good.  the past months have been up and down.  daddycrazy got a better job, we found out we could buy a house, looked and made offers and then my POS car (the one with no engine fan and started with a screwdriver) blew its engine so the house cash went to a car so...well we are not at square one but a little set back.  It Could Be Worse.

Hi Monkeys - I got here late tonight and even later after having to catch up - busy busy monkeys today although I am not surprised with all the bad weather for a lot of you.  Brandi your pictures of the snow are beautiful. Sassy I keep missing you - I havent been on with you in a while - I hope you are staying holed up and enjoyed your vegetable beef soup that sounds wonderful maybe I will catch you tomorrow.  To the rest of you wonderful monkeys I hope you are all staying warm and cozy.

It might appear that I am here...but really I'm in the kitchen, baking cinnamon rolls. They are gifts for DH's family tomorrow. He wanted to help (WTF? Does he think I have cancer or sumthin' and need help?????) so badly, but baking cinnamon rolls is a solitary activity. It's basically making sweet bread dough, then rolling it out, slathering it with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar, then slicing the rolls up. So, I had to let him decorate them with sugar frosting and colored sugar. He was very proud of himself (tomorrow I will count how many times he says he helped and report to you!) and he did a good job. The most important part of baking the rolls is the frosting of said rolls. All surfaces must be covered, and he gets that.

Oh, darn. I just counted pans and subtracted gifts needed. Looks like DH and I will have us a nice midnight snack!! ::snowmanlaugh::

Mama, glad to hear things are ok with you and yours. Too bad about the house, but that will come in time. Got all of Baby's Christmas shopping done?

Has anyone else hear Bob Dylan's  Christmas album? I think I heard a song from it the other night, if so, the vocals were enhanced. I mean, I could understand every word! gonna finally put the Christmas tree up today! late for us this year...everything else is done except for that...Hope to watch "the Hangover" later today...bought it yesterday...also was able to get all of my zhu zhu pet accessories for the 3 grand daughters...they will be so excited...I started out buying a zhu zhu by chance at CVS Pharmacy, then I found a second one on EBAY...then I was able to pick up 4 more of them so they each will get 2 of the varmints...then after finding the zhu zhus, I couldn't find any accessories! went on ebay, paid too much for the dang thing that I got..then luckily yesterday, went into Walmart and they had just gotten a shipment in so I bought the rest there...Stick a fork in me! I am so done!!!

THE HAGUE, Netherlands —  A teenage Dutch sailor who made headlines when she went to court to fight for the right to sail solo around the world has gone missing, police said Sunday.

Laura Dekker's boat, Guppy, is still moored at its usual berth and the 14-year-old appears to have left her father's home on her own, Utrecht police spokesman Bernhard Jens told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

"We do not believe this is a crime," Jens said.

Utrecht District Court refused in October to let Dekker embark on her attempt to become the youngest person to sail alone around the world, and placed her under the supervision of child care authorities.

Jens said Dutch authorities have alerted neighboring countries to monitor airports.

"That happens with missing minors — if she is seen somewhere else or tries to leave via an airport or something like that, authorities know we are looking for her," he said.

Dekker has joint Dutch and New Zealand citizenship because she was born on a yacht in New Zealand waters. She said earlier this year she might try to go there if Dutch authorities refused to let her sail.

Jens would not comment on a report in Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant that Dekker withdrew $5,000 from her bank account a few days ago.  ::MonkeyEek::

Woke up late, stayed up too late. I decided to go to 12 o'clock Mass instead of 11, then my brother is coming to pick me up at 1:30 to go to my Dad's house. I should be home by 1:30 because this church's masses are quick!  ::MonkeyDevil::

Darla - the pic of Ginger .. She's sooooooooo adorable!  Neiko is a black n tan doxie too, and looked a lot like that when a baby.   He was 'supposed' to be a mini, his mama is 7 lbs, papa is 9 lbs, but Neiko kept growing and growing and...  ::MonkeyHaHa::  Turns out he is a throwback to a standard-size grandparent.   Vet says that happens with minis sometimes.  He last weighed in at a hefty 35 lbs and still on a doggie diet.   His poor mama would not recognize him!  lol 

Hope you take lots of pics of Ginger!!  How fun for your grandkids for Christmas!  It's fun to watch pups grow and look back at the baby pics years later.  Just like with kids, you can still see their little baby face expressions at times, even in the adult body.  Hope you get a doxie of your own someday!  I've had doxies all my life, they are IMO the best!  (well ok I am kinda partial to my furry grandkid, a pure white Husky.  Am teaching him to say 'I love you', and so far all it sounds like is 'shut up'... lol)   

One thing some may not know is that long-haired doxies seem to be more mellow than smooth-haired and wire-haired.  Smooths seem to be the most opinionated, sassy and stubborn LOL  <gotta love em!>  with wires somewhere in the middle.  Choose accordingly when you get ready to get one of your own. 

Folks look at Neiko and say.. 'what kind of dog is that?????????'  And I'm like ... huh???  A weiner dog!  They are so used to seeing the little cute minis they forget what a standard size looks like!  LOL  Still 2 ft long and 1/2 dog tall.   ::MonkeyHaHa::

I saw the prettiest wired haired doxie at Petsmart up for adoption yesterday. She is being treated for heartworms and didn't feel good. I just wanted to take her home, but Josef wouldn't tolerate it.

Growing up we had a standard doxie, named Gretchen, she was mellow. Heidi was a black and brown miniature doxie, she wasn't so mellow, very smart dogs. But neither of ours were good with children, me yes, but no other kids.  ::MonkeyEek::

Please please please put your van seats back in the van!  One thing the manufacturers will never tell van owners <ahead of time> is IF they take the van seats out of the back, and IF they get rear-ended, that van will go airborne and the driver seat will flip backwards flat on the floor behind.  This happened to my mid-son, that's when we found out.  Manufacturer just went  :smt102  "sorry, thought you knew".

It's  a small world isn't it. The doxie we had when the kids were growing up was name Gretchen. She was black and tan and full size. She was a big ole baby too. But if you left her alone she would destroy the house. She hated to be alone. I worked night shift and the kids were old enough to stay by themselves at night, They left for school at 7:45 and I got home at 8:45 and she would have the trash torn out. the toilet paper all unrolled and all over the house. Anything was fair game.

Yeah, it's not easy!  Harder yet putting them back in, which is why many just get left out and end up being used as seating elsewhere.  A van dealer can put em back in, for a fee of course.   Figures, eh?  ::santawink::

Long time ago we lived by this guy that obsessed with his car, every two weeks the front seats came out so he could clean the car and seats, I use to watch him in amazement  ::MonkeyEek::

Yeah he was taken out on a backboard, but at least not hurt badly or permanently.   Actually both front seats flipped back flat, so a friend of his in the passenger seat was also taken out on a backboard.  Both doing fine.  Van was totalled from being rear-ended.  But when the seats flipped backwards onto the floor, son driving couldn't see, had no control over the van any longer, couldn't reach the pedals or the steering wheel.  He was seat-belted into the seat on the floor.  The van, having gone airborne and then out of control, crashed into the residence next door.  It was doubly totalled in the back and then in front, and my insurance co was not happy campers.  They went after the other driver <uninsured of course>  and the van manufacturer as well.  Who wouldn't do a van recall, saying it is the owners responsibility not to remove the seats in the first place.   Oh well.. a lesson learned.  Just am glad my son and friend escaped with their lives.  And next door neighbor got some free remodeling and a paint job.  lol

Was Gretchen a long-haired?  I haven't met many mellow smooth-haireds.  lol  I had one named Samson and my bff while growing up had one named TootsieRoll.  Funny how some doxies like kids, some don't.  Neiko loves kids.  The only thing in the world he doesn't like much are teeny tiny dogs with shrill yaps who never stand still.  He looks at them like WTH is that?  lol
   

Growing up, we had a black/tan female doxie we named Schnitzie and after her, we got a red long hair male for Christmas (this was back in the mid 60's) and he was named Rudy (for Rudolf). They were both great pets, but a bit high strung. The very best dogs I have ever personally owned have been mixed breeds. They have been the most even tempered. Even Brandi is a mix. Golden Retriever and something.

That's just been my experience.

Speaking of pumpkin spice ... sister sent us a Christmas gift (it was shipped directly from us from the store) and said Open Immediately. Inside was an assortment of English muffins and toppings. Some of the flavors were pumpkin spice (absolutely wonderful!) maple almond, sour dough and cinnamon raisin. They were from Wolferman's ... I recommend them! www.wolfermans.com

What IS it about toilet paper and kleenex?   ::MonkeyEek::  That would be a good day for Neiko too!  That and de-stuffing anything with stuffing inside.  Like pillows and toys.  I finally gave in and let him have empty toilet paper rolls to play with, and he leaves my couch cushions alone.   ::snowmanlaugh::

 

Gretchen was a smooth-haired. Neither dogs liked other dogs. When my parents had guests over, Heidi had to go in her little house full of blankets and toys in the basement, because they couldn't take a chance of Heidi biting someone  ::MonkeyEek::

That sounds great Brandi, and delicious  ::DancingSantaMonkey1:: I don't know what it is with toilet paper and tissues, but I know Zoe did her fair share of taking eyes and noses off of stuffed animals  ::MonkeyEek:: Our Great Dane use to like to rip magazines, we came home once to them shredded on the floor, so we had to hide magazines from her, my dad use to call her a frustrated librarian.  ::MonkeyTongue::

That's a bit over the top, IMO!   And every two weeks?  Dang! 

Need someone like that to take care of my car!  Heck, even once a year would be an improvement.   ::ElfMonkey::


I read somewhere that during job interviews, sometimes another employee is outside peeking into the prospective employees car, to get an idea of how organized etc that person is.  <gulp>   ::MonkeyEek::

 

The man was crazy, he had his three boys every other weekend, and they would sit on chairs and watch their dad clean his car. He really needed to clean our car, we keep it clean, but detailing, not so much  ::MonkeyEek::

Well I have to cut my hair, which should have been done last weekend, but I made and excuse, so I didn't wash my hair this morning, to make me go get it cut, and then to the store.  ::hohohosanta:: See you all later.

Hubby is outside getting cars perfectly cleared for driving now and getting a path to the street clear. There is one path plowed now down the middle of the street so people can drive out (we are on a hill) once they clear a path to the road. LOL

He has to go to work tomorrow. Looks like Interstates are pretty good from the cams I have been watching. I have a feeling we may venture out today for a short look-see. I have never driven our all-wheel drive Mountaineer in the snow yet! Have to give it a test drive ;-) He has worked very hard the last two days shoveling. Only one other person in our neighborhood has been able to get out so far.

We did not get the extra 12" they were calling for yesterday. Just a couple of inches more. I am going to take some pictures of our deck. It's incredible. The chairs are full and overflowing with snow. Hard to tell there is a chair underneath it all. LOL

Schnitzie was short for Schnitzelfritz von *something* LOL She was my first family dog and I really loved her. She was bred and had two litters. I was quite young. She got lose and out to the road and run over the day before I came home from a two-week stint at Girl Scout camp! I had missed her a lot at camp too.

I'm so sorry about what happened to Schnitzie   ::MonkeyAngel::                        ::MonkeyEek:: ::MonkeyEek:: I decided to go to the hair cutting place where my husband and daughter goes, instead of the one I usually go to. I noticed they hadn't opened yet, and was playing around in my purse, when I heard a woman in a white car screaming into her cell phone. I got out of the car and heard her say, well I can't write here what I heard her say, and then she got out and was screaming about you already have spent 3 thousand dollars on gambling. I looked over to her, because I then thought she was talking to me. And wouldn't you know it, I walked up to the hair place, and the same woman opened the door to the place, much to my dismay. I thought, what do I do know,leave or walk into the Little Shop of Horrors with her  ::MonkeyEek:: I went in. Nobody else came in, it was just her and me. I kept praying she wasn't going to go off, and I would leave with part of my ear missing or worse. After I left, I came home and rewashed my hair, and she actually did a good job  ::MonkeyEek:: I'm afraid to even venture to the stores now.

Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ.

She was 32.

A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire Department tells TMZ.

We're told Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Murphy starred in such films as "Clueless," "8 Mile," and "Don't Say a Word."  ::MonkeyEek::  ::MonkeyNoNo::

About doggies that like to get into paper, stuffed pillows and such...

My brothers two pugs, Lilly and Daisy would get into things when he and his wife weren't home.  Lilly became sick, and so went a trip to the vet.  It's a good thing they got her in quickly.  Lilly had a blockage, and required emergency surgery.  The vet found the stuffings from pillows, lots of potpourri (SIL used to have in around in bowls), a push pin (!) and etc.  Now when my brother and SIL leave the house, they put the pugs in their kennel or put them in the kitchen with baby gate up and the kitchen has been pug proofed.  I think it was hard for my brother and SIL to put them up at first, because their pugs are their kids, but it was such a close call, they decided to do it.  The pugs have adapted.   ::MonkeyAngel:: 

Poor Lilly, my parents had to do that with both doxies when they weren't home, and when they took Heidi in the backyard they had to watch her every movement because she had pica and would eat bizarre things  ::MonkeyEek:: Better to be safe then sorry. I spent quite a bit of money on an emergency trip to the vet when Zoe was a pup. I had been sewing and put the thread and needle on the dresser, when I came back the needle was gone. I searched all over the floor, and came to the conclusion that she must have somehow got the needle off the dresser. So we took her, they did xrays and there was no needle. After we got home I searched again all over the bedroom, and sure enough there it was on the carpet  ::MonkeyEek::

Muffy, that is awful I am glad they took her to the vet in time. Josef used to pull the stuffing out of his stuffed animals and eat the animal. I read up that it could cause blockage, so I took him to the vet and begged them to pump his stomach. Thank God the vet actually did it, because he too would have ended up having the same problem Lilly had. He had two stuffed animal carcasses plus plastic pieces of squeaky toys in his belly.

I am behind and need to read back, but No Rose, Brandi, Muffy, Wyks and other dog owners I have a question.

Came home from church and Josef had drainage coming out his eye. Now it is just keeps forming, and it is greenish goopy stuff. Have any of your dogs had that before? TIA JSM

Yes and no. Drainage from her eye, but white colored goopy stuff not greenish. It always clears up, she is constantly sticking her head in bushes, so I'm guessing it is an allergy. Though once she got all crusty around the eyes, and lost hair, but the vet gave us medicine and it cleared up.

I have to go eat, the pizza is almost here, and when I get back I'll try to help more JSM if I can  ::MonkeyCool:: But I'm sure it is probably allergies, or maybe an eye infection.

Thanks No Rose, this was whitish this morning, but has turned green today. I figured it was from sticking his head in bushes as well. The doctor will look at it tomorrow. I just called them.

One of my Yorkies, "Bitsy" gets a kind of goop in her eye, but its usually whitish.  She has allergies, and the vet told me to give her half a children's chewable benadryl a day to help with that.  Bitsy wouldn't eat it though, and I had to put it in a bit of cheese slice.  (not too much cheese, it's too rich for their pancreas).  I use pill pockets if I get to Petsmart or Petco.  Sometimes the vet will have them too. 

JSM gently pull back and look at the area around Josef's eye.  It should look white.  If it's reddish or pinkish, he probably has an infection.  My vet gives Bitsy Neo-Poly-Dex drops for her eyes, when her allergies are high and her eyes get irritated.

JSM, you can also wipe Joef's eyes clean.  Use boiled water that has been cooled, and dip a clean cotton pad or kleenex and gently wipe across his eyes, with them closed, of course.  Use a clean pad for each eye.  Never use same pad on both eyes.  It can contaminate. 

I wonder if Josef may have scratched his eye?  If so, they can put drops in it and illuminate and see if it's scratched.  But first of all, since it's Sunday night, I would try gently cleaning his eyes. 

Thank You so much Muffy. His eye isn't red and what was concerning me is that if it were allergies, he would be having this in both eyes. I have been wiping it, but it is still oozing. I will try the benadryl. His vet was leaving at 7 tonight and I didn't have time to get him there before he left.

Thanks again  ::MonkeyAngel::. He was poking into bushes today so I think maybe that is what it was from, but it has never been this color and that is what concerned me.

Looks wonderful, it really does, never seen such an interesting cake like that before. The vet will maybe give you something for Josef's eyes, hopefully not eye drops, imagine putting eye drops in a dog's eyes  ::MonkeyEek:: that would not work well with Zoe, even the cream I had to put on around her eyes, she freaked out.

JSM  I have done what Muffy said but added a 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the water. Not for my dogs but for my cats. When their eyes got all yucky like that.  I did it three or four times a day for a couple days and it helped. Glad you are taking Josef to the vet in the morning.  The popcorn cake looks good.

Sorry to quote myself but that would be for each cup of water 1/4 teasppon of salt.

Greeneyes, thanks I may try that next. Just gave him a benadryl and hopefully that will work. He wasn't too happy about it, but I have been doing what Muffy said about not contaminating the other eye. Poor baby usually has Marty Feldman eyes, today one is bugged out and the other is squinty. He looks like this ;)

Thank No Rose, I had another dog named Buddy that got an eye infection and I had no problems putting drops in his eyes, any kind of human contact didn't bother him a bit. He thrived on it because he was always left out because of evil Josef. I really miss that dog, he was so sweet and gentle unless provoked by the evil one

Thanks Greeneyes. My eyes are bothering me today as well as his are. I wore makeup for the first time since skating competition and I now have itchy eyes. I hate makeup, makes my face feel like I have glue on it.

Some dogs don't mind things like that, Zoe goes crazy when she thinks ointment or something like that is coming, she runs around the dining room table, with me behind, but I always catch her  ::MonkeyTongue:: She is not a dog that likes to be pampered or touched very much. She likes to be pet, but don't think about cutting toenails, touching her feet much, and look out if she is laying there and you don't see her and accidently step on her tail, she will growl at you  ::MonkeyEek::

Joe is exactly like Zoe, he won't take medicine in cheese or a pill pocket anymore, I have to shove it down his throat. He doesn't mind being petted, but if I mess with his feet or blow on his ears he gets pizzed. I like to do it just to get a reaction from him. It is very funny sometimes. I would never think about cutting his nails or giving him a bath, that is why God gave me the girls at daycare to do that. No way no how would I even try to do that myself.

Hi cookie, I usually can't step on Joe's tail because he is always up mine.

I will hopefully get the recipe for the cake tomorrow. It is very good, like a rice krispy treat made of popcorn, peanuts and m&ms.  ::MonkeyTongue::

The vet gave us pill pockets, but Zoe has irritable bowel and I was afraid that would upset her stomach. Peanut butter is a life saver, I swear you could put anything in peanut butter and she will eat it. JSM my dad use to have to put a pill down both of our doxie's throat like that, that was the only way pills could be given to them. They would spit out the pill no matter how you disguised it.

my cat used to spit out pills no matter what too...we had to put the pill in her mouth and massage her throat till the pill went down while holding her mouth shut...not fun, but at least she was declawed!

also had to put one of our dogs down in July...it was a rough 2009 for losing pets at our house...
our last dog is 12...We are thinking that we won't get another pet once he is gone..too hard to put them down...but then, it might get sortof lonesome without them around too...sigh...guess we will just wait to see how we feel once it happens...

Hi Monkeys - I am officially 100% ready for Christmas - everything is wrapped and under the tree, cards are done and I got a head start with snacks made and in the freezer. Sloppy joes are made for work tomorrow and I dressed up my bottle of wine for the wine exchange. I have tomorrow and half of Tuesday left of work until I am on vacation for a whopping 12 days....Life is good.   ::DancingSantaMonkey1::

I'm sorry to hear that Cookie you certainly have had a rough year with pets - it hurts so bad to loose them or have to put them down - we humanize our pets to the point that when they die a part of us does too.  We lost our German Shepherd in April and it was hell.  ::MonkeyAngel::

Murphy Sick and Vomiting Just Before She Died

Brittany MurphyBrittany Murphy was very ill in the hours before she went into cardiac arrest and died, sources tell TMZ.

We're told Murphy was taking prescription meds for flu-like symptoms she had been experiencing for several days. We're told Murphy began vomiting early Sunday morning and told family members she was feeling very ill.

Sources say various prescriptions were found in the home -- written for Brittany Murphy, husband Simon Monjack, and Brittany's mom. One source says, "There were a lot ... a lot of prescriptions in the house."

Law enforcement sources tell us Murphy collapsed in the bathroom and somehow ended up in the shower ... there was, we're told, a significant amount of vomit in the immediate area.

We're also told authorities did not find illegal drugs in the house, but Murphy was definitely taking various prescription meds.

Sources say her condition and the meds could have triggered a heart attack, but it's too early to know. An autopsy will be performed Monday or Tuesday. We reported earlier Monjack did not want an autopsy but ultimately it's the Coroner's call.

Brittany MurphyAs we first reported, Brittany Murphy's mother told paramedics her daughter suffered from diabetes. We're told it was type 2 diabetes and people involved in the case doubt her condition caused her death.  ::MonkeyNoNo:: What a shame, I really liked her in Clueless and the voice of Luanne in King Of The Hill.

I asked for those electric curlers when I was a teen for Christmas one year. I got them, I shouldn't have. I had really long hair, and got them stuck in my hair, my mom had to help get them out of my hair. Could be why my hair is like Jamie Lee Curtis, oh, you have your hair cut like Jamie Lee Curtis, people will say to me, and I do, right down to the grey just like her. If she can go grey, so can I  ::MonkeyTongue::

Vomiting is a symptom of a heart attack. I vomited and had cold sweats before I had mine. The only place I really hurt was my left hand and couldn't get enough air.

It was delicious No Rose. My BIL is a really good cook. He always cooks Sunday Dinner while my sister goes to church.We sat and watched old home movies of Christmases past. It was so fun to watch when my kids were little and then the grandbabies coming along. My BIL has taken all the old vhs tapes and put them on CD's. So wonderful to hear my dad and my brother's voices and see their faces again. My dad has been gone 22 yrs and my brother 6 yrs.

No Rose I am going to try to make white chocolate star  lollipops. I saw them in a Southern living magazine. I will post a pic if they turn out looking like they are suppose to. HeHe. I have to wait a while to start, one of my morning meds make my hands shake for about an hour.But I do have some of the lollipop molds from Wilton's. I use to do alot of them and cakes also til arthritis got so bad. 

I have a grand daughter that will be 8 in Jan. Talk about a Drama Queen. She can be a little girl one day and 40 yrs old the next She is a girly girl one minute and on the floor wrestling with her brother the next.

How wonderful and lucky to have all the past Christmases preserved like that  ::MonkeyAngel:: White chocolate star lollipops sound good, would like to see a pic of those. I'm so sorry about the arthritis and your hands shaking from the meds. My mom and grandma had arthritis very bad. I have it literally on one half of my body. My whole right side has it, why my left side doesn't I would not know. On xrays my lower back shows arthritis along with other issues. I figure it was passed to me from mom and grandma.

You got that right I wanted to put my daughter in a closet and keep her there until she was 18 arggggg those tween years were testy but I love her to pieces even though at 23 she still has her moments  ::MonkeyHaHa::

What a shame to lose some one so young. Your right nrcg she had an eating disorder and if they prove it is what triggered the heart attack I pray others will come to realize this you have to be skinning is for the birds. My sis do to health reasons lost so much weight that her body started to shut down. She made it and works really hard to keep her weight up. We rejoice over ever ounce she gains.

My husband loved it I froze the left overs - it made enough for several meals. Nummmmm

That's wonderful that she works hard to keep her weight up, it is awful what lose of weight/eating disorders can do to one's body. Karen Carpenter was only a year older then Brittany when she died from eating disorders.

Do you need some of these Carrie?  Oh what it is to be young again.  I am glad you had a good time.

Wow, even when I was young I couldn't hold my liquor at all. I would always be the one sick and crying and upset. I was never a happy drinker, maybe for a tiny while, and then that was it.

Brittany Murphy Autopsy Underway

Brittany MurphyTMZ has learned the L.A. County Coroner is currently conducting an autopsy on Brittany Murphy, despite the wishes of her husband Simon Monjack.

As TMZ reported, she was feeling ill before she died.

We're told Brittany had taken prescription drugs before she died -- we're also told authorities discovered a large quantity of prescription drugs at her house after she died.

  ::MonkeyNoNo::  Like her husband was going to stop an autopsy, would never have happened under the circumstances.

For all of you that are snowed in and those who are not I posted a yummy cake recipe in the Christmas recipe thread. Hope you enjoy it. It is really simple and so good on a cold day!

NoRose you crack me up with all of your mishap stories lol I could name a few of my own. Like turning my hair green with hair color. lol. Do NOT ever buy a haircolor with ash in the name.

I will go check that out  ::DancingSantaMonkey1:: I promise that I won't buy any haircolor with ash in the name  ::MonkeyEek:: I gave up with coloring my hair, my husband use to do it for me, because there was no way with my hair beauty abilities that I would have ever attempted it. No matter what dye, gray hair still came through, and it always looked artificial on me. Besides I worked awfully hard for the gray hair, every last one of them, and I'm keeping them.

I have earned all of my gray hairs also lol. and I got a bunch of them. But I do put some color on it as my natural hair color is a dish water blonde yuk.

With the arthritis I got the better deal than my sister. Mine is osteo and hers is Rheumatoid. She takes  Remicade infusions every six weeks . Arthritis is hereditary. Her poor feet are awful.

I don't know NoRose, but I ended up putting about 4 different colors on it in one day. Surprised I had any hair left it is so thin and fine to start with. No one likes to cut my hair as it is so fine, every scissor mark shows. I finally found a girl that does it with a razor and it does fine. Just always straight as a board with no lift to it.

 Rheumatoid arthritis is horrible, the way it cripples up the fingers. Why is it that some of us inherit all the bad things that our family has had? I'm waiting for my bladder to go, my mom and grandma both had some kind of surgery because of lack of bladder control.

Thats funny, because i used to dye my step sisters hair and we used an ash color and it turned the ugliest color!!! So we never use that color!!! i do my lil sisters but used blonde for highlights and dye her hair a slightly darke color, i used to cut it to and used to cut my own hair.

Greeneyes, mine looked like grass lol. No orange, just pure green.

I have heard of people's hair turning green from dye before  ::MonkeyEek:: The girls I go to usually use a razor and scissors on my hair. My hair was always very straight and didn't have any body, now my hair does hold some body, I can't figure that out  ::MonkeyEek:: And it isn't as thin as before.

The bladder control problems just come from old age Rose. Lol. You know the time when everything goes south on you. I had mine tacked up when I had my Hysterectomy but it has fallen again. And when the urge hits I have to run to make it in time.

My mom had hers tacked up and it also had fallen, it was awful, and I was so scared. That was about ten years ago. I went to the doctor and had a gynocological exam, and told him my fears of that happening to me. He says everything in there looks like a 16 year old  ::MonkeyEek:: I thought to myself, too bad the rest of me doesn't look like a 16 year old  ::MonkeyTongue::

Isn't getting old fun. ::santawink:: I had the same thing and it lasted about three years. I know where every rest room is at all the stores.  ::snowmanlaugh::

I bought a bag of Poise pads when I went to the beach two weeks ago, cause I was in strange territory and didn't know where all the restrooms were. But if I know I am going to be going somewhere and be away from home most of the day, I skip the lasix in the morning.

MIP is a relatively new crime. Prior to about 1990, all minors were considered to be "in possession" if it was after 9 pm in my little town. There wasn't anything else to do! And since we were all town kids at the time, there wasn't too much driving going on. And, we only had one cop who came to town once a week. So, we were "possessed" regularly. However, John Law soon lost his sense of humor (there was that whole phone booth tipped over and outhouse dragged thru town and parked in the only big intersection we had incident), and they made it a crime to be drunk under 18. By that time, I WAS 18, so I didn't care!!  ::hohohosanta:: ::hohohosanta:: ::hohohosanta::

Did you know that ringing the doorbell and running away is now called "disturbing the peace"? As is hiding behind the bushes and yowling like a coyote.

Also, doing donuts in someone's yard is "malicious destruction of property". Cutting down a Christmas tree from someone else's property, same thing. Pouring oil on the road and squealing out so your tires squeal, same thing.

Having a couple of toddies and riding the golf cart to your friends house around the corner...."drunk driving".

Driving an Army deuce and a half thru town backwards...."reckless driving". Same thing for driving the parent's station wagon thru town in reverse on Christmas Eve. (Stupid cop, it wasn't his night to be in town!!)

All that being said, it's a wonder I'm not doing life in the big house for just "having fun"! ::snowmanlaugh:: ::snowmanlaugh::

Yep a very small town NoRose one grocery store and a 5 and dime that was about it. Those were the days.  ::ElfMonkey::

Oh back in my day we would call the cafe's and grills here in town and order maybe 15 hamburgers and 15 orders of fries and never go get them. We had to small mom and pop grills here and they had curb hops. One middle age man here in town was the car hop. He was mentally handicapped, and a car full of us girls pulled in and ordered cokes and pepsi on ice and one of our friends smoked and asked for a pack of Silver Thin cigarettes. That was way back in the 60's. Here comes John out with all the drinks and a pack of Silva Thins condoms . We all cracked up. Can you just imagine a bunch of 15 yr olds buying condoms back in that day.

We would call the stores and ask If they had Prince Albert ( tobacco ) in the can. If they said yes we would tell they beter let him out before he smothered. Then hang up. Good thing they couldn't trace calls back then and no caller ID. We would all tell our parents we were spending the night at a certain friends house out in the country ,who had no phone, she would tell her parents she was staying with one of us and we would stay out all night. Never did anything bad, just riding and having fun. We use to cruise towen on weekend nights and Sunday afternoons. My dad would tell me to park the car and not put to many miles on it. My boyfriend worked at a gas station , so I would go by and he would unhook the odometer, then when I got ready to go home he would hook it back up. Never put more than 5-10 miles on the car. lol

I am good, went to run some errands at lunch took me 2 hrs!!!! traffic was backed up atleast a mile from each light!! not to mention trying to find parking, and the lines inside!!!! and now i gotta exchange one thing i bought and return the other!!

But suprisingly im in a good mood now that im back :)

My dad was quite the trouble maker when he was young, my mom never got into any trouble she would have been afraid to. I was a mix of the two of them, leaning more towards my dad. All I know is, I'm thankful I never ruined my dad's car, came close a few times, he would not have been to happy about that.

I was laughing and told my husband this, and he goes, come on you never tried that before, him and his friends use to do that also. And then proceeded to tell me the story how one night they tried to take the giant Colonel Sanders statue that use to be in front of KFC  ::MonkeyEek:: ::MonkeyEek::

IN one of the small towns we lived in, you had to call the operator and have her connect you to the party you wished to speak to. So, no prank calls, as Clara knew who was calling who (and I swear she listened in on our phone calls!).

My grandparents had a party line, until all the other partyers complained to Ma Bell. Seems my gramma's afternoon entertainment was listening in on Aunt Anna's phone calls. Sometimes, just to be a brat, I'd make noise in the back ground so she'd get busted! Eventually, the phone company gave in and gave Gramma and Gramps a private line!  ::DancingSantaMonkey1::

I wish I was able to be here today, work is crazy with one person being out. It s*cks that when I am out nobody can do my job but when someone else is out I have to do theirs and mine. I miss my monkeys when I have to work hard.  ::MonkeyWaa::

We put a toilet on the top of the flag pole at school one Halloween and we toilet papered everything in town. I was in the high school band and we use to charter Greyhound buses to go to football games that were way off. We put oranges in the toilet one time and you know they are filled with chemicals, that fool thing started blowing smoke everywhere....needless to say the bus had to stop and get all of us off to find out where the smoke was coming from.

  ::DancingSantaMonkey1:: I love it, it was entertaining to listen to the calls. Selma Schmiling was the neighbor up the street that was on our party line, that woman never shut up, and she would never catch on that I would be listening, because she would never come up for air, it was constant gabbing.

Really really tired. so tired that walking up the stairs makes my legs scream. But that didn't stop me from refinishing a dolly highchair (from the 50's) and a child's piano (from the 60's) for my granddaughter today. I was going to do the reuposterly for the high chair tonight, but I think I'm just gonna sit in the chair and try to finish a couple of knitted scarves. Darn DH, he gets all his projects done early, and I wait till the last minute! ::santawink::

Hey guys, I have a OCD neighbor across the street. She rides a broom if you know what I mean? Well she is in her 70's and hateful as they come. Think Cindy Anthony but about 25 yrs older. Well She is very prejudice and a black family moved in next door to me. Really nice people. Well their kids go to school with my grandkids and when they come over they all play together. Well Miss Betty Jean calls my landlord and he also owned the house next door and sold it to the black family.Said he needed to come down here and get on us because the kids were throwing rocks in her yard. They didn't do it. Cars going up and down the road throw the rocks in the yard because I get them also. She really got nasty with the kids if they even looked across the street. So me being kid friendly I went to Walmarts and bought a 40 lb bag of river rocks. My dad was an ace shooter with a sling shot. I inherited  some of his talent. Back in the summer when I was stressed I would get me a bucket of rocks and sit on my front porch and shoot them over in her yard at night. Talk about the best stress relief in the world.

She use to come over here about everyday but has not been over here since June. She got on the kids one night when we were having a family gathering about being on the dirt road with their bikes. It is a county maintained road and anyone can drive on  it. Her driveway turns off the little dirt road. My son the cop went over and told her that she didn't own the road and she had better not say another word to the kids. She is so OCD that she rakes up all the acorns and picks them up and puts them in garbage bags. She tends to everyone in towns business

Always has to be one of those in the neighborhood, good, it sounds like your son scared her.

Darla, we had a neighbor like that before I moved. The guy next door was from El Salvador and he called her the spider lady because she wore black leggings and black shirts all the time. She was meticulous about her yard (she lived in a duplex) one day she mowed the guy's grass that lived in the same duplex. Pizzed him off, so when the grass grew a bit he lowered the lawnmower blade the lowest it would go and shaved a stripe down the middle of the property. She never messed with his side of the yard again. She called code enforcement on me all the time because of my dogs.  ::MonkeyMad:: Bitter old hag. Plus she would go steal daffodil bulbs out of other people's yards early early in the morning, then plant them in her yard.  ::MonkeyNoNo::

She was a piece of work. Her ex owned the duplex and half the rental houses on the street. She would call code enforcement on anything that pizzed her off as long as her ex didn't own the property. She probably drank a gallon of whisky each night and would be laid up in her driveway. She had a garage sale one time and all she was selling was feather boas and sequined outfits. At first I thought she had a cross dresser living with her.

Wow, I know when I go to garage sales, I always look for feathered boas and sequined outfits  ::MonkeyTongue:: Maybe she had a stripper pole in her house as well  ::MonkeyEek::

When I was in HS, people told me I looked like her, I didn't know who she was, then more and more people have said it as well. I won't eat that yogurt, I heard it gives people belly aches. I love Janet Leigh, she is great. I always loved Jennifer Jones, she to me was beautiful.

We put cow poo in a bag then the bag in a shoe box and put it in the mailbox of someone we didn't like, lol. That was on a Halloween many moons ago. Hi Muffy, just got back from taking him outside. His cornea isn't scratched (good thing) but the vet didn't know what caused it. He said it wasn't a cold or infection because that would effect both eyes, so most likely either a bee stung him or he poked his eye when he was trying to find a cat in the holly bushes.  ::MonkeyAngel:: Thanks for asking, he has ointment and it still looks bad, but nothing like it did this morning. He looked like Popeye the Sailor man.  ::snowmanlaugh::

It's getting there, not as much goopy gunk coming out tonight. He has ointment that I have to put in the morning and they will do it two times while he is at school and I do it when I get home. It still looks horrible to me though. He acts like nothing is wrong though. If I hadn't noticed the goop in his eye yesterday, I wouldn't have thought anything was wrong with him.  I think I learned my lesson as a kid, my parents told us NEVER EVER go by this one guy's apartment door. I was probably six at the time, was dared to knock on his door and didn't do it. My parents found out that I walked up to his door and I got the whooping from H*ll. IDK if he was a child molestor or what, but now that I think about it, he probably was one and my parents didn't tell us why we couldn't go by his apartment.

Josef wouldn't blink an eye at a lizard, but a cat he would go for in a minute. I tried taking a picture of his eye, but he wouldn't let me. He is embarrased he looks so goofy.  ::MonkeyDevil::

Night monkeys, I have to try and get the one eyed Josef to bed. Bless his heart last night he couldn't see to jump on the bed and he was half on and half off and could figure out how to get on the bed. He looked like he was trying to swim. I always had this innocent look.  I was so sweet that sugar tasted sour when I was around.  One Halloween, I stole a latern off a hole in the street and someone fell in the hole.  He wasn't hurt, but he was really mad.  No body ever suspected me.  I was too sweet.

Now I'm old and don't look so innocent anymore, but people think I'm cute.  Whatever I say they think it's cute.  They don't know that underneath this old, cute exterior lurks a devious 16 year old.

I hate to admit to this because I was a grown up when we did this. My daughter was about 12 and some friend of hers had told her what they did one year. They scooped up some dog poo and wrapped it up like a present and left in on the road, like it had fallen out of a moving vehicle. Waited in the bushes and just howled as a lucky man or so he thought picked it up.
We had a dog, we had poo, we had warapping paper. So, we did it !
Put it on the road, a nicely wrapped present. Sat in the house peeking out of the drapes and someone stopped and took it in their vehicle. Less than thirty seconds later, the parcel came flying at thethe speed of light out of that car. We howled for hours ! My Dad was there, he had to have been  + 60 by then, he howled the most. Oh, we were a classy bunch. My Mum was mortifed as she truly had some class, not like us.Thanks for the laffs. I needed it tonight.

What the H?  He walks out on his family at A. at Christmas time and B. because he can't take all the sadness?  What a selfish thing to do - sure hate to tell him but the sadness lives on and on - it never goes away.  Time heals our sad hearts but the pain will always be lurking in the background - I guess he isn't cut out of the kind of cloth that is made for the long haul.  I will definitely pray for her and the family.

Yes they do. I have some carvings made from the Narwhal tusk.  It is a northern thing.

Spent the day baking yesterday and helping a friend.  Then spent last night going to 5 stores to find a tree stand as I killed ours on Sunday.  Never did find a stand.  Guess with the artificial trees stores just do not carry a large supply of stands anymore.  Torn between decorating the tree with it leaning against a wall or just saying scr@w it.

More baking to do today as well as candy making.  Kids love peanut brittle so that is on the list for the day.

Rose, why don't you just nail the tree to a stable piece of wood? Sure, it won't get water...but it should be okay like that thru the weekend at least. Better than no tree at all.

Sounds like another busy day for you.

Son finally took off for the beach today to visit his friends. It was scheduled for the weekend, but we had a pesky lil thing they call a blizzard over the weekend and it had to be postponed.

It is nice and quiet in my house today. Only thing I have to do is take neighbor to the store since his cars are buried under snow. He needs to get to the grocery store.

I have been trying to McGiver the stand back to life.  I am such a dangerous person with garden pruners.  Our stand is (was) a big bowl with 4 nylon cords coming out of the bowl evenly spaced.  You then put a chain around the trunk, hook the cords to the chain and then tighten each cord so the tree is held and to straighten it.  We got it up, I went to go prune the bottom bows, should have had my glasses on but did not, cut a cord by mistake, tree goes tip and falls.  I am going to try to find something with the same thickness of the cords to replace the one I cut through so the clamps will hold on the end.  Going to a craft store later to see what I can come up with .  If not it goes in the corner and I only have to decorate the 3rd of the tree that is not against two walls.  Just means moving furniture around again.

I just posted a veggie sidedish recipe in the food/recipe section.  It's a really good recipe for marinated green beans and peas, which is delicious with ham.  It's fairly simple to prepare, but...boy...is it good!  I've gotten many compliments on this recipe over the years.  And...best of all...it just gets better day-after-day.

I thought of that but think because a bungee cord has some elastic it may not be easy to keep it stable and or shoot the cord across the room as the other cords are tightened.

When I was a kid, my dad would hammer two boards together in an x shape then nail it to the tree trunk. I have even tied an old artificial tree to the curtain rod to keep the tree straight. lol

Northern.... Dollar Tree has a bag with about 5 different lengths of Bungie cords in it. . Maybe get the tree as straight as possible with the other three cords then hook the appropriate length of bungie cord. I am the Queen of make do with what you have lol.

That is worth a try.  If I cannot find a cord that will work at the craft store I may just buy a pack of bungee cords and duct tape and see what I can do.

One can do anything with duct tape, I hear ;-)

Do you guys have Dollar Tree stores up there or Everything for a Dollar? You will be surprised what you can find in them. I love to shop in them. I just bought the book Loving Natalee in there today for $1.00

I have all this baking and my husband is still at Walmart, with a few items, and some tin foil pans I needed. You might also try an Ace Hardware store.
