ACD's are very loyal and they pick one person, he picked me. He will play and socialize with the rest of the family but needs to know where I am at all times. I was used to a husky's temperament and nature that when Riley came along I thought he had mental issues. JSM helped me to understand ACD dogs and all his quirks make sense. ACD's will kill themselves trying to please the one person they have picked.
The ACD must have been a real "culture shock" to you, for sure! I don't know about Max, but typically, Sibs aren't near the top of the list on "wanting to please you".
My experience teaches me they're a lot more about "pleasing themselves!"
But LOVING and playful to a fault!

Northern Rose & CBB they are both beautiful.
GE? I think I need Grandkids! My maternal instincts go to the 4 legged furry variety right now!

First time on a sled I was a moron. Max knew what to do I did not. Had the two older boys on the sled as they were little and figured it was a good idea. I fell off, dogs took off, kids had the best ride of their life. Big mistake we made was we had a malamute as lead dog as he was a better runner with Max behind him. Max wanted to get in front and malamute was running for his life. I got the hang of it after that with lots of practice and patience from Max. That was the one and only time he was not lead dog.
I'm surprised the Malamute survived the ordeal! I was a real novice and couldn't remember a thing I had taught! Gee? Haw?
So were we but most of all I think the Malmute was the most surprised he survived.
We lived in the right part of the north to sled at that time.
WOW!! You sure did!
My blue eyed one's registered name was "Karnovanda's (required if you bought a puppy from that kennel ) Yukon Taku. She never saw that part of the country, but seeing them on a snowy morning frolicking and jumping like deer was a beautiful sight! They stick their nose in a bank and come up with a "snow nose!"
You must have had a blast living there with your Malamute and Siberian!
I was asked to baby sit the malamute for a weekend and two years later still had him and had no clue where the owner was. We ended up giving him to a older man who was alone and was looking for a companion to drive truck. That malamute loved being in a vehicle so it was a natural fit. I have pictures of the two of them together that I will have to dig out. I understand snow nose. For Max it was more of a snow face! We always knew when winter was coming to stay as his arctic hair grew between his paw pads like crazy.

Culture shock is an understatement. I thought Riley had a mental defect! Max was very independent, loyal and obedient but not needy and happy to do things his way on his time. He was happy to have "Max time" and then family time. Max would not push the bathroom door open to watch me take a bath or lay right behind me when I was cooking so I would trip over him and go flying. Riley does that.

Barney was the most naturally obedient of the 4 I had, and I wonder if that sort of came with the alpha thing. The other 3 were fine anywhere unless they wanted something different!
I've had deviled eggs eaten off the counter top when I turned my back, pantyhose swallowed, just because they were there, carpet chewed, and shoes, from who knows where brought to my door............... proudly!

Max's favourtie thing to do as a puppy was to chew the plugs off electrical cords whether they were plugged in or not. We were surprised he never fried himself and I started getting a discount on male electrical ends.

I want to share this recipe that I tried for the first time. It is in the fridge setting up but we licked the bowl to the last bit.
1-1/4 cups Oreo Baking Crumbs
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 pkg. (250 g) Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp. Smooth Peanut Butter, divided
1 cup cold milk
1 pkg. (4-serving size) Vanilla Instant Pudding
2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, divided
3 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate
Mix crumbs and butter and press onto bottom and up side of 9-inch pie plate. Beat cream cheese and 1/2 cup peanut butter until well blended. Add milk and dry pudding mix and beat 2 min. Whisk in 1 cup Cool Whip by hand and spoon into crust. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Microwave remaining Cool Whip and chocolate in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1-1/2 to 2 min. or until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring after each minute. Cool completely.
Spread chocolate mixture over filling in crust. Microwave remaining peanut butter in small microwaveable bowl 30 sec.; stir. Drizzle over pie. Refrigerate 4 hours or until firm.
'
NO ROSE...this recipe sounds delicious...where do you get the Oreo Baking Crumbs?

All the grocery stores by me have them. They are with the graham cracker crumbs in the baking isle.
