I stand with the girl, Natalee Holloway.

"I can look back over the past 10 years and there were no steps wasted, and there are no regrets,'' she said. "I did all I knew to do and I think that gives me greater peace now." "I've lived every parent's worst nightmare and I'm the parent that nobody wants to be," she said.

Joran van der Sloot, who confessed to the 2005 murder of Natalee Holloway in Aruba and who was convicted in the subsequent extortion of her mother, Beth, is on his way back to Peru.

The 36-year-old Dutch national from Aruba, who pleaded guilty to extortion and wire fraud in federal court in Alabama on Oct. 18, was released from the Shelby County Jail Monday morning, escorted by U.S. Marshals. His release happened just after midnight.

Northern District of Alabama U.S. Marshal Marty Keely said van der Sloot was taken from the jail to the Birmingham International Airport.

Once the plane departs Birmingham and arrives in Peru, Peruvian officials will take him back into custody to serve the rest of his prison sentence for murder.

“U.S. Marshals Service Northern District of Alabama thanks Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego and Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis for their assistance in housing Joran van der Sloot while in the custody of the United States Marshals Service Northern District of Alabama,’' Keely said.

Joran van der Sloot, who confessed to the 2005 murder of Natalee Holloway in Aruba and who was convicted in the subsequent extortion of her mother, Beth, was to fly back to Peru on Monday but those plans were delayed.

However, the plane that was to depart Birmingham for Peru experienced some type of mechanical issue.

Officials in the U.S. are working with Peruvian officials to reschedule his return to serve the rest of his prison sentence for murder. Authorities did not say where van der Sloot will be held until that occurs.

“U.S. Marshals Service Northern District of Alabama thanks Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego and Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis for their assistance in housing Joran van der Sloot while in the custody of the United States Marshals Service Northern District of Alabama,’' Keely said prior to the rescheduling.

Joran van der Sloot returns to Peru to serve murder sentence after Natalee Holloway confession
Published: Nov. 01, 2023, 8:44 a.m.

Joran van der Sloot was quietly extradited back to Peru on Tuesday to finish a 28-year sentence for murder after his confession to killing Natalee Holloway was made public as part of a deal to plead guilty in the extortion of her mother, Beth Holloway.

Van der Sloot was initially set to fly out of Birmingham on Monday, but the plane had mechanical issues.

He is believed to have been held in the Hoover City Jail for 24 hours before he then began his journey back to Peru.

Brady McCarron, deputy chief of public affairs for the U.S. Marshals Service, said van der Sloot arrived in Peru and was turned over to Peruvian authorities at 5:58 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Authorities said they kept his departure time from Alabama quiet for safety reasons.

Video shared on social media by Peru’s National Police shows van der Sloot, hands and feet shackled, walking on the tarmac flanked by two Interpol agents, each grabbing one of his arms. He wore a pink short-sleeved shirt, jeans, tennis shoes and a bulletproof vest that identified him as an Interpol detainee.

There has not been a lot of activity in the forum in the past few years. At some point the owner just closed it all down. He only recently opened it back up so we can discuss the new developments. I don't know any of the behind the scene details and I have no idea how much longer it will stay open. It takes a lot of time, money, energy and dedication to run a site like this. I know we are all very grateful to have had it for as long as we did.
Side note: I am so happy to have that POS out of my state and back in Peru. I'm sure they missed you, Joran!

Hello everyone,

I registered at ScaredMonkeys back in 2007. I never got around to posting but I've read here in the Natalee Holloway and then Natalee Holloway/Stephany Flores Case Discussion forums ever since, sometimes every single day.

For several months recently, I couldn't access this site. I tried in several different browsers on two different computers. Pinging scaredmonkeys.net was successful. Running tracert gave Request timed out on 14th hop to 216.98.153.22. I was wondering if the site had been shut down and if so whether the old content was archived anywhere. But I couldn't find anything about this in the search engines, which seemed odd. Posters grumble when they can't get into a site, especially one they've used for years.

Now that I got in, I looked over the various boards and only the Natalee Holloway/Stephany Flores Case Discussion seems to have any recent activity. Was the downtime planned or was it sudden? I'm not seeing any advance notification about it. Am I missing something obvious?

Does anyone know what's going on and what the future of this board and ScaredMonkeys is?

Last night a watched a new tv show called Natalee Holloway: A Killer Confesses. It was something called IMPACT x Nightline? And it was on Hulu. It was one of those news magazine shows but it was very well done I thought. They interviewed Natalee's brother and John Q Kelly. John was even filmed back in Aruba and they went to the area of the fisherman huts at night. It was all so sad. But Matt said he and Beth and the family are just so happy to have this confession. In case any of y'all want to check it out.

Natalee Holloway Killer Joran van der Sloot’s Mom Is ‘Completely Done’ With Him (Exclusive)
Anita van der Sloot tells The Messenger she will 'absolutely not' visit her notorious son in Peruvian prison

As Natalee Holloway's killer Joran van der Sloot settles into life inside a notorious Peruvian prison, at least one of his family members will not be making the trip to visit him: his mother Anita.

"Absolutely not," Anita van der Sloot told The Messenger on a phone call Thursday night when asked if she would see her infamous son in Peru.

"She's done," a van der Sloot family member added. "Completely done. He put her and [his father] Paulus through hell for the past 20 years. She's not going to visit him."

The van der Sloot family source declined to comment on their reaction to his confession, which was part of plea deal in the fraud case that allowed him to return to Peru to serve the balance of his sentence for Ramirez's murder.

When he is released, he will return to the U.S. to serve the remainder of his 20-year punishment for trying to extort the Holloway family.

The van der Sloot family member says that Anita does not ever anticipate ever having a relationship with her son.

"By the time he's out of prison, she'll be very old — if she's even still around," the source says. "So, he's on his own."

Joran van der Sloot’s Natalee Holloway Murder Confession ‘Doesn’t Add Up’: Aruban Official (Exclusive)
The convicted murderer said he bludgeoned the teenager with a cinderblock and dragged her body out to sea — but the weapon and the body were never found

When Joran van der Sloot confessed in gruesome detail to the 2005 murder of Natalee Holloway, her family found a sense of closure. But authorities in Aruba are still puzzling over what they say are apparent contradictions in his story — and wondering if parts of it are credible.

"There are some things that don't make sense," says an investigator in Aruba who worked on the case in 2005. "It just doesn't add up."

Whether or not they believe van der Sloot now, Aruban authorities are unable to reopen the case against him due to a 12-year statute of limitation on the island.

"There's nothing more to be done," says the investigator, "but I still will always wonder."

For Holloway's family, however, there is solace in hearing her confessed killer give details of how she died.

"I am relieved," her mother, Beth Holloway, said outside the Alabama courthouse after van der Sloot pleaded guilty in October.

"This confession means we have finally reached the end of this never-ending nightmare."

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Spooky.

So the owner just closed down the site without any warning? Wow! For quite a while, I thought the problem was on my end because I couldn't find anything about this in the search engines and I spent quite a bit of time trying to troubleshoot it. I even tried emailing the webmaster but kept getting failure notices.

It's unfortunate that all of the years of content here will be lost and no longer available to warn others about the dangers that lie in Aruba. There must be someone who would be willing to host a read-only archive of all that data.

Do you, or anyone else, know if some of the members here have migrated somewhere else?

Another question: Is it possible to send klaasend or whoever is the current admin a personal message. I tried that but it doesn't seem to work.

I was somewhat disappointed that Joran didn't get the good ol' boy welcome that some users posted about. I was also surprised at how readily people believe Joran is telling the truth this time. It sounded to me like he put forth a story that was as brutal and as harsh as he could make it just to strike back at Beth. Of course I do think that he is capable of all that, but I wondered if after he got back to Peru, he would retract everything he said again and say he lied. I would have liked to see him serve the two 20-year sentences here after having served his time in Peru. But I understand that Beth wanted closure. I just hope she really got it. I guess the important part is that he finally admitted he killed Natalee, details aside. Beth is as smart as they come, and she knows all this.

Nine men to be tried for murder of Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries
Hearing to start in January in case of journalist shot in the street in 2021 who was adviser to a witness in trial of a Dutch drug baron
Thu 30 Nov 2023 12.39 EST

Nine men suspected of the murder of prominent Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries will go on trial in January, a Dutch court has announced, with a verdict expected by the summer.

De Vries was gunned down on a busy Amsterdam street on 6 July 2021, shortly after leaving a TV studio where he had appeared as a guest on a programme.

The 64-year-old died nine days after he was shot in a crime that prosecutors said was linked to his role in the trial of a Dutch drug mafia kingpin.

Two suspects, identified only as Dutch man Delano G and Kamil E from Poland, were arrested shortly after the incident, which shocked the Netherlands and threw a spotlight on the growing drug trade in the country.

One thing Joran has a psycholgoical disorder and it such a crime that his parents neither one of them addressed it and he murdered two other people in this world that G_D will have final judgement one day. May G_d have mercy on his parents for failing him and on him for not getting help he needed.

RIP Sweet one.

Murder trial of Dutch journalist gets second start
The 2021 shooting of Peter R. de Vries sent shockwaves across Europe and raised concerns about the safety of journalists.
MOLLY QUELL / January 23, 2024

AMSTERDAM (CN) — In the high-security courtroom in Amsterdam known as the Bunker, prosecutors on Tuesday began making their case for the second time against the men charged with the assassination of famed Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries.

The District Court of Amsterdam was set to announce a verdict in 2022 during the original trial, where two men were charged with murder, but after new evidence emerged and one of the judges moved abroad, the proceedings were scrapped. Prosecutors have now charged nine defendants with the murder and sharing images of the attack to stoke fear over organized crime.

De Vries was a household name in the Netherlands. He rose to prominence after covering the 1983 kidnapping of Heineken heir Freddy Heineken by Willem Holleeder. The journalist was later awarded an International Emmy for his investigation into the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005.

Suspects deny involvement in Peter R. de Vries murder at trial start
LOCAL | By Correspondent Jan. 24, 2024

AMSTERDAM - The trial against the nine suspects in the murder case of journalist Peter R. de Vries has begun in the Amsterdam-Osdorp court. The suspects, including Delano G. with Aruban family ties and Curaçao natives Divainy K. and Ludgardo S., have either denied their involvement in the case or invoked their right to remain silent.

The alleged shooter, Delano G., declared in the crowded courthouse bunker: "I invoke my right to remain silent entirely." This means he chooses not to make statements that could potentially be used against him in court.

Prosecutors seek life sentences for 3 suspects in killing of Dutch journalist Peter R. de Vries
BY MIKE CORDER
Updated 6:50 AM CST, January 31, 2024

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Prosecutors requested life sentences on Wednesday for three suspects in the killing of Dutch investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries and sentences of three to 21 years for six others in a trial in Amsterdam.

The life sentences were sought for the man who allegedly shot de Vries in a downtown Amsterdam street on July 6, 2021, the alleged getaway driver and a man suspected of organizing the assassination. De Vries, a popular reporter and television presenter, died nine days later of his injuries at age 64.

Prosecutors had previously asked judges to impose life sentences on the suspected killer and driver at an earlier trial that was halted in 2022 without verdicts when new evidence came to light and more suspects were arrested.

Demand for a life sentence after the murder of Peter R. de Vries is a 'signal' from the Public Prosecution Service
by Ruetir  January 31, 2024

Lifetime. It sounded three times on Wednesday in the heavily secured court in Amsterdam-Osdorp. Life sentence for Delano G., who allegedly shot Peter R. de Vries. For Kamil E., who would have been the driver as co-executor. And for Krystian M., who would have controlled the whole thing like a murder broker. If the justice system has its way, the three men will never be released.

The suspects showed little outward response to the demands. Krystian M. kept his hood up. Their lawyers will respond in the coming days. On Wednesday afternoon, Kamil E.'s lawyers argued that suspects would have felt heavy pressure and that there are doubts about the reliability of the new witness. They asked for an acquittal for complicity in the murder. The verdict is expected in June.
