Here are some notes/cuts and pastes that I saved while researching Grand Juries. I thought maybe some of you might be interested:

The primary function of the modern grand jury is to review the evidence presented by the prosecutor and determine whether there is probable cause to return an indictment.

Unlike potential jurors in regular trials, grand jurors are not screened for biases or other improper factors.

Someone who receives a subpoena from a grand jury has three choices:  comply with the subpoena; convince a court that he or she does not have to comply with it; or refuse to comply and be held in contempt.

*If you think you shouldn't have to comply because, for example, you're a lawyer and the subpoena is asking you to testify about secrets your client confided in you, then you have to file a motion to quash (not squash) the subpoena.  Quashing the subpoena means the court declares it null and void, so you don't have to comply with it.  A court would, for example, quash a subpoena if you could show that making you comply with it would violate your constitutional rights under the First Amendment.

If you simply refuse to do what the subpoena orders you to do, like show up and testify or bring in requested documents, the prosecutor, acting on behalf of the grand jury, will ask the court to hold you in CIVIL contempt.  Unless you have a very good reason for not complying, the court will do so. CIVIL contempt is a way the court coerces you into doing what the grand jury wants you to do.  Once you're held in civil contempt, you will be locked up until you agree to comply with the subpoena or until the grand jury's term ends, whichever comes first. Once the grand jury has been dissolved, the subpoena is no longer valid and you can't be held in contempt.  Of course, a prosecutor can re-subpoena you to testify before a new grand jury.  If you refuse you can be held in civil contempt and locked up until that grand jury's term ends, which could be another year and a half.

HOWEVER, a witness who testifies falsely may be separately prosecuted for perjury. 

*Perjury - It is important that the false statement be material to the case at hand—that it COULD affect the outcome of the case. It is not considered perjury, for example, to lie about your age, unless your age is a key factor in proving the case.

*If a truthful answer to a grand jury question would even tend to incriminate you, you can invoke the privilege and refuse to answer.

**Only the grand jury, the prosecutor, the witness under examination, the court reporter and an interpreter (if one is required) may be present in the grand jury room.

In regards to George getting into the trunk.... If the smell was as bad as everyone says it was, don't you think he would have smelled it as he approached the car? 

YES

It could be that on August 24th there was no decomposition odor inside the trunk of Casey's vehicle.  It could be that Casey did not want her father to go into the trunk because he would have discovered the stolen gas cans.  It could be that it was after August 24th when Caylee was taken from a burial location near the playhouse ... a burial location where the two dogs hit on and ... moved to another location.

LEONARD PADILLA, BOUNTY HUNTER: Well, the situation is, she ran out of gas at the checking cashing store on the 26th. And there was a tremendous amount of communication on her phone on the evening of the 26th and also on the 27th, when she called her boyfriend to come pick her up, that the car had run out of gas. And it goes on into the 28th and then it stops. It just stops. No communication with hardly anybody. And the car naturally got towed off on the 30th.

So there had to be somebody giving her a hand at that time because if you`re dealing with a body in a garbage bag, it`s, like -- you know, it`s an awful thing to say, but if you talk to a coroner or somebody that`s handled cadavers, they`ll tell you it`s like having 30 pounds of stew in a garbage bag. And if you have a bone breakthrough, it`ll just literally cover the trunk of the car with fluids. So you basically have to have somebody with you to help you keep somewhat your composure and also to get it over into the dumpster.

Janet, thank you for that post.  I wonder if this could be why the dogs hit on the dumpster at the office park in Red's photographs.  Do you suppose that she tried to drain off some of the fluids so that she could handle the bag better and then dump it at a location near the dumpster as in Red's other photographs?  The fluids would certainly leave a scent for the dogs to pick up, but a search of the dump site would not be positive for any remains.

There is no question that casey is a monster for whatever did or did not happen to caylee.  The sort of monster that no one could ever imagine-does exist. In regards to her baby Caylee there aren't words- whether she killed caylee or whether it was an accident ...her behavior after the fact is horrifying to say the least. I am not defending her in fact I wish her no peaceful moment for the rest of her life for what she has done.  But as for George and Cindy (and I am sure my opinion is not popular), I believe them to be victims.  I know, i know....

After watching video of Caylee's life - it is obvious that they loved that baby girl with all of their hearts- these were private moments never meant for the public viewing but we are voyeurs and what we see is LOVE.  They are guilty of not wanting to believe that their beautiful baby girl will never be back in their arms again, never seeing her smile, dance, celebrate another birthday.....  They want to believe Casey because to believe Casey means they have hope they will see their Caylee again.  My heart truly breaks for them.  In my opinion there is no conspiracy with Casey - only blind love and deep denial.  They will have to face something very soon that will change the rest of their days on this earth.  They will have to face the loss of their beautiful granddaughter and what they thought was their daughter (only a monster remains).  We will never know what it has been like for them these past four months.  I cry for them and for others who have to face the same heartbreak.  My prayers are with them and hopefully their misery of not knowing will end soon.

I enjoyed reading your post and found your insight to be very gentle.  I wish I could be there but I need to see what comes out a bit further down the line before I'm willing to feel better about either of Caylee's grandparents.  That being said, of course I still pray for them because they are going through Hell.  Some of it is of their own making and that's what I'm having a problem with.

Thank you for your opinion.  I love when another poster has something to say that may be different than mine.  It makes me think a bit deeper to get through a situation.

That may explain where CA was for all those days, and may also explain how Caylee was put into even more vulnerable situations...

One thing I noticed is that only a handful of those websites were real sites.  Almost as though she was looking for something.

You know.. if she wanted to create her own site, she might have been thinking of possible domain names.  I have my own domain, but sometimes when you want a particular theme, or name for your site, it doesn't necessarily mean the domain name you want is available. So maybe she was seeing if there was already a particular site in existence, trying to see what was already taken (or not) for a start-up sex site?

is t picture is spianl foramina from the lower lumbar region , the holes are where the spinal nerves viens run thru it, you can even seee the facets on each side it is human bone .  The long bone is part of the clavicle probably from the left side of the body it is also human animals have chewed some of the distal end up.  Hard to say of its a young adult or a grownups bones but i dont believe its a young childs..jmo

I think she was looking for a job. She had no income, a boyfriend whom she wanted to impress, and lots of lies to her friends about her lifestyle- none of them were aware she was broke so she had to keep up that image too. Escort service sounds like a job she would be good at.

Good Morning Furry Friends....just to let you know...I've spent the last 2 days...Thurs., and Friday...contacting my sources at the Body Farm...and the Oakridge Facility....

Body Farm person is Dr. Lee Jantz...whom was originally contacted by Le. FL. to do testing on forensic evidence from the trunk of Casey's car...along with the FBI forensic crime lab....and Arpad Vass from the Oakridge Facility associated with the Body Farm....Arpad is the scientist who developed the science for air testing...and also did the testing of air samples from Casey's car...Arpad has been very helpful in answering my questions...and also another scientist from the Body Farm...is the person who did tell me that *he was not* part of the team regarding the bone removal/research....

Now to get to the point....in the past 2 days...I've talked with multiple ppl at the facilities....both Jantz and Vass are not in the office....this is my opinion only....they might be in FL. for the GJ deposition on Tuesday....FWIW....LP did tell me that he and Rob...are on the witness list for the Prosecution...

That's all I know right now....plus...Klaas and Blonde...I did forward your info to LP....Des...

Thanks Des....  all of this is starting to confirm my suspicions that Caylee or parts of Caylee were found by TES over Labor Day.

Ahhh, so it makes sense that Tim and other are converging on Orlando Tuesday to testify before the Grand Jury... and maybe search.
I also suspected that they had the body already and was just waiting for LE to catch up on paperwork and get ready for the Grand Jury.
Meanwhile... all the friends talked and took lie detector tests and the case is built. And George turned against Casey to save himself from public humiliation over incest and paternity.
Like they say in the A-Team, "love it when a plan comes together".

The point of my post was to explain why George may not have detected a decomposition ordor emiting from Casey's vehicle on August 24th and ... why Casey may have been reluncted for her father to retrieve his metal wedge from the trunk of her vehicle.

Leonard Padilla theory no longer encompasses the dumpster.  He now believes that Caylee will be found by Tim Miller near the airport.

I was leaning towards Padilla's dumpster theory at one time but ... now I don't know.  The airport area seems a likely location when the "pings" from Casey's cell is considered but ... it is still beyond my comprehension no matter how Caylee met her demise ... how a mother could disrespectfully dispose of her own little girl.

Wishfull thinking tells me that Caylee remains are in Great Grandma's yards.

I think my "tea break" official ended an hour ago.  Time to make my stuffing for the bird.

And Tim from Equusearch is headed out there in the morning. And I`m telling you, I`m putting my money on Tim finding that body before Tuesday.

Has everyone read Brian Burners (the neighbor with the shovel) interview with LE? I think there are important clues there because Casey didn't back up to the garage only on the 17th. She did the same thing on the 20th. And then Burner said he saw Casey with a guy in a pick-up truck go into the garage around the 23rd. Sorry if its been gone over already. Maybe the first time with the shovel she couldn't get her nerve up.
