting Peter R. de Vries’ claim that he had solved the Holloway disappearance-case. After the coverage of SBS6 on Sunday evening it appeared that De Vries’ promise is not fulfilled. “What we know now is that Joran is a confused guy. Like a source of the OM phrased it: ‘We thought that we would get a solution, but what we got was another of the so-many stories”, states the ombudsman on his NOS-website.
At this moment, the Dutch Council for Journalism doesn’t want to say whether certain publications in the Joran van der Sloot-case have crossed the borders of careful journalism.
Nevertheless, top executive of the Dutch OM, Harm Brouwer praises De Vries for his coverage. The chairman of the college of procurator-general said in an interview in Trouw last Friday that De Vries has delivered good journalistic work. “The criticism from media circles on De Vries is pretty hypocritical”, said Brouwer. “What he did is a logical continuation on a trend that is going on for years. He is in many respects a journalistic professional.”
Brouwer wants a social debate on citizens that are actively involved in tracing activities. That is just a detail. The point is, where private investigation must start and where it must stop.”
BALKENENDE
Premier Jan Peter Balkenende assumes that, during his Aruba-visit this Friday, the Holloway-case will come up for discussion in his conversation with Premier Nelson Oduber. He said in the TV-programme
EenVandaag
that this is the case of the judicial authorities and that he must not get involved. He pointed out the complexity of the case. Van der Sloot’s statements are indeed arguable; Daury said that he was not on Aruba when the affaire took place. Balkenende will be on Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles for five days, starting on Sunday.

PdV: "Many think he is a lucky escape, but nothing is further from the truth."
Oh well,
FJ: "I think he is a lucky escape, and I am convinced that I'm very close to the truth."
Few questions that emerged after a first night of digesting this DeVries air bubble broadcast from yesterday.
Firstly, let's remember that half of the Netherlands was after Joran immediately after the DeVries program in Feb 2008. News made it firmly to the frontpages of all national newspaper. The atmosphere had even become a bit 'lynch mob'-ish in a town in Friesland where Joran alllegedly stayed. And in this surreal and threatening climate, our Joran walks into an interrogation room to make a voluntary statement that is was all bullocks what he had told Patrick. Of course his parents/lawyers had adviced him to do so, but...
...where was his lawyer (father)? Clearly not in the room. Why on earth would a lawyer let his (young) client go all by himself into this interrogation room?
Secondly, I was struck by the total disrespect and even arrogance that Joran displayed. Not a single bit of shame about the national TV broadcast and what he had told Patrick in the car. It was just a fantasy you know. Such a sick personal damaging story that was broadcast for 7mln people where he even had the guts to abuse a very sad story about a missing girl in which he was the main suspect! This total lack of emotion, empathy or even a touch of shame, is pretty stunning.
Joran was is so darned certain of his case, that it almost must make the Daury helper a total bogus. Joran has nothing to fear from anybody. He is now absolutely convinced that there will never be any witness or any body showing up. But of course he needed the Daury character to impress Patrick. In the crime scene you won't score points by disposing off a dead body only. Much better to shift that accountability and the associated poor judgement to somebody else. Better to show how good a liar and manipulator you are. And how well you can bullshit yourself out of difficult situations. And in all fairness, that is a skill Joran possesses.
Any normal human being, who is innocent of a crime, would repeat over and over again that they haven't done anything wrong. Esp. in such a stressful situation. Except for Joran. He keeps his mouth shut and refers to his watertight last statement from June 2005. Whatever it is was he stated, he didn't even bother recalling, he knows it is good enough to keep him out of trouble.
No body, no case. No witness, no case. He is totally safe now.
And the scary part of all of this... ...Joran seems to enjoy these power plays with the police... ...and although very unprofessional, I have some sympathy for Dolphi's verbal explosion during the interrogation.

ORANJESTAD — Patrick van der Eem was sentenced by default on account of threatening and possession of marihuana. He was fined 2000 florins. Van der Eem was acquitted on possession of cocaine. The lab report with the outcome of the coke-test had namely not been added to the dossier. However, according to the Public Prosecutor it had only regarded 0.2 grams.
The Public Prosecutor had demanded a fine of 2400 florins. Van der Eem had been arrested on August 25th for possession of coke and marihuana and expressing a death threat and/or grievous bodily harm. Upon his arrest, he had possessed a user’s quantity of hashish and marihuana of 2.4 grams. According to the Public Prosecutor, the penal acts had occurred between August 14th and 24th. Van der Eem had received the offer from the Public Prosecutor to pay 2000 florins for these violations. However, as he did not pay this, justice decided to press charges against him.
Between August 14th and 17th, Van der Eem had seriously threatened a co-worker of the Westin hotel several times. The problems had arisen when he had refused to pay an addition 200 dollars which hotel guests are charged for smoking in their hotel room. Van der Eem had subsequently been put out of the hotel. However, he had returned regularly to threaten the co-worker. Van der Eem had supposedly told the victim that he would kill him or shoot him to death. According to the Public Prosecutor, he had expressed the following threat: “If I see you on the street, you will find out what will happen to you”. Van der Eem had also said: “Come to my car and then you will see what happens, I will shoot you down”.

DH's relatives were scheduled to return today. They stayed at the Marriott this past week. Not sure they'd be aware of any celebration for Zeolla. I will have to wait to see what kind of trip report they have, if any.
Klaas gave me some boots and gloves/mittens. Seems Bearlyhere was worried about me and maybe she was right. Maybe I wouldn't have had that upper respiratory thingy if I was dressed properly for the weather.
I am sending the chicken soup right over to go with them, check for flying reindeer. We have connections here, where do you think Santa got the idea of a red and white outfit?......from the Phillies, of course!

Is it just me, or isn't it a bit odd for someone to commit suicide by drinking poison?
That's a pretty painful way to go - and there are other, much less painful ways a person could remove themselves from this world.

Is it just me, or isn't it a bit odd for someone to commit suicide by drinking poison?
That's a pretty painful way to go - and there are other, much less painful ways a person could remove themselves from this world.

I was shocked at the manner of death chosen too!
I was thinking an actual "poison" rather than an overdose, because of the description of the strong odor of the poison in the house.

"I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.
