December 30, 2009, 12:51 (GMT -04:00)

ORANGE CITY - The Key Largo Casino yesterday afternoon was officially declared bankrupt. Utilities WEB and Elmar view with the curators on how the amount of over two million florin to come to the casino still had to pay them. The 74 employees receive their severance pay today or tomorrow.

According to chairman of the union Clear Rudy Geerman, employees of the Key Largo Casino welcome the ruling of the court. "It was of course foreseeable that it would be declared bankrupt," said Geerman. "With the prospect of the severance in the casino employees in any case money bag to the year to start. Previously dismissed employees were not money, "said Geerman. The union is waiting to see what the government will do to save the jobs. "I am convinced that a new hotel operator quickly will give a new start. Then, most employees of both The Aruban Resort as the Key Largo Casino get their jobs back. The hotel offers many business opportunities. Eighty percent of the timeshare is sold. "

Legal battle for taxi permits

December 30, 2009, 13:27 (GMT -04:00)

ORANGE CITY - A group of 26 persons from the court to compel the government that they still get a taxi license. Minister of Tourism and Transport Otmar Oduber (ASF) had their pledges for a taxi license was revoked and that the group disagreed. Anthony Ruiz lawyer representing the group in the case which was yesterday.

Former Minister of Tourism and Transportation, Edison Briesen (MEP) had 52 people promised they would get a taxi license. Oduber has withdrawn that promise. The argument was that the licensing process "was not properly conducted" and that the former minister had abused his position. These commitments "not legally binding on the government", said Oduber. Moreover, he argued, there is no need for new taxis.

Nonsense, find lawyer Ruiz. "There have been ten years no new taxi licenses issued. In this period, tourism has grown tremendously. "The return of KLM and Carnival Cruises and the increase in flights of American Airlines makes it necessary according to the lawyer that more taxis to drive around the island. It also highlights the El Gaucho restaurant popular with tourists. "After dinner, tourists may have to wait twenty minutes until a taxi comes."

The counselor also believes that the commitment for the license "not just" be granted. They are well substantiated and not against the law. "My clients can have confidence in the decision of a minister," said the lawyer. "The granting of the taxi permit also costs the government nothing, it just gives them money in the form of taxes and fees." The overall taxi would also improve if more taxis would come, and that again is positive for tourism. Ruiz asked the judge to force the government to return to the revocation or other damages attributable to its clients.
The court will rule on January 6.

The minister also submit to the MPs that the use of the FOL FOL's is governed by the Convention, since it questions whether it is true, "as some press articles claimed that the Government of the Netherlands Antilles may authorize the FOL for the use of aircraft and ships from the U.S., without consulting with The Hague ".

"This treaty provides under Article II to authorize the United States for access to and use of Hato International Airport in Curacao and Reina Beatrix Airport in Aruba, and designated ports and facilities, solely in connection with drugs from the air strike. "The last flight of the U.S. Drug exploration from the base Manta took place on July 17, 2009. On September 18, 2009 was the basis formally transferred to Ecuador. With that, the use of Manta by the U.S. formally ended. The Ecuadorian government has studied the use of the base. There is no operating agreement that the continued use of the basic controls. There is an agreement which regulates the procedure between the U.S. and Ecuador, where the air force, navy or coast guard of the U.S. ships under Ecuadorian flag would want to inspect. This Agreement is separate from the U.S. use of the Manta base, which has been terminated, "Verhagen said.

According to a statement by the Minister of Defense of Ecuador Ecuador in the past would not "direct control" have the information that was obtained by the flights. "The information gathered by the flights was given to a coordination center in the U.S. which also Ecuadorian liaison officer was (and is) linked. This past flights would be conducted with other objectives than drug control by the U.S. denied. The Ecuadorian authorities have not indicated that many flights would be carried out with no outstanding drugs would have to give Verhagen.

We've never been on a flight to or from an island that wasn't full, but we have always had a non-stop flight.  I just looked at available JetBlue flights for tomorrow from Aruba to Boston and 4 came up.  One non-stop and the other three layover in NYC.  All had around 3 or 4 seats available.

Sorry for the O/T but I had to post this here in hopes "BlueMoon" would see it!

Rare New Year's Eve 'blue moon' to ring in 2010

By ALICIA CHANG, AP Science Writer – Tue Dec 29, 7:03 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – Once in a blue moon there is one on New Year's Eve. Revelers ringing in 2010 will be treated to a so-called blue moon. According to popular definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a month. But don't expect it to be blue — the name has nothing to do with the color of our closest celestial neighbor.

A full moon occurred on Dec. 2. It will appear again on Thursday in time for the New Year's countdown.

"If you're in Times Square, you'll see the full moon right above you. It's going to be that brilliant," said Jack Horkheimer, director emeritus of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium and host of a weekly astronomy TV show.

The New Year's Eve blue moon will be visible in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa. For partygoers in Australia and Asia, the full moon does not show up until New Year's Day, making January a blue moon month for them.

However, the Eastern Hemisphere can celebrate with a partial lunar eclipse on New Year's Eve when part of the moon enters the Earth's shadow. The eclipse will not be visible in the Americas.

A full moon occurs every 29.5 days, and most years have 12. On average, an extra full moon in a month — a blue moon — occurs every 2.5 years. The last time there was a lunar double take was in May 2007. New Year's Eve blue moons are rarer, occurring every 19 years. The last time was in 1990; the next one won't come again until 2028.

Blue moons have no astronomical significance, said Greg Laughlin, an astronomer at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

"`Blue moon' is just a name in the same sense as a `hunter's moon' or a `harvest moon,'" Laughlin said in an e-mail.

The popular definition of blue moon came about after a writer for Sky & Telescope magazine in 1946 misinterpreted the Maine Farmer's Almanac and labeled a blue moon as the second full moon in a month. In fact, the almanac defined a blue moon as the third full moon in a season with four full moons, not the usual three.

Though Sky & Telescope corrected the error decades later, the definition caught on. For purists, however, this New Year's Eve full moon doesn't even qualify as a blue moon. It's just the first full moon of the winter season.

In a tongue-in-cheek essay posted on the magazine's Web site this week, senior contributing editor Kelly Beatty wrote: "If skies are clear when I'm out celebrating, I'll take a peek at that brilliant orb as it rises over the Boston skyline to see if it's an icy shade of blue. Or maybe I'll just howl."

DH's family's trip report isn't much.   I'll give you what I have.

1. Family member's husband likes it there, the wind does mess with a golf game.  Said the food was better than other islands they'd been to.

2. Family member said it is not her favorite island.  It's ugly compared to other places she's been, but concedes being with her children and grandchildren was wonderful.  Nothing but rock & cactus away from the beaches.  Kids won a couple of beach games.

3. Went to Mass twice at Santa Anna Church in Noord.  Wooden kneelers with a piece of carpet to place on them if you wished...not air-conditioned and hot.  Went there because of the time choice for Mass.  Other members of the family did not go back the second time for Dec. 8th Holy Day....it was just too uncomfortable.

4. They were all-inclusive but mentioned that looking at the menu prices for breakfast, they knew that others were paying very high prices if not on that type of plan.  They were a party of 9 and they said it would have cost them $200 for that meal.

5. Singer at Mass was excellent.  He was recognized at the hotel a few days later by one of the kids.  He had been selling CD's after the first Mass they attended but they had left.  He offered to send them to them and he did.  He's from Long Island, NY.

That's all folks.

Yes, I read it at work today.  Seems the only thing I can read are news stories.  I am having withdrawal not being able to check in occasionally.  They really know how to make the workplace dull and boring.  I will take a look at that "Blue Moon" myself (going to Gatlinburg to ring in the New Year).

I will take this opportunity to wish all my dear "Monkey" friends an extremely prosperous New Year to you and your family.

Here's hoping 2010 will bring Natalee home to her family.  Come on Aruba--do the right thing and give her back to her family and her country.  You know who's responsible for this tragedy.  Go get them.  Only then (maybe) will you be able to salvage your island.  No promises but try it and let's see.

I also will pray for the missing and murdered children.  Justice for all of them.

Have a good one.

Have a great trip and a great New Year's celebration Blue Moon!

I stand with the girl, Natalee Holloway.

"I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.

Thanks 2NJ!

Forgot to add that the priest who said Mass was with the singer at the Marriott hotel.....not sure if it's the pastor who did not meet with Dave Holloway....but wonder about his attendance and purpose.  Just don't know.

We have a  MSN spider  07:54:43 PM Viewing the topic Lorenzo - June 2005 information and RaceJunkies posts.

I can't seem to find my way to the site meter!!  Where did it go??

Aren't spiders just a way for google, yahoo, msn to update their search engine info?  I believe Dugga shared this with us when the forum was up and running.  In fact, the spiders count as guests.

Yes

Thank you, Klaas.
