Elbow room was at a premium in the St. Johns County Circuit courtroom Tuesday as extra reporters and television crews jockeyed for the little space available to get a clear look at just one of the 51 defendants listed on the afternoon docket.

But it all turned out to be a brief, routine hearing for Misty Janette Croslin, who is now tentatively scheduled to go to trial in August on one count of trafficking in prescription medications -- oxycodone and hydrocodone.

She faces 25 years in prison if she pleads to the offense or is found guilty at trial.

Croslin faces an additional seven trafficking cases in Palatka.

Circuit Judge Terry LaRue told her Thursday that Aug. 16 is her "last-chance plea date" to work out a deal with prosecutors.

After that, she is open to the potential of minimum mandatory sentences that could total decades in prison.

The 18-year-old Croslin appeared pale and lifeless Tuesday as she sat in front of Circuit Judge Wendy W. Berger's bench, waiting for court to begin. She has gained a little weight, but what color she did have has faded since she and four others were arrested Jan. 20 and charged with trafficking.

Toddler run over in Putnam County driveway

A Putnam County toddler was seriously injured Tuesday evening when she was crushed by a car while playing in the driveway of her home.

The child, 2-year-old Kira Sykes, had crawled under a parked car at her house in the 100 block of Creymer Lane in Crescent City with the family dog shortly before 5 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. Robert Thornton, 24, of Hawthorne, was attempting to move the car and didn't see Sykes on the ground.

The dog scurried out from the beneath the vehicle when Thornton turned it on, but Sykes wasn't quick enough. The right rear tire rolled over her midsection. She was taken to Shands Gainesville.

On Sunday at 3pm central we will be running our regular program concerning the Haleigh Cummings and Caylee Anthony cases. These two cases are so frustrating. there seems to be no way to unlock them. I had a long conversation with an author today, he is in no way connected or following these cases. But, he has much to say about the press and how they jump on dysfunction, particularly when it is a sports or movie personae.

He is correct, OJ Simpson, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson, to name but a few. The author made a valid point, they all have (or had) more money than they could find ways to spend it. This clan is different. They all leech of each other. The regular panel will be in place, and the link is here.

That must be the one I was thinking of, poor lil thing.  I dunno why I thought it was a Sykes child or of a cousin in that family.   And surely there wasn't another accident involving a child in those parts.  Thanks for the info!

I cant believe we have heard nothing new on the HaLeigh case, I so want this to get resolved and for HaLeigh to be brought back to her family for closure, this is all so messed up and even with Misty and Ronald in jail nothing has been found out yet. This poor baby seems to have been thrown away and lost in the mix of all these messed up people and what they wnt and dont want. Where's HaLeigj? thats all I want to know, nothing else.
