Here is an update to the searches that were done yesterday on the Griffis/Sheffield properties.  We all want Haleigh found and returned home, but thank goodness they didn't find anything yesterday. (I am referring to the excavating, etc...)

Haleigh search resumes

Published: Saturday, June 27, 2009 12:39 AM EDT
The search for Haleigh Cummings resumed Friday on a farm owned by her mother's family.

Forty officers from five different agencies scoured property in Baker County looking for the blond-haired Satsuma child missing since February.

Authorities dug up an animal grave and checked ponds for the child's remains.

The property is owned by the family of Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, and was requested by the family, said Kim Picazio, who is Sheffield's lawyer.

I asked this morning, but maybe nobody knew the answer, is that common to bury horses on one's property? It would seem that would take quite a bit of work to do, I honestly don't know, but it sure would seem to be.

it does seem like a lot of work doesn't it? why not just have it hauled away? when we lived on a ranch as a kid and a cow or animal died, someone came and got it and disposed of it...can you imagine how deep a hole would have to be to bury a horse?? and why do that?

Just bringing this over from the last thread so I can give my own answer.....
My sister has horses buried all over her 43 acres. A backhoe was used to dig the holes.
Here is some info I found via google...

*
"We requested that they came out and search thoroughly," Picazio said. "It's very important to this family to clear their name and to make sure their name and to make sure their property was free of suspicion."

The family told authorities of dead animals buried on the property before the search began.

"We did an interview with some family members and they disclosed they buried some animals out here during the time of the Haleigh investigation, so we thought we should come out here and search the property over just to verify that these were just dead animals and nothing else," said Capt. Dominic Piscitello, chief of Putnam County's Major Crimes Unit.

Approximately 45-50 acres of property were searched, Piscitello said.

The body of a horse buried on the property was excavated and a forensic anthropologist confirmed no human remains were there.

"We found nothing that would indicate that Haleigh was here or has been here," Piscitello said.

Picazio said the area of Sheffield's grandfather's home had been searched, but not the area surrounding the Sheffield property.

In addition to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, agencies involved in Friday's search include the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Baker County Sheriff's Office and dogs trained to locate cadavers.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team additionally searched ponds on the property, with nothing found.

No other searches are planned, Piscitello said.

The kindergartner was reported missing at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10 by Misty Croslin, who is now married to Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. She said she had put Haleigh and Ronald Junior, Haleigh's little brother, to bed at 10 p.m., and awoke at 3 a.m. to find Haleigh gone.

A national Amber Alert was issued for Haleigh at 8 a.m. the same day, and remains in effect.

Divers, ground searchers, bloodhounds and helicopters scoured the area around Satsuma throughout the week for the little girl, and horseback riders searched deep wooded areas, but nothing was found.

Authorities said they believed she was abducted, since the child is afraid of the dark and does not wander off alone.

More than 4,000 tips have been received by law enforcement, said Lt. Johnny Greenfield, a spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities are hoping to receive information that will enable them to locate the little girl.

"The sheriff's office will follow up on any piece of information given," Piscitello said. "No piece of information is too small."

To report tips, please call Crime Stoppers at (888) 277-8477.

Does this mean....no other searches planned, period?  Are they finished searching for Haleigh?
I know that family wanted their names cleared, but this had to have cost the counties a LOT of money, I do not understand this LE, nor their methods in this case.  I don't know how much money a press conference would cost...but twice a month would be helpful, even if it were to say Nothing New....

good morning, and I agree with you Klass.  Just seems odd, after all this time, that now they look on that property.  After all, a cleared land, does not clear them. It just means Haleigh is not there.  But, at least they are searching.  mio
