Awesome! I have no idea how the people in the vehicles on the George Washington Bridge felt when they saw that big plane coming at them. I have been on it many times, usually on the top lane because the lower ones are the local lanes. The trip across is terrifying on a good day, the lanes are not really very wide and the whole bridge shakes constantly if you stop. Definitely a white knuckle drive from one side to the other.

Fanny, I get freaked out when I am driving on Hwy 114 and I see planes coming over me.

The only people in our United States that are not immigrants are the Native Americans. There are good people in every race....just as there are bad people in every race. There are just as many bad whites as there are any other race.
I am not slamming your opinion Scarey , everyone is entitled to there's , just wanted to point out that not all people are bad and mean us harm.

I'm glad you said this. As much as possible, and WITHOUT LOSING THEIR OWN CUSTOMS, people who come to America should assimilate. So, we can have the Polish festival...and the committee is headed by the owner of the grocery store. We can have teachers from Russia, who also volunteer with the Boys and Girls Clubs. We can't expect everyone who comes here to drop their heritage. We can, however, expect them to leave their feuds and predjudices at the border.

I used to hate the term "Celebrate Diversity"...I thought it was devisive on the face of it. Now, however, I like it. It means I keep my German traditions, AS LONG AS THEY DON'T RUN COUNTER TO THE UNITED STATES' CUSTOMS AND MORES. That's where the line has to be drawn.

When France sent settlers to the New World, they could only be Catholic. The rulers of France thought that would assure a "pure" race in a new (hopefully soon to be all theirs, France's) country. Racism was practiced BEFORE our first immigrants got here. It's a problem as old as civilization.

I am sorry if I took Scarey's post wrong, but it just bothered me. I agree that our borders should have been closed  on 9/11. But in reality this whole country is based on immigration. None of us would be here if it had not been.

  You are exactly right. The sad thing is, even if we closed the borders there are still ways for the bad guys to get in. Legally and illegally. Then you have good people that pay out their arse just to keep their work visa up to date. I think it cost my skating coach over 5 grand to get her work visa updated.

I-285 around Atlanta used to be the worst. You could see the planes coming straight at you if you were eastbound. They got lower and lower and at the last minute I-285 took a jog, the plane went right over you and you could see the plane touch down on the runway to your left. They have changed the road now, and I think there is a tunnel and the runway goes over the road.

We have changed so much, our country, going from all white, having black slaves, to letting the black live like humans, and that is PC in my book.

Going from all white marriages to inter racial marriages being leagal, that is PC in my book.

Who back when America was a proud country, would have thought we would have gangs?? How many american white gangs do you see?? if any there are fighting for their nieghbor hoods. fighting ppl who came in and took over peddling drugs, raping, killing and robbing, we never had this until they came here!

Who back then woulda imagined a black person as the president? let alone a black muslim who wants to make peace with our enemies, i am game with that AFTER you bring our American's home, not leave them there for bait while you kiss the muslim and iraq leaders @$$!!

Ppl woulda never even imagined black ppl on tv, you'd chit ur pants if u heard wht my great gpa said before he dide when he saw black ppl on tv! there is nothing worng with them on tv, or living here.

The violence that other races are bringing with them is what i have an issue with!

We cant even say the pledge of allegance in schools, they want to take god out of the pledge?!?!?!

The president wouldnt swear in on a bible!

Where did we go so wrong, we are disgracing and smearing the pride and accomplishments of our fore fathers our ancestors and all americans who died and did all they could to give us this country and these ppl have come in and ruined it!

I am not here to start an argument or to say what is politically correct or not. I tend to steer away from discussing politics period. But some of the above post bothers me.

First of all America did not start out as all white....The Native Americans were here first and our forefathers came to this country and pushed the Native Americans onto reservations and took their land. Millions were killed and most live in poverty. 

Also the blacks did not come here. They were sold by their own people and brought here by our white forefathers. They were forced to work like animals and were treated like animals. No human being....whatever their color or race should be treated that way. But even whites and other nationalities were brought to this  country as slaves. Slavery of another human being is wrong no mater what race.

Also there are many white gangs in the United States. It is not just other nationalities that are causing murder and mayhem on our soil.

  Thanks Tevye, that is something I have always thought too. My BGF's grandparents came from Moravia, learned English, spoke Czech to their daughter (she knows words, but not many) because they made her learn English and they became American's first, Czechs second. They NEVER lost their heritage and neither did the rest of the Czechs that settled into a small town south of Dallas.

I didn't know about the French wanting their own special "pure" race/religion and that is why they came here.

But I did read something the other day that made me proud to be an American.

George Washington put a stop to Guy Fawkes celebrations because he wanted his troops to be Americans first and religious differences second.

Don't get me wrong, JSM loves Bonfire night, Guy Fawkes masks, Penny for a Guy, etc. It is a tradition now, not an anti Catholic holiday. More like Halloween than anything. Anyways sorry for the rant. JMO JSM

The thing that gets me riled up is that the illegal immigrants come here wanting the Americans to change their way of life to suit them. I am Scotch/Irish. And I guess the Irish were treated about as bad as any immigrant that set foot on American soil in the old days. They were treated like slaves, and worked liked slaves. There was a lot of mistreatment by our forefathers for many so-called minorities. But those people are all dead in the graveyards, and there is nothing we can do but do better.

My hubby is Hispanic and is proud of his heritage. We celebrate his customs, and he celebrates mine. I have been to a Muslim mosque for their prayers, and we were well treated. Several of the ladies came to a dinner with us, and we all brought food of our heritage to share. I grew up with black neighbors, he was a fireman, and I played with their children. This was in the south in the '50's. My best friend for many years was black, and we did everything together. I loved to go to Polish Festivals, Greek Festivals, Cajun Festivals...you name it. I am not a bigot.

But I draw the line at people who live among us who want to kill us and take our country away because I am an American and I am not a radical Muslim. I will not hand it over silently without a fight. I won't! I wish I were younger..I hope there enough younger people than me that are willing to carry on the fight, because I think this is our way of life for a long, long time. I knew it the day the second plane hit the towers on 9/11. Our country would never know peace again.

Ok I was not being racist, I was using just a few examples of how the world has changed, yes from the indians then more ppl and more migrated, not everyone got along but they made it work. The agreed on things and decided upon the bill of rights and constitution.

The more the states  have progressed the worse they we have gotten. Maybe some of my examples were poor and it didn't give every example or included every race.but it is my opinion.

U can also note that I stated they were good imigrants and that their were bad imigrants, legal and illegal.productive and destructive. We have a lot of destructive ones that are influencing good ppl and making things worse and puttin shame to our country.

America is a place were everyone can be themselves as long as it isn't harmful to ppl and the country. That's where it gets bad. Ppl shouldn't have to lose their religion or customs but should be open to all others!

We should be able to love and trust our neighbors as they did back in the day but know ppl don't trust others and love or accept them, times have changed.

So I didn't have the time or wana take up all the space to note every migrant, every race, every slave and everything that has changed, the fact is we r not the country we used to be, we r not a smooth melting pot of cultures we r a jaded group of ppl who are trying to make it work.

While was in my dentist's waiting room a couple of weeks ago, waiting to have my teeth cleaned, I was reading National Geographic--an old one, of course, it was a medical office!  Anyhow, the article I was reading was about how early humans wiped out the Neanderthals, although we had a common ancestor.  In fact, they ate them. Now, that's discrimination!
