Chavez Devalues Bolivar 50%, First Time Since 2005 (Update1)
January 09, 2010, 11:47 AM EST

(Adds percent of imports at preferential rate in the 11th paragraph.)
By Daniel Cancel
Jan. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela devalued its currency by half yesterday, the first such action since March 2005, as President Hugo Chavez seeks to pull the economy from recession amid falling oil revenue.
Chavez said the bolivar will be devalued to 4.3 per dollar from 2.15 per dollar for most imports. A second, subsidized peg of 2.60 bolivars per dollar will be used for importing food, medicine and machinery intended to boost the economy’s competitiveness.
The Central Bank, which agreed yesterday to transfer $7 billion in reserves to the government, will “intervene” to prop up the bolivar in the unregulated parallel market, Chavez said, without providing details.

This was one of my favorite documents, and since it's a quiet day, I thought I'd repost it

Blessings to all who will not quit until Natalee and her family receive justice

http://scaredmonkeys.net/index.php?topic=615.0

Aruba – Surely You Know?

D. HOLLOWAY: They're the last -- those three boys were the last ones with Natalee. And they hold the answers.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0506/23/lkl.01.html

JUG TWITTY: I've already faced him face to face that night. I faced his father face to face. And you can look at somebody, Nancy, and tell if they are lying or not. And he's just -- it's pathetic.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0506/29/lkl.01.html

GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY, STEPFATHER OF NATALEE HOLLOWAY: From the beginning, Beth and I were there that very first night. And I still believe that, of course, Joran is involved, Deepak`s involved, and the father is involved.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0507/28/ng.01.html

BETH TWITTY: "we've known from day one that Deepak and Satish Kalpoe are way deeply involved in this crime with Natalee
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0508/18/lkl.01.html

1- Aruba, surely you know the United States of America was founded on justice for all. Yet you have denied justice to an American citizen and her family.

2- Aruba, surely you know the questionable tactics used in investigating the Natalee Holloway case would be easily recognized and exposed. Yet you did them anyway.

3- Aruba, surely you know Jan Van Straten is a close friend of main suspect Joran Van Der Sloot’s father, Paulus. Yet you allowed him to continue for months as Lead Investigator of the case.

4- Aruba, surely you know the Dutch judges’ decisions were highly suspect and biased in favor of the Van Der Sloots. Yet you allowed them to stand anyway.

5- Aruba, surely you know it is never good to blame a victim for their own death. Yet you have tried to blame Natalee for hers.

6- Aruba, surely you know it is never a good idea to trash the family of a victim of a crime on your soil. Yet you trashed the Holloway Twitty families constantly.

7 -Aruba, surely you know that Natalee was kidnapped - or do you actually believe that the other "twenty" went "willingly" too?

8 -Aruba, surely you know that killers who hide from justice will surely strike again.  Yet you’ve let them go free.

9 -Aruba, surely you know that Paulus held his "no body, no case" meeting on May 30, after Natalee was murdered by his son?  Yet you awarded him money for his obstruction in this case.

10 - Aruba, surely you know that all those missing files and statements made by the "Dutch Boy" didn't walk away from the file cabinet by themselves? Yet you’ve held no one accountable for that.

11 - Aruba, surely you know that dropping GHB into an innocent unknowing tourist's drink, doesn't turn the tourist into "willing" and "wanting" to be kidnapped, raped and killed?  Yet you’ve charged no one with these crimes.

12 - Aruba, surely you know that the rich Dutch elite in your society are the ones who benefited from this travesty of justice?  Yet the framed black security guards are still considered suspects.

13 - Aruba, surely you know that Dompig was fired and never "retired"?  Yet you continue to promote this falsehood.

14 -Aruba, surely you know that what goes around, comes around again? Yet you keep obfuscating the truth.

15 - Aruba, surely you don't buy Joran's story that he left Natalee "on the beach"? Your polis don’t believe that story – yet you’ve not re-detained him to try to get to the truth.

16 -Aruba, surely you know that Joran raped and murdered Natalee and his accomplices raped her too.  Yet they are all still walking free.

17 - Aruba, surely you know that allowing Paulus Van der Sloot to drive himself to jail in his own car when you arrested him would send a clear message of corruption and your intent to make a farce out of this investigation.  Yet you allowed him to do it.

18 -Aruba, surely you know that Natalee did not willingly go with three "Arubans" knowing that she would be kidnapped, raped and murdered.  Yet you allowed your polis to attack her character.

19 – Aruba, surely you know there are corrupt cops in your dept.  Yet they have faced no punishment.

20 – Aruba, surely you know the computers were tampered with.  Yet you failed to have them forensically analyzed.

21 – Aruba, surely you know the missing documents from Joran’s file were taken by Paulus van der Sloot.  Yet you failed to hold him accountable for that.

22 – Aruba, surely you know the Security Guards were set up.  Yet you have not charged those witnesses for lying.

23 - Aruba, surely you know that you cannot drug, rape and murder an American tourist and not pay a heavy price for it.

Aruba, Surely you know we will never give up until Natalee and her family receive justice!

IIRC some of the most recent articles I recall about it was that the funding for it had not been secured.

It would probably be interesting to know where that funding came from now...  JMO

The FBI is all up in this case. There is the simple point of JURISDICTION. The Dutch Kingdom is a sovereign country. It will hurt the case if the defense at some point in the future will suggest that the FBI interferred with the rights of the accused.

Look Aruba up properly, The US has an immigration and customs pre-clearing post in Aruba. We have a FOL (Forward Operating Location) for the US (Look up what that is!). The US has been investting in Aruba since 1929. We have MAJOR chains of American multi-national hotels in Aruba. The Ritz-Carlton is set to built in Aruba.

Do you think we WANT to f*** it up with the Americans???

The government and the Judicial Branch has allowed anything the family has asked for. The FBI, Miami-Dade Police, Dogs and now a Texan search team. Anything they wanted. Except…compromise the
investigation.

Lawyer Hendrik Croes after the interim order on the sale of books of the missionary ship Logos Hope.

ORANGE CITY - The missionary ship Logos Hope can still sell books. That the court decided yesterday that the foundation after an interim Peniel Baptist Church on behalf of the ship has filed against the government.

The missionary ship that docked last Wednesday may now, by Father Thomas Martis of Peniel Baptist Church, book sales but must pay this tax and bbo.

Previously it was Michelle Hooijboer-Winklaar Minister of Economic Affairs, Social Affairs and Culture for permission to sell books, because there would be a settlement and because the interests of local bookshops in the proceedings would be. During treatment brought the lawyers and Allan Kuster Vinda de Sousa on behalf of the Government argued that in November the Logos Hope was proposed to trade in their books through a local bookstore or organization smoothly.

Logos Hope it worked, from the sale of books according to their costs, not to do it they get, and finally before the arrival of the ship by the Minister announced that, unlike previous years, there no permission would be granted for the sale of books.

The missionary ship comes to Aruba since 1987 and to date the Aruban government had no objection to their sales. This argument brought their lawyer, Henry Croes, also highlighted. Besides a ban would infringe the universal right to exercise religion, expression and dissemination of literature. The lawyers said the government this time that the government does not interfere with their right to expression wanted. In addition, not only religious books sold on the Logos Hope, said the advisers of the government.

The ship will remain until January 17 in the port of Oranjestad and is open daily. Besides selling books to members of the ship also carried for prison and hospital visiting. They also share out food to homeless people on the island. On the ship itself, various activities organized for youth and adults. Thus erv tours and activities for children, including seminars for married couples, and of course prayer events. One of the bigger events is an AIDS / HIV benefit concert by gospel singer Martin Fire on Friday, January 15. More information about the ship on www.logoshope.org.

Stanford Aruba bankrupt

January 9, 2010, 12:03 (GMT -04:00)

ORANGE CITY - The court on December 11 last year the Aruban establishment of the Stanford Group declared bankrupt. Jeannot is the curator to Cuba and appointed in accordance with its law firm Van Eps, Kunneman, Van Doorne has established "millions" of guilt.

How many millions it does, the firm can not tell. There were not many creditors have been reported since the news of the bankruptcy until this week known. "But it is a great Aruba bankruptcy," said one employee. The company, with eight employees, has among others a substantial debt to the landlord. The office of Stanford Group Aruba was on the second floor of the Marisol Building LG Smith Boulevard. It is not officially a bank - it is located in Antigua - but a representation which is operational since 1989. The Belgian-Dutch Fingers Hoedt was French director, and under his leadership were also known brochures with high interest rates offered.
When the law on credit institutions (LTK) was introduced ten years later, the office received the attention of the Central Bank. This was concerned about the practice of Stanford and Aruba has issued several interviews conducted with them. This assured that no Stanford deposits below the 100,000 florin be done, something that is against the law.

Victims
Stanford is not formally monitored by the Central Bank, because the company is not in the commercial bank as it is registered as an investment consultant. Two law firms in Aruba have emerged as advocates for the victims. These include at HBN Law, who also represents injured clients of the Netherlands Antilles. Caroline explains that Fievez advocate for her clients only progress in the Stanford International Bank in Antigua can be done. "There is the money paid." The curator, who claims all the world to identify the Stanford Group, says it certainly will take a decade before we see some of their money back.

Central Bank indicted
Martin James & Associates, the other law firm in Aruba that helps victims. But the firm does so in any other way. Lawyer Gabri de Hoogt has a fifty victims on behalf the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) charged with inadequate supervision on the activities of Stanford Aruba. To this end, the Foundation established Stanford Aruba, so called in a class action structure the Central Bank for the justice. September last year filed a claim with the Court of First Instance. The Bank, according to the lawyer replied that they do not take liability. In February, the Hoogt expects to submit the reply. "Stanford Group Aruba presented itself as a true investment consultant, but acted as a credit. People had money, and that was subsequently transferred. "The lawyer meets Stanford Aruba so the description in the law on credit institutions (LTK) and the Central Bank had to be necessary. "It is not known how the creature, but what does the creature."

Record number of cruise tourists

January 9, 2010, 12:03 (GMT -04:00)

ORANGE CITY - The port of Oranjestad Last year a record 606,970 cruise tourists welcome. More than 16,000 tourists more than in record year 2006. This, the Aruba Cruise Tourism Authority (ACTA) and Aruba Ports Authority (APA) announced yesterday afternoon. January 2009 was almost 100,000 cruise tourists the best Mon

ACTA informs that among cruise tourists are counted only those who called Aruba a cruise passenger fee charged. The 2009 report by Business Research and Economic Advisors (BREA) over the period 2008-2009 by a total of cruise tourism 46.2 million U.S. dollars spent. This represents an average of $ 183.55 per cruise group of 2 persons. In the same report we read that about 40 percent of the crew of a cruise ship disembarking in Aruba. In the 2008-2009 cruise season, which were about 93.000 people with a combined purchasing power of 6.5 million U.S. dollars. This number is also not counted in the number of cruise tourists.

Cruise Tourism is one of the industries by ACTA that despite the crisis continue to generate revenue for the ports and companies in Aruba and the Caribbean. Expectation is that the cruise tourism this year will have more problems from the effects of the recession. The Cruise Authority is also proactively involved in cooperation, communication and the establishment of strategic partnerships for the effects of the recession at minimum. As the example shows ACTA contacts with Carnival Cruise Lines and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA). "Of course we will continue good cooperation with Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor Otmar Oduber (AVP), APA and the Aruban Tourist."

The Ritz Carlton has been a sore subject on Aruba for some time.

Charels Croes was writing articles against it's development long ago

Thanks, Magnolia.  When I read that article, I thought I remembered conflict about it's development and it not going through.   I guess $ talks....

IIRC some of the most recent articles I recall about it was that the funding for it had not been secured.

It would probably be interesting to know where that funding came from now...  JMO

Didn't the 4 headed CapsLockWizard post that the Shango riddle was about the Ritz Carlton at one time?
Something about two puzzles....one about Natalee and one about the Ritz Carlton?

100-year-old Olga Ramirez: "If I could only turn back time"

January 9, 2010, 11:58 (GMT -04:00)

Infirm but also as healthy as a fish. The origin of Venezuelan Olga Ramirez celebrates its 100th anniversary in Cas Betesta.

ORANGE CITY - "If I had a time machine, then I tackled my life is quite different," said Olga Ramirez today has become a century old. The 100-year old moved into the thirties from her native Rio Hacha, Colombia by ship to Aruba. She met her sister, who already lived here, helping with the children. "If not for my sister had been lying, I never came to Aruba," says Ramirez.

by our reporter
Shade Cybulkiewicz

Ramirez is one of the few people in this world a century to celebrate. "I have no recipe for perfect health to get the 100 years. My whole life I have eaten and done everything and have never done sports or something. "Despite the 100-year old well. Says one of the staff of the home where she lives that Ramirez is the only one of 20 other elderly people who reside in the home, whose memory, hearing and vision is so good. "She's very sharp and has a memory from here to Tokyo and do not take any medication," says Patricia Davila employee of the home Betesta Cas.

Regret
If Ramirez looks back at how her life has expired, she has many regrets. "I've been so hard here on the island," she regrets. She says about her marriage. "I had a man that I was married about 20 years, I was really unhappy with him. I also never able to master language Papiamento, and that has always been an obstacle here on the island. "Ramirez will not like the language Papiamento. According to her Papiamento a Spanish language version of the sick. If Ramirez could turn back time, she never moved to Aruba, but simply remained in Colombia. Furthermore, she hates to travel by ship and by air. "The sky is for the birds and the sea for fish," she notes. Highlights and happy moments in her life knows Ramirez not to mention. But she said not long to live longer. "What good is it to live like nothing you can do for yourself. I sit all day long in this home and can even do anything and also I have no family here. "

Today is the 100th anniversary of Ramirez in the Cas Betesta celebrated. Thus, all media are also invited and nieces for the occasion from Colombia to Ramirez 'birthday to celebrate with her. In addition there is also a ceremony held by a pastor. When the year was asked whether she is looking forward to celebrating, she was not really aware. So she responded: "It will all be. I do not see why it should be celebrated. I don 't care. "Finally she gave advice to all young women as not just someone to marry. "Before you know it you must maintain the man," the 100-year old.
