At the top of her closet are some boxes, heavy ones.  I pull them down and open them to find Natalee’s composition notebook, which is actually a journal from a high-school English class.  It’s in her handwriting.  I have never seen this before.  As I open it, I instantly feel her with me right now at this moment, like a physical presence.  Overwhelmed with this warmth, I take the journal out and sit down on her bed to read what she has written about love and life.

Family is like a deck of cards.  You never know what kind of card you’ll draw.  No one is able to choose their family, but has to accept their own family.  I consider myself lucky because I am really happy with the family that I have to me, family is very important and should be a person’s top priority.

As I read on in the journal, I discover that one of the most moving entries is her desription of a hero.  Natalee writes:

A Hero is someone who puts others before himself.  He or she is very selfless and cares about the well-being of others.  Heroes also accept life's challenges and remain strong through tough times.  They also have a strong sense of determination and stick to goals and morals.  I believe that heroes uphold morals and try to encourage others to live life morally correct.  Heroes are not only just people called in times of physical danger, but individuals that can both emotionally and physically help people get through rough times.  A hero should always show respect for other people as well as respect for himself.

Instantly I realize that Natalee is poignantly describing the people who have reached out to help her family get through this "tough time."  It's almost as if she is thanking everyone herself by recognizing the importance of selfless people.  And I am amazed at her profound words here.  I sit and read the entire journal ...

It talks about the proof that by the early morning hours of May 30th (after 1:30 departure from C&C's) and throughout the daytime hours - that all 3 suspects were covering up for some crime committed against Natalee.

Would that have been John Charles Croes???or was he deposed in Miami?

Prior to the filing ... the Aruban "powers that be" behind this huge defamation lawsuit must have been convinced by the NFI findings ... the NFI findings that imply that Deepak did not implicate himself, Satish and Joran in wrongdoing against the person of Natalee Holloway in his interview with Skeeters.  Considering ... the Skeeters' interview portion has not been dropped from the lawsuit ... it would appear the Kalpoes' attorneys have not budged on their position.  Why?

Is/was John Charles Croes in Miami? This was for an oral depo so seems odd that it would be him since they have emails between Deepak and John Charles Croes right????

I surmise the reason the representatives for Kalpoes have not budged on their position is because *most* lawsuits are settled out of court in the ninth hour.  that is the whole scheme of lawsuits - attorney's make money continuing the case hoping the other side will cave in for whatever reason. Going into court Kalpoes will not stand a chance in their attempt to prove defamation. The Aruba minister stated they were still suspects. In other words, their character was that of murder suspects long before Dr. Phil show had Jamie Skeeters on as a guest with the damning statements by Deepak. Don't expect those leprechauns to figure it out. One only has to look at their eduction background to realize they are as close to dunce as anyone can get.  ::MonkeyDevil::

When?

Kermit ... I realize that the Natalee Holloway case is an open Aruban investigation which implies case documents cannot be released and ... Joran is still considered a suspect but ... in January, 2009 ... in an Aruban press conference ... the implication was that Deepak and Satish were deemed witnesses ... no longer suspects.

The defamation lawsuit was filed in December, 2006.  I just hope that it does not drag on much longer.  I cannot comprehend what is behind the judge's reasoning for not throwing the lawsuit out considering Aruba refuses to release case documents which are crucial to the defence.

I wish that Phil McGraw's attorneys would request a forensic investigation of Skeeters' hard drive from the FBI rather than private audio analysts.

The findings of an FBI forensic investigation on Skeeters' hard drive compiled into a report ... a report presented to an American judge by Phil McGraw's attorneys ... would put aside any doubt regarding what Deepak allegedly said ... what Deepak allegedly didn't say.

It makes sense if the lawsuit goes to court that the Kalpoes' attorneys would be in possession of the NFI findings for the judge's consideration.

And LIVE AND DIRECT tonight on the phone from Aruba is Arlene Ellis Schipper.  She's an Aruban attorney and also member of the Aruban Strategic Communications Task Force.  She sent us that tape.  Arlene, what is the basis for the manipulation?  Where do you think the changes took place, if at all?

ARLENE ELLIS SCHIPPER, ARUBAN STRATEGIC COMM. TASK FORCE:  Well, it's not what I think, it is what the Dutch forensic institute thinks and what we have also requested the FBI to confirm, which confirmation we haven't received yet.  However, the NFI had four investigators separately look at these tapes, and they say that the Dr. Phil show tapes were edited for content in the following order.  Just before the word “she,” there was a cut.  And just after the word “did,” there was a cut.  And then they compared it to the CD-ROM that Mr. Skeeters sent the officials, and you have seen that piece, and it says, “No, she didn't.”  And he shakes his head while doing—while saying that.

COSBY:  Now, you mentioned, Arlene, that the FBI—we know that they also have the tape.  When do you think you're going to hear back from them?  And do you think that they're going to make their results public?

SCHIPPER:  I hope so, actually.  And you know what?  Because officially, of course, the court-appointed forensic institute is the NFI, the Netherlands.  But for comfort, the authorities here sent it also for your comfort, actually, your American comfort—the authorities also sent it to the FBI with—through an MLAT (ph) procedure, which is a mutual—just mutual legal assistance treaty between our countries.

And they also requested, on recommendation of the NFI, to investigate the hard disk of Mr. Skeeters.  And based on that, he volunteered his hard disk.  So we are waiting already for two weeks on those results.

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN:  Dr. Phil and his staff stand by the tape they aired and claim Deepak admitted — and not denied — to having sex with Natalee. A representative for the "Dr. Phil" show specifically said that the show 1) Did not manipulate the Deepak tape in any way; 2) Did not alter what Deepak said in any way and 3) That they would give us [today] the tape they worked from so that we could inspect it to verify what they were claiming …

The representative also said the show stands by its position that Deepak said on tape, "You would be surprised how simple it was...." The implication of that quote is that Deepak had sex with Natalee.

We are also curious what the FBI has to say about the content of this interview. I was told by Jamie Skeeters on the phone the other night that he originally "taped" this interview directly to his computer hard drive and that he gave the hard drive to the FBI. Of course this hard drive — the "original" — is what will tell us exactly what was said or not said  — provided it can be adequately enhanced and analyzed. We don't have access to that hard drive so even after evaluating all the tapes and CD's given us, there could still remain in my mind some question.

They said that good things come in threes.  Well ... if the Aruban "powers that be" who are behind this defamation lawsuit lose ... if Joran van der Sloot is sentenced to serve years in a Peruvia lockup for the murder of Stephany Flores and ... if one person who was on board the Persistence grows a conscience and reveals all in regards to the betrayal of Natalee Holloway ... I will consider 2011 a very good year.

The exact plans for gas supply and distribution have now taking shape. Thus, at a Valero floating reservoir where liquid gas is stored that probably once a month is provided. At the same container is also an installation that the liquid substance into a gas sales. "This system is used until the gas line from Venezuela has been realized. Then the monthly supply from Venezuela, like a sort of safety net, "said Rafini. The road to the gas line from the Venezuelan mainland is long, and apparently uncertain. "It's between three and five years before the pipeline is there. Before the pipeline is constructed to Aruba which is negotiating with both Colombia where the gas comes from, as in Venezuela where the pipe to a large extent through. "Last year in July spoke to Prime Minister Mike Eman (AVP) and the Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolás Maduro remaining to jointly studying the possibility of a gas pipeline from energy company PDVSA from Venezuela, Aruba and Curacao. With that goal in October, a committee. The status of this committee is still unknown. Moreover Rafini says that the exploration gas reserves on its seabed is still being investigated by the government.

Solana Beach man suspected of check fraud scheme

SAN DIEGO --San Diego Sheriff's deputies arrested a Solana Beach man Friday on accusations he wrote four bad rent checks equaling $15,000 in Solana Beach.

Investigators said they may have stumbled onto an elaborate financial scheme spanning two states and an untold amount of money.

"We've developed information that leads to additional financial crimes," said Sgt. Mark Varnau of the San Diego Sheriff's Department. "(This) appears to be a pretty elaborate scheme of fraudulent behavior."

Damon Westmoreland, 39, was renting two North County properties, apartments in Solana Beach and Cardiff. A deputy was investigating the fraudulent rent checks in Solana Beach when the second address came up. Walls of that address were covered in writing, possible evidence of a financial scheme.

Investigators said he may be running a Nevada corporation illegally as well, using a front person to open it, illegally getting PayPal checks through the corporation and taking money out of the business just before shutting it down.

The judge should have ruled on that TODAY!

When what has been revealed is considered ... it would appear that this request by the plaintiffs (Kalpoes) would benefit the defendant (Phil McGraw).  There must be something I am not understanding in regards to the Plaintiffs' (Kalpoes) motive.

So they have arrested some locals for selling drugs to turists near Moomba's?  They are worried that it will put a black mark on Aruba?   ::MonkeyHang::

Maybe the arrests of some locals for selling drugs to tourists is just a diversion to take the heat off  the really big drug dealers.  A few local, minor level dealers are arrested then the police and/or gov't officials can say they're cracking down on the drug trade, when in reality, it's all just for show.  The little dealers get nailed to keep the heat off the big ones. 

 Another thought I have is the locals that were arrested selling drugs to tourists may have gotten on the wrong side of the police, government official or possibly the bigger dealers  for failing to pay protection money/kickbacks.

Dave Holloway's perspective when he first set foot on the Island was that drug enforcement was a non-issue.

Page 10:  While customers must pass by a bouncer at the door, there was no indication that he was stopping anyone from entering. The bar was packed with teenagers doing Jell-O shots and sleazy-looking island boys preying on the beautiful young female tourist ...

I did not want to stay inside, so we hung out around the street corners. In less than two hours, we probably experienced at least ten to fifteen offers from various drug dealers who wanted us to buy from them.

Page 16:  During our daylight searches throughout the island, our group came across many abandoned houses where drug addicts had left razors and other drug paraphernalia. Some were filled with foul smelling odors, feces, urine, cardboard boxes they used as blankets or beds, and general trash. One of those houses was located right next to a fine restaurant near the hotel area and a McDonald’s ...

Several times, people came into the hotel to meet with other locals and an apparent drug deal was taking place. The person would come in to scope out the area prior to doing the deal.

Okay, now I'm confused (again)! Both parties are clearly not "stipulating" here -- did the ruling mean the Defendants must "stipulate" within 5 days or the Plaintiffs? ::MonkeyConfused::

The Plaintiff is asking for a continuance because they are stalling.  The Defendants do not want a continuance, they want a Summary Judgement.  The just had set a date for the hearing on the Summary Judgement AND the Trial.  Now the judge is saying that he will allow a delay in the trial for 60 days IF the Plaintiff's file the fully executed Stipulation for Continuance. 

Very helpful!!! The way I read it now is that "counsel" must stipulate within 5 days. Counsel means BOTH sides!! I THINK this mean that the continuance is ONLY granted if Dr. Phil's attorneys agree to it. (That ain't gonna happen!!)

That is how I read it at first -- now, I think the judge was saying "counsel" (meaning both sides!)

Edited to add:  This means they have to file by 2/22 which is this Tuesday.  I will continue to watch the court website and post if anything happens.  There probably won't be anything posted on the court website now until next week as I doubt they work the weekend.

BELTON, Mo. — One metro couple hopes a new television series will help keep their story in the national spotlight. The parents of missing teen Kara Kopetsky will soon appear on a television show called "Vanished" on the Lifetime Network.

The television series "Vanished" will be hosted by Beth Holloway, the mother of Natalie Holloway who turned up missing in Aruba nearly six years ago. Holloway was 18-years-old at the time of her disappearance. Kopetsky was 17-years-old when she disappeared. But the parallels between these two teens runs much deeper than that.

Kopetksy's mom, Rhonda Beckrod says there's a person of interest involved in both cases. Both girls were high school seniors when they disappeared. Kopetsky's favorite color was purple and so was Holloway's.

"She actually asked me what I had done with Kara's room," Beckford said. "I told her I'd kept it the same. So I asked her if you don't mind telling me, what have you done with Natalie's?"

Beth Holloway has a special room for her daughter too. Kopetsky's stepfather Jim Beckford says Beth Holloway thanked them for all they've done in their search for their daughter.

"People we don't know have enveloped Kara with their love," said Jim Beckford. "I said she's not just our daughter. She's everyone's daughter just like Natalie."

For the scene I appeared in for Justice For Natalee, we shot on Saturday, Feb. 12th. It was set in Aruba and I was assigned to be a cameraman. We were filming at the Gretna Courthouse and they had other extras walking around as tourists as we were filming. Tracy Pollan (who is married to Michael J. Fox) plays Natalee Holloway’s mother, Beth Twitty.

After that scene finished at around 11 A.M., we changed into our second wardrobe choice to play FBI Agents for the next few hours, I had a gun and a badge! I was pretending to get cash out of the ATM Machine with confidential files in my hand outside of the building, which by the way was in Birmingham, Al. Then I was walking into the FBI Building with another extra while drinking coffee and pretending to talk while Tracy Pollan and Michael Beach (who plays her lawyer) were outside talking.

After a catered lunch, we filmed again between 3-8 P.M. I was a cameraman again because the actor playing Joran van der Sloot, Natalee’s suspected killer, was being brought into the FBI Building in handcuffs and we were supposed to swarm them and take pictures.

After 04.00 hours it was decided to resume the search at dawn. The Dash-8, maritime patrol aircraft of the Coast Guard is deployed, and vessels in the vicinity were asked to look into the drowning. Unfortunately, after the great effort and good cooperation of the above organizations, the person could not be found and the search was around 16.00 hours on Saturday afternoon, was canceled. He is probably deceased.

RE: KIA DETAINEES-PHYSICAL ABUSE ON FEB. 20, 2011

Dear Honorable Judges of Instruction:

We the Commission for the Detainees at the ICN/KIA write to inform you of the
following:

As a result of the continued abuse against us at the hands of the ICN/KIA and the Aruban
Government, some of the people whom are tired of sleeping in the rain and having our
basic human rights dictated by law and international standards and treaties, violated and
trampled on, participated in a protest within this facility yesterday February 20, 2011.

The police who showed up took this opportunity to shoot at the detainees, strip them
naked in front of everyone and then proceeded to beat them while their hands and feet
were handcuffed/ tied and also while they lay flat on their stomachs on the ground.
Clearly this overly excessive use of force is illegal, inhuman and degrading treatment,
and unjustified given the fact that these detainees were already contained, on the ground
and fully restrained.

This is also completely against all national and international laws and treaties and against
all human rights standards including “The Standard Minimum Rules for the treatment of
prisoners” which states that “inhuman or degrading punishments shall be completely
prohibited as punishments for disciplinary offences”.  It is also against the laws set by the
European Convention for the Prevention of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment
(CPT). Given the CPT’s most recent report on Aruba which stated that “ill-treatment by
the police in Aruba is by no means a rare phenomenon”; it is evident that the CPT is in
agreement that there is clear and blatant abuse taking place in Aruba against prisoners
and detained persons. As a result they have made several recommendations and 2
statements condemning the treatment of prisoners here; Recommendations which we may
add have fallen on the deaf ears of the Aruban Government and which the Appeal court
Judges have done nothing about.

Nonetheless, it is clear to us that the Aruban Government and it’s police force have no
respect for the very same laws which they are entrusted to uphold and thus ask the
Honorable courts and it’s Honorable Judges of Instruction to get involved and intervene
in this situation.

As the Commission for the Detainees we demand a thorough investigation on the
physical abuse inflicted on the prisoners yesterday and for the Honorable Judges of
Instruction of the First Instant Court of Aruba to immediately come see for themselves
that these prisoners whom were viciously beaten yesterday are Ok. We respectfully
request the above, with sincere hope to avoid further problems and additional disorder
within this facility.

We hope to have informed you sufficiently and await your prompt reply!

It is wonderful to see the Harringtons will be speaking also.  They didn't allow criminals to take their lives, along with their daughters'.  They pushed the incidents back where they belonged, into the faces of the killers.  I know they wish they had their daughters, who were so full of potential back, and so does the country, if not parts of the world.  What a wonderful doctor Natalee would have made.

Natalee and Morgan's potentials were endless because they not only had the brains to memorize and retain the knowledge necessary to be successful, they had the heart to deliver the compassion we are so desperately in need of in this world. Morgan would have no doubt taken this international, as she already started on this mission.  Two fine women taken away from the world much too soon at the hands of brutal and selfish people whose lives apparently still have amounted to a big zero, no, in reality they add up to negative numbers because they actually have taken from the world and not given.  They owe a great debt to not only the parents of these women, but society, too.

Tacopina and your ilg, I can see how your dedication to your career has made such a difference to what we so desperately need in this world.  It warms my heart...oh, wait, I think that is heartburn.

God bless Beth and the Harringtons for staying the course, and not letting the many planned distractions get in the way of their missions.  Their ability to focus in the midst of one catastrophe after another is remarkable.

Pages 230/231:  I can't say for sure if we'll ever know that answer to whether my daughter is alive or not.  I know it doesn't look good.  But just as that old metal spiral staircase rose from the ashes when our lake house burned down, so too faith stands strong in the remains of this devastating loss.  And just as my Dad built another house around that staircase, I will build another life around hope and faith.  It won't ever be the same.  But I pray that it will, at the very least, be useful.

The hope that filled Natalee's heart fills mine, and I will press on.  Faith got me up this morning, and faith will see me through tomorrow.  And the next day.  And the next.

Birmingham (WIAT)  The mother of missing Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway has reportedly signed a movie and reality series for the Lifetime cable network.

Beth Holloway will host "Vanished with Beth Holloway", a ten-episode reality series looking at unsolved crimes and offering her insight into them. There will also be a sequel to the 2009 Lifetime movie about Natalee's disappearance which set ratings records for the cable network.

Natalee Holloway disappeared in 2005 on a trip to Aruba with Mountain Brook High School classmates. She was last seen at a club in the company of Joran van der Sloot. The young Dutchman is still considered the prime suspect in the case but has never been charged by Aruban authorities.

When I was notified of this, I found the boat, back on its mooring with engine running and a visitor from the USA on board. The guy who too...k the boat was at Bugaloe bar drunk out of his mind. We took the boat to the Renaissance Marina in Oranjestad for damage control. Visible damage to the topsides (cosmetic) on the starboard side were imediately visible.
      One of her anchor lines was pulled into the propeller causing extensive damage to the drive train including the propeller shaft, engine mounds, shaft strut and possibly transmission and V-Drive.See More

Natalee Holloway has been missing since 2005, but the fascination with her disappearance remains stronger than ever.

In fact, Lifetime is developing a sequel to its top-rated 2009 telefilm about Holloway, as well as a reality series starring her mom, reports Deadline.com.

"Justice for Natalee Holloway" takes place several years after the first TV movie and will follow Beth Holloway (Tracy Pollan) on her search to discover the fate of her teenage daughter, who disappeared on a senior class trip to Aruba.


Beth and her attorney team up with the FBI to build a case against suspected killer Joran van der Sloot (Stephen Amell), who has demanded $250,000 to reveal where Natalee's remains are located. But on the fifth anniversary of Natalee's disappearance, he is arrested in Peru for the murder of another young woman.

Hope all is well Blue Moon. I was speaking of a day that I was walking to where I needed to go and it was a bit drizzly here in the Northwest, as we all know it can be. I was walking and had the headphones from my phone in, was listening to an oldies station and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird came on. As I looked up there was a glint of sunshine through the clouds and I thought of all the Freebirds, Monkey's, Beth, and most of all Natalee Holloway and Stephany Flores. I have many subtle moments from time to time that reminds me what a gift life is and how easy it can be taken away. The contributions from everyone on this forum do not go unoticed with me and I carry the tenacity of the Monkey's everywhere I go whether I like it or not. This is a very wonderful group of people who choose to devote precious time to two young ladies who were ripped from the prime of their life by EVIL. God Bless each and every person who's devoted time to these young ladies!

I was thinking about the stupid drunk kid thing myself.  That is just what I meant earlier. 

The thing is, when you wean your kids on hard alcohol and drugs and then look the other way when your sons and daughters are partaking continuously of the party life that tourists come to imbibe in for a week or two, there can be nothing but stupid kid tricks on one big sloppy island.  When are they going to start realizing these kids are killing themselves, each other, tourists, and tourism while they are poisoning themselves.

It is not cute, they are not sporters, they are addicts who are killing themselves and pulling the whole island down the hole with them.  Underage drinking is illegal--that's your kid they are serving.  Underage gambling is illegal--that's your kid that needs bucks for their gambling sickness.  Prostitution is illegal--that's your kid they are selling and exploiting.  Keep looking the other way and blame it on the tourists who come for the very thing you advertise and promote as safe.

They better bring a razor and a bowl or two of frosted flakes to move things along.

Beth Holloway shared accounts of her missing daughter, Natalee, as part of our college's annual national conference on missing persons.

Beth Holloway, mother of Natalee Holloway, spoke at yesterday’s conference as well as at a session on campus for the community last night. Natalee was on a senior class trip to Aruba but didn’t return home with her classmates. She went missing and it was eventually determined that she had been murdered. Beth shared the incredible story of getting that call from Aruba, the months of effort to work with authorities in a foreign country to find Natalee, and her eventual resolve to turn this tragedy into making a difference for others. I can’t imagine how families deal with the abduction of loved ones and was in awe of Beth’s strength, courage, and resolve to live her own life in a way that was a positive force for others.  We had a great audience turn out from the community to hear Beth’s story firsthand.

I felt the closing message last night had application not only for cases of missing children, but for so many aspects of life. That message was this:  even when we do all the right things, sometimes bad things happen. And when they do, we need to constructively work through them with the best resources available and a resolve to make the most of the situation. When we face our own challenges, it is always good to keep the perspective that most likely others have dealt with worse things. Last night I couldn’t help but think that the senseless murder of one’s child had to be among the very worst of challenges.

Page 147-151:   Little beads of sweat form across Paulus’s brow and forehead.  My arms rest on top of the investigation notebook I carry with me all the time.  Natalee’s reward poster with her picture on it is inside the front clear cover, in plain view.  Paulus’s arms are on the table.  Our knuckles are only inches apart arms are shaking.  His fists are clenched.

"You're responsible for Aruba being trapped in hell," I tell him, still calm.  "You can change that.  But Aruba will stay in a perpetual state of hell until you come forward."

I gently push the notebook toward him so he can see Natalee.  Anita remains silent.  The breeze is blowing ever cooler through the room now, yet the sweat on Paulus is increasing.

“How did Joran get home that night, Paulus?”  He responds that he doesn’t know.  “Did he go to school the next day?”  He responds again that he doesn’t know.

Greta and I have many questions.  “you mean this is the most critical time in your son’s life – he is being held on suspicion of kidnap and murder – and you don’t know how he got home or if he went to school?”

Paulus stammers when he answers.  He hesitates.  He sounds unnatural and blinks rapidly.  His head is down.  The beads of sweat turn to bubbles that grow together and gather under his chin, then drop – splash – onto the table below.

Pulling a couple of prayer bracelets out of my pocket, I offer them to the van der Sloots.  First I tie one on Anita’s arm, then ask  Paulus if he would like one.  He lifts his clench-fisted arm, shaking as if he has Parkinson’s disease, and tries very hard to hold it up.  What a pathetic form of a man he is, I think – a very different person from the one who stood so brazenly in his front yard in the wee hours that first morning, facing down Aruban police and our men from home.  I take my time tying the bracelet, very, very slowly, and explain the meaning of the three cords of yarn.

“Paulus, this bracelet stands for a Bible verse.  It’s Ecclesiastes 4:12.  “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three stands is not quickly broken.””  I finish the tying and gently pat the knot.  “There you go.”

And right then the bracelet looks different to me.  I see the three cords as the suspects, and the knot as the end holding them together as Paulus.  It’s not just clear – it’s crystal clear.   There are potentially four people who know what happened to Natalee.  We need the knot to come loose and the three to unravel.

Anita gets a kitchen towel and first blots Paulus’s head.  Then she lays it on the pools of sweat that have formed on the table in front of him and, in one big swipe, folds the towel over and cleans it away.

No one could have predicted that this encounter would take place.

It's been over nine weeks since Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway disappeared on the last night of her vacation in Aruba.  Since then, her mother Beth Holloway Twitty, has stayed on the island to take part in the search effort.

Her relentless determination for answers brought her face-to-face with Deepak Kalpoe, one of the three suspects involved in the disappearance. Under the guise of developing film, Beth Holloway showed up at the internet cafe where he works. 

She tells MSNBC-TV host Joe Scarborough that Deepak avoided her questions and avoided eye contact.

BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY, MOTHER OF NATALEE HOLLOWAY: I don’t know how long I was in there.  It may have been an hour.  It could have been longer.  We went in there to develop some pictures, just trying to give Deepak an opportunity to talk to me.  We know that he has some answers.  And I think one of my biggest questions that I have is that Joran committed a sexual assault against Natalee in the car and we know Deepak and Satish were there. 

I just asked him, did you try to help Natalee or did you participate?  He can’t even answer that.  He would just either refer to it with silence or his attorney told him not to speak with me.  And I just can’t imagine, given that opportunity, that he would not want to take advantage of it to clear his name, with Natalee’s mother standing right there in front of him. 

JOE SCARBOROUGH, ‘SCARBOROUGH COUNTRY’ HOST: So, you went to this Internet cafe and asked him about the reports of the sexual assault or the rape in the car, and he just simply refused to answer? 

HOLLOWAY: Now, I can’t refer to it as rape, but I can refer to it as sexual assault.  That’s as far as I can go with it.  I know that some was occurring.  He would either answer me with silence, or would not look at me.  I had to keep telling him over and over again, pick your head up.  Look at me when I’m talking with you.  I’m trying to help you.  You know, look at the damage, look at what he’s doing to Aruba. 

The citizens, I’m sure, are outraged at how he is just disregarding any type of respect for maintaining Aruba’s integrity.  There are a lot of people that have been watching, and even from the U.S., and we all want answers and we’re giving him every opportunity to clear his name.  And he can’t do it.   

SCARBOROUGH: Did you, at any point in this meeting, just simply say, hey, listen, I don’t think you’re telling the truth; your story that you’ve been telling the police, or I guess I should say your stories, just don’t add up?  Did you call him a liar? 

HOLLOWAY: I didn’t call him a liar, but I can tell you, in that hour or hour-and-a-half I was there, I asked him repeatedly.  I was very persistent.  I did not stop.  I kept reminding him that we’ve got a $250,000 reward for the whereabouts of Natalee.  We are offering $1 million for her safe return.

We, as her family, are doing everything we can to make this worthwhile, to come forward.  We’re giving him lots of choices and opportunities to come forward and do the right thing.  I offered him to please come on one of the shows with me, yours tonight.   

But that just shows, some huge level of guilt and involvement.  He cannot even look at Natalee’s mother.  He can’t even deny it. 

SCARBOROUGH: Yes.  I think it’s absolutely fascinating that you go in there and he can’t even make eye contact with you, that, here you are, the person that’s obviously anguished by the disappearance of your daughter and possible death of your daughter, you go try to talk to him, and you’ve got to tell him, make eye contact with me; look in my eyes. 

So you sensed that he looked guilty to you?  Was he obviously intimidated by your presence in there? 

HOLLOWAY: I’ll tell you, he looked sick to me.  He looked sick with worry. 

All I saw were his eyelids the entire time, except when I would tell him he had to look at me.  That’s all I saw.  His head was down.  He was nervous.  I mean, he was just continually going back and forth to the computer, just frantically typing, just senseless typing.  I could see where I was seated that it was just senseless typing.  He was just that  fright or flight that someone gets, but he couldn’t flight, so all he had was fright in there. 

SCARBOROUGH: Now, is he following your campaign?

HOLLOWAY: Obviously, he was on duty. 

SCARBOROUGH: Yes, obviously on duty, trying to stay away from your questions. 

Is he aware of the campaign, the aggressive campaign that you’re going through every night on TV?  Does he understand that you’re not going away, that you’re going to keep going back on TV time and time again until you get justice for your daughter? 

HOLLOWAY: You know, I think he is truly aware of it.  I’m encouraged by the fact that he is watching.  I think he’s got a vested interest in this case, I thought it was amusing. 

The one question that he did ask me, and this was probably 10 minutes before I was leaving.  He told me that the media has not seen this side of you.  I told him, I’d been saving it for you, Deepak. 

SCARBOROUGH: What side is that? 

HOLLOWAY: I think it’s just the side that, I will stop at nothing to get answers.  There is nothing that I won’t do.  There’s nowhere that I won’t go.  I’m going to ask every question.  I don’t care how painful it is.  I will do it, because I’m not going to have any regrets.   

There are too many people that have been supporting me and they want answers too.  So, if I’m in the position to ask them, I need to take advantage of it.  I had the opportunity and I did the best I could, because, it’s a tragedy for Aruba and it’s a tragedy for all of us involved.  These citizens deserve better than that.  They’re good people here.  They do not deserve to be put through what Deepak and Satish Kalpoe and Joran Van Der Sloot and the father, Paulus, are putting them through.  They’re subjecting their country to this.  It’s a tragedy.  It is a shame. 

SCARBOROUGH: Did you ever ask him questions like, where is my daughter?  Is my daughter still alive?  Did you kill my daughter?  Did it ever go to that level, where you were really asking just the tough, tough questions? 

HOLLOWAY: Joe, I’ve got a lot more days on this island, so I’m not going anywhere.  I’ve got plenty of time.  I’ve got lots more pictures to be developed at the Internet cafe.   

SCARBOROUGH: Here we have, again, people writing around the United States, thousands of miles away, and yet they’re taking the posters down there.  Did you mention that to him?  Did you mention it to anybody in the store? 

HOLLOWAY: Oh, absolutely.  There was a customer at the counter at the same time I was there.  The man knew who I was.

I had to explain that the reward for the $1 million for a safe return and the $250,000 for her whereabouts, because, you know, the tourists that come here, they ask me, where are her posters?  Why don’t you have her posters up?  And, if I put them up, I can’t help it if this business owner took her poster down. 

It saddened me greatly, because we are trying everything we can, as her family, to bring forth a resolution.  But we’ve got to have some help.  And, for the most part, they remain in these businesses on the walls and on the glass doors, and that’s where we need to get the message out.  But, if I put one up and his owner, this is what Deepak told me, that his manager or boss made him take it down.  So, the only thing I know to do is to go back and try again.

I saw the promo for this sequel last week -- included an interview with Tracey and a few others.  There was no mincing words of the opinion of Joran -- and the unforgivable acts he was 'allowed' to commit. 'Permitted' behavior.

It will be interesting to me to see if the authorities in Aruba look the other way with Sebastian too.  From my observations he has issues and I have a feeling he will have some run-ins with the law as well.

It's decision time for the Peruvian legal system...whether Joran van der Sloot will be formally charged with murder. Reports in both Dutch and Peruvian media say the government has completed its investigation in the case. The public prosecutor must now decide whether to proceed with the case.

For almost a year it's been the kind of story where reality defies imagination.  Almost nothing is stranger than what's been happening on an almost daily basis.

Meanwhile, van der Sloot's stay in the Castro Castro prison has been a media circus.  There are reports of multiple marriage proposals from around the world.  He was involved in a series of controversial photographs including an international hitman and an American also accused of killing a Peruvian woman.  Prison officials have been reprimanded for irregularities involving a string of Dutch television interviews including one where Natalee's mother Beth Holloway confronted van der Sloot in the warden's office while hidden cameras rolled.  He's been accused of getting favorable treatment, buying drugs from guards and attempting escape.

So what's next?  Beth Holloway is reportedly working on a movie and a reality series while the world waits on the Peruvian legal system.

Peruvian prosecutors say the crime Joran van der Sloot is accused of was particularly cruel and have asked for a 30 year prison sentence if convicted.

The Dutch newspaper de Telegraaf says their source is van der Sloot's lawyer, Max Altez.

The public prosecution department in Lima has told Van der Sloot's lawyer he will press for 30 years, the Telegraaf reports. The investigation into the murder of Stephany Flores has now been completed, the paper said.

The maximum sentence for murder in Peru is 20 years, but this can be increased for particularly savage crimes. Van der Sloot is also accused of stealing the young woman´s money, laptop and car, allowing prosecutors to aim for 30 years.
