In my humble opinion, Joran was attempting to cover his tracks - a weak attempt - but an attempt none the less. Everything Joran does is weak, and that's why he needed Paulus and Jan. And the IFA and Holland. On his own he is weak.

Thank God he didn't realize that a body could be placed in a suitcase and wheeled away - hence, missing. Missing yet probable cause to conclude death due to the forensics in the room. All the elements where there. Video. Entrance and exit.

"Don't bother my girl" - it's obvious. No need to explain that, it's apparent to all.

What's not apparent is the reason a lesbian would leave with him and actually end up in his room, and furthermore - how he persuaded Stephany to allow her guard down enough to think any stranger was safe.

The list of motives is long, afterall, we all KNOW Joran and his tendencies - so he could have used any of a hundred lures to get Stephany to enter his room.

I would not even discount - placing her winnings in a secure safe located in his room. This remains a mystery.

"If" Joran lost money to Stephany in a poker game, do you think it's possible that he told her his money was in his room and that's why she went to his room?

Doesn't make sense to me now that we hear that she had been talking about Joran van der Sloot about a month before (my understanding is that she had just found out about him on the interent...not that she had met him a month before).  In other words, "before" she met him she knew who JvdS was and so why didn't she just run away from him when she first met him in the casino? 

I do believe Joran drugged Stephany during the 37 minutes they sat in her car after leaving the casino and before going to Joran's room.

Puzzler,  I read 'somewhere' a couple of days ago that the cousin was talking to someone else, perhaps another cousin about VDS. It was not Stepany that he was discussing VDS with. He said he wasn't sure she even knew who he was.

Yes, I have no doubt Joran used hair bleach (peroxide or other) to lighten his hair and eyebrows.  It also looks like it was done some time after he murdered Stephany, maybe when he spent one night in a room in Chili (where he also left behind his stuff).

If they have found bloody clothing, then either the peroxide didn't work or his clothes or he simply didn't try.

I just wanted to stop in and congratulate the members of SM who've spent thousands of hours investigating Natalee's case, dissecting the evidence, keeping this case in the light, and treasuring Natalee's memory, and supporting her family.  Your belief in this murderer's guilt never failed, nor your rightful outrage toward the "authorities" in Aruba or the members of their press who participated in a blatent criminal cover-up.  There will be justice now for Stephany and for Natalee as well as all of the people who so tirelessy, and for so long, worked for it and prayed for it.  I am proud to have been associated with y'all.

It's not surprising he chose not to answer questions about the Flores murder.  He's been on the run and on the road for how many days now, I'll bet he has no clue about the evidence they have against him.  He was never confronted in Aruba with evidence against him because they made it disappear.  I guess he thinks its the same old, same old..deny deny deny.  Surely he isn't aware of the videotape they have of him and Steph together entering his room.  In his sick mind, he probably thinks he can still beat this charge. Ohhhh the arrogance >.<

Good point. He probably doesn't know there was surveilance in the hotel.
I betcha he's going to claim that this was some plot against him and there was someone else in the room who was trying to extort him... which is projection and a defense mechanism.

After a 24-hour journey, Dutch citizen Joran Van der Sloot, prime suspect of murdering Peruvian Stephany Flores (21) arrived in Lima, escorted by a large number of police officers and journalists.

Chilean authorities had handed him in to Peruvian authorities yesterday.

Van der Sloot is currently at the Crime Investigation Unit headquarters, where he will be questioned on the details of the murder.

Peruvian attorney Luis Lamas Puccio, a very well known specialist, told El Comercio that the murder of Flores can be determined as aggravated murder, a crime that is sanctioned by Peruvian laws with jail sentence, between 15 and 30 years, depending on the circumstances.

Due to the fact that this murder was particularly cruel (Peruvian police recommended the family not to see the battered body due to the severe trauma signs), and that it seems to have been a premeditated crime, he may get the maximum penalty, that is, 30 years of jail, since there is no death penalty in Peru.

Yes, we have also heard 25 years... even so, 30 years is not enough...IMO. BUT, considering the surroundings he will be housed in, he won't last 2 years, let alone 30...so justice will be done. If he somehow survives 30 years, he'll be set free when he is in his 50's, after living in those conditions for so long...he'll be more of a danger to society than ever before.

Action on the Drew Peterson case is not nearly as fruitful as this one.
Joran did what most criminals do, they eventually mess up and get caught.

Onward. I had a thought about Joran's coffee run. In several references to it, a time was given - 8:10, I think (but I have it saved somewhere). I *infer* such a precise time means it's from the camera stamp.

A reminder re. Joran's $$ - One of the reasons Chili gave for "expelling" Joran was lack of sufficient funds (no idea what is considered "sufficient" but it sounds like they knew how much money he had, including bank account).

Police will be able to figure out exactly how much he spent on travel after he left the hotel. Also whether he had any poker winnings - don't casinos keep up with that?
