TRACY, Calif. -- Police are asking the public for help finding a missing 8-year-old girl.

Sandra Cantu was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday in Tracy, police said. She was supposed to be at a friend's house at a mobile home park in Tracy but was not located there.

Cantu is 4 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is assisting in the investigation.

The Tracy Police Department has set up a mobile command post on West Clover Road as a helicopter searches the area for an 8-year-old girl who has been missing since Friday afternoon.

Sandra Cantu was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday, and the official search began at 8:15 p.m., police said. She was supposed to be at a friend's house in the Orchard Estates mobile home park, where she lives, but she wasn't found there.

Police have searched all night. The FBI, California Highway Patrol, San Joaquin Sheriff's Office, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, Tracy Volunteers in Police Services, Tracy Community Emergency Response Team, Tracy Fire Department and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are helping in the investigation.

Sandra is described as 4 feet tall and 85 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings.

Anyone with information that would be helpful in the investigation is asked to call the Tracy police at 831-4550 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.

Tracy Police Search for Missing 8-Year-Old Girl

TRACY, CA - Tracy Police Department officers were searching for an 8-year-old girl Saturday missing from her home in a Tracy mobile home park since Friday afternoon.

Sandra Cantu was last seen at the Orchard Estates mobile home park around 4:00 p.m. Friday.

After returning home from school, Sandra left to go to a friend's home inside the same mobile home park around 3 p.m., Tracy police Sgt. Tony Scheneman said. Scheneman said Sandra left the friend's home and was last seen outside her own home around 4 p.m.

Scheneman had no information about who saw the girl or whether family members saw Sandra after she came home from her friend's home. Sandra lives with her mother and grandparents.

The girl's mother called police around 8 p.m.

"We have no indication that an abduction has occurred and it is our hope that (TV) viewers will see Sandra and immediately notify the police department and get her on her way home," Scheneman said.

"It's definitely out of character for her to be gone this long," Sandra's uncle Joe Chavez said. "She always calls and checks in. She's not allowed to leave the mobile home park. She never goes out."

The FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were called in Saturday to assist in the search. After canvassing area parks and schools overnight, authorities were contacting all the park's residents Saturday to uncover more information, Scheneman said.

Sandra Cantu was described as 4 feet tall, 45 pounds with brown eyes and hair. She was last seen wearing a pink Hello Kitty t-shirt and black leggings.

"She's a very friendly girl and I just pray she's ok. If she's out there, we just want her to come home," Sandra's aunt Angie Chavez said.

An amber alert has not been initiated becuase, unfortunatley, this case has not met the criteria for an amber alert to be issued. There has to be a description of the suspect(s), and/or vehicle description. As more information is obtained an amber alert will assuredly be posted as the FBI are currently involved in the case. Tracy is a town that pulls together in difficult situations and protects our own, as evidenced yesterday by the crowds of people at various intersections of our Tracy streets lining the funeral procession of Sgt. Dunakin in support. We now have the duty to pull together once again. This time to help a mother whose grieving the loss of her 8 year old daughter. Anyone who is available to help in these, most urgent first few days, please come to the Command Center set up at the Micro Tell Hotel at Tracy Boulevard and Clover Road near Highway 205. Tracy is an earth of its own, every individual bringing something unique and special to us, a loss of one girl may not matter as much in a big city, but Tracy is a whole and we are united through it all.

Am I correct, there is her home in this mobile home park, and she actually lives in a different one?  

That I'm not sure about.  She was supposed to be at a friends house in the mobile home park but I got the impession the family home and friends home were both in the same park.

TRACY, Calif. -- Police are looking for a missing 8-year-old girl in the largest missing person search Tracy has seen in at least a decade.

The FBI has also been involved in the search which started at 8:15 p.m. Friday night, four hours after the little girl was last seen in the mobile home park where she lives.

Sandra Cantu, a second grader from Jacobsen Elementary, was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon after leaving her neighbor's house in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park.

“We saw her yesterday at our house,” said neighbor Nahum Diaz. “She was playing with my 5-year-old sister. Then she left, she told her she had to go do her homework, and I didn't see her anymore.”

Saturday, family and more than 50 volunteers walked door to door handing out fliers with the girl's picture while police searched nearby schools and parks. FBI agents also began stopping every car entering or leaving the complex and searching trunks. Police are concerned about the neighborhood's proximity to Interstate 580. It's less than half a mile from the freeway entrance.

“It's just a long time for an 8-year-old to be gone,” said Tracy Police Sgt. Tony Sheneman. “We're very concerned about that.

Sandra's cousin says the little girl lived with her mother and grandparents and that the father has never been in the child's life and may be living in Mexico.

“She's got a fiery personality,” said her cousin, Janet Anderson. “She is very -- and this is what scares me -- she's very friendly. She just loves everybody and is very trusting.”

Candice Vega says just two weeks ago she warned her little cousin about being safe.

“I told her, ‘Gosh, you're so pretty and cute and little’. I said, ‘you know you're not supposed to talk to strangers, right?’ She said ‘yeah’. I said, ‘because there's a lot of bad people who like to take pretty, little girls like you’. She said, ‘Do you know anyone who's been kidnapped?’ I said, ‘No, but I see it on TV all the time’."

She describes Sandra as a happy girl who was close with her family and wasnt the type to run off.

The family told KTVU about an incident at the mobile home park pool two years ago, when a middle aged male resident came up to the then 6-year-old and kissed her on the mouth.

Police say they've searched several homes in the mobile home park and have no persons of interest and no evidence of an abduction.

“She's an awesome sister,” said her sister Simone Chavez. “She's always happy. She's always doing carwheels. And I want her to come back home, you know?”

Sandra Cantu has light brown hair, brown eyes, is 4 feet tall and weighs 45 lbs. She was last seen wearing a Hello Kitty t-shirt, a striped dress and black leggings.

Police, FBI question drivers and check trunks of cars going in and out of mobile home park, in search of missing girl.

"We're turning over everything we can," Sgt. Tony Sheneman said during a 5 p.m. press conference. "We'll keep going until we find out she's safe."

Investigators set up a checkpoint late this afternoon on Clover Road near the entrance to Orchard Estates, where they stopped every car going in or out.

Eight--year-old Sandra, daughter of Maria Chavez and Danny Cantu, was last seen after she returned home from a friend's house, shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday.


Friends and family plan a "vigil of hope" at 8 p.m. today near the entrance to the mobile home park, 812 W Clover Road.

Sheneman said there are no indications that the girl has been harmed. Registered sexual offenders who live in the area have been interviewed, and surveillance cameras at the nearby hotels show nothing suspicious.

Danny Cantu, Sandra's father, is believed to be in Mexico, and Sheneman said he isn't considered a kidnapping suspect.

"The mother said he hasn't been involved in the family for a long time," he said.

There is no Amber Alert because she apparently never left the park. Again I say, Hser Moo all over again. She was found in the apartment of a family friend ALL UNREGISTERED on the lease and Illegal aliens. Point is, no way to track that information. And again, like other cases we know about, residents of that apartment were not home when it was canvassed, when they finally were, she was found deceased, within a few hours of her disappearance.

There are two seperate comments in the above article Klaas posted that are of major interest to me:

You have a cousin warning her that she is pretty and strangers will be attracted to her, etc.. (para)

You have an alleged incident of an elderly man kissing her on the mouth at the pool when she was six years old.

I commend Tracy LE for calling in the FBI immediately.

Those two comments just jumped out at me also, prayers that little Sandra comes home safe.

TRACY - A video camera mounted on Sandra Cantu's mobile home filmed the girl running down the street to play.

The 8-year-old girl hasn't been seen since.

She also wasn't seen leaving Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, whose entrance at 812 W. Clover Road also is monitored by security camera, said Sandra's cousin, Janet Anderson.

"It's going on 24 hours and it's getting really scary," Anderson said Saturday afternoon.

Sandra, a second-grader at Tracy's Jacobson School, went to play with some friends in the neighborhood sometime Friday afternoon. They weren't home, so she went skipping off somewhere else, but she wouldn't have wandered far on her own, said her uncle, Joe Chavez.

"She never goes out of the park," he said. "She's not allowed and she always obeys."

A few hours later, Sandra's family reported her missing to the Tracy Police Department, initiating a massive search effort that drew local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as well as volunteers from the community.

"It seems like everybody in town is just pouring out to help," Chavez said.

The Tracy Police Department set up a command post at a motel near the mobile home park. Volunteers, in green vests, clustered under a nearby shelter.

One of those volunteers was Rebecca Hullar, whose daughter was one of the last people to see Sandra before her disappearance. Hullar's daughter told her Sandra said she was going to run away, which she wanted to believe, but didn't.

"It made my hopes higher that she's out there," she said. "But no."

Particularly disturbing is the families recount of an incident that occurred at the swimming pool two years ago when Sandra was six. They stated that an elderly man, whom they did not name, walked up to Sandra at the pool and kissed the little girl on the mouth.

I gotta be honest. Maybe nothing, but my hinky meter that the last people to see her, and a comment that she was planning to run away, she goes home and leaves again.. You see where  I am going here. I wonder if the man connected to the pool incident is related to the Hullar's in any way. An 8 year old telling a 5 year old she is going to run away, she stayed briefly, did something happen at the house?

My questions:
1) Who has not answered their door or allowed LE to search their home in the park? Who was not home Fri and Sat but now is?
2) Who did LE find in those properties that are adults, SO's or did not produce ID?
3) Do the vehicles there match the registrants? Do the plates and VINS match?
4) Who has relatives that are SO's? Recent parollees, any recent crimes in the park?
5) Was the pool incident reported and checked out?
6) Was there anyone in Sandra's home when she returned from the neighbors and left again? I am going to assume not as she was not reported missing until 8PM. What's with that? That really bothers me that noone has contact with an 8 year old child since after school and it's 8 PM before they know she's missing?
7) Neighbors been questioned as to who has recently moved in or been evicted?
8) Confirmation that Sandra had homework
9) Have the older siblings (if there are) been questioned.
10) Any DCF history?
11) Has anything of hers been found in the area? Anything of hers missing from the home?
12) Who else was she known to play off or speak to.
13) Why was her family obviously concerned over her safety or "socialness"?

Thats my short list at the moment.  This is one of those cases I already hate- hate.

This case haunted me, again no report to police until much later, no amber alert until the second day, she was dead before they even knew she was missing. I pray that is not the case here, but I fear the answer is in that very park.

it is disturbing that there was no amber alert for this little girl! even if there was no auto description in this case...drivers  who might not read the papers or listen to the new would get the info through the amber alert...it is just another valuable tool to get the word out about a missing child......

Real good questions Blink, and I really don't see a 8 year old telling a 5 year old about running away from home, and if she did, why would an 8 year old be saying such a thing? And it bothers me very much that Sandra wasn't reported missing until hours later, I wonder when she gets home from school if there is nobody home, and they return later from work? I can't imagine letting someone that age come home after school and nobody is home, but that's me.

Searchers From 7 Counties Looking For Missing GirlTRACY, Calif. (CBS13) ― 

Volunteers from seven counties are now helping in the search for an 8-year-old Tracy girl who has been missing since Friday afternoon.  Although police continue to say there is no indication that Sandra Cantu was abducted, they are offering a reward for information leading to her safe return.   

Sandra has been missing since about 3 p.m. Friday, according to Tracy Police. She was playing at a friend's house at the Orchard Estates mobile home park located at 812 West Clover Rd. She was last seen returning home from her friend's.

This morning, Tracy police said there are now professionally trained searchers looking for Sandra.  They also say they are following several leads in the case.

Detectives say Sandra has never run away before, and always lets her mother know where she is going and when she will be coming home.  Police say Sandra's father is enroute to Tracy from Southern California.

Family Pleads For Missing Girl's Safe Return

TRACY - "If they see her, just call the police department because I want her home." A mother's desperate plea to find her missing daughter. At a candle light vigil outside her home Saturday night, a tearful Maria Chavez begged for 8 year old Sandra Cantu's safe return.

Cantu's grandmother, Dolores Chavez also pleaded with the public, "Would you please, please bring her home to us or take her to a police station or a church."

Tracy Police, the FBI and countless volunteers have launched an all out search. Flyers with Cantu's picture have been distributed throughout the city and posted on store fronts. Cars coming in and out of the Orchard Estates mobile home park where Cantu was last seen were stopped for questioning.

"She wouldn't go with a stranger unless she was forced into the car. She wouldn't leave the trailer park without being forced because she knows better than that," said Cantu's 15 year old brother, Thomas Fortin.

Police say Cantu went to play at a friend's house yesterday afternoon. She returned home, but disappeared a short time later.

"We're concerned for the welfare of the child. We're trying to find a little girl. We're turning over everything we can to find her and make sure she's safe," said Sgt. Tony Sheneman with the Tracy Police Department.

Hundreds of crews and volunteers fan out over the city to find 8-year-old Sandra Cantu.



Not only that, but 230 search-and-rescue professionals from 16 different agencies, on foot and on all-terrain vehicles, with 11 dogs and several equestrian teams, searched the rural area, businesses and neighborhoods from Interstate-205 all the way to 11th Street and Holly Drive to Corral Hollow Road.



By 5 p.m., they hadn't found a sign of the Jacobson Elementary School second-grader who disappeared Friday afternoon from her home on Clover Road, Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said.

But they weren't giving up.

"The ground search will be suspended at 7 p.m., but we can call them back on a moment's notice," Sheneman said.

Sandra, who lives in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park with her mother, Maria Chavez, two sisters and a brother, reportedly visited a friend who lives nearby after school Friday. She walked home and then went outside again sometime between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Friday.

Her family called police around 8 that night.

At first, there was some talk that Sandra's father, Danny Cantu, had taken her. However, he showed up over the weekend and was questioned by investigators. He was at the house today with the rest of Sandra's family.

"I asked him if he took her," Chavez said. "But he didn't. He's here."

Family spokeswoman Lisa Encarnacion said no one is giving up hope that Sandra will be found.

"Somebody knows something," she said. "We're hoping people will look for her and call with tips. It may be the tip that will lead us to her."

Tracy Crime Stoppers and the FBI have offered a $2,000 reward for information that leads to finding Sandra.

Both Sheneman and Encarnacion said the offers of help from the community have been overwhelming.

"We live in a really great place," Encarnacion said. "This is a community that embraces you."

Sheneman said the police department had so many volunteers, there weren't enough jobs to give them.

He suggests that people keep their eyes open in town and report anything suspicious.

"We want people looking around on their own," he said. "If they see anything out of the ordinary, we want them to call us, and we'll investigate."

Encarnacion said friends and community members have planned a prayer vigil at 8:30 tonight in the parking lot of the Microtel Inn, at 861 W. Clover Road, across from the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park. 

 

Me too, my heart sank.

I'm wondering how much supervision this child gets, reminds me of some neighbor kids that were unsupervised and running around early in the morning and late at night. After many complaints to the association by many people that is no longer going on. It sounds like she is a lonely little girl.

The family says how she was good about letting them know where she was and what time she would be home.....and they didn't call the cops until 8pm!!!  Is that what time she was supposed to be home?  If so, then why did she leave early???

it does sound like she is lonely and in need of attention..
My goodness, did no one miss this child at dinner time?  Is 8 pm the first that they noticed that she was not where she was supposed to be? Even if grand daughter is at a neighbors house, I still call or go over there to make sure that she is ok and still welcome to stay...we also call each other when one of the little ones are going home so that we can be outside to meet them...always in eyesight of the child....
8 is too young/little to be out roaming the streets at any time day or night...in my opinion of course...

Police said Sandra Cantu was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday in Tracy. She was supposed to be at a friend's house at a mobile home park in Tracy but was not located there.

Two-hundred trained law enforcement from eight counties including 13 people from FBI and a dive team, along with 100 volunteers, are involved in the search.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is also assisting in the investigation.

Law enforcement said "untrained" volunteers are being asked only to help pass out flyers so that potential evidence is protected.

I wish I had something uplifting to say, I do not. I was so pissed about her I emailed Leonard, as it is more local to him.
Not that I think he is altruistic, but his presence can facilitate chatter and movement.  I just hate this. How does this baby face these things in a normal enviornment. I am SO trying not to go there, but how can't I? My kids are older and I do not let them ride their bikes in our neighborhood without supervision, and LOL, I have checked out everyone here.

I know Blink....I feel the same way.  Good idea about emailing Padilla...I'm not a big fan of his but this needs more attention for sure.  I was reading on a few of the news sites and alot of people have emailed Nancy Grace so I'm hoping Sandra gets some air time on there.

Apparently the gpa installed surveillance camera in front of the home two weeks ago his tires were slashed, he surmised this was due to him finding stray cats on his property and taking them to the pound.

Parents questioned by detectives yesterday, Mom was too distraught the day prior.

Gotta say it, if it's true that the Mom was too distraught, that really bugs me. Can you imagine being too distraught to answer det questions to find your child? I can't. I hope to hear LE come out and clear the parents by today, so the focus can shift appropriately.

But, Tracy police, working with the FBI, are not calling it an abduction. They still say it is still a missing persons case.

"We're bumping up on two solid days. It's a very strong concern of anyone that someone would be missing for that long without any word. But, it doesn't change the fact that we're still working to facilitate her safe return," said Sgt. Tony Sheneman.

They are hoping the surveillance cameras recently installed outside the Cantu's mobile home might provide a clue. The FBI is studying the video which police say captured Sandra Friday evening in front of her house as she was walking away from the park's front entrance.

So it is fair to assume that since all the mobile homes have been searched, that Sandra was taken out of the park in a car or truck. Could someone in the park who had one of his or her cats taken to the pound by the grp, been involved, because of revenge?

I cant see someone taking a child over a cat. There are alot of witnesses saying she basically wandered the place and spoke openly and in a friendly way to a few elderly gentlemen. The family themselves state that some old dude kissed her at the pool.
Does the pool allow memberships outside of the park? Does it serve the 2 parks around there that have SO's?

Witness, who happens to be an elderly gentlemen, says he saw strange guy in park ( I ran his name down if its real he is not a SO) a few minutes before she went missing. LE has not released a description of anyone, so was he credible?

I cannot see this being a stranger abduction in broad daylight without anyone seeing or hearing a thing.

I want to know who was home at 4PM and then went out by 8PM, possibly overnight.

Typically, they would match a relative to someone in the park first before just loosely going through SO's when this guy could not be tied to the area. Im thinking he is a relative of or knows someone in the park.

TRACY, Calif. (AP) - The FBI is joining the search for a young Tracy girl who hasn't been seen since Friday night.

Authorities say FBI agents, Tracy police and officers from about a dozen law enforcement agencies are looking for eight-year-old Sandra Cantu.

Sandra hasn't been seen since around 4:00 Friday afternoon when a surveillance video camera recorded her walking away from her family's mobile home. Her mother reported her missing about 8:00 that night.

Throughout the day yesterday police searched homes in the mobile home park, while volunteers went door-to-door with fliers.

A police spokesman says investigators did question one man in the park, though they say there is no indication of foul play.

A reward of $2,000 is being offered by the FBI and Tracy Crime Stoppers for information concerning Sandra's whereabouts.

Is it me or does anyone else think its strange that they would even mention this guy if this was a *dead end* lead????

I have his name, it was Pat Anistasio. Odd thing is, Pat does not live there, but a Mike Anastasio does. Not sure if he was visiting that he would be able to ID a strange guy from a resident. I checked both out though, clean.

If this guy is a POI LE needs get his face out there pronto (Villalobos).

Abducting Pedos do not go into a strange neighborhood and yank a kid, they just don't. Not without leaving a witness or some sort of evidence. This imo, would be an aquaintance offender.

I'm aware of what is around me, none around my neighborhood, but way up the hill by the grade school there are some  ::MonkeyEek:: I'm a nosy person, not because I have nothing better to do, but my kids are grown, and I do keep an eye out when the kids around here are out playing. I also notice when I walk the dog, if there is a person walking around that doesn't belong. There are some families in my neighborhood, that have better things to do then watch their kids  ::MonkeyNoNo:: and so I just kind of am aware of what's going on. I am very concerned with little Sandra, did she not have a babysitter or anyone to watch her? Her brother is 15 does anyone no how old the other siblings are? Again I believe someone saw something.

I just believe 100% whatever happened happened in that park. I wish I lived close to there right now, she is either still there or she was out between 4ish and 8PM. Theoretically, if they were looking for her around dinner time as they stated, meaning going door to door or whatever, that would tighten the window.

I did not hear back from LP, maybe he will surprise us and show up. I'll take anybody down there dressin these folks down for answers!!

For the Sgt to publicly say he thinks she is alive, but not the victim of a kidnapping as there is no evidence of that, imo, is dangerous. For one thing, if your clearing the family, than the possibility of a stranger abduction is next and therefore she would be *endangered*, that assumption has to be made on LE part as they cant exclude it.  Add to that (if true) that all the homes were searched, so.... she is not in the complex, again, she cant drive so she would have had to have been transported by a stranger.. er go.. Amber Alert!!

If the family is saying she was kidnapped even though LE won't, and we already know FBI is there and involved so I would make the assumption they have been polly'd, we now have an absconded SO on the Tracy PD most wanted list with ties to the area, again, what does LE know or think that is preventing an amber alert?

A private foundation has put up $5,000 for information that leads to the return of a Jacobson Elementary School second-grader who been missing since Friday.

A nonprofit foundation will give $5,000 for information leading to the return of an 8-year-old Tracy girl who’s been missing since Friday afternoon.

Sandra Cantu, a Jacobson Elementary School second-grader, was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday after she left her family’s home in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park on West Clover Road. She said she was going to visit a friend’s house, and hasn’t been seen since.

Last weekend, hundreds of volunteers and several law enforcement agencies combed four square miles of Tracy in search of Sandra.

The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation offers rewards in cases like Sandra’s. The organization has offered $272,600 since 1999, which foundation spokesman Scott Webb said has helped locate nine missing people, 37 murder suspects, three kidnappers and one suspect charged with attempted murder of a peace officer.
 
The foundation was formed in honor of Carole and Julie Sund and Silvina Pelosso — three sightseers who went missing and were later found killed in Yosemite National Park 10 years ago.

While they were missing, the Sunds’ parents, Francis and Carole Carrington, posted rewards for information leading to their daughters’ safe return. The family believes that posting the rewards and the media attention they received helped police and the FBI find the missing women and helped them solve the case.

Tracy Crimestoppers and the FBI have also offered a $2,000 reward for information about the girl's whereabouts. The phone number for Crimestoppers is 831-6847.

Police will hold a press conference about the reward money at 1 p.m. today outside the Tracy Police Department, 1000 Civic Center Plaza.

I really got the opinion that LE thinks she ran away, but the family says no way. What plans does an 8 year old make to run away and vanish without it being some endangered situation? I dunno.

I can't imagine an 8 year old running away, maybe for a couple hours, and maybe real close to home, even hiding in the house or yard, until they get bored, or hungry and then that's it. Or, and I hate going here, something was going on in the home, and she felt running away was her only choice. This running away does not sit well with me.

ITA.  i find it hard to believe that LE would even consider this from an 8 year old girl.  however, it does seem that she may have been more mature than most 8 year olds but still.

Yes Leroy, I have to believe she is. I can cite 3 other cases where it all looked like this at first and all went really bad really quickly; lets hope we are wrong.

As far as going to all the homes, I may be wrong, but if LE comes knocking to look inside, and you don't want them in your home for whatever reason you don't have to let them, right? They can get a search warrant, but they have to have a very good reason for that, maybe that is enough, that a child is missing, I don't know.

Absolutely. You cant get a warrant with no amber alert or evidence of a crime, that being said, I just dont see how they had enough man power to search every house in 2 days in the first place. I want to hear that statement clarified.

they have video from surveillance camera of Sandra leaving her house after school..
the police have questioned the gentleman in question who apparently kissed her...no one has been cleared at this time...they do not suspect foul play...

it will be repeated on the 5:00 HLN  .....for me at least HLN comes on at 4 and again at 5...usually the same stories...I usually watch it twice anyways in case I miss something...

I don't know if they have been through every house in that park yet or not, but they are definitely still there.  There were at least 6 or 7 cop cars in that entrance.  I didn't go in, so I don't know if there were more inside the park or not.  At this time, there is no volunteer search going on.  I tried from 10 a.m. this morning on.  I finally came home.

There is something to be said for Cindy Anthony getting as much air time as she did.  It doesn't seem to me that little Sandra is getting near as much attention.  Of course, I guess if they had waited 30 days to report her missing, that would make it more newsworthy!

Thank-you for reporting this, so no volunteer search going on. I still feel little Sandra is inside the park. It's awful in my opinion how the media cherry picks what story they are going to cover, not newsworthy enough, it makes a person sick.

I saw an officer on the side of the road checking out an abandoned bicycle on the sidewalk.  I stopped and talked to him because the dispatch really wasn't too helpful.  He pointed me in the right direction, and I tried to get any small tidbit, and he said they don't have anything!

Also, I have friends in LE closeby with some connections.  NOTHING!!  It's so frustrating!

when you all are mentioning 'park' , do you mean as in the trailer park or do you mean an actual park?

From seeing the video of the father, there were a couple of LE cars on the video.  When I was there, there were definitely more.  I saw one with a rifle of some sort.   He was in between 2 cars, so I don't have any clue what it was about.   CNN had a truck there, KRON4 and then one other, I think channel 5.

The mobile home park.  If you google map Orchard and Clover in Tracy, you will get a good visual of the area.  You can see how close to the interstate it is.  Also, that end of Clover, it is not a through street.  So you are either going to the Orchard Estates, the motel across the street, or some houses down at the end of the road.    But when you are on Tracy Blvd. before turning on Clover, there are a LOT of commercial things.  Shopping areas, fast food restaurants, gas stations.  There are a few apartment areas on Tracy Blvd there too.

I kind of felt like the shopping area was fairly close, like walking distance.  If she had older siblings, cousins, friends, etc, I can see that being somewhere they might walk to.  I am hoping they are checking surveillance cameras in those areas.  If she had walked there once, it wouldn't be a scary thing for her to do on her own, in my opinion.  If that's the case, it opens up way too many possibilities.

I wondered what the age of Sandra's sister was, so she is ten, and she has a brother that is 15, and I think she has one more sister, but don't know the age. Yes, this morning I was having trouble with posting, but I haven't for awhile now.  ::MonkeyConfused::

I don't know why they are saying what they are saying and why they aren't expanding beyond the mobile home park.  I did see lots of fliers in windows, but wonder what all has been searched.  The LE presence was HEAVY in that park.  I don't believe an 8 year old has the willpower to hide out for that many days to "run away."  She couldn't elude LE that long either, especially with FBI there.  My LE buddies would let me know if they knew anything.  They do have some access to info in that area.  So I really think she got picked up and put into a car. 

Something that is VERY sickening is, while I was on my way there, I noticed field upon field upon field.  If they have to scour that, it won't be an easy task.  In the winter here is when it rains.  That's when everything grows and is green.  Another thing though, some fields have already been plowed.  So would a shallow grave be visible? 

I think I remember someone saying that a decaying body produced heat though too.  So would the helicopter pick that up?

A man who lived in a trailer behind the one in which Sandra Cantu lives has been questioned three times by police, but he's no more a suspect now than anyone else, investigators say.


Police have questioned a martial arts instructor three times about his alleged sexual interaction two years ago with an 8-year-old Tracy girl missing since Friday.

Police and the family have confirmed that the man — whose name and age police, family and neighbors withheld — had reportedly kissed Sandra Cantu on the lips while she was swimming in the mobile home park’s pool two years ago. Sandra's 15-year-old brother Thomas Fortin suggested he might be in his 40s or 50s.


The man lives behind the home of Sandra, who was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday before the family reported her missing. More than 73 hours have passed since then.

No one answered the door today at the man’s trailer, and neighbors declined to disclose his name. He is not a registered sex offender, according to the California Department of Justice. In fact, the department lists that no registered sex offenders live in the mobile home park. Police already interviewed all the area’s registrants.

Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said police have questioned the middle-aged man along with everyone else in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, where the little girl lives with her mother and grandparents. Sheneman said police have come up with no suspects so far and still no evidence that the Jacobson Elementary School second-grader was kidnapped.

“It’s still a missing person’s case,” Sheneman said at an afternoon press conference. “There is no evidence that it’s an abduction.”

Sandra’s mother Maria Chavez talked at length to investigators again today, and begged the public via national and local TV newscasts to help her find her daughter. For the most part, the family has sheltered themselves inside their home from the media frenzy today, stepping out for a couple interviews later in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the entire mobile home park has turned into a crime scene. Armed detectives wander the narrow streets and talk to everyone who enters the park. Tracy police stood guard at the park entrance and searched the cars of anyone who drove through.

Still, federal, state, county and city investigators have yet to turn up any clues leading to the girl’s whereabouts. Police did say today that they got about 150 tips, some of them credible, and that they have yet to go through all the surveillance tapes from nearby businesses, including a motel across the street from the mobile home park’s only entrance.

A volunteer search and rescue worker on Sunday found a bottle of hair dye, which she told police about. Police said they don’t know yet if that means anything.

Police said they’re confident that Sandra’s alive because they have no reason yet to believe otherwise. Searchers continued their hunt in the city’s southern side, between 11th Street and Interstate-580 today, but by this evening had learned nothing new about Sandra’s disappearance, Sheneman said.

A search of the four square miles around Sandra’s home turned up nothing by the third day of her disappearance, police said.

Sheneman said investigators worry about the mobile home park’s proximity to Interstate 205, because if someone picked up Sandra they could have taken her anywhere.

Still, Tracy police said the search extends no farther than Tracy’s rural edge. But police from other cities have joined to help, including some from Livermore and Modesto.

That brings the count up to 18 agencies that have helped in the search, including the FBI.
Local police said they can keep up the search and still juggle daily patrols because the department has gotten so much help from outside investigators.

“It’s an 8-year-old girl who’s been missing for three days,” Sheneman said. “That’s an exceptional case … we’re not going to wind down.”

Hundreds of volunteers have helped out, too, though many of them who joined the search during the weekend had to go back to work today.

Evidence of volunteer work outside the search can be seen around town, though.

Hundreds of missing-person posters are plastered around Tracy, on car windows, businesses, utility poles and at schools. A couple print shops in town have donated free color posters for volunteers to post today. The new posters show a more recent photo of Sandra with lighter brown hair.

Police at an informational meeting tonight pleaded with the public to share tips that could lead to the return of an 8-year-old girl missing since Friday afternoon.

More than 250 parents, students and reporters crowded the multipurpose room at Jacobson Elementary School to find some answers about what happened to Sandra Cantu, who attends the North Tracy school. Some asked police what they could do to help find her.

Police had little to tell the public, except that they still need help posting missing-person fliers, making colored copies of them and encouraging tipsters to give them a lead in an investigation that so far has come up dry.

Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman — the department’s spokesman — recapped what’s been done so far to search for the missing girl. He assured the public that the department and nearly 20 other state, federal and local agencies have 100 people working around the clock in the search. He said if they come across any leads, there are more teams — volunteer and professional — ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

In the meantime, he asked people to tell police about anything out of the ordinary, whether it’s that someone changed their appearance or hasn’t been seen for a few days when they’re normally seen all the time.

“They may seem insignificant when looked at individually, but there could be some common thread,” he said. “We are depending on information from the community.”
Police also urged parents to talk to their kids to find out if they knew Sandra or had talked to her recently. If so, he said investigators would like to interview them.

Investigators have already watched all the surveillance footage from a camera placed outside Sandra’s home as well as footage from cameras outside local businesses, including two nearby hotels. Nothing suspicious showed up, police told the public.

Sandra Cantu was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday outside Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park.
Earlier, family members said she probably was abducted.

Meanwhile, the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the return of the girl.
Volunteers continued their search Monday, while authorities were scouring surveillance video that recorded the girl playing in the mobile home community, located a short distance from the intersection of North Tracy Boulevard and Interstate 205.
"We are still very hopeful that she will be returned safely to us," said family representative Lisa Encarnacion, adding early Monday that it is "exhausting" for relatives to wait through the ordeal.
Encarnacion said relatives insist the girl was taken from the mobile home park and did not run away.
"They think that she has just been abducted," Encarnacion said. "And I know that the law enforcement is reluctant to say that at this moment because there is no concrete evidence to back that up."
However, officials said investigation is still a missing persons case and is not being considered abduction.
"She never mentioned anything to say that she was going to run away or she hates it there or nothing," mother Maria Chavez said. "She always told me she loved me."
Police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said he does not think the girl's family was involved in her disappearance, and that he believes she is alive.
Officials said a surveillance video caught Cantu's going back and forth, and that the images are being used in the investigation.
However, the video is classified as evidence, Sheneman said, and won't be released for now.
Investigators said the girl was at a friend's house that afternoon.
Police investigated a man who reportedly kissed the then 6-year-old on the mouth at the park's pool. Sheneman said officials talked to that man, but nothing came of it.
"It was an incident that occurred two years ago that was never reported to the police," Sheneman said. "We have interviewed him and in all likelihood interview him again and continue to talk to him about some other issues."
At a candlelight vigil Sunday night, Sandra Cantu's father, Daniel Cantu, pleaded for her safe return.
"Please, bring her home," he said. "I love you, honey. Please come home soon."
Hundreds of law enforcement officers from eight counties, as well as the FBI and a dive team, have been involved in the search. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is also assisting in the investigation.
Sandra Cantu is 4 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings.
Anyone with information should call the Tracy Police Department at 209-831-4550. Sheneman said anyone wishing to volunteer in the search or donate money for the reward fund may call police.

TRACY, Calif. -- Late Monday, Tracey police confirmed that a search of mobile homes at the park eight-year-old Sandra Cantu disappeared from last Friday has turned up evidence, but the child has still not been located.

Police also searched a home in the Central Valley town of Oakdale. Investigators say they obtained search warrants based on info obtained thru interviews with residents. So far, no one's been taken into custody.

Officers continue to search the trunk of each vehicle leaving the mobile home park.

Earlier Monday evening, three unmarked FBI vans and a tow truck arrived at the park. A neighbor tells KTVU he saw federal agents removing evidence from another neighbor's house and that the tow truck was preparing to remove that neighbor's vehicle.

The girl was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon outside her home at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park near Interstate 205. Police say a surveillance camera recently installed by her family captured an image of the second grader as she was seen leaving her mobile home.

Family and friends of the missing girl are holding onto the belief that she will be found safe and sound. This is the third night they've held a candlelight vigil to keep hope alive.

Dozens of people gathered for the vigil just inside the front gates of the mobile home park where Sandra Cantu lives. The eight-year-old had just celebrated her birthday two weeks ago.

Monday afternoon, her mother Maria Chavez made a tearful plea for her daughter's safe return.

"Whoever took her, please bring her back home," said Chavez. "I miss her so much. I love her. I want her to know I love her. We're looking for her. We're doing the best we can to find her."

Monday evening, police met with hundreds of concerned parents at Jacobson Elementary School where Sandra Cantu is a student.

"We are depending on information from the community," said Tracy Police Sgt Tony Sheneman.

One parent, whose daughter is friends with Sandra and lives near the missing girl, told police she saw a suspicious black Jeep Cherokee in the neighborhood around the time Sandra disappeared.

Local resident Kim Bravo was visibly shaken.

"It just worries me. We're kind of new out here and it hurts as a mother. It really does," explained Bravo

Bravo's daughter Aliah Peralta describes Sandra as being friendly and kind to everyone.

"She'd talk to anyone. She just came up to me when I met her and asked me what my name was," said Peralta.

Police and the FBI say they've received more than 150 tips, including some credible leads.

Investigators have interviewed registered sex offenders in the area and plan to re-interview a man living in the park who kissed Sandra on the mouth at the community pool two years ago

Police re-searched the 100 mobile homes in the neighborhood, but still say they have no person of interest or evidence that Sandra has been harmed.

" just hope they find her. It's been a long time It was really cold last night, and if someone has her, just let her go," said neighbor Anthony Camarena.

Police are reviewing hours of surveillance video from nearby businesses and have searched foreclosed homes and businesses in the area.

On Monday, the reward for anyone who provides information that help police to find Cantu went up to $7,000.

I am shocked and so saddened by this story.  I lived in Tracy for 22 years, so it really hits home.  The freeway is so close to that location, if she was abducted and driven away in a car, no telling where she could be.  There are alot of fields in that location, and many roads that are easily hidden from view and not traveled often.  Especially at night.  I have a gut feeling she is not far from her home.  Alot of places and roads to be taken and hidden from view.  Please pray for this little girl. 

There were two boys that were from Tracy, found dead in Castro Valley (I think) and the murderer(s) have never been caught.  I never could fathom how a family could go through something like that and not lose their mind.  I still think of them.

So sorry, I saw that the thread was started later tonight....first I want to say I will continue to pray for this child & her family.   I have to catch up on what has been released thus far, I've only skimmed posts but my gut tells me this is a pedofile abduction, seems like someone could have been watching her or that neighborhood to know there was a definite window of opportunity...I pray I'm wrong.   I'll catch up more thoroughly tomorrow.

 Police searched six locations in and around the mobile home park where an 8-year-old Tracy girl vanished, investigators revealed late Monday.
The search warrants were served on property and vehicles associated with two men, who were interviewed by police in connection with the disappearance of Sandra Cantu, who failed to return to her home at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park on West Clover Road on Friday, said Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman.

"They are persons of interest," Sheneman said. "Information was gathered from leads generated from the community and information gathered in interviews with the two people. We were searching for information that would lead to the whereabouts of Sandra."

Four of the search warrants were served inside the mobile home park, and the others were served in Tracy and Oakdale (Stanislaus County), Sheneman said. All items collected during the searches were taken to an FBI laboratory in Sacramento for analysis, he said.

Sheneman did not disclose what relationship, if any, the two men had with the Cantu family or why they attracted attention, but he said investigators also were focusing on associated vehicles.

"The two men are not related to each other, and they do not live together," he said.

The men were not arrested and were not named as suspects.

TRACY, Calif. -- Police are focusing their search for a missing 8-year-old Tracy girl on two men who live in the mobile park where she resides, authorities said.

Sandra Cantu was last seen Friday afternoon walking in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, located just off West Clover Road.

Authorities have also searched five properties in Tracy -- including four mobile homes in the park -- as well as a location in Oakdale. A reward for information leading to her return has grown to $7,000.

"They're looking for evidence that would lead to the discovery of Sandra's whereabouts," Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said. "Evidence has been collected, and I cannot list it until the warrant has been returned to the judge."

A representative of the girl's family said Monday that they believe she was abducted.

"I want her to know that I love her," added her mother, Maria Chavez. "I went looking for her. We're doing the best we can to find her."

Police said little about the two men they have been interviewing, other than that they live in separate mobile homes in the park and are not related.

Police have also searched rooms at the Microtel Inn and Suites, located directly across the street from the mobile home park, which has about 100 homes.

The FBI is looking at the hotel's guest list and surveillance video from the property.

Cantu was also seen on surveillance video recorded in the mobile home park. She was last seen walking from her home to a friend's home within the park.

Cantu is 4 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings.

I try very hard not to be critical of LE, but if this is going the way we think, that makes all of us right all along, and Sgt. Shenemen should explain his comments from yesterday. They do not get those kinds of warrants and vehicle impounds without physical evidence, they just do not.

I won't be either. I know if one of my girls would have had something like that happen, I sure would have went to the police. And I know me, we would have moved also, no doubt about it. TRACY - After three full days of searching for 8-year-old Sandra Cantu and few clues, Tracy investigators reported their first major developments in the mysterious case late Monday:

Police reviewed surveillance video from businesses that surround the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park. Detectives scanned a list of hundreds of guests at nearby motels.

The more than 90 mobile homes in the park were searched at least twice, police said. Family members and park residents also were questioned, Sheneman said.

That includes one adult resident who allegedly kissed Sandra on the lips two years ago at the trailer park's pool, Sheneman said. That man, who was about 60 at the time, is being questioned and had not been named a suspect earlier in the day


When Sandra arrived home - around 4 p.m., according to a surveillance camera attached to her house - she talked about going to church and a movie with her two older sisters, her grandfather said.

When the girls realized they didn't have enough money to go to a movie, Sandra left again to play, Chavez said.

The video camera recorded her exit from the house. It was the last time Sandra was seen.

KRON 4 just had a good bit about it on the news.  Mom pleading for her return.  It showed the Microtel across the street and there were semi trucks parked in the lot.  They said they are going over surveillance cameras to see if she got in any trucks.  There was just a press conference, and they said they would be back at 10:30 with more.

The girls played on a wooden swing tied to a tree in front of the house. They sat on the stoop and scribbled with crayons. They went inside and watched some of the movie "Flubber."

Then Kassandra told her mother, Maria Diaz, that Sandra had to go home to do homework, the 36-year-old mother told The Record.

When Sandra arrived home - around 4 p.m., according to a surveillance camera attached to her house - she talked about going to church and a movie with her two older sisters, her grandfather said.

When the girls realized they didn't have enough money to go to a movie, Sandra left again to play, Chavez said.

The video camera recorded her exit from the house. It was the last time Sandra was seen.

You would think they are on to something.. When they took off to raid a house in Tracy and then off to Oakdale which is about 60 miles away I was sure they had something..
But so far LE denies anything .. Just searching and interviewing people of interest.

It feels like they are close to finding out what has happened, at least I hope so.

Four of the search warrants were served inside the mobile home park, and the others were served in Tracy and Oakdale (Stanislaus County), Sheneman said. All items collected during the searches were taken to an FBI laboratory in Sacramento for analysis, he said.

can someone do a search on the license plates and get their names? they wouldn't tow cars away unless they had some idea that the vehicle was involved somehow or the owner of the vehicle?

Over the course of the weekend, dogs, equestrian teams, ATVs and a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol were brought in to search for Sandra in the town of 81,000 residents 70 miles south of Sacramento.

"Every dog team we could find was brought in," Sheneman said.

Divers were also brought in to search a river, miles from her home, but found nothing, he said.

In addition to local police and the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has a team of retired law enforcement professionals, part of a program called "Team Adam," in Tracy helping both law enforcement and Sandra's family.

"The good news is, while few people believe it, most come home safely," the center's president, Ernie Allen, said of the 58,000 children who are reported missing annually.

There are new developments in the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl in Tracy. Police are questioning two men and searching six different sites, including locations outside the girl's neighborhood.

Sandra Cantu was last seen late Friday afternoon in the mobile home park where she lives. Tracy Police say they're questioning two men who live in the Orchard Estates mobile home park.

A caravan of crime scene trucks and a flatbed tow truck entered the mobile home park around 8 p.m. Monday night. Tracy Police say they obtained search warrants for six locations including four mobile homes in the park, one undisclosed location in Tracy, and another in Oakdale. Police say the two men being questioned have lived in the park for several years and their names were mentioned among the more than 250 tips police received.

"We're looking for evidence that would lead to the discovery of Sandra's whereabouts. Evidence has been collected. I cannot list it until the warrant has been returned to the judge and then it will be up to the judge if we can release the information that's contained in the warrant and all of the items are returned," said Sgt. Tony Sheneman, from the Tracy Police Department.

The family of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu did not attend Monday night's vigil, which took place just about 50 yards from where investigators were combing the four homes. Earlier Monday, Sandra's mother told a national cable news show, that police came to the house and asked for Sandra's belongings. They took her chap stick, a brush, a toothbrush, and pillow cases.

Also on Monday night, at Jacobsen Elementary, where Sandra is a second grader, parents asked police questions. Many of them came to pick their children up from school instead of allowing them to ride the bus home.

Again, Tracy Police have issued search warrants to six locations including four homes in the park and they're questioning two men who live here, but still, no sign of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu.
There is a $7,000 reward to find the girl, but police still aren't calling this case an abduction.

A man was arrested, cited and released Monday on suspicion of interfering with police as officers searched for clues about Sandra Cantu, the 8-year-old Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park resident that disappeared Friday.

Orchard Estates resident Christian Sinclair, 49, was taken to the Tracy police department, arrested, fingerprinted, photographed, cited and released on the misdemeanor charge, said Sgt. Tony Sheneman, police spokesman.

 
Sheneman said Sinclair verbally badgered agents and officers as they searched a mobile home, Sheneman said. His arrest is “unrelated to the investigation” of the girl’s disappearance, the spokesman said.

Police searched four mobile homes in the park, a building in Tracy and another in Oakdale, police announced. What they found remains undisclosed, and the FBI is analyzing evidence, Sheneman said.

Sheneman would not say whether Sinclair is one of two “persons of interest” police have identified as the investigation into Sandra’s disappearance intensifies.

Wayne Wallace has lived in the mobile home park for 25 years and says the disappearance of Sandra Cantu is taking a toll on residents. He told ABC 7 everyone seems to be scared.
"We had a vigil here last night with everybody trying to calm everybody down, but yeah they're nervous," he said.
With all the drama unfolding at the mobile home park, Sandra Cantu's family continues living in shock. Sandra's mother, grandmother and siblings can only wait and plead for her return.

"Whoever has her, just let her go. She needs to come home to her mom who loves her very much, misses her," said her mother Maria Chavez.

Tracy police say the investigation will go wherever the evidence seized Monday night takes it. The FBI was busy analyzing that evidence Tuesday morning.

he is 49 years old and i couldn't find any arrest records on him.

the latest aticle says he WAS one of the two POI's but still say his arrest was *unrelated* to Sandra's diappearance.....again, why tow his vehicles if it was not related.

In aftermath of an FBI and police mobile home and business search Monday, a martial arts instructor said today he was trying to be nice when he kissed Sandra Cantu two years ago.

Tracy martial arts instructor who had his home and business searched Monday night said today that he was “just trying to be nice” when he kissed the missing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu on the lips two years ago.

Frank Wohler, 60, who runs the Delta Kajukenbo School of Self-Defense, had his office at 4220 Commercial Drive searched by at least four people at about 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

Tracy police and FBI agents were at Wohler’s home in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park when he arrived home Monday evening, staying until about midnight, he said.

Wohler said they took CDs containing pictures and his cell phone from his office and several items from his home that he declined to identify.

“The FBI can do what they want, when they want, because they’ve got all the means,” Wohler said.

He said he knew Sandra and that the girl would come over to his yard occasionally, asking if he needed help with small jobs around the garden.

When asked after Wohler finished teaching a martial arts class today about a report that he kissed Sandra at the mobile swimming pool two years ago, he said, “Yeah, it was me. We were in the pool, and I was just trying to be nice.”

Then he added, “I don’t think I should talk to you anymore.”


Sandra Cantu, 8. Wohler’s martial arts school has been a fixture in Tracy for years, having started in 1992 on an 11th Street storefront, he said, before he moved to a space on Commercial Drive in 2005. He got his business license in 1998, records show.

In 2005, Delta Kajukenbo won a third-place “Best of Tracy” award in the martial arts school category voted on by Tracy Press readers. The school pulled in a second place award in 2006, a first-place award in 2007 and third place last year.

The school has classes for martial arts students of all ages, Monday through Friday.

FBI agents and police have interviewed parents of Wolher’s students in recent days, said one parent who asked not to be identified. Several have asked if they should take their children out of the school, the parents said.

Larry Rubio, who earned his black belt under Wohler last year, said he’s surprised at the news that Wohler has been questioned.

“I know this is all allegation, but I’m definitely shocked,” he said. “It’s just been a shock to me and my family.”

Police have said there are two “persons of interest” in the case, though they divulge no names. Sgt. Tony Sheneman would not identify Wohler as a one of the two “persons of interest.”

Besides Wohler’s home, three others were searched in the mobile home park Monday evening, and a house in Oakdale was searched as well.

that is my understanding as well.

We would have to know how many actual warrants were issued and if they were primary or secondary.

I tend to think they are, and I tend to think they have found some physical evidence. Those cars have to be field tested first, presence of hemoglobin under black light and positive for proteins associated with human blood if not both, or they would not have taken them the way that they did.

TRACY, Calif. -- Hundreds of tips have been pouring into the Tracy Police Department about an 8-year-old girl missing since Friday.

Officers are also working around the clock in an effort to find Sandra Cantu, who was last seen walking in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park.

There are 150 to 200 people working on the case, Lt. Jeremy Watney said. Officers are working 12-hour shifts and putting vacation days on hold to accommodate the investigation.

A reward for information leading to Cantu's return has grown to $7,000.

The girl was last seen Friday afternoon walking from her home to a friend's home within the park, located just off West Clover Road.

Authorities have searched five properties in Tracy -- including four mobile homes in the park -- as well as a location in Oakdale.

Anyone with information may call the Tracy Police Department at 209-831-4550. Investigators said anyone wishing to donate money for the reward fund may call police.

Three cars were seized in the investigation, police said.

Watney said one tipster claimed he may have seen Cantu's father, Daniel Cantu, and that he may have taken the girl to Mexico.

There's nothing to indicate the girl is in Mexico, police said, but it's unclear if Daniel Cantu is still in the area. He told officials that he may not be going back to work in Southern California.

Police are looking at everybody involved in the case, Watney said, and family members have not been dismissed. Nobody has been cleared in the case, police said.

Officials are focusing their search on two men who live in the mobile home park where Sandra Cantu lives, authorities said earlier in the day.

Frank Wohler, a martial arts professor at Delta Kajukenbo who lives in the park, said he had no part in the disappearance.

Watney said one tipster claimed he may have seen Cantu's father, Daniel Cantu, and that he may have taken the girl to Mexico.

There's nothing to indicate the girl is in Mexico, police said, but it's unclear if Daniel Cantu is still in the area. He told officials that he may not be going back to work in Southern California.
I can't imagine he had anything to do with this, since he had to come from So Cal to go up to No Cal to be there with the family. And I thought I read that the dad didn't have much to do with Sandra's upbringing.  ::MonkeyConfused::

I am baffled yet again with this no Amber alert ..put out immediately.
Any Child that is reported missing should not be on check list..hmm lets see

I read somewhere that there are actually BOLO's .. put out.
Be on the look out !  anything would have helped in this Case when she first went missing.
Why do the LE keep saying that is not and Abduction .. That's false and misleading within itself .. So what does that mean.. that looking for Sandra is non-priority for others/public to look for her at all times  ..I do not understand this " not an abduction" term. Does that mean LE knows something and not yet releasing it to the public?

These Manufactured Home community's seem to be clutches for for undesirables. I know that we have many in our local area and they all vary from degree to degree from Community to community.
Some are very well maintained and the Homes actually have basements...then they go to the worst of the worst where you see the Orange outdoor electrical cords plugged in ..to an outlet on post ..near by.
I myself at one time was looking at them. Found though in the community itself there were over 40 sex offenders as residents... so Me said Oh hell no. Not my Kid.

Between the payment on the home/lot rent - they equal a mortgage. I do know that a Manufactured home is not considered property as if you did purchase a house, the property itself does not belong to you. It is considered an asset. A depreciating one at that. So they suck people in and get them to pay High high %'s on loans .. Its quite the cash cow for the owners of the property/land/park/community - They should have surveillance camera's on the playgrounds and within the pools ... you would think. 

With Sandra's Granpa installing the Camera on the outside of the house ... I wonder why? I understand it was for Safety ..but usually people do not install cameras like that - Until after something happens.. wonder what made him install the camera? Or "who" was the reason why it was installed. Was someone bothering Mom?
Mom on one interview I saw Not this one below, understandably distraught, seemed to be slow in answering questions and maybe even not all there? possibly medicated ?? I am not trying to be mean or poking at the Mom its just my observation.

On this video here. If you notice within the first few seconds you see a LE officer in a Doorway of a Home and it has Bars on the Door .. that usually means crime ..is prevalent. Mom answers the question about the Camera that " her father" installed - Was there a reason for the camera? Safety issue within your community ?
Mom says I thought it was save Over there ... Does Sandra live with MOM? Or Does Sandra live with her Grandparents .. her remark came to me that there is some disconnect in the family ...
Very strange that this little one Went Poof Missing and No One saw anything. I know by living in Apartments for over ten my years myself .. You get used to the same kids running about the community and pool .. and they tell you their Name and say HI and keep running and playing. And you Watch them. You see them and You watch out for them. I have even yelled at some. Get out of the parking lot .. Your going to get hurt. Go play on the grass. yadda.

I wouldn't read too much into FIL putting camera in.
My ex SIL put a camera outside at one point due to vandalism. They had a yard channel at one point. Who's at the door ? Turn to channel 100. Was there when he did it, it was easy for him and it was done in less than 1/2 an hour.

Thanks guys. I agree the PIO Shenemen is not helping in his comments. I am rarely critical of LE, and even that it has to be something egregious, but saying they believe she will be returned alive and well and that she was not kidnapped due to their be no evidence to the contrary, imo is irresponsible to the family and the community who literally have  a predator among them. Conversely, you dont want to start a panic.. But I think there is better dialog to address both those issues.

Lastly, the issue of SO's databases, the concentration of them in public housing and the consistency of state's reporting needs to be addressed at a Federal level, imo . Maybe then somebody can explain to me how it is ok to have an at risk predatory offender's address listed as homeless or transient???

Police have no evidence second-grader abducted

TRACY - Phones rang with hundreds of tips and investigators continued to sift through evidence gathered in a Monday evening raid in town.

But as yet another day passed, Tracy police on Tuesday offered no indication they are any closer to finding missing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu.

A video camera recorded Sandra leaving her home about 4 p.m. Friday in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, in the 800 block of West Clover Road, police said. She hasn't been seen since.
Four days after her family reported her missing, police maintained they have no evidence the second-grader was abducted - or that she is even alive.

"At this point, really, it is wide open, as far as what might have happened," to the little girl, Tracy police Lt. Jeremy Watney said.

The case of the missing second-grader, who vanished Friday afternoon from the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park on West Clover Road, continued to attract national attention as few clues to her whereabouts were revealed.

Increased scrutiny also began to fall on the two men investigators have questioned - but have not named suspects - in connection with the girl's disappearance.

Police refuse to confirm their identities or discuss any evidence collected from their cars and homes, which were searched late Monday.

But Frank Wohler will freely admit he's been questioned. He also says police searched his office and his home in the trailer park.

Wohler even acknowledges he kissed Sandra two years ago, when she was 6 years old, as they swam at the mobile home park they both call home.

He called it harmless affection.

"We were in the pool. Impulsive," the 59-year-old said Tuesday from his martial arts studio. "I was trying to be nice."

Wohler said investigators took his cell phone, various records and other items he declined to specify.

"They're trying to eliminate me" as a suspect, he said before ending the interview to go teach a class of children. "I'm used to being friendly with my students. No child or anything has ever been in my home."

Jose Chavez, the girl's grandfather, said the family told police about the kiss. When asked if police followed up on the report, he replied: "Not to my knowledge. They didn't inform us of anything."

Watney could not be reached later Tuesday to respond.

Police arrested another man during the raid Monday, but investigators said it was "not directly related" to their search for Sandra.

The man, Chris Sinclair, 49, was arrested, cited and released on a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice after he "got in the way of people investigating," Watney said. He said Sinclair was not violent but continued to accost investigators after multiple warnings.

Sinclair, also a resident of Orchard Estates, told KGO-TV San Francisco on Tuesday that police seized his cars and that he was just upset about the circumstances. He said he was questioned about Sandra's disappearance but said he doesn't know anything.

A relative who answered the phone Tuesday at a residence listed for Sinclair said he was not available to comment.

Late Monday, police announced they had served six search warrants on properties in Tracy and the Stanislaus County town of Oakdale.

Four were for homes in the trailer park. Another was an unspecified location elsewhere in Tracy, and the other was in Oakdale.

Police have declined to say why they were targeting two men, what they might know about Sandra and any details about the evidence, which is being processed by FBI agents in Sacramento.

Other elements of the investigation were obtained during the past couple of days.

Cadaver dogs picked up scents in rural areas north of Tracy, police said, but nothing was found.

Registered sex offenders in the area - none of whom live in the trailer park, according to the state Megan's Law Web site - have been interviewed. Surveillance video at nearby motels showed nothing, police said.

Lie detector tests have been administered to unidentified people.

Authorities say no one - including family members - has been ruled out as a suspect.

The sensational case has drawn a legion of media outlets all chasing their own leads.

The case is attracting offers from television regulars.

Defense attorney Daniel Horowitz, a frequent personality on cable news shows, said he will represent, free of charge, anyone who gets Sandra home alive.

Sacramento bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, fresh from involvement in another high-profile missing-child case - the Caylee Anthony case in Florida - said he is offering a $10,000 reward for Sandra's safe return.With the days counting, police said they have no option but to be optimistic.

"You have to hope for the best," Watney said.

I don't know the reservoir.  I live about 30 minutes from this area.  I am very curious to know why they are in the Old River.  If you pull a map east, you'll see that there is TONS of water all around this area.  The delta is not far away.  If you follow Grant Line to Byron Hwy (east) you'll see the aquaduct crosses it.  There is also another canal that crosses as well.  They're fairly close together.    I know some of those roads off of Byron Hwy turn into dirt roads that go back to canals that lead to the Delta.    What would make them concentrate on Old River?

Which maps are you using? Google maps I see is naming the sloughs too. 

Can you post the pic by any chance? I am on a new system right now and I am map challenged to put it mildly, lol

I'll tell you how I got there.

Googlemaps.com.  I put in Clover Rd, Tracy Ca.  From there, you can pull the map around by left clicking and dragging.  I like to see it on satellite view.  You'll see all the farm land, etc.  Grant Line runs parallel to Clover.  If you follow Grant Line to Byron Hwy going east,  you'll see the aquaduct.   If I am not mistaken, the sloughs that are in this area all run to the Delta, which you can get to San Fran Bay and out to the ocean. 

I know cadaver dogs hit near there, but I was curious to know what made them go to that body of water to begin with.

Something else that will help.  On my google map, if you zoom in just a bit, then it adds the names of the sloughs.

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything.   But I guess on Sunday, the volunteers were to meet up at a location at an old fire house at Linne Rd and Chrisman.  I hadn't been out that far and was kind of surprised.  I was told Monday morning to go there, and of course when I got there, there was nobody there.  If you google that, it is a WAYS away from the actual mobile home park.  I don't know if that was where a bunch of people could park or what.  But it seemed so far out.

Hubby just said they said on the news that they have all the cars of who belongs in the mobile home park written down.  If you're not someone they have talked to, they are stopping you.  He's kinda mad saying, that's pretty smart to let people know.  If they have her, do you think they are going to go there if they know they are going to be stopped?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento bounty hunter Leonard Padilla is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone with information about the whereabouts of missing Tracy girl Sandra Cantu.

The money comes in addition to a $7,000 reward already being offered to help find the 8-year-old child, who was last seen Friday walking in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park.

More than 360 tips have flowed in to police, who are following up as best as they can.

Police were expected to offer the latest details about the investigation at a 10:30 a.m. news conference that will be streamed live on KCRA.com.

Cantu was last seen walking from her home to a friend's home within the park, located just off West Clover Road.



Cantu is 4 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings.

Oakdale is northeast of Modesto.  I believe it was Oakdale because it was San Joaquin County.

I just realized all morning I was saying east on the map.  Lawsie mercy.  I meant west!!  The aquaduct is west on Byron Hwy.  You pull the map to the right, but you're going west. 

It was Oakdale.. Located about 40-50 miles east of Tracy near lake Don Pedro

400 some leads.  They are following up on them all.

Resources are not diminishing.  They are adding to as they need them.

No plans at this time to ramp down the resources.  As long as they have new leads coming in, they will follow them. 

They say they are putting pieces of the puzzle together, but not really giving any new details.  No  new search warrants this morning, but he said that could change within the hour if the leads command it.  If they need a search warrant, they WILL get it.

I think all children under 12 should be AMBER alerted as soon as an official report is taken.

Why Sandra was never AMBER alerted boggles my mind.

i'm not surprised if the dad didn't return to where ever he lived (i thought is was in southern CA not mexico???).  and he would have to be pretty stupid to leave without notifying LE.  it just doesn't sound like he was involved in Sandra's life very much so if he has a job i bet that would take priority over sticking around to find his missing daughter that he hardly knew....and I'm not saying this is right, JMO.

Regarding the whole Amber Alert thing......how/why is there certain criteria that MUST be met before issuing one??....a child is missing - plain and simple.  what would be the harm in issuing an Amber Alert even if you weren't POSITIVE the child was abducted.  just because you dont have a vehicle description????

I can't remember if I read it here or where, but there should be a tiered system at least when dealing with Amber alerts.  They don't want abuse of the system, but I would like to know how many people who work with the Amber alerts who have children of their own, if their child was missing, would they want one issued if not all criteria were  met?  I  am betting they would! 

I totally agree.  Right now there is only 1 active Amber Alert.  I dont see why, as a precaution even, they didn't issue one for Sandra.

My first thought when I heard an Amber Alert wasn't issued, I went with money. Our state, shall I say isn't the best financially under good ole Arnold. So my question is, if it is costly to issue an Amber Alert, would that way into the decision? I have no idea about this, and really would have no idea.

Definitely Oakdale.  I don't remember what highway it is on, but we always pass thru Oakdale on the way to Yosemite.  Its a very very rural area.  Is there any way to check and see if either POI owns a house in Oakdale?

Investigators Following Up On Hundreds Of Leads

TRACY, Calif. -- Investigators searching for a missing 8-year-old Tracy girl have received more than 100 tips in the last 24 hours and were considering several scenarios including that she has been abducted, was a runaway or has been taken to Mexico, authorities said Wednesday.

At a morning news conference, Tracy Police Lt. Jeremy Watney said a surveillance camera videotape showed eight-year-old Sandra Cantu leaving the mobile where she lived dressed in a “Hello Kitty t-shirt and black leggings.”

The tape was among the many leads being followed up on, he added.

“None of the leads are being discounted,” Watney said. “Every lead is being looked into and investigated.”

Watney said investigators were also looking into a tip that the girl had runaway in the past.

“We are looking into this as a missing person, a runaway, from any possible angle,” Watney said. “If it is (a runaway case), where is she at? And we need to get her home…For an 8-year-old, it is unusual to runaway from more than a couple of hours. So that’s why we are so concerned ... it is five days later. “

A friend of the girl's father said he was in town and talking with the Tracy police and the FBI on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday night, neighbors and friends sang during an emotional candlelight vigil as Tracy residents struggled to maintain hope for Cantu’s safe return.

Families have gathered together every night since the second grader disappeared from the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park last Friday. Police say they're following plenty of tips and authorities have searched the homes of some neighbors, but so far with no luck.

When KTVU talked with families living at Orchard Estates Tuesday, they said they're badly shaken by Cantu's disappearance and hope that she will be found alive.

Teams of investigators have been at the mobile home park throughout the day. Tuesday evening, law enforcement was seen entering the missing girl's home.

Residents say they're struggling to come to terms with what happened.

"It's not 30 years ago. We need to watch our children," said Orchard Estates resident Lindalou Wales. "There's more pedophiles out there than you can imagine."

Residents tell KTVU the mobile home park has a close knit community where neighbors know each other.

The missing second grader is one of the many children here who often play outside in the mobile home park. Kadie Wales grew up at Orchard Estates and is now raising three children in the same home.

"It's scary," said Wales. "I have a 13-year-old daughter. It's scary."

Monday night, the FBI arrived at the mobile home park in unmarked vehicles to enforce several search warrants. One of the two men whose homes were searched by FBI agents spoke with KTVU.

Frank Wohler is a martial arts instructor who runs a school in Tracy. He says Sandra used to help him water his yard.

Wohler acknowledged kissing Sandra two years ago, but says it was innocent. He says he understands why investigators are looking at him.

"When a child is missing, they should blow it up," said Wohler "And I had nothing to do with it."

Another resident of the mobile home park who had his two vehicles towed away by FBI Monday night also tells KTVU that he had nothing to do with the little girl's disappearance.

Police say they have given polygraph tests, but would not say to whom. So far, no one's been detained or arrested for Sandra's disappearance.

Cantu’s distraught mother Maria Chavez reiterated her plea for her daughter to come home Tuesday.

"Please, whoever took her, just let her go," said Chavez. "She needs to come home to her mom who loves her very much and misses her."

At Tuesday night's vigil, people sang Sandra Cantu's favorite song: "Somewhere Out There." Residents say they hope to hold a candlelight vigil every night until she comes home safe and sound.

TRACY, CA - A strained and weary-looking father urged everyone not to let down in the search for his missing daughter, 8-year-old Sandra Cantu.

The girl has not been seen since about 4 p.m. last Friday afternoon at the Orchard Estates mobile home park in Tracy where she lives with her mother and grandparents.

"Please bring her home. Please bring her home. She's scared. Enough has gone on. Honey, if you can get to a phone, dial 911, babe. Scream, kick, do what you need to do, but please, bring her home," urged Sandra's father, Daniel Cantu.

"All I know is there's an 8-year-old girl out there who happens to be my daughter who needs help. Please help," he said.

Cantu said he was grateful for fliers being distributed about his missing daughter but said more were needed showing his daughter with golden brown hair. He said her hair color is more golden brown, not the dark brown seen in some photographs being circulated.

Earlier Wednesday, Tracy police said they seized a fourth vehicle in the investigation into the disappearance of Sandra.

Tracy police Lt. Jeremy Watney also said the number of leads detectives and the FBI have received has climbed to 477.

"None of the leads are being discounted. Every lead is being looked into," Watney said in a news conference Wednesday morning.

Cantu is 4 feet tall, 45 pounds with golden brown hair and brown eyes. When last seen on surveillance video at Orchard Estates, she was outside the mobile home where she lives and then she leaves the camera frame. She was wearing a pink "Hello Kitty" t-shirt and black leggings.

The police search for the 8-year-old began Friday evening. Over the weekend, a few hundred volunteers joined the search.

Officials said Tuesday that two men who live in Orchard Estates were considered "persons of interest" in the case and were being investigated. They did not elaborate further.

Monday night, the FBI served six search warrants on four residences - four in Orchard Estates, one on a home in the city of Tracy and a sixth on a home in Oakdale in connection with the case.

Search warrants have also been issued for four vehicles.

Officers continue to maintain an active presence in Orchard Estates. Watney said Tuesday that occupants of each mobile home in the community have been interviewed at least twice and officers stop those going in and out of the park.

He said nothing was being discounted in the investigation. "Missing person, a runaway, every angle possible," Watney said.

A $7,000 reward has been issued for information leading to finding Sandra.

To be NICE???? I have an eight year old daughter and 11 year old daughter, and a "nice" gesture by a man like that would have him pinned to the ground by my 6'5, 300lb husband (who looks like Mr. Clean ticked off!!)

My condolences on Mr. Sinclair's passing, but it has appeared in news articles previously and your in laws were directly quoted in them publicly. No one is judging your in laws nor would I allow that on my site. It is always very sad when I see family members put in a position they did not ask for. I would be remiss if I did not urge you to tell Christopher to tell Police EVERYTHING he knows. To that end, if he was involved with anything to do with Sandra's disappearance, if she is unharmed, I have a friend of mine willing to represent him free of charge. I'm sorry hit post, before I posted  ::MonkeyRoll:: I never saw the Sinclair's phone numbers anywhere. I wonder how many people she emailed? Maybe it's me, but with things like this, I would not be emailing people complaining, it will just draw more attention. Blink with the offer of an attorney to represent him free of charge, if Sandra is unharmed is very nice, curious if she will reply.

first of all, no one has posted anything that isn't already out on the internet...at least to my knowledge.  it took me a whole 3 seconds to find there phone number and i still didn't post it but even if i did, its out there for all to see.  same goes for the suicide info. 

i have *secrets* i'm sure that are on the internet if someone would ever choose to look me up.  however, i wasn't arrested for badgering cops during the search of a missing girl   ::MonkeyNoNo::
