Morning all

I hear we are surfing today.  I took boogie boarding lessons when I was in San Diego a few years ago.  It was very bad.  I was caught in what they told me was the rinse cycle which meant I was taken down under the water and hit my head on the bottom of the ocean.  I was so disoriented and glad to be on the beach after.  I think I will stay on the boat and watch you guys surf.

Nova Scotia autistic boy who went missing has died, health officials say

HALIFAX, N.S. - Officials at a Halifax children's hospital say a seven-year-old autistic boy who went missing from his Cape Breton home has died.

Jocelyn Vine, vice-president of patient care for the IWK Health Centre, said James Delorey died earlier Tuesday. "It is with our deepest regret to advise you that James Delorey passed away at the IWK Health Centre early this morning," Vine told a news conference.

Vine then read a statement from Delorey's family: "The family would like to thank everyone involved in James's care. It was amazing to see how everyone came together. It really kept my hopes alive. We will have more to say later after we've had some time."

Delorey was rushed to the hospital after he was found suffering from severe hypothermia in a wooded area in rural Nova Scotia.

The boy was reportedly unconscious when he was located by ground search teams Monday near South Bar, outside Sydney.

Police said Delorey had wandered away from his home in South Bar on Saturday afternoon while following his dog, triggering a massive search involving hundreds of people and three aircraft.

Within hours of his disappearance, a large snowstorm moved into the region, dumping up to 15 centimetres on some areas.

He wasn't wearing a winter coat, hat or mittens.

The search was considered particularly difficult because Delorey could not speak, which meant he wasn't expected to respond to searchers' calls.

He had wandered away before, but he usually showed up not far from his home at a neighbour's house.

Great pictures Northern Rose, those are some very cold temps. After awhile you just get use to it. One winter I remember we had below zero temps for a straight month, even a pipe broke, and part of my front lawn had to be dug up and it fixed  ::MonkeyEek::

You never get used to going outside when it is so cold that your coat turns "crunchy" within minutes and you are doing the robot walk because it is frozen, or you have to remind your children to keep their lips closed as the moisture on their teeth will freeze fast and could crack the enamel.

We have been abnormally cold here, especially this early, our low over night was 9, and this morning on my way to work it was only like 13, so we have been crunchy and cold

I quit smoking April 30, 2008 and it is the best thing I ever did for myself.  I was one of those people who knew they could never quit.  I'd tried everything.  When it came down to it, it was more a matter of really wanting to.  The patches worked for me, my husband went cold turkey.

I used to use the excuse that the damage was done by now so why quit?  BUT, when you quit you get back so much more lung function it's amazing (for me anyway).  My quality of life is much better and I'm no longer chained to making sure I have a pack (or carton) with me at all times.  I smoked for nearly 40 years and the last 20 years I smoked 2+ packs a day.  I was not a casual smoker.  It's so nice not being addicted.   ::MonkeyAngel::

How long did you wear the patches? I have cut back at home because I go outside and it is freezing, that cuts it down to about three a night. Thanks Klaas, I may try the patches (after Christmas that is).  ::MonkeyAngel::

Klaas....I officially quite a year ago this past October...but will admit to having some puffs when I have gotten really stressed.....then I realize how bad it tastes and put it out. I used the patches too...I was never a heavy smoker...a pack to a pack and a half a week....but you are right about being able to breathe so much better. It was because of you I stopped.  But it was very difficult and I back slid several times....but each time I did I went back to the first level of patches and started again.

About 3 weeks on the 14mg.  I probably should have started with the 21mg which is stronger but the 14 worked ok.  Then I went on the 7mg for another 2 weeks.  When I was down to my last patch I didn't take off the old and just added a new.  I didn't take off the last patch for a couple of days, LOLOL.  Then I used about 1/4 of a piece of nicotine gum to get me past any rough spots...I'd say another couple weeks of that. 

Keep in mind we were going through having our house torn apart and my husband, I and our 2 dogs were basically living in a 12x10ft room during the day.  I'm surprised we didn't kill each other, LOL.

One more thing, I want to say hi to Fanny! I read that you were (http://i979.photobucket.com/albums/ae277/smileysonly/missing.gif) and wanted to say hello in case you're lurking! Hope everything is well with you.

I admire anyone that quits, I did quit for 7yrs...started dating a smoker and you can guess the rest of the story...I was so proud of myself when I quit, I worked at a bank and that was when smoking was banned and the bank sent the smokers to "Smoke Stoppers" if you succeeded in quitting the bank paid for it and if you did not quit the employee had to pay the cost, anyway I took that first drag along with a cool cocktail and handsome man and I was back with my addiction and a lying , cheating man. The story has a sad ending the man died from lung cancer and I still smoke...not a lot but one is to many! We should try to all quit after the new year,I bet we can do it together.

My employers would probably pay for us to quit, insurance won't. Sorry about the cheating lying man. I have known many in my life. We need a fingernail chewing monkey because that is what I will end up doing if I quit

my daughter that works for a vet thinks my dd(darlin dog) is allergic to ciggy smoke so I try to not smoke around him..plus when he see's me light up I get that look like.."I can not believe your doing that".. oh by the way JSM Joe will come to despise you getting on the lap top, Cowboy(dd) heads to bed when I get my lappy out or when he wants something he nudges my hand while I am typing. ::snowmanlaugh::

JSM, you will not believe the difference in your skin once you quit smoking. I look at least 5 years younger. I was shocked at the difference in mine in just a couple of weeks.

When you are a smoker you don't smell the odor, but once you quit for a while it really stinks. I had to take all of my clothes out of the closet and wash them over to get the stale odor out of them. They were clean but the ciggie odor was still on them.

Because the threads are allowed to go on beyond 50/100 plus pages.  Not to mention there are always more fluff comments is a chat room compared to a missing persons thread.

 

Your right about that I remember when I quit I felt so clean..and fresh..and since I started back I am thinking people can smell it on and think I am stinky. I am going to make a commitment to quit!!!I know I can do it!!! The thing that helped me the most was smoking a straw..think it was having that ciggy feeling between my fingers.

I'm behind No Rose, I just remember them on 20/20 or something like that. Never watched their show before

My Monkey...... the straws did the trick for me too. That and Extra Fruit Sensation gum. The gum kept me from wanting to eat every 10 minutes.

Joe kicked me off the couch last night. I am smoking outside now and it is a pain in the butt  ::MonkeyDevil::

also it takes about 7 min to smoke a ciggy..if you have a treadmill or some type of exercise equipment jump on it when that desire hits for 7 min.( note to self to do this when you quit) ::DancingSantaMonkey1::

Which is kinda sorta the reason I started a new thread. The speculation was heading down the wrong road...new thread, new topic. Also, someone asked me to start it. I did not know that we are supposed to wait to 200 or 300 or whatever. I thought we were allowed to start new threads.

Snow Tire/Fake Hair Update:

so, I did get snow tires today. Sam's told me it'd be a 4 hour wait, so I was all set with homework (for the class I hope is canceled tomorrow due to the storm I hope we get!) and errands to run. Also, to get my "lunatic fringe" hair halo trimmed.

Long story very short, they got my car done in 2 hours. I had time to run to my haircut lady, who very nicely and freely trimmed the bangs on this not-really-a-wig thing, and showed me how to put a scarf on it. So, from now on, I'll be saying "Arrrrr Matey!" a lot. Also got some Christmas shopping done. Now good sis is coming out, it'll be another long night of chasing her around.

I actually worked in a nursing home where when this big huge fat lady died, they had to take the window out to get her body out of the home!!! Her name was Stella. Imagine how I felt when my first granddaughter was named "Stella". That explains why I call her "Livvie" (her mom made her middle name "Olivia" because that's what I called the baby the whole time she (mom) was pregnant.

So, JSM, just don't change your name to "Stella" and you'll be good. And my Stella is really "Livvie", so she's good too!! ::snowmanlaugh::

Klaas, please forgive me for asking this question. But I have a question. Or for any other mods. If Jim Bob is not Dugga, then why could we not talk about a family that puts itself out in the media and limelight? Great, my name will be Stella once I quit smoking. Four story balcony, they will have to cut the carports down to get the forklift up to take my fat azz that has the springs from the sofa growing into my behind. Sad thing is I started smoking so I could lose weight. It worked, I went from 185 to 120 in a matter of months. I don't like exercise. It is boring, I can't run because of my knees. When I tried to quit before I would run with Josef three miles a day. Can't do that anymore or I will have to have knee replacements. I did pretty well, but it got cold and I quit running. Plus there was nothing better than running three miles, getting home and smoking a ciggy.  ::MonkeyDevil::

I don't even remember why I started smoking, but I do know I didn't start until I was in my late 20's  ::MonkeyEek:: Which is strange I suppose.

that made me think about the first beer I had I was 41 and of all things working at a golf course...(I think Tiger was still a baby Tiger then ) ::santawink::

I was 36 and started when I started the process of divorce, then it ramped up again after Eli was born and passed (which was 6 months ago today ), but I say after news yrs day we ALL try!!!!!!! After reading all the positive comments I'm willing.

I wanted to mention to you I have my wireless for my laptop thru Verizon, so I gave up my land line and use a cell number for my wireless which for my cell phone and a wireless card for my lappy it cost 129.00 per month.  ::hohohosanta::

I was in college and had the freshman 40 which turned to 60 pound gain. My friends told me if I smoked I would lose weight. I didn't smoke that much until I went to work in an office of all smoking women. Then I really started. Lost loads of weight. My skating coach told me before she went to the Olympics her coach put her on a diet of tea, toast and cigarettes, just so her brother could throw her higher in the air. I know LOADS of OLD skaters that smoke. Most of the Russians I have encountered that were skaters/now coaches smoke like chimneys. We are all outside on the porch of the rink, smoking at skate camp. That is where I made lots of friends because we had one thing in common. Not smoking but nicotine. Fabulous!  ::MonkeySkate::

I was a lot younger with my drinking, the drinking age was 18 and you could easily slip into a bar younger then 18. Plus one of my friends parents owned a bar, and she would help herself and us with free drinks  ::MonkeyEek::

And I have three packs of Commit lozengers ready to go, I bought them, and then didn't stop smoking. I just wish I didn't enjoy it so much.  Am thinking of you and your daughter and family  ::MonkeyAngel:: I know that Christmas will be hard, but I sure hope you can have an enjoyable Christmas.

JSM, that is hard to imagine smoking and skating. All the hard work of skating, and then being short of breath from smoking. But I guess the stress involved especially with competitions. I wonder if a lot of different sports if people smoke a lot also?

I don't have a problem with anyone talking about the Duggar family or Tiger Woods or Octomom or any other family that puts themselves in the limelight.  I do know that some people take issue with others trying to suggest that they have had too many children already, but everyone thinks differently on that.  When it comes to the number of children, as long as you can afford them and they are not abused, I don't see a problem with it.  Someone like Octomom does bother me though.

My problem was not with discussing the Duggar family it was in assuming that somehow Dugga was related to the Duggar family (which he is not).

Thats crazy...Cowboy loves kids also, when I pick up the grands from school I tell him we are going to school and does his what I call" yawn" talking, he gets so excited..I take him to Church sometimes on Sunday night and he goes in the 3 to 5 yr nursery the kids love him...there is a special needs child that is in a wheelchair and Cowboy sits beside him the whole time he is at Church nursery.btw I drive a truck also and Cowboy sits in his bed I keep for him in the truck and wears a seat belt. ::snowmanlaugh::

Good morning everyone!!

We have been really cold here too, no wind or rain or snow though, just flippin cold for here, its 10 right now

It's an "iffy" day. Can't decide if I'm better or not. BUT...we got about a foot of snow, all the schools in Northern Michigan are closed EXCEPT our local community college. Since my University is part of their program, my class won't be automatically canceled until the little school closes.

So I will do my homework today and do it nice and relaxed (translation:in my robe and gown, kneesocks and slippers) and plan on NOT driving to town tonight. Some of the others in my class have to drive over 100 miles...I think it's ridiculous to not just cancel the whole University Center now. This storm is supposed to get worse this afternoon and evening.

All that being said, there are some things I miss about driving during a storm. It used to be, before front-wheel and 4 wheel drive (auto), that it was a tradition that I would do a 360 at the "big" intersection (3 lane) on our way home from town. Every year, no matter how hard I tried to be going slow enough to stop, I'd always realize too late that I was going to either blow thru the light or hit someone. So, stand on the brakes! My boys loved it! We were all a little disappointed when we all drove Toyata Tercels...they had 4 wheel drive and made slip sliding a little more difficult. However, WE had to engage the 4 wheel, so sometimes, just for fun, we'd go out driving without it on and laugh our butts off! (Don't tell DH...we don't want him to know where youngest son's daredevil streak came from  ::snowmanlaugh:: )

8-10" cut off! kept the blonde highlights on top, added dark redish brown highlights and on bottom half died it all a dark dark brown, a tappered cut in back with lots of layers so the bottom color stick out a lil more, tappered layers around my face also...

On Thursday, PETA applied for a city permit that would allow display of the statue for three months, as a way to get out its point of view that the corporate restaurant chain KFC treats chickens inhumanely. We have warmed up.  It is only -20 right now with little wind.  Bad part is that now it has warmed up it is snowing again.  They say we are getting a cold snap over the weekend.  I hope it stays warm until Friday as both the kids schools are going skiing on Friday and it would be a shame if they cancelled it.

An Italian child allegedly kidnapped by his father when he was five years-old has resurfaced in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, after 22 years living under a different name. Alex Anfuso reappeared via the internet social networking site Facebook looking for his Italian relatives.

"My name is Alex. I am looking for my family. I am looking for my mother," wrote Alex Anfuso on Facebook, in a bid to find his relatives.

On 17 March 1987, the father of the then five year-old child Alex Anfuso reportedly asked a friend to kidnap his child from Guidonia, a town on the outskirts of Rome, and to bring him to Egypt, where the father lived.

At the time of the kidnapping, his mother, Silvana Anfuso was in Rome's Rebibbia prison jailed in relation to drug-related crimes.

Before going to jail, the child was left in the house of one of Silvana's friends, who also ended up in jail a short time later.

At that time, Anfuso was transferred to the brother of Silvana Anfuso's friend, who then took legal action in a bid to adopt the child. He disappeared a few days later when he was playing in the street outside.

"One day, a man comes and tells me: I am your father, someone will come and pick you up. Follow them," Alex - now called Ali Mohammed - told an Italian TV show on Monday.

Alex was picked up and driven away. He was given a new hairstyle and new clothes and taken to Cairo.

He then met a woman whom he calls 'Grandma' who took care of him and he began speaking Arabic. He later fell out with his father.

Alex - who does not have an Egyptian birth certificate or residency in Egypt - is now 28 years old.

Alex decided to search for his Italian relatives by searching on Facebook for anyone with the last name 'Anfuso'.

He sent a message to many people, including Pino Anfuso, a TV technician who works for state broadcaster RAI in the southern city of Reggio Calabria.

Although Pino Anfuso is not a relative of Alex, he decided to share the story with the popular TV show "Chi l'ha visto" or "Who has seen them?" and Alex went on air to tell his story.

According to inquiries conducted by the show, Alex's mother Silvana died before she could see him again.

 She poured  the  change out on the floor and counted it  carefully. Three  times, even. The total had to be  exactly perfect. No  chance here for mistakes.  
 
 Carefully placing the  coins back in the jar  and twisting on the cap,  she  slipped out the back door and made her  way  6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with the big red  Indian  Chief sign above the door.  
 
 She waited  patiently for the  pharmacist to give her some attention,  but he was  too busy at this moment.
 Tess   twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing..   She cleared her throat with the most disgusting   sound she could muster. No good Finally she took a   quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass   counter. That did it!
 
 'And  what do  you want?' the pharmacist asked in an  annoyed tone of  voice.. I'm talking to my brother  from Chicago whom I  haven't se en in ages,' he said  without waiting for a  reply to his  question.
 
 'Well, I want to   talk to you about my brother,' Tess answered back in   the same annoyed tone.. 'He's really, really sick   ... and I want to buy a miracle.'   
 
 'I beg your pardon?' said the   pharmacist.
 
 'His name is  Andrew and  he has something bad growing inside his  head and my  Daddy says only a miracle can save him  now. So how much  does a miracle cost?'

 The  pharmacist's brother was a well  dressed man He stooped  down and asked the little  girl, 'What kind of a miracle  does your brother  need?'
 
 'I don't know,'  Tess  replied with her eyes welling up. I just know he's   really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation...   But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my   money.'
 
 'How much do you  have?'  asked the man from Chicago
