Casey Anthony: Defense team tells CBS' '48 Hours Mystery' that 'somebody else is the killer of this child'

Casey Anthony's defense team disputes that duct tape was around Caylee Anthony's mouth and points to a stranger as the child's killer in an interview to air this weekend on "48 Hours Mystery."

"The state has led you to believe that there's duct tape around the mouth," attorney Linda Kenney Baden tells CBS' Maggie Rodriguez. "All we can say is that's going to be a disputed issue."

On the duct tape, DNA was found that belongs to an unidentified person, and that evidently is key to the defense's approach. Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her child, Caylee. (Caylee is pictured.)

"A stranger. It was a stranger involved," attorney Todd Macaluso says.

"Somebody else is the killer of this child," Kenney Baden adds.

Anthony's attorneys are convinced that she can be acquitted, Rodriguez said. "I don't think it's just what they think they should say. I think they believe it," she said. "They believe they have enough to plant a seed of doubt."

The attorneys complain that the media have convicted their client already and that's why they want the trial moved to Miami or somewhere else, Rodriguez said.

So why go on national television?

"It's better to have their point of view represented," Rodriguez said.

"Jesse told us how he doubts Casey's innocence," Rodriguez said. "He takes us into that home and the family dynamics. He raises a lot of red flags and says George and Cindy aren't telling the truth."

 I know Sunny, I really don't know how much more of this case I can take. I've come very close to walking away, and pray that Caylee will get justice. Everything that is going on, our justice system wasn't meant to be like this, I won't be able to watch the motions hearing Friday because it starts so early where I'm at, so I will get updated here on the forum. I hope the judge is strict and doesn't allow much more of this game playing. If he allows a change of venue for the fraud case, I'm done, that's ridiculous. This case should have been wrapped up by now, or pretty darn close.

Here is one good article by THE expert.  I just hope they found some evidence of coffin flies or larvae in the trunk or on Caylee's remains- that will prove she was put into the trunk/garbage bag alive or at the time of death.

Hi all...wow, the A's sound like the Adam's Family.  Creepy.  Boy, would I love to see the inside of their house now.    The more I read about CA and GA the more I understand  Casey.  No, I'm not saying in no way I support Casey or anything like that but, can you imagine growing up with parents such as the A's?  I understand that a lot of kids grow up and move away from their sick parents and come to be great 'normal' people, but it sounds like Casey couldn't pull herself away from her parents and just went crazy herself.  I wonder if Casey, now that she's gotten away from her parents and her friends if she's grown up any and now regrets what she did.  She'd never admit it, but you have to wonder what she is thinking now, a year plus later.

Hopping on board to sound off here.  Evening, all!  Cindy's still at it, telling the people what she thinks they want to hear, playing grieving grandparents.  They have a shrine...yeah, right!     Sure they do.    They may have kept Caylee's room for appearances sake or maybe they honestly can't deal with it right now.  If they have to actually pack the tiny clothes and toys up, take down the crib and all the decor, someone (George may be the most likely candidate) may actually begin feeling something akin to grief, remorse, and maybe even anger at Casey (as reality and finality set in).  Somebody may actually get angry enough to finally tell the complete truth.  IMO, Cindy's relentless sleuthing on behalf of and crusading for Casey, is really an avoidance response.  IMO, she's running away from the truth as hard and as fast as she can.  Admitting the truth to herself, forces her to squarely confront her own issues that contributed to Caylee's death-that's the painful truth she's really running from (IMO).  It's like a cat running frantically from the noisemaker tied to it's tail-pointless and exhausting.

Noting, along with all of you, how Cindy refers to her beloved Caylee Marie (aka angel from above on her My Caylee Is Missing entry early July 2008) as "It" twice and "She".  If I had a TV, I'd be tempted to watch and count how many times they refer to Caylee as "It", "She", "That little girl", and all other avoidance names they assign her.  My parents are blessed with 7 grandchildren and I've never in 19 years, heard any one of them referred to as "It" or "That little girl" or "That little boy". I've been around elderly people for decades and not one of them ever referred to their beloved grandchildren in that manner.  I know several parents who have 10-12 children and they're always referred to by name or collectively in groups -"the girls" or "the boys". Sorry Cindy, EPIC fail!  It's interesting to me that when Cindy lies, her subconscious often rats her out within a few statements.  You can't be emotionally grief-stricken with a shrine and emotionally detached at the same time...doesn't happen.  Cindy is saying something she doesn't even believe to try to garner sympathy and support for them and Casey.  48 Hours should just dismiss her and move on...she's a broken record.  It's really sad to see someone self-destruct, much less in a very public way.  She's using up days of her life and for what?  To save a child who's never really loved her, to save her self image and pride, or both?  Either way, it's really sad.  Had she & George gotten Casey help long ago (and their own selves some good counseling), they'd probably be in a much different, much happier life right now.  How sad.  I feel sorry for the Pleseas. I think Cindy's parents really do love her and we know they loved Caylee. It must be really hard to see your child (even a grown one) making bad choices, knowing it's going to hurt them.

Here is one good article by THE expert.  I just hope they found some evidence of coffin flies or larvae in the trunk or on Caylee's remains- that will prove she was put into the trunk/garbage bag alive or at the time of death.

Just as Capp remarked, Cindy starts off with the poor pity me, look at all I've been through, everything I'm doing for Caylee, blah blah blah.  Then it got very interesting.  Remember the August Jail Video visit Cindy & George had with Casey.  Remember she whined, moaned, complained, yelled and cried about how hard it's been for her, how isolated she is, how much she's lost.  Casey immediately followed with how frustrated she is and the "I can't do anything from in here [jail]." line, implying that she could help so much more if they would just bond her out. (Forget that she never looked for Caylee at all when she was out the first time.) It's a great example of Casey using emotional manipulation to get out of answering Cindy's hard (i.e. answerable) questions.

In the YouTube video (at 1:59 to 2:07), we see where Casey learned this emotional manipulation technique.  Cindy (exhausted) "weakly" explains, “When people, you know want me to answer questions I can’t answer…then I’m losing strength.  And if I lose strength, then I can’t give tips to people.”  In other words, if Greta asks any hard questions, Cindy won't have the "strength" to help find Caylee.     Greta, as any journalist worth their salt, should have asked them anyway.  She and the rest of the country would have been surprised how quickly "exhausted" Cindy got a second wind.     All MOO

Wow...just wow!  The re-baptism sure worked well for Rosebud.  First off I bet Rosebud has NEVER called her dogs "IT".  This speaks pretty loudly that "IT" is about winning, control and money and not about grieving having a grand daughter named Caylee Marie or the loss of Caylee. 

IT was our child?  wow..and in the Morgan depos the vile and defiance that Rosebud demonstrated when she replied that Casey was a grown woman and Caylee was HER CHILD....

I need to let this go and know that karma is gonna be a real beotch when it hits the Rosebud clan and that  God who is playing with Caylee right now is watching and hearing all of this.

ISPY, also interesting of note is the appearance the Anthonys and Baez took the morning of the bond hearing on 7/22.   We now know for a fact that Det Yuri Melich & Sgt John Allen went to the house to clear up the date controversy as to when Cindy & Caylee visited Caylee's great paw paw BUT Cindy does not cleat that up in the interview with CBS that next morning before the bond hearing.   We know how Cindy got upset at the bond hearing that it came out - she used the excuse that she had a sick father she was worried about, that wasnt it at all - she was afraid of many truths that were about to come out including that Casey stole from her own grandparents and not just once (Cindy has tried to conceal or sugarcoat that issue as well).

Yes indeedy, Capp.  I really would like to know what happened on June 9th.  Why was Casey staying at Ricardo's?  I wonder if there was a violent argument that day/evening, a precursor to the "fight" incident on June 15th (per Lee's various sworn testimonies and statements).  Also, notice how careful the Anthonys are that whenever one of them says something in direct contrast to someone else, they never directly address the person (i.e. "Lee was mistaken/wrong about the fight thing.").  None of them can keep their stories straight.  IMO, none of them are telling the truth.  When a person witnesses a situation and someone else tells the story incorrectly, the person will almost always correct them immediately.  I surmise, the Anthony family members rarely correct one another because the story is just that, a story.  As such, it's fluid (always changing, constantly being written and revised as needed).  JMO

Well, need to head out...promised myself I'd hit the hay early this time.  Last day of "may cause sleeplessness" medicine-Yay!     Wanted to check Haleigh's thread quickly.  Thanks for tossing ideas, commentary, and rant around.  Stuck in a checkout line this week with someone and they began scanning the Caylee Anthony-Human Sacrifice cover.  Disgustedly, they pointed it out and I began explaining the back story behind it.  You should have seen the cashier's face!  I must have looked like a nut, seeing that we are thousands of miles from FL and it's not "news" here.  I had to laugh, but the other person was quite impressed with the extent of my knowledge.
