It has been snowing all day here as well.  I have been making sure that nothing exploded in the kitchen or burned the house down so have yet to go shovel.  I am now hoping that it snows enough that my neighbour will come dig me out when he does his drive.

I remember when I was a kid, all the neighborhood boys went around house to house and asked the people if they wanted their walks shoveled. They made money doing this. Was a good thing when it snowed for these boys. I have never seen that happen in my adult life.

Have kids changed? Do they still do that anywhere?

Just curious.

Brandi I remember a a kid my brother and I would cut the neighborhood lawns to make money. Now a days you can't get a teenager out of the house to do anything. Mom and Dad hand out the money and the kids sit on their behinds. We always had chores to do and if you didn't get it done...you got no allowance. Course allowance back then was 50 cent to a dollar.

Probably so, darla.

I used to get 50¢ allowance a week also!

Cost 35¢ to get into the movies, 10¢ for popcorn and a nickel left over! Sometimes if I was really hungry I got a box of wild cherry hard candies for that nickel.  hahaha

I also used to babysit and charged 50¢ an hour.

Guess we are getting old, eh, darla?  lol

Good night everyone, need to go lay down and watch tv, I think I over did it for the day, and didn't listen to my body. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time. See everyone in the morning.

Nite monkeys. Josef and I am going to bed. Hope you all have a good evening. I have decided I need lasick or whatever it is called. I can't see the TV or the computer. Plus my glasses freeze to my face in the cold.

Anyways have a great evening and sleep well. See y'all in the morning.

Dude! You guys got allowances? (said she who has given up on writing papers for the night). We never got an allowance...and we pretty much ran the house for our mom. There were 7 of us kids, I was the oldest girl, so I was the "straw boss". It was my job to do the ironing, most of the cooking, and a lot of the laundry (dryer? we didn't need no stinking dryer, we hung them outside. Same with a dishwasher...I only had a dishwasher for one year, when I was 10, and Dad only let us use it on Christmas). I was also responsible for all the other kids getting their chores done..if their chores weren't done, I was the one who was punished. I think Mumsie was training me to be a drill Sargent!

If we wanted LemonUp Shampoo, or Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific, we had to buy it out of babysitting money (25 cents an hour). If we wanted cold cereal, again out of the babysitting money. And real milk, too. The rest of the time we drank powdered (Ah swear, as God is my witness, Ah will keep it on hand for baking and emergencies, but Ah will never drink it again!) milk.

And yes, we did go around the neighborhood and offer to shovel after storms. If we worked as a crew, of course there'd be a dispute over who got how much, as my one brother is very...ah...chintzy, shall we say? He like to supervise, and then take the biggest cut!

But, on the plus side: Gas was 25 cents a gallon, my boyfriend had a HAWT!!! Camaro, a CJ5 Jeep, and I owned a horse. It was only a 2 mile walk to his farm, where the horse and the best make-out spots were. And no cell phones for Mommie Dearest to track me down!

Good night JSM and Josef!

We got allowances, plus we did odd jobs and I babysat mostly for my friend who passed away last week. Thought I was rich when I got $3.00 for babysitting for 4 hours.
But man you could buy all kinds of stuff with $3.00. Gas was 18 cent a gallon , movie was 15 cent . I remember when Mountain Dews and Frito's came out. Could get both for 11 cents. And a dime would buy a bag full of candy.

Yup! I felt rich when I got $1.50 from babysitting. Cost about that much for batteries for my transistor radio! And I had to pay for those. I also remember when Mountain Dew and Frito's came out. I remember Frito's being in a nickel bag.

This is exactly what my radio looked like! heh

I listened to it under my pillow at night when I was supposed to be sleeping. Those triangles in the dial denote civil defense stations to tune to in an emergency.

Cool!

My grandmother bought them for us three children. My sis got one like mine, our brother got a black one just like it.

One year I took out some stuffing from my panda bear and stuck the radio in its belly. Took it to Girl Scout camp for two weeks. We were not allowed to take radios. LOL No one ever knew! Guess I have been a bit of a rebel for a long time. LOL

I was impressed as well.  No baking for the day as did not want my gas stove going boom with any fumes we created.  Tomorrow I guess I am baking overtime as my cookie jar looks pretty sad right now.
