Caylee Marie Anthony - MURDER TRIAL - DAY 1 - 5/24/2011

It is very late for me, but I can't seem to get my mind to quit whirring...The opening day of this trial has been something that I have looked forward to for three years.  I loved the prosecutions opening statement and was prepared for the typical Bozo bumble.  I wasn't surprised by the throwing of everyone except Mother Theresa under the bus, but something is burning a hole in my heart.

Yes, i know in his vain attempt to justify the actions of his client he had to give some mitigating factors, and I was fully expecting the sexual abuse aspect to come in.  But for the love of God, why was it worded the way he chose to do so.  Such a vile, disgusting statement that I won't repeat it  here.  Why did he have to be so graphic, to create shock in the minds of the jurors -- how did that help to prove KC innocent?  Why be so explicit that he had everyone disgusted by the visual image?  Sexual abuse is a horrible thing, but why did he make the audience an unwitting participant in his sensationalized attempt to cast his client as a victim.

Lawyer are suppose to be wordsmiths; why did he create such a graphic, if not pornographic, image.  I don't understand and can't believe that the jury felt anything other than disgust -- not toward George Anthony, but for Baez who was more interested in getting the jury's interest at the expense the memory of a murdered child.  Prurient images are only intended to inflame and exploit the emotions of the jurors. 

I deplore what Baez did today.  I feel that not only I was needlessly verbally assaulted, but that Caylee's memory was also sullied and soiled unnecessarily.  What will many remember about the opening of this trial?  Not that it was about a murdered two year old, but that it was the case in which a defense lawyer described oral sex as an excuse for the crime.  I am sorry, sweet Caylee, that you again have been victimized.   

Yes, it was deplorable. As much as we have made light of "farmville woman" on the jury -- I feel that woman was just plain mortified. Just reprehensible.

Come on................... no matter how bad a upbringing you had (including sexual abuse, torture, waterboarding etc.) you have no excuse to murder your own child or even covering up for an accident, the abuser, or your own shortcomings. I just don't get where the Defense is trying to go. It's just frickin' nuts.

Do you think this is why they dropped the docs a few weeks ago?  Maybe the docs weren't willing to go along with this defense.  I really think that the pros will be ready to shoot holes in this swiss cheese defense.

Of course they will! Like I said earlier -- the Defense team is doing Casey no favors.

give me a break! I was sexualy abused by my stepfather at a young age!! seen him shot  standing next to me by LE in self defense. I was so traumatized as a child and  teenager. I was so quiet in school if anyone talked to me I would cry and break out in hives!!

I was a little girl didnt understnad!!  he used to say were gonna run away and get married... my punishment for not being his child was 8hrs ironing for the 11 kids they had togehter..my real f sister died when she was about 1 yr old and two weeks later my real father was murdered...
I could have become a psycho bitch.. but I had the will to come out a survivor ... in those days no shelters .. no advocates for these things...   I could have been worse than casey.. I chose my reality... and that was to be a better person  ... I didnt dwell on it!!

Good night everyone! I hope you all get some good sleep tonight. 6 am is so early on the West coast. During jury selection I had a terrible time staying awake.

I gotta be honest.  If I did not work nights so that I was still up in the morning, I would miss all the morning court.  I am not a morning person and have trouble waking up, mainly because it takes me so long to fall asleep. 

I give all you morning birds a ton of credit.

It took every ounce of my contempt for the duffense today to keep me up till the end of court.  As soon as court let out, I ran for a nap.

First of all, I think he IS on the list. 2nd -- I don't think the Defense could have invoked his name without prior knowledge of the court or the Prosecution. His testimony/presence will be heard at this trial.
