Zina Linnik is described as being a 12 year old white, Ukranian female, blond hair, 4'10". 80lbs The victim was last seen wearing her hair in a ponytail. The victim was last seen wearing a pink t-shirt, pink/orange/yellow capri pants, and red flip-flop sandals. The suspect is described as being a male, Asian. No further description available. The suspect vehicle is a Gray Older Van partial plate number is 1677. If you have any information on this incident, please call 911 or contact the Tacoma at 911. A person heard the girl scream behind her home and then saw a man get into a van and drive away. But police said that's about all they have to go on. Police said Zina was walking in an alley behind her family's home Wednesday night in 2500 block of South 'J' Street. when someone heard the girl scream. The witness told investigators that he looked in the alley and saw a man get into an older gray van and drive away. Zina's sister. Svetlana Linnik said the man who heard the screams was her dad. "First he drove past my sisters and he came this way, and my sister was here yelling because she was scared because of fireworks," she said. "I didn't hear the yell, but my dad said he heard it and he came out here, and he just saw the van speed off." The license plate of the van contains the numbers 1677, but a complete license number was not available. Some of Zina's seven brothers and sisters initially believed the suspect was the young man whose mother lived just a few doors down. Police said they did not issue an Amber Alert immediately because they knew where to find him. "Eventually we were able to locate him, but through talking with him for a couple of hours he and his van were eliminated," said police spokesman Mark Fulghum. "So we had to go back and redevelop some information so we had enough to put out." 12 hours after the disappearance, the Amber Alert was issued. Since no one actually saw the girl get pulled into the van, tracking dogs and searchers are checking the neighborhood in case she left or was taken by foot. Early Thursday, bloodhounds tracked her scent to an empty door just a few doors away, but there was no sign of Zinna. Police said they have little to go on. "Just the scream, the van driving out of the area we don't have anything else other than that. The family has no reason to think that they would take the girl or who would take the girl. She's not, (from) what we can tell, a runaway risk. So not a lot to go on," Fulghum said. "It's really actually tough. Hopefully everything goes fine and everything is...somebody finds her or something," Stan said. Zina is 4 feet 10 inches tall, with blond hair and weighs about 80 pounds. She had her hair in a pony tail and was wearing a pink T-shirt with pink and orange capri pants and red flip-flop sandals. The person driving the van was described only as an Asian male. Zina Linnik, 12, of Tacoma, has been missing since the Fourth of July. TACOMA — Tacoma police and the FBI held a news conference Monday to once again ask the public for any clues in the disappearance of a 12-year-old Tacoma girl who apparently was abducted on the Fourth of July. Police Chief Don Ramsdell says investigators are looking for a van that left the scene. They'd also would like to talk to anyone who was in the area when Zina Linnik disappeared. He says one person questioned by investigators is being held for immigration violations. FBI agent Laura Laughlin says investigators are following leads and have not given up hope. Mark Fulghum, a spokesman for Tacoma police, later said detectives have "eliminated a lot of prospects" and are still following two or three "pretty good leads ... that seem to have merit." Police are considering Zina's disappearance an abduction by a stranger, and, though they don't know for sure, Fulghum said the abduction might have been a crime of opportunity. Zina was last seen the night of the Fourth of July in an alley behind her house. A witness heard a girl scream and saw an older gray van speed away. Zina is 4-feet-10, weighs 80 pounds and was wearing a pink T-shirt, capri pants and flip-flop sandals. She is one of eight children in a "very quiet, very private, very tight family," Fulghum said. In addition to officers and agents working the case, officials from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are working with investigators and members of Pierce County Search & Rescue, Fulghum said. Police were combing areas of Tiger Mountain on Tuesday looking for a 12-year-old Tacoma girl who has been missing for a week. Authorities believe Zina Linnick was kidnapped at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday from an alley behind her family's Hilltop neighborhood home in Tacoma. Witnesses said they heard the Ukrainian girl scream, then saw an old van pull away down the alley in the 2500 block of South J Street. FBI Special Agent Fred Gutt said Tuesday's search was prompted by one of several leads investigators are following, and that it should not be taken as a sign that Linnick is dead. "We're still hopeful," Gutt said, adding that detectives have "a number of different and seemingly promising angles of investigation" Gutt, who was out canvassing Linnick's neighborhood earlier this week, said the FBI and Tacoma police have received substantial help from neighbors -- including some who otherwise distrust police. "Even though some folks are traditionally private ... in cases like this it's rare to see someone who isn't willing to help," Gutt said. A request for "unknowing" witnesses -- people who may know the perpetrator but not see that recent behavioral changes were prompted by the abduction -- issued Monday has also returned some promising leads, Gutt said. Unlike most kidnapping victims, Linnick was apparently taken by a stranger, Gutt said. The most recent stranger abduction investigated by the Seattle FBI office -- the 2005 kidnapping and slaying of Adre'anna Jackson, a 10-year-old Lakewood girl -- has not been solved. Abducted on her way to school on Dec. 2, 2005, Jackson's body was found four months later in a vacant lot two miles from her home. FBI specialists have been flown out from the bureau's Virginia headquarters to help in the investigation, Gutt said. Linnick's abduction is the top priority for the office. "I'm one of the few people in our office today," the special agent said. "Most folks are out there." Linnick, a 4-foot-10-inch, 80-pound blonde, was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt and striped Capri pants. She wore red flip-flop sandals and her hair in a ponytail. Wednesday, July 11, 2007 ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A tip has lead searchers to Tiger Mountain near Issaquah to look for the 12-year-old Tacoma girl who apparently was abducted near her home on the Fourth of July. FORTUNATELY here in MAINE, several Town's have just imposed new ordinances prohibiting sex offenders living in their Town's completely or even certain areas of a town. They've stiffened the penalties for those that do not register. The LE here even sends out a notice via email and a phone call to notify any school or daycare facility that one has moved wihin a 5 mile radius of them. It is even something anyone can sign up for. So even though its not stopping these perps from living out there, at least we know when one moves into town. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mary Robnett said Adhahn is expected to change his plea in a hearing April 7 in Pierce County Superior Court. Prosecutors have been working with Adhahn's attorneys for some time on striking a plea deal, Robnett said. Adhahn, a convicted sex offender, previously pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, rape and murder charges in the July killing of 12-year-old Zina Linnik. Prosecutors have already removed the death penalty as an option as part of a deal to get Adhahn to lead them to Linnik's body after his arrest. "I have no regrets about taking the death penalty off the table in these circumstances," Pierce County Prosecutor Gerald Horne said at the time. "We may never have found the body." Adhahn is being held in the Pierce County Jail for Linnik's death as well as in the rapes of two other girls - one of whom survived after apparently being left for dead in a remote section of Fort Lewis. Zina had been missing since twilight on July 4, when she was snatched from an alley behind her family's home in Tacoma during a neighborhood fireworks display. August 17, 2008 Sunday More help in child abductions In the past three years, two young girls have gone missing from the streets of Pierce County. Search parties were launched and investigators assigned to the disappearances. Both girls - 10-year-old Adre'anna Jackson and 12-year-old Zina Linnik - were later found dead. Now the county is putting together a team of representatives from the criminal justice community that will be trained to rapidly respond to the next child abduction and assist in the investigation if asked. "We want to make sure we have every tool available when these types of incidents occur," said Ed Troyer, the team leader and Pierce County sheriff's spokesman. The 10-member Child Abduction Response Team leaves today for a week of training in San Francisco. The U.S. Department of Justice is paying for the training, airfare, lodging and materials. The Pierce County contingent will be one of several CART-trained groups throughout the country. If certified by the Justice Department, it will be the only activated and certified team in the state, Troyer said. The concept was developed after the abduction of an 11-year-old girl in Florida in 2004. Officials working that case discovered they needed trained experts to respond immediately, assist the lead law enforcement agency and bring additional resources to the effort. The CART training is designed to provide team members with resources and tools that can be useful when a child is abducted. The training includes a tabletop exercise during which the team is evaluated for its response and performance in an abduction scenario. Pierce County's team is comprised of two sheriff's detectives, a search-and-rescue specialist, a forensics officer, the county's Amber Alert coordinator, two public information officers, a deputy prosecutor, a victim-witness coordinator and a sheriff's supervisor. Troyer said he's been working on getting a CART team for the county for some time. The effort is tied to the county's Amber Alert planning, which began in 2002. Amber alerts are messages displayed on highway reader boards and broadcast by the media when a child is abducted. "This is just the natural progression," Troyer said. Once trained, the team will be able to assist any law enforcement agency that needs help responding to the abduction of a child. The CART team would provide support, pull in other resources and provide expertise to the investigating agency, Troyer said. "We do not take over the case," he said. "Most of what we will bring is added resources and support that will free up the investigating agency to allocate more manpower towards the investigation." Law enforcement agencies already might know of some of those resources - such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and a team of retired officers who travel the country helping on abducted children cases - said Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum, a member of the team. "We should have quicker, easier access to other resources," he said. "It is something that really is needed and it's good training." Troyer said the hope is that the CART team could be deployed in cases such as those of Adre'anna Jackson and Zina Linnik. Adre'anna disappeared Dec. 2, 2005, after she left her Lakewood home for school. The fourth-grader never made it to Tillicum Elementary. Her parents reported her missing later that day. Lakewood is withholding public documents sought by the family of the late Zina Linnik. Officials say their release might jeopardize an investigation into another case. The family of a 12-year-old Tacoma girl who was kidnapped and murdered in 2007 is squaring off with the City of Lakewood in a battle over documents related to her killer’s past. Zina Linnik’s parents want to know if more could have been done to prevent her murder, their attorney, Tyler Firkins, said Tuesday. But Lakewood police and the city’s legal department contend that releasing information requested by Firkins under the state’s public records laws might undermine another case. “It’s active homicide investigation,” police Lt. Heidi Hoffman said. “We don’t want to do anything that might jeopardize it.” Last week the city filed a motion in Pierce County Superior Court asking a judge to settle the dispute over the records by keeping them closed. Firkins’ 10-point request was broad, asking for all documents referencing Terapon Dang Adhahn, who killed Zina. Adhahn is considered a person of interest in the death of 10-year-old Adre’anna Jackson, whose body was found four months after her December 2005 disappearance. Her cause of death is unknown. Firkins claims the city is improperly withholding information unrelated to that case. He especially wants the results of any follow-up to a 2004 Child Protective Services referral alleging that a mother was allowing Adhahn to sexually abuse her teenage daughter. “Rather than respond to my request, they are dodging based on the ‘continuing investigation,’” Firkins said. Washington’s open records act contains an exemption for investigative records. Lakewood was not involved with the CPS referral, Hoffman told The News Tribune. Court records indicate the girl lived with Adhahn at two Spanaway addresses from the ages of 12 to 15. Meanwhile, the Washington Supreme Court has held that police are not obligated to separate sensitive information from nonsensitive in an open file, associate Lakewood city attorney Matthew Kaser wrote in court filings. He quoted from the court’s 5-4 opinion: “This exemption allows the law enforcement agency, not the courts, to determine what information, if any, is essential to solve a case.” Which details are sensitive might only be recognized in hindsight after a case is solved, the justices noted. In 2004, both the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and CPS received tips alleging Adhahn was having sex with a 15-year-old girl who was living with him, The Seattle Times and KIRO-TV reported in 2007. Deputies tried to check it out, but couldn’t verify the tip because Adhahn, now 44, wasn’t living at the addresses they’d been given. CPS officials acknowledged that their agency should have done more. Firkins said he was trying to find out more about where the system may have broken down, pointing out that Zina wasn’t Adhahn’s first victim. In 1990, Adhahn was convicted of incest, sentenced to sex offender treatment and diagnosed as a pedophile. He later pleaded guilty to other sex crimes. Adhahn was sentenced to life in prison in May 2008 for kidnapping, raping and killing Zina. Among other items requested by Firkins were any documents that “discuss the use of the Amber Alert System in the context of the Zina Linnik case.” This part of Firkins’ request was also denied because it might jeopardize Lakewood’s homicide investigation, court records say. The Tacoma Police Department was criticized for not issuing such an alert in the first few hours after Zina was abducted, waiting until the next morning after a hot lead didn’t pan out.
