I've been following all you monkeys for nearly a week now, long enough for carpal tunnel syndrome and dowager's hump to set in.  Back and forth, Monkeys, then Riehlworld.  

The younger brother's site is full of pics made when he and Joran attended the 2004 Model UN in Caracas.  In pictures of "Da Crew" you see those hand signs over and over.  Same is true when you view pics on the Pancaliente site showing shots from the Quinanciera (spelling??? 15th Birthday Party) for Sasha.

Perhaps someone has addressed this in another forum, but I am curious just who Sasha is.  Is she the sister of one of Joran's friends posing in a group shot?  This is the fellow who did bunny ears behind Joran.  I should find urls.

The van der Sloots seem like a nice family who have a son who has hooked up (or been hooked in by) with the wrong people.  As tragic as this is for the Holloways, it is also tragic for the van der Sloots.  I add Joran's family in with my prayers Natalie will be found alive and well.

Yes, I believe Sasha is the sister of one of his friends. As I dug aroung through myspace, I found some more photos "somewhere" (too many days and posts ago to remember). And I do agree that the VDS family may be a nice one, but as we all know, one bad seed can come from a bunch of good apples.   (thinking of Scott Peterson's family, Mark Hackings family, etc)

You know what I am just discovering and I am new to this board and have not read through all the posts yet so please bear with me if this has already been brought up.  When I look at pictures of the boys.  The original three last seen w/Natalee in most pictures they are throwing up a gang sign.  While I am not very familiar with all the different signs it looks as if they are throwing up what in America would be the Vice Lords gang sign.  Has it ever been brought up that these young men might be involved in a gang?  Do gangs exist down there?  I don't know but I have seen it over and over again.

I'm so very glad you posted this. I had noticed the signs in many of the pictures of the young men from Aruba but wasn't sure what they meant. I asked my 11 year old granddaughter and she said she thought they were suppose to be peace signs. Obviously we're naive and don't live in an area where gangs are very visible.    Now at least I will be informed enough not to be giving the "peace sign" to people.

 Subject: My son has been shot in Falujah..

I wanted to get everyone to pray for my son Chad. Today, Sunday, I got a call from the Army that my son had been shot in the head. I am asking for all your prayers. He was in a Humvee going through Falujah fighting and a gang of militia fighters fired on the Humvee and hit Chad in the head. The driver got him out of the city and took him to Baghdad. He was in fatal condition, but now has been upgraded to stable critical. His dad and I are on standby to fly to Washington then on to Germany as soon as the military calls us to go. The Army is trying to stabilize him enough to fly to Germany and at that time we will leave.. Please pray that my son will not have brain damage and that he will be restored and healed by the blood of Jesus, and the grace of God. I ask for you to pass this prayer request on so there will be many prayer warriors praying for him.

Thank you so much and I will try to keep you updated on his condition.

I want to bring something up that I have not seen much recent speculation about. As more people are being "detained" and/or arrested, and as NH's mom seems to have expected this (and may still expect more), it's beginning to seem a bit more likely that jvds and the kalpoes are either part of (or drew upon the resources of) some sort of organized scene (drug dealers? underground partiers? porn producers?)?

I've also read that it's possible that, even in what would SEEM to be the  worst-case scenario from their point of view (being found guilty of murder), the boys could face a maximum sentence of 20 years' jailtime.

If organized crime is involved, particularly drug-related, might not that sentence be lighter than what would happen if JVDS and friends revealed a larger network? Is it possible that they are keeping quiet (as we assume they are doing, mostly) because "telling" could result in future threats to their lives?

Or maybe that's too Sopranos-y. Just a thought.

I do not understand your the concern IF proved they are inocent.  

Don't want them released when it's obvious they've at the very least got guilty knowledge.

At the very least, they should be charged with impeding a criminal investigation with at least one bogus story apiece.

If Natalee' mom (after talking in person to Joran) is convinced that he DOES have something to do with her daughters disappearance, then that is good enough for me! A mothers instinct is the strongest instinct there is!
